    Base of couscous or chickpeas

Very close to Journal Square Path We tried this place one rainy Saturday for lunch.... first time trying this place. There was just another customer in this place on that day. The folks at the counter were very nice and gave us real generous portions of our dishes and walked us through the 'make your own' process. There are lot of options and add ins. Sauce options are plenty. It was hearty meal! Place is clean and well maintained. Definitely a good place to go to for healthier fast good option. The person running the place got us a warmed up pita to our table....small nice gesture!

Happy to see another restaurant opening near the path station and close to my house! Service was quick on Mar 23, the day after grand opening during lunch time -- not many people besides one or two tables that came in after me. The server helped explain everything I could add to my bowl which I appreciated, and let me know when anything was additional cost. The order style is just like Cava or Chipotle/Qdoba. The base price for a bowl is $12.95 pretax and my cost came out to $16.47 for a bowl because it was an extra $2 for steak and an extra 0.50 cents for a slice of eggplant. A biiiiit pricy, but I do feel that the thin eggplant slice is not worth it for adding cost - the taste was decent though. Overall, the food was warm and yummy. Everything seemed decently fresh and the sauces were great -- definitely reminds me of Cava! They play nice top U.S. hits in the restaurant which is fun, and overall decor is trendy, bright, and playful. Would recommend to come once in a while for a quick bite and hang out with friends! Here's what was in my bowl in the order you place it at the counter: - Organic Mediterranean Couscous (almost like a substitute for rice) - Farmers Mix - Moroccan Steak (+$2) - OG hummus, spicy hummus, tsatziki sauce (you can pick up to 3) - Tomato, cucumber, onion, cabbage - Roasted chickpeas and roasted garlic - 1 roasted thin eggplant slice (+0.50) - Garlic jalapeño sauce and traditional Tahiti sauce (at the end) Note: Seems like there's supposed to be guest wifi here as well, but I don't see the password anywhere - might need to ask. Could definitely work here with a laptop, but there's not many outlets. From where I am sitting, there's none by me but I do see one by the window.

The place opened recently in Journal Square and I decided to give it a try. Everything around the area aren't the healthiest, so I'm glad they opened a Mediterranean place. I love how there are a lot of tables and seats with bright lights. The workers were extremely nice and helpful. The person who got my order explained all the food and their names. The worker even offered me a free falafel to try! And that falafel is amazing!! I ordered a bowl which was $12.95. I get to pick a mix & match base, 3 hummus spreads, chicken shawarma, and unlimited toppings and dressings. I dined in and I feel comfortable. The place is nice and clean. I will definitely come back for more food!

Food (5/5): Really nice make your own Mediterranean bowl, bits, or wrap place. There is a variety of options and the ingredients tasted high quality. I had a bowl with all the bases including couscous, spinach, farmers mix, and kale. Then I picked 3 hummus types, the lemon chicken, and then had all the free toppings. The sauces I picked were also delicious. Service (5/5): Very friendly and patient service. They did a good job explaining and was helpful. Additionally, they let us try a free fresh falafel. Ambiance (5/5): Very clean and modern looking restaurant. The layout was simple and looks pretty.

Stopped in to check out the new spot that just opened in JSQ. I wasn't sure what to get , so went for the chicken shawarma wrap. The staff was friendly and told what comes with the wrap. You pick your base which come with 3 spreads. I went with the feta , eggplant and tzatziki. Then you pick your veggies and then add your toppings and your choice of sauce . The chicken shawarma doesn't have the typical shawarma taste. Since I went with the feta, you get the sour taste (salty) . I don't think the wrap is the right choice for the shawarma. I'll have to try it once more . The price is $12 and you do get something very filling.

Decided to come try this place out as me and my partner have been saying we wanted to try and reviews were promising. My partner got a lemon chicken wrap and I didn't did the bow with chicken shawarma! The place wasn't to busy and was attended to by the staff very well. I chose my options and had a delish and healthy bowl for dinner. The sauce complimented my food very well and was statisfied with the portion. My partner enjoyed their wrap very much as someone who doesn't explore with foods that ok often enjoyed his wrap a lot. Were wi definitely be back when we need sowthign to grab and go!

I'm giving Hummus Republic 4 stars because it is a decent addition to the JSQ area. The area is in desperate need of more variety and healthier options. I stopped here to check it it out. JSQ is not parking friendly so this place is for the folks passing by and coming off of the path. The interior is bright and inviting. There are options to choose from such as a wrap, salad or bowl. I chose a salad. You get to pick your choice of toppings. There were a few different types of hummus. I chose the eggplant hummus. I also got chicken and tzatziki as well as grape leaves. I got a side of sweet potato fries as well. The food was good and the ingredients seem fresh. I've definitely had better hummus however the place is a good lunch alternative to add to up and coming JSQ.

New restaurant in town! Satisfactory but they are stingy & pricey. Pretty sure the owners are who greeted me when I entered. The server (a black young lady) was very helpful with educating me on what certain menu items were & how ordering worked. I'm not one that chooses a build it yourself restaurant over pre-chef menu items because I'm afraid my concoctions won't be good & no one is refunding you for your own lack of chef skills. Lol. Anyhow, I proceeded to order after discovering it was a place where you build your own meal. It was about to close in 30mins, there was a ton of shawarma chicken remaining, which I ordered, I was the only one in sight, yet she gave me one small scoop of chicken on the pita. I thought to myself, with the owners there watching not one of them thought it'd be better to get rid of the meat generously instead of throwing it away at the end of the night? I mean, surely they don't reuse meat next day. Essentially, I feel they don't give you enough for what you pay and they may be wasteful. Other than that, I'm glad to see a unique & Indian owned company here that has upper scale vibes. I wish them luck. Go, enjoy

Flavors are good but jeez for $15 the bowl I got was definitely lacking in size. For that amount it should be double the amount of food easily. Will give another chance because may have just had a bad night and other photos look better, but not the first experience I was hoping for.

Hummus Republic packs a punch. The falafel were made fresh for my order which I loved. They also have other proteins like chicken. The couscous is my favorite base and a perfect base to the different hummus's and spreads. Get the pita chips too they are delicious. This place has multiple locations all over nj. Tough to find street parking here but they have a paid parking garage underneath. Would definitely come back.

Located conveniently across the street from the Journal Square path train station, Hummus Republic offers quick and fresh Mediterranean food in a build-your-own style. They offer wraps, pitas, or bowls--I ordered a bowl, and was very impressed with the portions! The worker helping me with the order was very nice too and patient in explaining how it works. For the base, you can choose from couscous, chickpeas, kale, spinach, and/or mixed greens, and can choose as many of them as you'd like. Then are the 6 hummus and spreads, of which you can choose 3-I tried and enjoyed the eggplant hummus, harissa hummus, and tzatziki (note that the harissa hummus is a bit spicy). After that, you can choose a protein. I was recommended the lemon chicken, which did not disappoint, but there are also vegan options (falafel and vegan beef). Finally, you can choose as many toppings and dressings as you'd like; besides all of the great veggie options, I enjoyed mixing in the roasted chickpeas which added a nice crunch. Overall, the meal was affordable, sizable, and delicious. Will definitely be coming back!

Fresh and delicious! I got the lemon chicken salad with the farmer's mix (a mix of lettuce, kale and spinach) for my base. I loved that the meal was filling without feeling stuffed. Lots of topping options and the employee patiently gave me samples of the different types of hummus to try. I was disappointed that the salad didn't come with a side of pita included. I had to pay extra for that. I also wished I could pay to add just one or two falafels to add to my salad. Instead I had to purchase an order of 5 pieces. The beets topping tasted a little too sweet for me. They did have a roasted chickpeas topping option as well as a jalapeño roasted garlic combo topping that was delicious and will definitely keep the vampires away . I'll be back!

Delicious! Love the variety. They serve a lot of food in a bowl. The drinks are delicious, I recommend the turmeric, ginger lemonade. The ambiance is pleasant, the hanging chairs are so cute. The service is friendly and quick! Would definitely recomment to those Mediterranean lovers.

And the prices are closer to Sweetgreen than JustSalad, which is fine. But the macros looked solid and it's close to Base, so I was on the fence. One of the staff was kind enough to chat me through the menu and our nutrition plans, so I told myself I would give it a shot. It greatly exceeded my expectations. Think back to before Panera sold out to Corporate cost-minimizing, it was even notably better than that. The spicy calabrian caesar is simply a perfect lunch. The lettuce was crisp, the chicken was fresh, the chilis were thin-sliced and pickled to add a more delicate heat and acidity, the parmesan is shaved reggiano to add a bold cheesy bite that can stand up to the spicy caesar dressing. And I had crispy shallots and quinoa on mine, which was excellent. Even the croutons were fresh. I read a little online and it's clear by the attention to the food and the community fundraising / philanthropy that these are owners that are looking to invest in the neighborhood and the community, not checking some excel spreadsheet on their phone from a resort in Italy (looking at you, Panera. Nobody made you sell out). What a fantastic experience. I went with half white rice, half mixed greens, tuna and spicy tuna, scallions, cucumber, edamame, mango, ginger, masago, spicy mayo, sesame seeds, and shredded nori. The bowl was flavorful, fresh, and very filling! It was perfect for a late lunch or early dinner. However, I'm giving it four stars because the proportions were a bit off. There was way too much ginger, not nearly enough mango, and definitely more white rice than mixed greens, despite ordering a half-and-half base. Still, it hit the spot, and I'd come back again!
