Wagyu and sake toro (I think...?)

Food was excellent and fresh, Service was attentive and a sushi chef Robert was excellent. Overall 10 out of 10 for a Thursday lunch to treat myself.

Absolutely amazing Chinese food and incredible sushi!! The sushi chef is so nice and makes incredible dishes. I tried so many of the nigiri bites and each was delicious and I could tell the fish used was fresh and high quality. I've tried a number of the Chinese food dishes as well and they are all great (my favorite is their orange chicken and beijing beef). Very clean restaurant and they are always playing a movie on the TV which is nice. Sometimes service is slow, probably due to short staff. Will be a regular here!

Okay, living in downtown Austin I feel very lucky and spoiled.... I was SO PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!!! Was super clean, inviting and even had live fresh roses on each table. The staff were attentive and quick. Super friendly. Prices were great and the food was better than expecting for a strip shopping joint. The chicken coconut curry was not too spicy and had just the right amount of kick on the back end. The vegetables in it were incredibly fresh as well! The egg drop soup was as egg drop soup SHOULD BE when most fall short. It was a thick hearty broth and lots of whipped egg whites in it. Incredibly tasty. All in all I'd go back in a heart beat next time I'm in Elgin.

Calamari was amazing

This place is amazing and the sushi chef is from Chicago and can make anything. So amazing and fresh. Been to a lot of high end sushi places and this one takes the cake. Thanks Beijing we love it.

Egg Drop Soup

Stopped here on our way back to town from Austin to Huntsville. We were about two hours from home but if I'd known how good it was, I'd have ordered quart sizes of everything. I started with lettuce wraps with chicken. The flavor of the chicken and veggies was savory and perfectly diced so it wrapped well. The lettuce was cool and crisp and the perfect vehicle for the chicken and veggies. Egg drop soup was slurpy great! I added a small stream of soy sauce for the perfect bite of savor. Egg roll was crispy and fresh with a perfectly sweet and sour sauce for dipping. The entree was so filling, and I was so happy to have a few leftovers. My coworkers and I have joked about a road trip just to get more of their food.

This is my duck off spot it's real chill and I recommend it over Panda Express lol I would recommend this spot to anybody basically the only Chinese joint we have in town. 2 thumbs up. The food never disappoints.

Ehhhhhh I'm not a fan. I gave 3 stars because the portion was cool, and my children enjoyed it. My WASband will eat anything so the chicken was bland with a weird texture, they looked way better than they tasted. Never heard of lemongrass soup; but it sounded interesting...not that great. I love basil so I tried the basil chicken and there was NOOOO BASIL! the egg drop soup didn't taste like any I've ever had before; but after adding siriacha it was cool. I tasted a lil from everyone's plate for this review and NOPE. It wasn't nasty, don't get me wrong. It just wasn't what I was expecting. It just didn't taste like they have Asians in the kitchen cooking. I can't speak on the service because I had the Mister go order and pick it up‍ I might give them another shot since they are super close. Update/Response: I actually found this place on Yelp; and used the directions in the app to get here. I also added a picture of the menu to confirm the location. If I drive to Manor, it's going to be for Tai food. Oh and correction; my family actually really liked the lemongrass soup, just a little disappointed about the shrimp having the tail still on.

Sushi is my ultimate favorite food, so after reading countless glowing reviews, I was beyond excited to finally experience Sushi by Scratch for myself. My friend booked this about a month in advance and thoughtfully noted my dietary restrictions. There was Wagyu on the menu, which they seamlessly substituted for me without hesitation, and they also accommodated my pineapple allergy with zero issues. The attention to detail started well before the first bite. Guests are invited to arrive about 30 minutes early to complete check-in and participate in the pre-omakase ritual. After checking in, we were seated in the waiting area and served a refreshing non-alcoholic ginger beverage, followed by canape service. We were given 2 beautifully prepared bites as we waited to transition into the full experience. It set the tone perfectly. Once guided into the omakase room, we were greeted with a handwritten wooden name plaque at our seat, a small but thoughtful touch that immediately made the evening feel personal. With only a 10-seat counter, the experience is incredibly intimate. The chefs introduced themselves, and we were presented with the beverage options. Two of us opted for the Japanese whisky pairing, while another chose the sake pairing, both excellent complements to the meal. Before the first piece even hit the counter, the chefs revealed the night's journey on the wall: 16 wooden plaques, each hand-lettered with the names of pristine fish and indulgent bites. It reads like a quiet flex on hamachi, madai, akami, toro, A5 wagyu where each course waiting its turn. It's a reminder that omakase isn't about choice but about surrender. One detail that truly stood out was how effortlessly accommodating they were. When my dietary restriction came up again, the Wagyu substitution was handled with no hesitation, no awkwardness--just a seamless adjustment that still felt intentional and indulgent. Throughout the meal, the chefs chatted with us as they prepared each course, explaining the fish, techniques, and flavor profiles. The interaction felt warm and natural, and the intimate setting made it easy to connect not only with the chefs but also with the guests seated next to us. Overall, this was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. I would highly recommend Sushi by Scratch to anyone who truly loves omakase. I'm already thinking about doing this again next time at their LA location when I get back home.

Amazing experience and worth every penny! We will be back. The level of service is incredibleread more

This restaurant is the halfway point between mine and my boyfriend's house. So if I want to pick up some good dinner on the way I will call in our order to Shogun and pick it up. Our typical order is the Mikado special for him and Chicken or shrimp Teppanyaki for me. The orders, even the kids menu items come with rice, veggies, house salad, onion soup and a shrimp appetizer. Every visit over the past 4 years, even last night, The greeters and the takeout hosts have always been super friendly and prompt with orders. There's a full bar so you're welcome to order a drink while you wait. I've been known to order a glass of wine on one or five my visits. :) The food is a bit pricey but you get a lot for what you pay for. The flavor is always been good and consistent. I love the onion soup and the house salad. I'll never order the cucumber salad again because it has imitation crab on it and it's just not my prefer type of cucumber salad. I love Japanese and Korean cucumber salad but not this one. And that's okay. If you like imitation crab in your cucumber salad, give it a try. Anywho, as long as this man is my man and this is remains our halfway point, I'm sure I'll be ordering takeout many more times :)

I was completely baffled when my order came out and I saw that the dish was instant noodles with half an egg. It even came with the ingredients you get in the little pack for instant ramen. If it looks and tastes like instant ramen, it's instant ramen. Totally not worth $15. If I ever return, I'll either get their bento boxes or try their sushi instead.
