It has been a little while. Long enough that they have totally remodeled. What used to be a dingy little counter to make your order/pickup is now a wide open well lit space. There are tables and chairs. My "little go to hole in the wall" has grown up. The food is the same, solidly and consistently average. I have been going there for years for food. But the last 3 times been very disappointed with the pricing, quality and quality of the food for $45.00. The pu-pu platter has always been my favorite. the pork ribs were very small 3.5" at best. The beef sticks 4" at best. The General's shrimp and rice was terrible, over cooked and very little sauce. Don't even waste your money purchasing food from here. We ordered General Tso's chicken, vegetable delight, and beef lo mein and none of these items tasted good. For one, the sauce in the chicken wasn't even spicy at all, it was probably thickened soy sauce with sugar and the chicken was so saturated in breading that it was literally 90%breading and 10% chicken. This place has become my go-to spot for Chinese takeout. Pretty much everything on the menu is awesome! Huge portions, lots of flavor, and many options to choose from. The combination platter is what I normally get. Includes an entree, egg roll, and white or fried rice. The wonton soup is out of bounds delicious! They drive it through flavor town and put it in a bowl :-) As far as the establishment itself, it doesn't scream "OMG have to stop their and eat inside" But, it does have your typical takeout vibe to it. Nothing special. They do have seating inside but I never see people dining inside. The service is pretty awesome too. They always give you an estimated time when your food will be ready which is great. So, grab your chopsticks...if you can, and enjoy some awesome Chinese food. read more

Scary on the outside, yummy on the inside. My husband and I have eaten there numerous times and it is never busy. The food is made fresh when you order off the menu, but nothing was touched at the buffet for the hour we sat and ate our meal, so I would personally avoid it. Our favorite dish is the crispy beef, and we always get a Pu-Pu Platter appetizer that is delicious. I had dinner at Hunan Odenton around 7:45 last night. The place was nearly empty and we were the only customers for most of the time there. Several take out customers did stop by to pick up their orders during that time. Service was friendly and prompt. The wait for the food wasn't too long. Regrettably, the server never refilled our drinks; not a big issue for us at the time. Both our dinner combinations were very good. The soups were hot and the entrees were flavorful. The fried rice wasn't as hot as I expected and the egg roll was rather bland; mostly cabbage inside. The menu indicates they have an inexpensive lunch buffet on weekdays and a surprisingly inexpensive dinner buffet on Saturday starting at 4:30. The buffet area is not very large so I expect the variety of items might be rather limited. I will be back again and I intend to try the buffet on some Saturday. read more

I am a take-out regular here, so I have had a good mix of the items on their menu. A couple thoughts: 1. There are several places in the area with "Hunan" in the name and I have overheard phone order confusion several times when picking up my food. Pro tip: Verify which place you called and avoid an awkward apologetic conversation. 2. Of the several "Hunan" places in the immediate area, this is my favorite. 3. The closest competitor (Hunan 'L Rose) to this place also has pretty solid food and has been around for a long time, but I find them to be way overpriced. Both are tasty, and this place doesn't try to rob you of your paycheck with $11 fried rice and $16 entrees. $7.95 - $10/11 is much more reasonable for a comparable product in my opinion. You will find all prices substantially cheaper here than the local competition. 4. I'd imagine they do fantastic delivery and pick-up business compared to dine-in. The restaurant itself is sorely overdue for a remodel, so if I were to dine-in and concerned about ambiance and vibe, I'd suggest maybe going elsewhere. 5. Recommendations: Pork Egg Foo Young... It is tough to find a place that does it well. The fried rice is good, fried dumplings are legit, and all of the chicken or beef dishes I've had have been good. Frankly, I haven't been disappointed yet. Bottom line: My Chinese take out go-to spot... food is as good as anywhere around and WAY cheaper. Aside from being a candidate for a decor makeover on food network, the combination of tastiness and value make it a ideal take-out or delivery option.
