Ordered takeout and none of the food was very good. The hot & sour soup was black (not exaggerating) and was very bland. Took one bite and tossed the rest. The Chinese chicken salad was a ridiculously small portion and extremely soggy. The honey walnut shrimp was barely warm and needed more sauce. Stopped in recently for lunch because we had heard that new owners had taken over the old Hunan. The place looks exactly the same on the inside so no face lift or update on the interior, and it is in dire need of it. Same menu, same dated booths, tables and chairs. The lunch specials are all around $7-$8 bucks are a very generous portion for the price. My hunan chicken was okay but nothing special about it. Actually had to add salt as it was bland. Fresh veggies of brocolli, carrots, mushrooms and onions with the hunan sauce however it was not spicy at all. The hot and sour soup was good however its a tiny bowl with the special would have gladly had more. Fried rice was again okay but nothing out of the ordinary. I opted for the egg roll with my lunch and once more it was good but not great, actually overcooked. A short selection of bottled beers, and the Tsing Tao that I had was a very good compliment to my lunch. This is an okay hunan style restaurant - not sure if its any better? Absolutely love this place was our go to family spot. It's been really unfortunate every time we go in now it's a 45 min wait with the whole restaurant empty cause they take in to many DoorDash. You would think by now they would either take a cap of the amount of DoorDash to be considerate of their incoming costumers or get more employees to handle the flow of people coming in. It's almost like they should become a DoorDash only establishment. read more

I really hate writing negative reviews when a place seems to be trying hard... but I hate spending money on really disappointing food too. So: we get there for lunch when they open at 11 AM. It's freezing inside. The menus look exactly the same as when it was owned by someone else. Nothing had changed. We order a pot of tea and the waitress - who was very nice - said the water was heating up and we'd have our tea soon. After about 10 minutes, a man came out and said they were out of tea - they'd had a rush on Valentine's Day (today is February 27) and hadn't gotten the new order in yet. He offered to bring me hot water and lemon, which I declined. This is where I point out that Hunan is literally two doors from an Asian Market, who have lots of tea. Anyway: You get hot and sour soup or chicken salad with the lunch specials. I got the soup, which was really quite good. A LOT of black pepper in it, but good. My soup arrived within about five minutes of ordering. My husband got the chicken salad, which was a small green salad with some bits of chicken and a sesame dressing. His salad arrived maybe 15 minutes after my soup. Maybe 10 minutes after that, we got our lunches. I had Szechuan tofu with fried rice; my husband had sweet and sour pork with steamed rice. We also ordered pan-fried noodles with vegetables. There was a condiment caddy with sweet and sour sauce and hot mustard for the egg rolls. I liked the Szechuan tofu which was in a black bean sauce, but there was one lonely hot pepper in there (and no vegetables) and it had no heat at all. The fried rice was inoffensive. The sweet and sour pork was balls of pork in a nearly-gummy batter and bland sauce. The steamed rice did not seem to be freshly cooked. The hot mustard was VERY runny with no heat and the sweet & sour sauce was gloppy - like it came out of a big jar. The vegetables on the noodles were good, but the noodles had burned spots and the dish was drowning in black bean sauce. I am giving two stars because it wasn't a complete disaster - I have had worse Chinese food - but neither would we come back here. read more

Anyone who gives a 1 star review must be a Karen or Karl . My family and I have been coming here since I was I was a child. By far our favorite Chinese restaurant overall in Humboldt. Recently under new management the food tastes even better! And new authentic Laotian options . The chow main and papaya salad here is my favorite from anywhere I've tried. All the food here was fresh and meat was tender. The service here was friendly and personable, family ambiance. read more

Took the family in today, normally we order take out, our waitress was amazing, super kid friendly, the food was delicious as always, they have a new menu item Boba, perfection, she offered the kids a sample no cost to us, it wasn't typical boba, it's popping boba with jelly's also, and the flavor was very nostalgic having grown up right next to a Asian market. 10/10 would and do always recommend them. The place is never to packed and kid friendly, great location in Henderson center. They also have a new online menu you can order from via QR code on the door or card at the front desk. read more

It's important to note that Hunan is under new management and has been receiving consistently high reviews since the change. They really should create a new Yelp page to boost their stars. While on an evening walk through the neighborhood with my wife the aromas hit us on the street and convinced us we should give this place a try since we're close and love every other restaurant in Henderson Center. Ordered the Veggie Curry it was super flavorful and different than the usual Thai and Cambodian curries I've had. The orange chicken that I ordered for the kids was a little disappointing as it was just rice and chicken and I expected some sort of veggies to come with but that could've been a mistake in ordering perhaps. I'll definitely come back for the curry though. read more

We tried this restaurant today and were very disappointed. It is dirty the crab cheese puffs had no crab meat that I could find when I opened them up and a hair on the plate and the other food we ordered was not good. We will not be going back and will be sticking with our usual spots. read more

I was shocked to see so many poor reviews of this place! We ordered in at Hunans for the first time yesterday and were pleasantly surprised. We went the basic Chinese food route and ordered chicken chow mein, pork fried rice, broccoli beef, walnut shrimp, orange chicken and a side of cream puffs. The rice and chow mein were our favorite dishes. So much flavor with actual chunks of meat! The spicy broccoli beef came in a delicious sauce which we used for other dishes. They also included two large containers of regular white rice. They have an impressive $10 lunch special and some dinner combos for families of different sizes $35-$95 for a LOT of food. Our host was so friendly and all smiles which is a rarity these days in food service. We used to be loyal to Chins but now we will be going to Hunan's every time. The staff are extremely friendly, and always help make us feel welcome I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, because they are a bit pricey. Having undergone a new ownership, since then this restaurant has completely redeemed themselves in my eyes. Today I ordered my usual, walnut shrimp and double face noodle, however there was a misunderstanding and the noodle dish was mistaken as Chow mein. When I called and informed it was the wrong dish they were happy to comp us our dish, and informed me it is listed in their menu as "pan fried noodles". When I picked up my order they were so polite, apologetic and friendly to the point that it has prompted me to write this review. I ordered on line and I get here 35 minutes after I ordered. They never sunnited my order so had to wait another 20 min. She comes out after 20 min and after 5 guests picked up there food after mine. She tells me they still have to cook another 20 min. I ordered over an hr ago on line. If they can't pay attention to on line ordered than they shouldn't have the option of on line. This is so ridiculous waiting over an hr for food and 5 peeps that ordered after me got there food. Like really. I have hungry seniors and likes at home like how is this okay and they don't even compensate me at all. We received the wonderful menu in the mail with great descriptions and pics of their food. We went curbside to order the appetizer sampler and an order of pork fried rice. The sampler was great, the rice was dark brown, seemed really old and had tiny, hard pieces of pork (I think) and some veggies, no taste. We usually don't do this but we threw it out after we tried it. Next time we ordered, it was for the Savory noodle soup which is supposed to contain chicken, shrimp, pork, vegetables, & noodles. What we got and didn't know until we got home was their regular won ton soup. It was pretty in the container but had no flavor at all and, since it wasn't the correct soup, it had no chicken, shrimp or pork or noodles. Service is always prompt and polite, I don't dine-in usually, but the restaurant is clean and peacefully quiet since takeout is more popular. All of the food is delicious. Maybe lunch would be better, but I'll never know. Had the rainbow shrimp, first time I'v ever seen it battered ,don't get me wrong, I love deep fried when it's cooked not runny batter inside. Wife had eggplant that was over cooked... between the two PERFECT. 1 large family group, 1 couple in the place yet we didn't see the waiter again. No how is it or do you need anything. I've tried other local places and have been less than impressed. It's a Sunday and I am working ALOT from home. I decided to get the Hunan Meal for 2 under the combo dinners. $30. I was given a MASSIVE amount of carefully packaged food. This is literally enough for 5 good sized adult meals, PLUS soup. After a few failed attempts at getting good Chinese food in this area, I found a winner. The food was steaming hot, fresh, crispy veggies, perfectly cooked meats, crispy fried foods. Everything you expect from quality Chinese food. This will definitely be my go to spot in Humboldt. read more

We were looking for a great Chinese food place in Eureka that is open on Sundays and we discovered Hunan and we loved it! We had a huge order and everything was delicious, fresh, and excellent quality. We had pork fried rice, chicken chow mien (amazing!), crab cheese puffs, hot & sour soup, sweet & sour pork, mushu pork, Chinese chicken salad, imperial shrimp....I can't remember what else. It was quite a sampling and everything was fantastic. The veggies were tender and crisp, the pan fried noodles were perfect, the rice was fluffy, the crab cheese puffs had lots of filling--it was just a great feast.
