1.23.23 This restaurant is located in the Watermont Plaza neighborhood off of Montgomery Rd. My husband's employee recommended this restaurant as he comes here whenever he is working in the area. The owner and her daughter work here. Her daughter worked multiple roles including taking our order and doing deliveries. She informed us that the restaurant has been in business for 30+ years and was previously owned by someone else. They took it over about six years ago. The owner is very friendly and personable although her English is not proficient. She brought out this chicken for Lunar New Year, which was interesting. The restaurant is small and although dine-in is available, it's predominantly carryout and deliveries. The menu is pretty extensive and I had a tough time deciding what I wanted. I finally went with the house combo, which included meat, seafood, and veggies in a brown sauce. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My husband ordered the wonton soup and lo-mein. He enjoyed both of them. Great service and food. I enjoyed my dinner more than my husband. We will definitely keep this in our rotation and be back. read more

This is our go to take out, but tonight was not good. Got the hot crispy beef, and the sauce was a sticky mess. Called them and they basically said that is how they make it. Didn't even offer to remake it or make another dish. Just said oh well. Not good business practice, especially for a regular customer. Will take my business else where. read more

This hidden gem in Ellicott City is amazing. I've passed it numerous times and always hear good things about it. We finally tried it and was satisfied. The restaurant is a small dine in spot but majority people order take out. We decided to dine in along with a man dining solo. We were literally the only two parties that dined in. There were a ton of take our orders. ORDER: Combination Fried Rice - I rarely like Chinese Fried rice but this fried rice was very yummy. The combination fried rice comes with shrimp, beef and chicken. It also comes with the usual egg and seasoned perfectly. There are options for beef, chicken or shrimp if you don't want the combination. Beef Pan Fried Noodles - This is my favorite that is actually hard to find. I was very pleased they had it here. The lady asked if I wanted the American version or the Chinese. Chinese version all the way. It was A-Mazing. It's beef with crunchy noodles that perfectly blend well with the sauce that soften up as you mix it together with the greens. I personally like the crunch because it makes it exactly what it is; Pan Fried. There are options for pork, chicken or combination. Beef is my go to when ordering this dish. Szechuan Beef - This was beef with veggies and a little kick of spice. There was more veggies than beef but it was delicious either way. It came with a side of white rice. Service is good. They get busy so you have to be patient but it's worth the wait. We didn't wait that long so I wasn't bothered. We definitely plan on coming back to dine in or order take out. read more

This is our go-to place for Chinese takeout and it's always good. Tonight, though, it was GREAT. We ordered our favorites and they were all somehow even better than usual. Fish in black bean sauce, shumai, spring rolls, triple delight in hot garlic sauce, pork fried rice, moo shu pork - all delicious. Also, I needed some info on how to order gluten free a few weeks ago, and the restaurant responded to my inquiry quickly and with more care than I expected, chatting with me at some length about different dishes and how to order each. I have lived in Hong Kong and Taiwan and this is the closest I've come to Chinese food that taste like it was made in Taiwan or Hong Kong. The vegetables are always so fresh and the meat so tasty and fresh never and after taste. And the portions are always large enough for two meals. Instead of apologizing and trying to replace immediately they called and gave me the 3rd degree like I lied about the crab Rangoon RUDE. I've ordered it spicy (egg drop soup + their spicy red pepper chili sauce) before too, which is pretty good, but lately I've been just getting the normal egg drop soup. Thank goodness my Dad checked the bag and made them restate the order upon picking up. He had to fuss a bit for the front hostess to believe and replace the spring rolls with actual Egg rolls. That part was weird, BUT AND THIS IS A "BIG BUT", I am not even deducting stars for the mistake since we caught it. All the food was great. * 6 Egg rolls perfectly cooked, crispy and not soggy egg rolls still hit from the fryer due to my Dad's focus on getting it home timely for our family feast. We also got a side order/container of the BRIGHT HOT PINK SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE, not just a packet of duck sauce trying to pass as the totally American Sweet and Sour we love so much. Best sauce to dip our egg rolls in as the appetizers. **Large portions for family size orders. House fried rice was perfect and had white chicken meat in it. Not that "hard to identify" dark chicken meat (Yuck). It also had the big perfectly shaped and not overcooked shrimp throughout the order. Probably 8-10 shrimp spread throughout the order. *** The Orange Chicken is spicy even when you order MILD. But it was fresh and tasted great. Three very hungry adults shared the 6 Egg rolls, House Fried Rice and Mild Orange Chicken (that is served with steamed unseasoned broccoli and steamed rice). Everyone Loved it and we ate the left overs the next day. Again Just warning you this place is fabulous for those looking for those families seeking out that perfect flavor only tasted in the fine establishments serving true AMERICANIZED CHINESE FOOD not for those looking for a more traditional flavored Chinese dinner. We checked out this place being back in town. We were pleasantly surprised how good it was! Front desk staff was very friendly, service was quick. Husband got curry noodles that had that perfect amount of spice without being too spicy. Chicken lettuce wraps were really good! Sesame chicken was maybe the best I've had in a long time. Decided to try this place for the first time and the food was not good. I ordered shrimp lo mein, chicken with mixed vegetables (asked for brown sauce), and a hot and sour soup. The shrimp lo mein was nasty and bland- literally a bunch of un-sauced noodles, a few shrimp and barely any additional vegetables. The chicken and vegetables was not tasty either. I asked for brown sauce, which they did accommodate, but I felt the broccoli was over cooked and mushy and the flavor was not something I'd want again. The hot and sour soup was nasty too- it was too slimy (consistency like raw egg whites in a bowl) and the flavor was just weird. I threw the food away because it was nasty. Surprisingly, the chicken/vegetables was part of a combo and it came with egg drop soup, and that was the only thing that was ok. The food was not worth the pricing at all! I'd add that I had no problem with the service- the food was ready when I got there, and the people seemed nice, but food is just not their thing. Should have been a giveaway that the food would suck being that the dine-in restaurant was empty on a Friday night. That was my first and last time there. read more

Adventures in DoorDash: Since moving here I have frequented China Village. It is the closest Chinese food restaurant to my house. They never disappoint. Tonight we got a DoorDash because of all the snow outside our house and again the food was delicious. We ordered the General Tso, Basil Beef, and Sweet and Sour Chicken. All three dishes were very good. We also got dumplings which I think are good at all the Chinese restaurants in this area. I have noticed a huge difference in Maryland dumplings then in VA. The dumplings here are much larger and just more delicious in general. I'm a fan! The only negative would be that I asked for the General Tso and Basil Beef to be extra spicy. I even put it in ALL CAPS, but it was not even a little spicy. They need to bring the heat, when it is asked of them. read more

Not only did they completely leave off one item, but the fried rice and rice noodles tasted super greasy/soapy, and the "Sesame Shrimp" that I ordered arrived as boiled shrimp in a disgusting soup of some kind of sweet and sour mess. Stopped by here to pick up food for a friend who was sick. He was craving this places' combination fried rice. I said sure no problem and stopped at this place in the middle of nowhere. When I picked up the food, I was greeted by a young lady with a luke warm greeting. There just wasn't anything welcoming about her. Finally a good Chinese takeout joint. I simply ordered a Kung Pao Shrimp, Veggie Lo Mein, and eggrolls to go. So nice to get some Kung in the Pao....this place is not afraid of spice, like many of the others trying to conform to us Americans. We want spice people!! At least I do! The portions were triple, so you could simply order one dish and feed two people. I was very pleased with the price and portion size. This place tops Hunan (in Dorsey) by far!!! Ordered delivery the other day. Lady on the phone said they were busy so it would be 45 minutes. No problem. After an hour, I called. She said the driver was on his way. After an hour and fifteen minutes, I called again. She called the driver and told me he'd be there any minute- and then told me I live too far away. After an hour and a half, I called and canceled the order. Again, I was told I live too far away. I live 3.5 miles from them. And if that truly is out of their delivery area, perhaps they should figure that out before they accept an order. Never again. read more

Every dish is great. The owners are kind and good. Once I paid the bill for a large party, via credit card, and didn't notice they had already added gratuity. So I added 20%. A couple days later I checked my credit card statement and saw that they had never submitted the additional tip. They correctly realized that I had overlooked the fact that gratuity had already been added. China Village does more takeout business than sit-down business and thus the restaurant doesn't have the greatest atmosphere. People are constantly coming and going. That's my only reason for giving four stars instead of five. read more

They do a great business for carry-out, I always pick up the carry-out order and have never tried the delivery service. I usually order the chicken and broccoli, beef & broccoli, or pork and they always have been very good. My wife likes their Happy Meal. Yes, the place is a small family restaurant, and yes, the decor and seating are very basic - but I don't patronize establishments to meet the owners or relish the decor a schmanzy dining room. I want good food. China Village was OK; not bad, but also not great. The sesame chicken combo was better than average, with a good-sized portion. The egg drop soup tasted like a watery yolk, and the egg roll was a bit over cooked and with a somewhat flavorless filling. The hot and sour soup was mild, and my Triple Threat was a huge portion, but also low on flavor. The staff was friendly and the overall experience mediocre. For an American Chinese take out combo place - 4 stars. I usually order a combination platter that consists of Orange, Sesame, Kung Pao, or General Tso's chicken, white rice, egg roll, soup. Pretty simple. The chicken dishes have all been good. The chicken is not stringy and actually can be reheated and eaten the next day without losing a lot of meat integrity. Flavors are on the mild side, but I can let that slide as long as the meat is tender. Egg roll -- standard and similar to most Chinese places. White rice -- actually cooked properly. Some places they over cook their rice and it is like eating white plastic. Hot n Sour soup -- flavor is just ok (not very hot), but they don't gyp you on ingredients. Also it is not loaded with salt. Fried dumplings were decent. Even for a combination platter, the portions are huge. 2 combination platters will easily cover a family of 4. Delivery is timely. Not the best American Chinese I've had, but probably the best near my house. read more
