I have been coming here for three years whenever I'm in Minneapolis, and it remains one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. They have a very popular lunch buffet, but I always prefer to order off the menu. My long-time favorite dish has been the whole, shell-on pepper salt baked shrimp, which are excellent. However, two days ago I tried the sole fillet with salt and pepper, and it was also outstanding. The fillet was broken into bite-sized pieces, coated with a light salty batter and then cooked, and it was amazing ! It is served with white rice (as are the shrimp), and this dish may be my new #1 choice for lunch. We were at the restraunt at about 8pm. I will never go there for the buffet again. They did keep replenishing, service was quick and friendly, but the buffet was edible that is all. Everything was super soft or gummy, their fried chicken was just plain awful. The oriental noodles had a slightly strange citrus flavor. We were not happy at all. I've only been there for the lunch buffet. Let me tell you it is the best $8 I've spent in my life. The food quality and flavor is what you would expect from a sit-down restaurant. I'm not sure how this place got 4 stars. I ordered the fried dumplings and beef chow fun. It smelled delicious. The noodles were good. The beef.... it was very tough and dry. Terrible. The dumplings looked good but... tasted awful. The pork was extremely dry. I thought it was a chunk of tough round steak. I would definitely take a pass on this place. read more

This restaurant may look like a hole in a stripmall, but it's the most authentic Chinese food I've had in the Midwest. The staff was indeed friendly and the food was not too greasy. The egg drop soup was done well, and the server brought us great tea to accompany the meal. The decor was nice but not outstanding. My husband and I now frequent Hunan on a regular basis. Though the buffet isn't huge, it has absolutely fantastic dishes! Each one is outstanding and actually 'sits' well. I find that to be one aspect that's difficult for most buffets, the food can often get soggy and disgusting after sitting in the bottom of a tray for hours on end. But Hunan has somehow found the perfect buffet recipes! The food has never been soggy or disgusting at all. We're continuously pleased and excited about returning. Some of the best Chinese food I have had. Chinese buffets are usually the same and not the best. This is Chinese food that happens to be served buffet style. They do have menu as well though. If you go for lunch, you better get there at 11:00. The place fills up quick. read more

Just arrived in Minnesota from the SF Bay Area. We're used to great Chinese food, and have now found our new go-to place! We ordered the Kung Pao Chicken, which was plenty spicy and delicious. Also, we ordered Singapore Style Mai Fun. I like that they asked how spicy we would like it. We ordered medium and it was perfect for our taste. There was plenty of shrimp, BBQ pork and chicken in it too. Recommend for those looking for other than Cantonese. read more

It was our first visit to Hunan, and we were very impressed. We had Mandarin Beef, which you can order how spicy or mild you'd like. The beef was tender & plentiful, and veggies were perfect. The chicken fried rice we ordered, was the best we ever had! The egg rolls were also great, and served with really delicious sauces. Even the pot of tea, served with little cups was delicious. Very good Chinese Buffet. You will find all the classics you expect at this type of buffet. The meat and vegetable ingredients can stand on their own without the necessity to drown them in thick sauces. Chinese places are so hit and miss in the Twin Cities, this is one of the better ones. Especially the lunch buffet, which I don't think can be beat. Best Chinese buffet we've found since moving back to Minnesota from San Francisco. The trays on the buffet table are of smaller size and they keep the dishes fresh and hot. Good selection of beef, shrimp, pork and a great lamb dish. Price is reasonable, staff is very attentive and friendly, restaurant is warm and inviting. This is by far my favorite Resturant so far that I've seen. The waiters are personable and efficient. The atmosphere is very relaxed and causal. I adore their potstickers fried to perfection. At lunch and on weekend nights they have a delightful buffet service that is very good. I highly suggest you stop by sometime and have some good food. read more

Took my 5 year old to dinner and we wanted to try a new place. The buffet has a very good selection for the size of the restaurant. The kid gave the soups a big thumbs up. Been here for the Buffet which I give only two stars. It's filling but not worth the price and the food is not cooked well. Got takeout from here last night and it was the worst I have ever had. Ordered a quart of soup and what I got was more like a pint that they poured a bunch of broth into just to fill the container. my main dish was filled with shriveled pre frozen vegetables and the fried rice was black when I opened it. read more

Relatively large selection of items for a small restaurant in a lonely strip mall. I arrived 30 min before buffet ended so that could have affected the quality of the items. Hot and sour soup too sour. Like a lot of the water had evaporated. Sesame chicken too dry and chewy. Spicy chicken was meaty and moist so that was good. Mushroom chicken was a little bland. Please don't add more salt when I say something is bland. Saltier is different from more flavorful. Fried rice was too dry and chewy. Lo mein and rice noodles were decent. Sweet and sour chicken was crispy with meaty center, and they provide the standard sweet and sour sauce for it. Fried chicken wings were not great but decent. Chicken skewers were okay, not great. I wish they cut a smaller piece of chicken for it because I wanted to stop eating it when I wasn't impressed with my first bite. I like to put small amounts of everything on my plate at a buffet and get more if I like something. Stir fry string beans was wilted but still crunchy if you picked the ones off the top. For my second and final round of food I got more lo mein, rice noodles, string beans, and spicy chicken. The lunch staff was nice and checked on me once, which is all I felt was needed. Background music alternated between Cantopop and light rock/country/pop. Overall this place is your typical buffet. However you feel about your average buffet you can expect similar here. I thought it would be important to add this clarification. This place has a lot of good ratings. I was not as enthusiastic as others, but I don't want to lead the reader into thinking they are worse than your average buffet in town. read more
