We visited Kungfu Kitchen for a late lunch and found a restaurant that serves outstanding dim sum. The original location is in New York and received a Michelin star a couple of years ago. The xiao long bao (soup dumplings) are so good; but so was everything else. Prices are moderate, but well worth every penny. The setting is great, feels Asian but is quite comfortable for most Americans. The service was the only area that wasn't great. I'm giving them a pass because of the time of day we visited. The team was friendly and ready to help but had to be waved down when we needed things. Bottom line... we will return when we're in the area again! read more

When I heard about the hand made dumplings that are filled with soup I naturally was wondering how it's made! Well, I worked in a kitchen with many culinary chefs. They told me that they freeze the broth and wrap it with the noodle. I ordered the crispy pancake, and I also got a taro drink with boba. They texture of the dumpling was a bit thick for my liking. The service was great and quick as well. The pancake was fantastic. I really enjoyed the crispy aspect and savory notes. The dip was also good. Shout out to Chris W for this amazing recommendation. We've come to Orlando often but usually it's to go to Disney. This place is very close to Disney, but is not on Disney property so even though Chris has recommended this place for a year, we've never taken the time to go. Also, the idea of long wait with kids was never that appealing to me. This time we had a kid free weekend because we were going to an Orlando Magic game so I made a point for us to try this restaurant. At 1 PM on a Saturday there was no wait, so I think the huge crowds have died down. Literally everything we tried was amazing. If I had to rank it, I'd start with the stirfried Ramen duck as my favorite. The Ramen is so much better than what you find elsewhere, the noodles were absolutely delicious. The duck was moist and fatty. I also loved the soup dumplings with chicken. The chocolate one is intriguing, but the table next to us tried to order it and they were out. So if I have the opportunity in the future to try it I will. The scallion pancakes with beef was phenomenal. The beef puts it over the edge. I actually loved the wood ear mushrooms. They were a light and refreshing, I wish I had someone to share it with, but since my husband wouldn't eat it, I actually ate the whole dish. The steamed chicken dumplings were also delicious, but if I had to give up one dish, that would be it. Basically you want to come here with a large group so you can eat everything. The spicy beef soup with the knife cut noodles would have been outstanding had it been warmer as when I get soup I expect it to be piping hot not luke warm and leaving more to be desired the soup as whole was good the flavor was there the noodles were yummy and it was pretty good for the most part. Our shrimp and beef noodles were also warm they seem as though they were sitting for a bit before we got them and this was on a slower day so I don't know what was up with that but had they been hot they would have been outstanding as it had nice peanut sauce flavor and we're just yummy! Last night my family and I went to Kung Fu Kitchen to celebrate my son's 15th birthday. We were excited to try it, but the experience was a bit of a mixed bag. After checking in at their kiosk, we ended up waiting over 45 minutes for a table. The restaurant itself is very small, which definitely contributes to the long wait times. There were also two large parties taking up most of the seating. Once seated, the tables are extremely close together--you really feel like you're sitting right on top of the people next to you, which made it a little uncomfortable. That said, the food is really good. This location has a nice assortment of dumplings and quick bites. We ordered the scallion pancakes with beef, which came with BBQ sauce and were honestly delicious. We also had pork bao buns and a chicken noodle bowl, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful. Service was just okay--nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. Our waiter never came back to check on us or ask if we wanted refills. We also ordered dessert, but after we finished eating we were told the waiter never put the order in, so we had to wait another 15 minutes. Unfortunately, that kind of took the fun out of ending the night with dessert for a birthday celebration. The bathroom was somewhat clean, but the trash was overflowing, which made it feel like staff wasn't paying close attention to detail. Overall, Kung Fu Kitchen is a good option if you're looking to try something different and enjoy solid food. However, there are plenty of other great spots in the area where you don't have to wait nearly as long to sit down for dinner. My favorite place this year. I gave them a try once and then visited 3 weekends in a row from there. The restaurant is cleanly, the whoever happens to be hosting is always helpful and the servers are kind, conversational, and helpful. I've tried quite a few items from the menu and I haven't had an issue with any of them. The soup dumplings - fire, the steamed dumplings - fire, the hand cut noodle stir fry - fire. I've had the scallion pancakes with and without the beef - fire. Radi and Marco are awesome guys and add to the experience. I will add - I typically visit earlier in the day and have never had a problem with wait. Usually seated immediately. I did visit on a Saturday evening though and there was a bit of a wait, but nothing horrible. I've visited the other location and while the food and menu were good too, it wasn't quite the same. Came to KungFu Kitchen with a friend after an event nearby, and I'm so glad we did. We started by splitting the chicken dumplings, and they were absolutely amazing. You can really tell they're handmade, from the texture to the flavor, and the dumpling sauce paired perfectly with them. This time, we got the pork soup dumplings, bok choi and mushroom buns, scallion pancake, crystal shrimp dumplings, Peking duck buns, and steamed shrimp and pork dumplings. As always, the scallion pancakes were excellent. I think the crystal dumplings were my favorite thing. The soup dumplings definitely held up and were as good as I remember. I don't know that I'd get the duck buns again since they were quite sweet. I love this place and I think I'll always come back. One thing, I'd love a slightly larger beer selection. Last nignt we came for my son's birthday dinner since he has been on a dumplings and buns kick lately. We had only been once before, but that was when they first opened. Going in, we knew there would be a wait being that Saturday nights are busy. Check-in for the waitlist is done on a kiosk and we waited about 45 minutes for our table. We were seated in between a table of 4 and table of 2. Tables are pretty close to eachother, so you can hear lots of conversation. We placed our order once our server came and I let him know that the taro puffs we wanted last. He said he would put that order in later. The chicken ramen noodles and scallion beef pancakes came out first and were eaten pretty quickly. Both dishes were very flavorful and the beef in the scallion pancakes was cooked just right. We waited an additional 10 minutes before our steamed pork dumplings and pan fried pork buns came out. They were really hot when they came out, so hot that my husband had dropped one on the floor. We let our server know just so he was aware it was under the table but nothing was done about it. It was also at that time I asked for more water since he never came back to check on us once our food came out. Once we finished eating, we waited a while again before one of the other servers stopped by to see if we were ready for the check. I let her know we were waiting on some taro puffs which apparently our server forgot about. I appreciate her checking in on us as it seems we were forgotten. It was just frustrating having to wait each time. Be prepared to wait on weekends. There are so many options here at Kungfu Kitchen, all delicious and fun in their own ways if you're a foodie you'll want to just try one of everything on the menu. Alas, we definitely did over order even for a group of 3. Couldn't be helped to a point- the steamed dumpling buns were probably my favorite due to the whole experience of eating them a certain way. Make sure you have your dumpling spoon, a bit of soy sauce on it, poke a whole in the dumpling them slowly slurp/ eat the thing. Salty and tangy and delicious. They have some amazing dessert puffs too that cannot be missed out on. The pumpkin ones were decent but the taro ones- oh man, we almost ordered another set to go because they were so dreamy. They look so unamusing from the outside, just brown bread with some seeds on top, but inside they are doughy and soft and sweet and melt in your mouth. We stopped at Kungfu kitchen on a Monday evening on a whim and finding it by driving through the plaza. I'm glad we took a chance. It was my favorite dinner while visiting Orlando. There was a little bit of a wait (10 minutes) but it was well worth it. Servers were friendly and helped us pick out dishes. The place seemed pretty casual, but very nice inside. I ended up with the vegetable noodles and chicken soup dumplings. The flavor and the hand pulled noodles made the whole dish a perfect pairing in my book. We waited a long time before anyone sat us down. There were clearly not enough wait staff. There were more wait staff later on, but I felt like they were all running in circles without direction. They have other stuff on the menu, but the hand-cut noodles and the soup dumplings are the star of the menu. We've also tried the noodle soup with hand-cut noodles with duck and a few other dishes, but we found that the duck we got that day was a bit too bony. The broth was super flavorful, but I prefer the stir-fry noodles. Be sure to ask for the chili oil (but be careful because it packs a kick). If you come a little before 6p, there's usually not a wait, but be prepared to wait a bit if you come around peak dinner hours. Service is always fantastic and the servers here are fast and friendly. Din Tai Fung would be Michael Jackson--the undisputed legend. The precision, consistency, and refinement are world-class, and every bite feels like it was rehearsed a thousand times before hitting the stage. Kung Fu Kitchen sits comfortably in the Justin Timberlake tier. It may not redefine the genre the way Din Tai Fung does, but it delivers confident, well-executed performances across the board. The soup dumplings are flavorful, the appetizers are well executed, and the menu shows skill rather than gimmicks (try the knife cut noodles). You can tell this place knows what it's doing, even if it's not aiming for absolute perfection. It's reliable, polished, and very enjoyable--especially when Din Tai Fung feels like overkill or isn't available. At the lower end, Ugly Dumpling is more like Nick Jonas--fun, accessible, and fine for a casual craving, but lacking the depth, technique, and memorability of the others. It was packed and there were several people waiting for a table but we got sat right away (2 person party). Since this is located in a strip mall style area there is a huge parking lot.
