Surprise surprise can you believe there is a decent Chinese food spot in Rosenberg. I decided to give this place a shot since I did not feel like driving all the way to Red Pepper in the Galleria . The lady who took my order was very helpful. I ordered the sesame chicken with shrimp fried rice. The food was actually pretty good to my surprise. I would have preferred more spice to my chicken. But I am sure they could increase the spice level upon request...I will be definitely checking this place out again. read more

I have always loved this restaurant since I was a kid. Today I went in for lunch with my family. My food was completely wrong. It tasted gross & it was awful. I called Elaine over, the owner, she picked up my food, put her HANDS in my food then ATE IT IN FRONT OF ME. She told me I was wrong & it was made perfectly. Was in the area on business and Hunan Garden was recommended by a local. From the outside its a bit sketchy in a run down strip center but once inside things improved exponentially. I had th Yu Hsaing pork off the lunch menu and was truly excellent. Somewhat sweet with a solid spicyness. The brown rice was well cooked. Even the egg drop soup, which came with meal was better than expected. And for portion size, I have a healthy appetite and walked out full. As I ate there was a constant stream of folks coming in both to eat in and to pick up orders (no delivery) and many must be regulars as they were greeted as much as friends. We loved this place during our recent stay in Rosenberg. While we prefer Sichuan the Hunan dishes were great. The spring rolls were superb and the veggie dumplings were the best we have ever eaten. We tried 8 Treasure Chicken, Jalapeño Chicken, Spicy green beans and chicken, Dandan noodles, veggie dumplings and spring rolls during the several visits we made. Love this place. Don't let the drab strip center setting fool you. The food here is excellent. The owner is very friendly and determined to make sure you have a great meal. Ask her and she will tell you: everything here is made from scratch on the premises, including the egg rolls. I have lived in the area for 8 years and never knew this restaurant was even here. I was looking for places on line and saw the reviews written about this place. I decided to try it and I must admit it is some of the best Chinese food I have ever had! Delicious, fresh, and plentiful-you definitely get your moneys worth. Ice tea is included with your lunch. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the owner even came over to check on me. I have found my place to eat Chinese-there is no place better. Avoid this place. Seriously. This used to be the go to spot in Rosenberg for good Chinese. They had quality food at a decent price....then the prices started going up...ok to be expected somewhat. Then they kept going up and the quality of the food went down. My GF even told me she once found a roach in her food when she went with her mom. I don't doubt her, but I was seriously surprised to hear that. I just don't understand how it got to that point. I mean we would come here monthly for 3 years and never had a problem...then you start noticing things and the food isn't as good. I'd say the downward slope started in 2013 or so. read more

I started eating here when I worked at the local hospital in the '90s. I did not eat Chinese food often - just didn't have a taste for it. Well, Hunan Garden changed that! I started out safe and tried their shrimp fried rice. Yum! Became my go to meal until I took my husband there (also not a Chinese food fan) and he fell in love with the General Tsos chicken. We have progressed to try most of their meals. My current favorite is the Crispy Szechuan Beef, and my husband prefers the Sesame Chicken. We also love their Won Ton Soup and Eggrolls. Wow. I would have never ventured out to Rosenberg for Chinese food (I mean, there are plenty of good Chinese restaurants around, right?), but a good friend assured me that it was worth the drive. Boy, was that an understatement! Hunan Garden is not just your traditional Chinese fare. Owner, Elaine, has created an incredibly versatile menu that can only be described as gourmet Chinese food. We had shrimp lettuce wraps as one of our appetizers. They chop up large shrimp (so lots of texture -- not mushy from using small shrimp) and vegetables and the combination is divine. Other members of our party wanted crab puff (the largest crab puff I've ever had -- full of filling) and ribs. They were both very tasty. Our entrees were Tropical Shrimp -- large, lightly breaded shrimp fried to perfection and served in a light sauce over fresh tropical fruit; Spinach Beef -- stir-fried beef in a light brown sauce served over freshly sautéed organic baby spinach; and Dan Dan noodles. The Tropical Shrimp was a great, light entree for summer. The Spinach Beef (also available with shrimp or chicken) was definitely my favorite. We saw a plate of Walnut Shrimp on the way to another table -- it looked fabulous. Prices are very reasonable and portions are plentiful. Service was excellent. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. The owner came by several times to make sure we were pleased with our choices. We're already planning our next visit. So many wonderful dishes still left to try! read more

Beyond bad. My son was visiting for the holidays and after all the reviews I read I thought this would be a good choice but it really wasn't. The flavor was terrible and it seemed like a lot of sugar was added to maybe mask that like with the orange chicken and general tso's. Plus the fried rice was not in fact a fried rice but a steamed rice tossed in soy. We both gave up and discarded our entrees and will be looking for another option. Very disappointed. read more

It's true. This place is actually really good. I mean I know Chinese food begins tasting the same after while and the standards can fail miserably after eating sub-par Chinese food constantly but this was a fresh reminder of how it should taste like and for me to keep looking for superior quality. Not only was the reviews right but the people were really nice. I spoke with the lady late at night as I came into pick my food up and she was very pleasant and very nice. Reminded me of one of my aunts... yup like a family aura that resonated from her hospitality. I can't recall exactly what I ordered but I do know that the Chinese Fried Rice was fresh and tasty. Finished it all the next day. Huge portions. The Chicken Stir-Fry was also great. Mind you I came in at just about closing the food still tasted great and unrushed in cooking. I'd recommend this place to friends and family and next time after Sunday Church I'll bring my family to dine in here because the place looks inviting as well (even though slightly dated). read more

First came on Wednesday night last week and again Saturday. Food was really delicious. We ordered kung pao chicken, dan dan noodles, orange chicken and happy family. The vegetables and meat were fresh and cooked really well. I don't like green bell peppers so I asked it be replaced with jalapeños. They had no problems with my request. The kung pao chicken was spicy, had lots of peanuts and the chicken to veggies ratio was perfect. The sauce was really good enough to be just right. My daughter ordered the orange chicken and she kept saying it does taste like orange chicken versus other places. Nice cubes of white meat chicken, lightly fried and with a golden coating of orange sauce. Not goopy sauce that makes the chicken into candy. The dan dan noodles comes with a ground chicken sauce that really tasty - in fact, we prefer it to lo mein. The noodles are soft but not mushy and when it first comes out you think oh oh the noodles are all clumpy but it's not. You just mix the very meaty sauce and you have an awesome dish of super tasty noodles. read more
