I was full but it was too good to quit so I just demolished it. lol It was my first time ordering this particular dish from this restaurant wont be the last. The veggies were cooked perfectly- still crisp and flavorful. The chicken was in good sized pieces. Peanuts also still had great texture (not over cooked), flavor, and bright color. I normally don't rate carryouts because I find service and food quality can be so hit or miss depending on many factors. But, over the weekend, I was in the Fairlawn area of Bowie and decided to grab some Chinese food before I took the drive back across the bridge to Arlington. For some reason, the carryout food in PG County and DC seems to hit just a bit different/better than those in NOVA. Three of the four stars for this visit to Top China 88 are being given because of the excellent customer service I received. My Cousin cannot tolerate gluten but is always craving a steak and cheese sub. So, I requested a deconstructed steak and cheese. What is that you may ask. It is all the fixings of the steak and cheese sandwich over rice no bun and no cheese. So, basically the steak meat with sautéed peppers, onions and mushrooms. It was a hit and I will be coming back to order again. I also ordered some Singapore Mei Fun noodles. They were good also. As for ambience, I really can't say much. It's your typical carryout setup. But, if you opt to do so, you can eat in. It might even be a good spot to catch up with a friend that lives in the area or a date night with your better half if nobody feels like cooking. Ordered 3 wings with fried rice and mumbo sauce, steak and cheese egg roll, General Tso shrimp, and strawberry lemonade. The chicken was fried well but the mumbo tasted like the sweet and sour sauce which was a nasty and disappointing. I was able to darken it up that allowed the chicken to be more flavorful. The egg roll was ok but not enough filling. With the sriracha and mayo sauce, the roll was decent. The General Tso was ok just too bready and the strawberry lemonade tasted like a diet drink. I've ordered chicken and broccoli, chicken lo mein, beef and broccoli, Szechuan beef, cheesesteak egg roll and hot and sour soup. The food is super fresh especially the veggies (I LOVE veggies), the taste is great and you get your moneys worth. Inside were soft noodles with plump shrimp, crunchy Napa cabbage cooked in a lovely garlicky sauce. I wasn't expecting the side of fried rice but it was pipping hot and while I would not give it a top notch rating, it wasn't bad. The portion were generous for lunch. Pretty darn tasty Chinese and Hibachi food served up here on a daily basis. Top China 88 is your typical take-out spot, minus the thick bulletproof glass in front of the registers. (SN: Stop patronizing establishments that serve you behind bulletproof glass, they don't respect you, nor your money...IJS) The establishment itself is clean, prices are reasonable (especially the M-F lunch specials), you can either call in your order and expect it to be ready upon entry, or you can order it upon arrival and the turnaround time is rather quick. You can either dine inside or take your food home, so I opted for the later. Even though I live close, my food was still piping hot when I arrived home and the portion size was plentiful. My meal wasn't greasy, but I did realize that when I got home that I didn't get soy sauce. I guess if you don't ask, you don't receive. All and all, I was impressed. Food is ready when they say. Service each of the three times I have been has been friendly enough. Never rude. We had the cheesesteak egg rolls, veggie lo mein, veggie fried rice, Mongolian beef, and steak hibachi. My son was the only one who had the hibachi. He's a teenager and said it was good. I personally can vouch for the Cheesesteak egg rolls, veggie lo mein, veggie fried rice, and Mongolian beer. One time the cheesesteak egg rolls were a little thick on the wrapper though. Otherwise no complaints. Portion size was decent. Veggies were fresh and my food wasn't salty or greasy. I will note that my daughter did say on a separate occasion she ordered the generals tso's and did not care for it. I didn't taste it. I live in Upper Marlboro and drive here for my Chinese food. I've recently moved to the area and was in need of some Shrimp Mei Fun and a good Shrimp Egg Foo Young Gravy (both of which are not so easy to come by). I did a Yelp search and Top China came up as a place that was close and good so I had to give it a try. The service was good the lady taking my order over the phone didn't cut me off or make me feel rushed (sorry that's how I feel sometimes when I order Chinese), and the food was acceptable to my families Chinese standards (we like our food to taste fresh). They do not deliver which was ok because I was already out. The food was ready pretty quickly and it was nice and hot when we got home. I can summarize my takeout experience from this establishment in one word: subpar. **sigh** I had a craving for Chinese food this past Saturday night, and Top China wasn't too far away, so I decided to place a pick up order. I ordered the Singapore noodles, General Tsos chicken with fried rice, and an egg roll, which was about $19 total. Ok, not bad. About 10-15 minutes later we went to pick up the food. The establishment is in the shopping center at Fairwood. Our food was ready when we got there, the cashier was nice, and the place was brightly lit and clean. I want to be sure to mention all the positives, first. It's why this review has two stars and not one. However, when we sat down to eat the food, it was NOT GOOD. The Singapore noodles had a weird spice on it and it smelled different. Having had Singapore noodles many times I thought that was weird but continued to eat and give the food a chance. The egg roll was... weird tasting. Like we were confused. What was supposed to be veggies tasted somewhat like chicken... and not in a good way. :-/ Lastly, the General Tsos chicken was ok, but bland. We were so turned off by the food, we tried to eat one plate and threw the rest away. For context, as a general rule our household doesn't throw food out. But still.. It was piping HOT when we got back! That's a PLUS! The fellas were satisfied with their wings and I was made complete with my chicken and broccoli. All I can say is, Thank you Top China!! After seeing the good reviews I decided to try the Top China restaurant for carry out. I ordered sheyond chicken and General tse chicken. I did not recognise the General Tse chicken because it was loaded with a lot of vegetables, chunks of dark chicken, with some nuts sprinkled on it. Didn't see or taste any pepper that is usually on this dish since it is supposed to be spicy. The other dish also had chunks of vegetables and was not appetising. Actually, both dishes looked familiar with very similar vegetables piled on. Either I ordered the wrong dishes that they are not familiar with .....or they just make up dishes. read more

Went to Top China 88 after church and we were pleasantly surprised...the food was great with good sized portions...The part that was the surprise was the fact that they still honored the lunchtime menu/prices even on a weekend...truly not the norm. Also the guy at the register even warned my daughter about the size of the dinner portions vice lunch when she tried to order it (dinner portion), which accomplished 2 things...one, stopped her from wasting food and two, showed us that he was more concerned about his customers than the revenue...we will definitely be back!! read more
