From a distance, I thought I was going to visit a restaurant called the human ranch. I wonder if they can change the lettering on the sign! The food is exquisite, with a tantalizing touch of particular spices and delicately sliced onions that make the Hunan dishes Very popular. The thing about Chinese food, is there are 1.2 billion restaurants in the western hemisphere. So what makes the Hunan ranch different? First off, I have to say from experience, the water was outstanding. I don't know what the pH level is of that water, or exactly whether it's two parts hydrogen, and one part oxygen, one part hydrogen, and parts oxygen. But, whatever the organic chemical combination is that makes their water so pure and delicious, as well as thirst quenching, they need to market it. I felt 10 years younger by drinking from the Hunan Ranch fountain of youth water fountain. The wonton soup was particularly delicious, probably because the wontons were swimming in that wonderfully oxidized water that they use for broth. I highly recommend the Hunan beef, or the shrimp fried rice, as the portions are large and the flavor bountiful with a bouquet of melodic, spices, and herbs. The lo mein ought to be called the high main because it is so tasty. In fact, I believe that the aroma that you smell outside, the restaurant is partially coming from the skillet that makes their lo mein. The glasses that hold the water with the ice cubes dancing ever so carefully and de clear drinkable liquid, are well designed and clean. You don't have to order the ice cubes or the water to get water at this place. The prices are good I would say even great, but that's because my friend bought me lunch. Seriously, the service is outstanding, and you will leave with a belly full of wonderful oriental calories. If you can remember, order some of that water to go so that you can share it with members of your family that did not join you for a Sunday afternoon lunch. Hail to the chef who made a creative menu and turned Hunan Ranch into something wonderfully separate from the 1.2 billion other Chinese places that exist in North America. read more

Came here while visiting Austin. There is free parking , no wait time and service was friendly and prompt. Wife enjoyed the hot and sour soup but the best was the chicken corn soup it was so delicious. We shared a fried egg roll same as others restaurants. Wife had the sesame chicken and got it spicy which is was. The chicken was tender and the fish was delicious. I tried the Mongolian beef, meat was very tender strips with onions and bell peppers which were fresh and crisp and not overly cooked. It was spicy as I kept drinking water lol but addictive. We went on Christmas Day and they were completely slammed! Workers were almost running trying to get everyone's orders, drinks, seated etc. The food was slow to come out but we didn't mind because obviously this was a different situation due to it being a day when most places are closed. The Happy Family plate was really good and the fried rice was tender and flavored well. My husband ordered the Kung Pao chicken it has a lot of peanuts on it next time we will ask for no nuts. Rangoons are a little more on the sweeter side and the egg rolls were really good. I don't recommend the sweet tea it was just like sugar water there was hardly any actual tea in it. Service here is excellent, i like that you can order online and pay at the counter that's something most places don't endorse which is nice, it makes me feel as though i get the experience of service prior to tipping, which i would never not tip these workers they're amazing! Their website is informative of pick up times when they're busy which is excellent, and the food is AMAZING. I love asian food and this place never disappoints, when i first ordered from here i was surprised by the prices but then i got the portions and oh lord they're massive, one order can feed two people for sure and that's more than i can ask for from this place. We order the large bowl which is enough for 4-5 servings. Full body soap with the perfect flavor and pieces of tofu. Tonight we also got the Sesame Tofu and the Eggplant. I asked for No MSG due to an allergy however, I found the sauces to be completely bland. I found my beef dishes, specifically the meat a bit on the slimy side. We wanted a quick lunch so we worked together to offer the lunch specials with just a few choices, and all our guests enjoyed theirs. Decided to give it a try since our favorite spot had closed their seating area during Covid and really wanted to sit down and enjoy our meal. The service was very good, friendly hostess and waiter. We ordered the steamed dumpling appetizer with the assumption that the main dishes may take a little longer. The main dishes actually ended up coming out first which was strange but a nice surprise, dumplings came out shortly after. Overall food was good, service was great, place looked ok but if your looking for a quick meal it's a good spot to stop by. Today, our family order beef Mongolian Mongolian beef, crab Rangoons, egg rolls, orange chicken, pot stickers, and cashew shrimp. We had it delivered. Quick, hot, and easy! All were pretty amazing, except for the potstickers, that my daughter (the potsticker expert) said were a little mushy. Personally, I like the eggrolls with some hot mustard sauce. I ordered Mo Koo Gai Pan and Hunan Shrimp requested "NO SALT and NO SOY SAUCE". She said, "Are you sure?" Yes, I replied "Its for my mom whom is health challenged with high blood pressure (can't take salt)". The food was delicious. The waiter/owner requested chef to custom cook on my order just skip the soy and salt. Oh boy, this is delicious, says my mom. I just add the sea salt from Costco on the food (for myself) and said, "yes it is very tasty". I even made a fry rice out of the left overs by just adding eggs. I am extremely picky about my Chinese food and Hunan ranch has been consistently amazing. The service and staff are wonderful and prompt, my water never got below half of a glass. The food was very quick to come out and was fresh and hot when we received it. My personal favorites are the wonton soup and crab ragoons. Very large portions, great flavor (except for the soup). Shrimp were cooked to perfection- not over cooked. This is a great Chinese food option for the North Austin/Avery Ranch area. Wow, this place is incredible! I have been going here for years now and it never fails to impress. The food here never gets old no matter how much I eat here. The quality and taste of the food is amazing! I have invited friends over several times and all of them always tell me how much they love it, and they tell me they recommend it to all their friends. The waiters here are skilled, fast, efficient, and most importantly very kind. The restaurant itself is also very calming and is a nice environment for a date or just to hang out with family or friends. Lastly, they have a large variety of foods on their menu, which is very rare for me since I am a vegan and don't eat much while out at restaurants since they usually don't have and vegan food.
