Why, yes, I did get the vegan gyro platter just so I could have a new thing to review and take a picture of. It was better than it needed to be, but even with the more obvious appeal of beef-lamb gyros, the platters here are kind of a group effort. The JC/Hoboken region has an array of new Greek spots. At the risk of making enemies I'm going to comparatively mention the key players. The pork gyro over at Tros in Hoboken is my favorite specific meat and Efi's Gyro in JC is probably my sauce favorite. I'd give the platter edge to Ela Greek Kitchen for the excellent salad; they include a lettuce-less horiatiki here. And the fries are top-notch too. So we went here on a date, and were surprised it isn't sit down based on the prices on the menu. The interior is adorable. We went up to the counter and ordered. I got the halloumi wrap and my date got the falafel pita. The service was okay, nothing special or out of the ordinary. The food did come out pretty quickly and they did serve it to us at our table. The halloumi wrap was decent but I have some notes. There was a ton of cucumber and not sliced the same size and this was jarring for a texture person. I love halloumi but this was a bit too salty. The spread was delicious and the falafel was good and moist. I wouldn't come back for this. I think if the price point was a bit better, I'd stop here for a bite, but this current experience didn't sell me. read more

Ordered takeout from here, super great portion size.. ordered a mediterranean salad with chicken souvlaki and was so surprised by the size. Also generous with the feta cheese, and the baked/fried pitas? on top were crunchy and delicious. It was definitely the size of two salad portions (for me). I would order from here again. read more

I'm 99.9% certain I got severe food poisoning (that hospitalized me and caused me to lose 3 days of income) from this place a few weeks back. We filed a complaint with the JC Dept of Health & Human Services and they did an inspection last week; they found several aspects of EK's kitchen and refrigeration not up to required standards; they'll be doing another inspection again soon. My husband emailed this place, but of course they never replied back. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

Really happy with Ela! Consistently good Greek - they know how to do a gyro! Perfect proportions on all toppings, thinly sliced crispy lamb, and a solid pita. We also got the Mediterranean salad with chicken, it was massive (definitely more than a single serving for most people) and delicious. Tirokafteri dip on point as well. Downgraded from 5 stars to three. The food is blander than it used to be. I really enjoyed the mixed grill when they first opened. But it's no longer what I consider a good value. Nothing seems like a good value compared to other Mediterranean food in the area. The falafel is decent. The fries are excellent. The chicken and lamb souvlaki are decent, just not anything special. There's at least 2 places that are walking distance that have way more flavorful food and what I consider a better value for presentation and volume. It's a shame because this place started so strong. They've also messed up several of my takeaway orders. So I started checking everything before leaving. Which is a shame, because they package it so nicely. Only for me to have to rummage some of the packaging to check to see if they decided to give me everything. Some of the staff are epically excellent and have gone above and beyond. Though some have acted very uncaring with their mistakes, like it was a normal and frequent thing. It's a bit of a dice roll. Everything at this restaurant was delicious. The spanakopita was crispy and full of spinach and feta cheese on the inside. It tasted very fresh. We also ordered some spicy Tzatziki, which came with a good amount of pita bread. The lamb souvlaki platter came with a good amount of food, and the meat was very tender. The chicken souvlaki platter was also very good, and the chicken was very flavorful. The platters came with a lot of fries, pita bread, and a side salad. They also came with a small dip. Overall, this restaurant is a great addition to downtown Jersey City. They do have seating on the inside, which was spacious and had plenty of seats. It's giving everything you need after a long day! I've gone to ela Greek kitchen now twice and both times I have came in hungry and left so satisfied. The food is absolutely delicious. I got a chicken pita wrap and the flavors are plentiful. Everything is sauced up but not over saucy and it just tastes so amazing. I could eat one of their gyros every single day but I won't because I don't wanna be broke. And speaking of price it's a pretty good bang for your buck. The wrap is about 11$ and it's a hefty size. It's incredibly filling and I typically eat half for lunch and the rest for dinner unless I'm starving then its gotta be the whole wrap. Also not for nothin multiple people saw me eating this and saw how happy I looked and stopped and asked me about it and then walked in. I'm not a paid actor it's just THAT yummy. I usually order it to go but then I sit outside at some of their tables. You have a nice view of people just walking by and being in the outdoors. The inside is cute as well but it gives more chipotle vibes in terms of like sitting. It's not meant to be like going out on a fancy date sit down meal. It's Greek street food vibes. So you can set urself and it's cute inside. Idk if anyone cares but nice clean bathrooms as well. The staff is always super friendly and nice and it's just overall an amazing vibe. This was my first time in Jersey City and I had to visit this spot. I heard so many good things about the food and service. The atmosphere is chill and laid back. The cashier worker was kind and pleasant. We didn't have to deal with the receipt after eating and paid at the cashier which was amazing for my introverted soul. My friend didn't finish her lamb/beef pita wrap because it was huge: she didn't want to bring it on the PATH -- and there wasn't enough tzatziki sauce. Place was decent, the staff was pretty nice and patient with us. We stopped by after attending a festival and my friend was pretty hungry. I ordered Spanakopita for me and told my friend to order me something good as dessert. Spanakopita was okay, not the best I had but it was okay. Here's my overall thought; the yeero are authentic, with plenty of protein options to choose from. Greek fries are amazing!!! They consist of feta cheese, oregano, and lemon juice..... You might also want to check out their new added item to their menu: -Fried feta cheese lightly breaded, deep fried and topped off with a coat of spicy honey and sesame seeds. Accompany that with fried pita chips to balance it out.. And can I say, the girl at the register with tattoos was so sweet and very helpful in understanding the menu and pairing items to my cravings. I typically don't walk down the main strip when I'm heading to/from the Path station at Grove, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the storefront. We returned a few day later to grab take out. I had a chicken souvlaki bowl with rice and greens. The rice and greens was such a large portion that I had enough for lunch the next day. I would recommend ordering an extra side of tzatziki because the small container they give you with the meal is not enough! X had their combo gyro and it was amazing. Besides Cava this is honestly my other top favorite bowl place! But what makes Ela's even better is that it's not a chain & feels super authentic with a consistency in flavor & generous portions! I kinda don't wana say I wish this was a chain, only to have hopes they'll have a second location nearer to me in Essex County! Rice is so fluffy & is nicely lightly seasoned... the chicken yeero as non-traditional as it is as lamb is my favorite here & crave it, ESPECIALLY with their white sauce which I highly recommend you ask for extra & the salad also comes with its own dressing. I was so excited to some Greek food opened on the strip! Vibe - I came in here on a Sunday evening and sat inside, which is really nicely decorated. They have a couple outdoor tables too. Service - it's fast casual so you order and pick up your food at the counter. The cashier was super nice and friendly. Food - the menu has a great variety! It has all the Mediterranean staples and the quality of food was pretty good. Couple things that makes me not give a 5 star review is the container the food is brought it, even when you're dining in. I know it sounds silly, but it comes in card board containers which makes the food come a little soggy. Also, we got the beef and lamb platter and the amount of meat you get for the price is off. There wasn't a lot of meat in there for it to be $19. Would I come here again? Probably. It was good! I want to try other things on the menu. Would it be frequently? Probably not as again I don't think you get your moneys worth when it comes to the platter. read more

I got the falafel platter which contained falafel, fries, and salad (it does come with a pita but I am gluten sensitive so I asked for it without pita. An employee told me that the falafel does not contain gluten but it is fried in the same oil as all of the gluten stuff). The food was delicious, particularly the fries. I think I would have liked more sauces with the plater in general to balance out the falafel. There is a nice outdoor seating area! Ultimately, although I enjoyed the food, I don't think I would come back or at least not often because of the price point. It was $19 for the platter. It looked like the platter was the same price no matter what protein you chose, so I wonder if it would feel more worth the price to get meat. read more

The lemon chicken orzo soup is one of the best soups I've ever had in my life. I've ordered it consistently for about a month now multiple times a week. Having lived in Greece growing up, this restaurant is the most authentic one I have come across. Their yeero is not dry and very flavorful while their souvlaki is perfectly cooked and plentiful in the pita wrap. Also a must try is their lemon chicken orzo soup! read more

I went to Ela with my husband a few months ago and loved the food (specifically the halloumi wrap )... so we decided to have Ela cater our son's first birthday party! The food was so delicious.
