Chicken Mei Fun
Danielle S.

I'm surprised this place only has 2.5 stars. This was always my go-to Chinese restaurant when I was living in Gates and I came back tonight to grab takeout while visiting my parents. Their food has always been consistently good. I ordered the chicken mei fun, an egg roll, and chicken fried rice. The order was ready in less than 15 minutes (I picked up in store). Everything tasted great. The egg roll was crispy but not too oily or overcooked, and the mei fun noodles had good flavor. The rice was also nice and a little bit salty, but I prefer my food that way. Overall I really like this place. I think they're reliable and have pretty good Chinese food. They do have a $10 minimum for credit card orders though, so keep that in mind when ordering with a card.

This is our go to Chinese spot. Always good. The employees are friendly and very accurate with our orders. I haven't found an item yet that I don't like. I also like that for $2 more I can change the rice to lomein in my combo plate. Feeds me for at least two meals.

Special lunch combo- Kung Pao chicken.

About time I updated my review...I have had several good experiences since my 2 star. Today being the most recent good experience. I ordered several items, one of which was a chicken noodle soup...well when I got home I saw that it was a chicken n rice soup. So I called them on the phone and told them the mess up. I asked if they could deliver me the correct item. They said no problem and apologized. Score 1 for customer service. What prompted me to update my review is when the driver arrived he even let me keep the incorrect item...double score for customer service!

I recently visited Hunan Garden and had a great experience. I ordered the beef noodles, which tasted great. I plan to visit again soon.

They tried hard to mimic Thai cuisine...not a successful venture. Unsure if Chinese style any better.

New Number One Chinese Restaurant - Full Review 1540 W…read moreRidge Rd, Rochester, NY 14615 Boss Fights and Bites Review Series First Impressions: The moment you walk in, you're hit with that classic takeout aroma - soy, garlic, sesame oil - you already know it's about to go down. The spot has that old-school Chinese takeout vibe: simple, clean, and focused on flavor, not flash. --- What I Ordered: General Tso's Chicken Shrimp Lo Mein Crab Rangoons Egg Roll Steamed Dumplings --- General Tso's Chicken: Sweet, spicy, and crispy - exactly how it should be. The sauce had a good kick without overpowering the flavor. Chicken was tender inside with that golden crunch. Easily one of the best in the area. Shrimp Lo Mein: Noodles were cooked just right - not too greasy, not too dry. Shrimp was fresh and had good bite. Could use a little more garlic or soy for depth, but still solid. Crab Rangoons: Creamy, crunchy, and packed with flavor. These were a hit. You get that satisfying crunch with the creamy crab filling - not overly sweet like some spots do. Steamed Dumplings: Soft and juicy with a flavorful pork filling. Dipping sauce was on point. Not doughy, just right. Egg Roll: Golden and crispy with a nice balance of cabbage and pork inside. Great with the duck sauce. --- Pros: Big portions, great value Fast service Hits all the nostalgic Chinese takeout cravings Clean and well-packaged Cons: Lo mein could use a little more flavor Limited seating (best for takeout) --- Final Verdict (8.9/10): New Number One Chinese Restaurant is bringing the heat. Classic Chinese-American dishes done right. If you're craving comfort food that hits every time, this place delivers - literally and figuratively. Perfect for a late-night boss fight meal or chilling after a long grind. Let me know what YOU always order from your local Chinese spot - and drop your suggestions for the next food battle

While visiting on a cool night, the Dan Dan Noodles sounded really appealing to me, and they did not disappoint! The bowl was a large portion with a good amount of noodles and tender, juicy ground pork. The broth was hot and spicy, but also flavorful...the heat was not too overpowering for me. I was very happy with my meal, but also happy to taste some other items we got to share. Edamame always seems like a good way to start a meal...these were overly salted for my liking. The scallion pancake was okay...a little small with just four thin pieces. More successful were the namesake dumplings. I really liked their versions of Xaio Long Bao - both the original pork and shrimp varieties contained delicious broth and fillings. We also shared the pork and chive dumplings, beef dumplings, and pork and corn dumplings...and we would order all of them again! The orange chicken was also an enjoyable dish to share, and good way to add some variety to the plethora of dumplings. I'm sure they get a lot of young customers from RIT and UofR, and the music catered more to this audience - it was a bit loud for my preference. But, service was very good and it is a fun casual environment to enjoy some good, reasonably priced chow with friends!
