So, so disappointed with this place, for several reasons. I placed a large order for delivery - more than $95 - including two dinner combos that came with pork fried rice. I asked that vegetable fried rice be substituted. They phoned to tell me there would be a $1.50 extra charge per dinner for the substitution. Although that didn't make sense to me, I agreed because, at that point, I had 6 people waiting for dinner. I'm really dissatisfied because the cost of an order of vegetable fried rice is less than an order of pork fried rice, so it seems I was charged extra simply because they had to take the rice from a different pan. Another big disappointment was the food quality. Everything that came with "mixed vegetables" was about 95% onions and cabbage. We really had to search to find any other types of vegetables typically in these dishes, such as broccoli, carrots, snow peas, etc. The food arrived 15 minutes later that stated, and was cold. The restaurant is less than 2 miles from my house, so I'm not sure what caused those issues. When the delivery was about 10 minutes late, and the delivery website showed no change, I called to ask where my order was. I don't know if they changed their cook or are under new management but the food as gone from great to gross in a matter of months. Our past three orders have consisted of dry, over-cooked chicken, undercooked rice, and excessively greasy egg/spring rolls. Their delivery times have been inconsistent - 20 minutes to over an hour. My husband and I just moved to Crofton from Annapolis. While we are not huge fans of the Chinese food in this area, Hunan Express has proved to be a great place to get take out in the Crofton Area. Also, the gal who answers the phone is easy to understand and our food always seems fresh! read more

Awful parking in this lot. Be ware in peak hours. Delivery took over an hour and I'm maybe a mile away...if that. I was charged for hot oil. I was charged for a TSP worth of hot oil. Hit or miss delivery. The General Tso's can be the best I've ever had, or the worst. Often times, it is quite tough (like its been under a heat lamp for hours). We like this place and order take out a lot. Very friendly lady behind the counter. Huge portions - they pack the boxes until they are bulging. My wife and I always get a general tso's to share and we can barely finish it between us. I read some of the other reviews complaining that it isn't always fresh tasting. We've found it is great if you order during peak meal times and they cook it right then. Once, when we ordered at odd hours it was kind of mushy - like it had sat under a heat lamp for a while or was maybe left over and re-heated from lunch. Absolutely the worst Chinese Food I've had, maybe in life. From the fried rice being just being hard white and stained regular rice to your order being whatever they want it to be. Either their website is monitored by someone or their employees are using/selling the credit card info. I'd advise against it. Limited experience but what I've had was great. Perfect American-Chinese food. We got the orange chicken and sweet/sour chicken, egg drop soup, egg rolls, and lo mien. Nothing was overly greasy (you need a little to make it right). Good value and quick for pick up. Ill be back. read more

I went there last night for the first time after going to the dentist next door late afternoon. While waiting in the parking lot, I called to place the order. Yes, I was sitting out front and called in my order for "real crab fried rice". As I waited 10min for the food to be cooked, I didn't see anyone patronize this place, while Ledo's next door was constantly busy. I went in to pick up my food and this is when the lady who took the order over the phone goes to the back to prepare my food. So now I'm waiting another 10min inside where there are two tables for customers, and 2 fish tanks near the counter. She drops in a bowl of rice on the stove and another bowl of something to mix in. We get the food home and all we see is rice and onions. No veggies, no "real crab meat", nothing else. We called to complain and she claims she used 8oz of crab meat in the rice. We didn't see 1 morsel that resembled crab meat, I knew I should have stuck to a shrimp dish. For $11 dollars I want more than a bowl of rice. I will not visit this place again! read more

Maybe four stars is slightly over the top, but I feel I have to somewhat make up for those in my opinion unjustified bad reviews - it's a CHINESE hole-in-the-wall, not a Michelin star fine dining establishment, for crying out loud!! Anyway, I picked up lunch there today for the first time (even though I've been going to the Gold's down the road for years, but the place is really tucked away) and was very pleasantly surprised - I got two soups (Won Ton and a mixed vegetable one), as well as the Lo Mein (with mixed meats) and the Bean Curd with Mixed Vegetables. First impression: HUGE portions!! When I lifted the styrofoam containers out of the carrier bag, I almost dropped them because I wasn't expecting this heavy :-) Second impression, after eating some of it: very tasty, the Lo Mein possibly a little on the salty side, which is ok for me because I love salty, but it might be a little much for some - so maybe specify less salt if you don't like or cannot eat lots of salt. The tofu dish was also really good, I don't know how they always manage to make tofu so tasty and when I make it myself, it tends to be bland...The entire check came to $21 bucks and this will provide several more meals for my husband and me - I hardly made a dent in it for lunch today!! It's not the best food I've ever had, but I found it to be tasty and certainly well worth the price. After finding out that Raymond no longer owns Hunan Express, it made sense because the fast service, fast delivery and good customer service over the past year of 2008 have definitely changed under the new ownership not to mention the food is not outstanding as it once was. The only gem of that place was the pretty girl named Jessica, that worked a few days a week- she was the only one we would come to see because, at least we would get great service as if Raymond had never left. My husband and I came in last night only to find out that our favorite girl was gone!- she would remember everything from your name to what you ordered and take the time to talk with every customer..now that is great customer service. We ordered General Tsao Chicken that was a bit too over-fried, the chicken wings we had tasted like they were old and pre-fried and our chicken and broccoli was 1/2 grease and a watery brown sauce. When we called to complain, the girl that worked there didn't seem to care that we as the customer were not happy. We have tried this place time and time again after several bad experiences- another being that the delivery guy that works mondays was very rude and he yelled at us for being under the minimum and being out of his way, we live in Odenton!! and another time we asked to speak to the manager only to be lied to by the current owner that Raymond was on delivery and that he would get back to us..when really it was them, Why lie to the customer when it's obvious the previous owner is gone?.
