Service was outstanding- prompt, friendly and interactive The soup was dry flavorful but good gosh it was super salty - the sodium almost took over the entire dish - I was thinking about adding some soy sauce so I could taste something besides the salt in the soup but given how high in sodium most soy is, I decided to pass. The orange chicken was a mixed bag - most of it was just the right amount of sauce and breading but there were a few pieces that were over breaded and the sauce was borderline overcooked- but as I said it was only a couple of pieces. I had a late weekday lunch with a friend at Hunan Lion. The restaurant is located in a strip shopping center along the southbound I35 service road. There's ample nearby parking. The entry area and interior of the restaurant are clean and colorfully decorated. We were seated immediately and beverage orders were taken and delivered promptly. We asked for extra time to look over the menu before ordering. There is a wide assortment, even on the lunch menu. Prices are very reasonable (less than $15) given the quality and amount of food. Included in lunch are choice of soup (corn, hot and sour, egg drop, and wonton), egg roll, fried or steamed rice, and the main course. My friend and I both chose wonton soup and shrimp entrées. The soup was rather salty. The entrées we ordered were very good, with my friend's Kung Pao shrimp on the spicy side. There was no skimping on the amount of shrimp! Our waitperson regularly checked in and refilled our water glasses. There's no doubt that we will return the next time we want Chinese food. read more

I can finally understand the hype about this place, every time I come is usually packed so for my little one, I have opted to do take out instead so I order in advance and we just eat at home. Every time the food has been hot, fresh and delicious. I wan to keep trying every dish, so far any low mein is amazing, fried rice too. Any protein with vegetables is a good option too. Wife and I are always on the lookout for a good Chinese restaurant. This week we tried Hunan Lyon. Very attractive interior well above the standard Chinese restaurant. We were promptly seated and given a menu. We selected the two of the lunch specials for $13 each. I ordered pepper steak while the wife ordered chicken with snow peas. Wife had the corn egg soup, which was delicious and very hot. I opted for the wonton soup which arrived cold. I asked them to exchange it for the corn egg soup which they did. The egg rolls were piping hot and delicious. My prepper steak was not as tender as other Chinese restaurants but good. Wife enjoyed her chicken with snow peas. Very cozy though I do think I'm going to hold out for a booth next time. The pollen has been doing a number on me so I stuck with the chicken and vegetable soup - it's definitely going on my winter soup list. And steamed dumplings. I cannot pass up steamed dumplings. Stopped by here to get some lunch before going to Inner Space Cavern with my family. We arrived around 11:15 AM and there were already a handful of tables seated. Service: Our waitress was kind and came by often despite having several other tables flocking in around the same time. Food: We ordered the fried gyozas, basil beef, and sweet and sour chicken. Overall, the food was okay! I liked the basil beef more than the sweet and sour chicken. The sweet and sour chicken were fried separately and wasn't coated with the sweet and sour sauce (that came separately in a bowl). I didn't care for the dish at all. This is my mom's favorite Chinese food in the area. I love it too. Some of our favorite dishes are beef and snow peas and shrimp and snow peas. Last time I went my mom recommend I try Thai Basil beef because I love basil. It is listed as spicy on the menu, which I don't do well with. I asked the waitress if it could be made not spicy and she said they could. Let's just say that I have now added thai Basil beef to my favorites list. Highly recommend. read more

Marie was very friendly and always taking requests with a smile. Even though she was the only one serving the entire section, she was patient and ensuring by checking frequently if we needed anything . Food is great and portion sizes are huge. Szechuan meal was not at all spicy(unexpectedly), but all the items were delicious. Service time was quick for the appetizers but meal itself took more than 20 mins to arrive. This place is just one business out of many businesses in this large strip center. We decided to come here because they have a really great affordable lunch special. It doesn't say so on the menu, but they do offer some mediocre wine choices along with a few bottled beer selections. The wine is called Canyon Ridge which is along the same line as Sutter Home. Shiner and Tsing Tao beer is as good as it gets. In other words, their alcohol permit is definitely under utilized here, thus steering us to water. However, We really came for the food. We began with a couple of bowls of their soup, which is the start of their lunch special. The main course comes with an eggroll and the portions are reasonable in size. Be sure to request some sweet-and-sour sauce and spicy mustard. This was your typical American style Chinese food, but it was exceptional for the style. The Service was very friendly and attentive. The beef, chicken and shrimp were cooked well in the fried rice but it was extremely salty. The eggrolls were soggy. It was as if they were rolled in a corn meal before frying. Cute restaurant in a strip mall, quick service and the food was surprisingly good! The hot and sour soup had a little too much black pepper for me but nevertheless I ate it all. I modified my kung pao chicken to no peanuts and only celery and it was a huge portion and delicious! Most places now seem to sugar dump but this sauce was very good and full of flavor. We finally found really good Chinese food!! Since moving here from NYC, we've struggled to find a good spot, and this is it! We absolutely loved the attentiveness and friendliness, of the staff. They provided excellent service from start to end. Was even welcomed personally by one of veterans of this restaurant of over 30+ years. The environment and design of the restaurant was very pleasant and warm, very welcoming and clean. The food was cooked fresh and was very tasty. We ordered Sesame chicken, shrimp in lobster sauce, and chicken with broccoli and a side of large fried rice, and two chicken egg rolls. The chicken egg rolls were a delight and make a great appetizer to get you ready for your entree. They served the egg rolls with their sweet and sour sauce, which was alright, but I would've preferred to pair the egg rolls with duck sauce. The sesame chicken was rich in flavor and quality(our whole table loved it!) the shrimp in lobster sauce was not very saucy, but the flavor was on point, and they are not cheap with the shrimp. It was a good portion. Their chicken with broccoli was good, but not better than their sesame chicken. We still took it to go and will definitely have it for lunch tomorrow. This place left a wonderful impression on our family. Can't wait to return. It was my turn to pick a spot for dinner, and my wife didn't want to travel too far, but I had faith in this place, and thankfully, it scored me a few extra points with the wife. Decided to try this place for lunch after seeing so many neighbors comment with excitement about it reopening. We were seated right away and the service was friendly. We ordered the fried dumplings, szechuan tofu, Thai basil lunch special, beef delight lunch special and plain lo mein noodles. They were happy to accommodate our request of no mushrooms due to food allergy. Unlike many Chinese restaurants, the food did not come out in five minutes. It was closer to 15-20 minutes and it was super hot and fresh. The veggies were nice and crunchy, making me think that they were never frozen. All of the flavors were incredible and the lunch specials were a particularly good value being served with soup, an egg roll, and steamed or fried rice. We liked Hunan Lion! My SH and I each had one of the lunch specials, and found them to be very tasty, with generous portions. While the menu generally reflects the same, traditional dishes that you find in most Chinese restaurants, there were a few that were out of the ordinary, and we tried those in lieu of our standard orders. Good decision, and well worthwhile. Still, we're looking forward to going back to try some of our "normal" favorites. The service was fast and friendly despite a pretty busy weekday lunch crowd. I noticed that some of the reviews said that they waited 20-30 minutes for their food. It definitely wasn't the case for us.
