I've been here a few times, and there is always a table available, the ambiance is lovely, and the food is great! They have some tables when you walk in, a bar to sit at, and outdoor seating too. They also have live music sometimes, which is always wonderful, and the lighting is well done too. Even the bathroom is cute. There was a time that my partner ordered the dish that is stated on the menu to take extra time to prepare, but it ended up coming out incorrectly and they had to redo it, so by the time it came out, my food was long gone. That's the only reason for 4-stars instead of 5. I highly recommend the Costillas Asadas (braised short ribs), the meat is juicy and delicious and it's served with mashed potatoes and veggies. Our Friend Vahe took us this week for a Tapas Treat to this gem on Ventura Blvd. They have been serving the valley with excellent Tapas for 20+ years. We went all the way - tried and shared most of the small tapas - croquetas, mushroom, shrimp, patatas and all the little baguette delicacies - and had a really good time. They have live music - a wonderful guitar player - on some days. If you like Spanish guitar worth checking out his dates in the place. If you care for Tapas - this is the right place. We went on a whim, and it was last minute, to have a glass of wine. We sat at the bar, and I have to say the wines are great, and Marsha was awesome too, but I feel that what really made the whole ambience was the live musician. We talked to him and requested a few tunes, and he did not disappoint. His name is Roger, and what a sweet, humble person. He definitely made the whole night SUPER enjoyable!! Indoor and outdoor tables and a bar area. Live entertainment in the evening. They take reservations on their website and on Open Table, which I would recommend. Service 4: Friendly, polite and helpful. Food 4: Primarily a Spanish style wine and tapas restaurant. Good selection of small plates, salads and a few large plates. Some noteworthy taps that we usually get are the Albondigas Con Salsa De Tomate, various Mondaitos (canapes), Berenjena Asade, Delicias, Champinones al Ajillo, Gambas al pil pil, Croquetas de Pollo, Marinated and the Filet Skewers. Drinks 3: Large assortment of wines, some beer, coffee and soft drinks. My only disappoint being that the wine list is not updated frequently enough and often my first choice would be not available. After having gone through this a few times, I now always select a back up or two, just in case :D The Last Word 4: My family and I have been coming to Vino for several years now. DineLA does a great service to many local restaurants that go under the radar in terms of market exposure. I perused Vino Wine & Tapas Room DineLA menu which intrigued me enticing me to make a phone reservation. I'm glad I did since the DineLA page informed me that it would be generally served till 11pm, but I found out that Sunday it would be served at the latest at 9:30pm. Sunday at 9:15pm is great. Plenty of street parking, seats available at the bar where all the "action" is. There was a smattering of amiable, regular customers. Alex, the bartender, is laid back, hospitable, aware of good service to create a warm atmosphere for his customers. Awesome Vino Wine & Tapas Room DineLA options gave the food here a show of confidence in its kitchen. 1) Croquetas de Pollo: Mashed potato balls surrounded by Panko bread crumbs and fried stuffed with shredded chicken breast meat & parmesan cheese. Drizzled with a pale red Aïoli (ah ee oh lee). 2) Gambas al Pil Pil: Piri Piri means piquant, spicy chiles grown in Southern Africa under centuries of Portuguese influence even though chiles were originally native to Meso America. Five huge unpeeled shrimp seem grilled in an oily paste of "sweet" red ground chiles, garlic. Perfectly cooked meaning the meat is is soft, moist and not overcooked to dry hardness. It did come in a sizzling black cast iron pan. 3) Branzino: Whole seabass, head, tail and everything in between was gloriously fried to a light crispiness. The main body section's interior was still succulent and moist retaining the clean fish, oceanic undertones. I appreciated that the frying oil was still fresh and "sweet" without the contaminating flavours from multiple previous use. It was so delightfully crispy that I could even eat most of the head. I haven't had such expert frying in a long time except at Japanese restaurants where bones of fish or sweet shrimp heads are fried and called Senbèi/crackers. 1-3a) Grenache Rosé : With all the varied dishes, I thought it would be a good intermediary so there would be no need for having one glass each of white and red. Nice vin de table from France. Bit crisp, fruity strawberry-raspberry, acidic, touch bitter, chalky. 4) Flan was eggy, lighter consistency, with a delicate caramel sauce. Thankfully not cloyingly sweet. Tastefully topped with a strawberry as an accent. Alex with the chignon was great. Casual, friendly, open, aware of providing good service without formalities. He's perfect for setting the pace in creating a congenial atmosphere so patrons start to talk to each other. Raffi was featured to play his keyboard synthesizer for entertainment that night. Totally laid back sounds perfect for winding the weekend down. He's another one who tries to interact with the patrons by asking for requests and mingling with the crowd in between acts. Vino Wine & Tapas Room is a good unpretentious, neighborhood bar with good Comida Española with nice Tapas, Vino, cervesa/beer to pleasantly while away the time that we still have on this precious Earth. Disappointed by my time at Vino. I made a reservation for my birthday, and upon entering it was clear the reservation was not necessary--there were plenty of tables open. One of the servers swung by and gave me a wave of the arm and said "anywhere is fine", and I'm not sure she heard me mention my reservation. The Dine LA menu is what attracted me to come give Vino a try, and on the surface it seemed exciting--sangria, jumbo prawns, croquettes, and branzino! So many of my favorite things. The sangria was okay, I don't think it merited the high praise from the server, and the "jumbo prawns" were medium at best, to quote John Pinette. The sauce was decent and the flavor was great, but to have an additional charge to be part of the Dine LA menu, I was underwhelmed. The croquettes were nothing special, and they were slightly underdone--I'm not sure if they make them in house or if they come out of a freezer bag, but the latter seemed more likely to me. I chose the branzino over the short rib because the server said it's definitely not something you can make at home, and really emphasized how delicious it is. I understand that frying the whole branzino is part of the preparation but wow, this was fried to an extent I was not prepared for. The fish was extremely overdone, and it required a complete dismantling of the fish to get the more tender parts of the inside. My server remarked how I had really "done a good job" on the fish, and I'm glad she mistook my excavation (exuming?) as praise for the fish because I didn't have the heart to mention how tough it was to find a tender piece. The tender pieces in the sauce were tasty! But the journey was not pleasant, and the sauce was not well balanced. This dish also came with an additional surcharge. I'm not sure who Vino is for--the tables around me were filled with older women speaking poorly of their acquaintances or speculating why the young women in their family aren't "having babies" like "they should be by now". The table adjacent to me was struggling to understand that tipping occurs after the bill is split, not before. I watched a man come in and take a seat at one server's urging, and then had to physically walk back to the bar area, where the second server exclaimed that she had no idea he had been back there! No mention of my birthday, and my glass (both water and sangria) was often sitting empty on the table. When they brought the branzino I needed to flag down the server to ask for utensils, since they had taken my last pair. The live music could have been a nice touch, but his sound check was a bit cacophonous while the music was playing, and his first song "Take Five"--one of my favorites--had so many errors it made it hard to enjoy. I don't think Dave Brubeck would approve! I love spanish food, love jazz, and love wine bars so it's hard to believe this was such a miss. With so many other fantastic options in the area, I can't recommend Vino. read more

If you are looking for an authentic Spanish restaurant, a visit to Vino Wine & Tapas Room in Encino is long overdue. While I have been here a while back, it was calling me during Dine LA week. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance. The Dine LA menu menu consists of a choice of wine or sangria, two small tapas, one big tapa and dessert for $65. You have to start with Sangria. For the small tapas I chose the croquettes de pollo (Crispy mashed potato balls with chicken breast and Parmesan cheese). It delivered as expected, nothing extraordinary. The second small tapa for me was the gambas al pil pil (five jumbo prawns sauteed in garlic, dnied chilis and paprika). The latter had a supplement charge of $6 and was supposed to come out in a sizzling skillet (skillet yes, sizzling no). But it was a delicious dish, even though the prawns were not jumbo, as described in the menu. I dislike when restaurants use these tactics to falsely label their menu items. However, the dish was prepared well, the sauce of which was calling the complimentary sourdough bread. For the large tapas, I selected the costillas asadas (Juicy beef short ribs braised overnight with spices and herbs, served with green beans, baby carrots, and mashed potatoes). it was well presented, the meat tender, but bland (needed more seasoning) and could be eaten with a fork. I had flan for dessert. The general menu has more items, and in my opinion, better choices. Maybe next time. Service was friendly, timely and well executed. read more

My one big complaint is that this restaurant is in need of refurbishment. He even repeated the order back to me as a confirmation. As a paella, it's kind of entry level in my opinion. It'll come out in the pan. But there's very little crispy bits on the bottom. We hosted a 30 person event here last night for a 60th birthday, and it could not have gone more smoothly. The covered patio was perfect for the rainy weather, comfortable, and filled with plenty of heating options so everyone stayed cozy. The food was delicious, from the small tapas bites to the paella! The staff was incredibly easy to communicate with throughout the night. Service was quick, attentive, and genuinely kind. We even had an issue with our cake that we brought before the event, and they stepped in and fixed it without hesitation, which we were so grateful for. Dine LA brought be to another restaurant to try. This time we met a friend in the valley so she got to choose the place. They open at 3:30pm so we got reservations for then they opened. Perfect time as there was no wait and we were seated right away. They had an extensive dinela menu and it even included wine. This 5 course meal was a deal at only $55 per person. You had a choice of wine, appetizer, tapas, and dessert. The staff was prompt, friendly, attentive, and so nice. Everything was delicious. Their meats are all cooked so tender. Lamb chops are hard to get right and they definitely know how to do this dish. They also have the best desserts that were moist and perfect. The calamari was crispy, and the manchego with loads of flavor. They open until midnight and when we left the musician was just setting up. Perfect for dates or with friends. Parking: meters are free on Sunday or after 6pm. Also neighborhood side street parking Staff: very attentive and nice Ambiance: great for dates or celebrations with friends. Another place that clearly orders all of their food and ingredients from Sysco, which is going to be the death of food in this city. I'm not sure when restaurants will learn that they need to boycott these people as suppliers, but it better be soon. Where to start? You walk in and there's no indication that you need to seat yourself. No sign, no posting, nothing. There's what looks like QR menus on the table so hubs and I just assumed we had to sit down and order- yet when you scan the QR code, it just takes you to their website. Finally after being confused for a few minutes, a server came to us. Can't imagine what that's like for the employees- but I'm guessing it's not ideal. After that three more groups came in and since my husband and I were sitting next to the door, we took the liberty of telling them that they needed to find their own seats because they were confused as well. Now onto the "food", which had zero resemblance of anything close to tapas let alone Spanish food. Bland food- SO bland! Eggplant chips were stale and tasted like old oil, hummus was absolutely disgusting and tastes like something you can get at Ralph's for $2, salmon slider was nothing but salmon skin and had absolutely no salmon meat inside of it- it also kept LEAKING MAYO through the top of the SUPER dry bun, hamburgesa was entirely devoid of flavor, fries were rock hard and mostly cold, my husband's empanada was apparently good, but mine was cooked to the point of being literal ASH in places and was so dry it could have absorbed my entire glass of wine. Everything was CLEARLY premade or frozen at one point and reheated. The live music was great, the ambience was great, the server was nice and even explained to us that two of the dishes we asked for without cheese are already premade- which honestly should've set our expectations then. The WINE was decent and if we had just came here for drinks- would have sufficed. The pricing per glass was on par and the selection was ample for a local spot. The sauce is literally one of those sauces where you taste it and the flavor makes you stop and say "where is the bread so I can sop up the rest so no one else gets any" Might result in you ordering one per person and just make it your entree. (Yea, I know this is a Tapas place, small plates, sharing, blah blah blah, but that dish is so good that sharing might require some kind of written agreement between the sharers) Mushrooms were awesome, the filet mignon skewers were killer, eggplant chips with honey?!- yea do it. And of course bacon wrapped dates which I think is what they greet you with at the pearly gates. On the Sangria - just the right amount of fruit - love the fact they did not put monster amounts of fruit in it (some places do that). Get a pitcher if you are 3 or more. The ambiance was great and service was super fast. Suggestion: loved the guitar music - great mix of classic Latin and other stuff (did a great rendition of a Prince tune). Loved this spot! Met here with 3 friends, we ordered a few different dishes and a couple glasses of wine. I ordered the "Daniel Costerno Nascetta" wine it was an organic white Italian wine! Chicken empanadas my friend loved them! The fried calamari wasn't fishy and she said was light! The patatas braves (home fries) basically crispy potato bites were very yummy! Recommend ordering them! Dessert- churros are filled with custard, made fresh and come with a sensational chocolate dipping sauce! Don't sleep on the flourless chocolate chip with ice cream, rich and amazing to share! I did make a reservation on open table for 4 at 6:30 on Thursday and didn't have any issue!
