My family also had the grilled cheese(with bacon!!!) and the dessert was so yummy. They had a huckleberry creme brulee. It was sublime. And the strawberry rhubarb pie was huge and so delicious. Had the strawberry fields salad small size and BOY was it huge??? It was so delicious and filling I couldn't finish it all. Also had the soup of the day which was the broccoli asparagus and cheddar soup, it had a super smoky and delicious flavor, was piping hot. The inside was quiet and cozy, like being in a cabin, it was beautiful to see the foggy forest in the back. We were traveling and in need of a lunch stop. There is not a lot in the area so Hungry Bear won by default. We were very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. We are a party of 4 and everyone raved about their food. I got the french dip. It was real roast beef and it was delicious. My youngest son got the pizza burger, which was huge. My older son got the Italian sandwich. He loved it. My husband ordered a pizza, also a winner according to him. I didn't try anyone else's food so I have to take their word for it. Power went out shortly after we ordered and got our drinks. Oh well haha. The bad part was our server. She couldn't answer a question about an item on the menu ( maybe go ask the owner who was there or the cook ????? ) She never came over ( or the owner ) to tell us anything about status of order. They were still cooking other orders using propane. After 10 minutes we asked. Her response was well we lost power.so I said yes I realize that, but is there any part of our order that we will get? She says I don't know. so then I asked Can you please go check with somebody ? then she came back and said well we can do the sandwiches but we can't do the other things. Can't judge the food obviously but at least she could have not charged us for drinks, offered a salad instead? We were basically ignored. All attention was on the bar side which was packed. I have gone to the Hungry Bear many times. Last Saturday night was the best service we have ever had. It seems they have hired two women and they were doing a great job! Don't go there on the weekend, 1.5 hrs to get food. First off all the ma'trede was defensive, like he had been getting shit all night about the poor service and food quality. He never smiled, etc. We should have left at that point. 2 of us mistakenly got their pizza, it was like eating a frozen pizza with extra cheese add. We ordered thin crust and got thick crust. Told the waitress, and she blew it off, apologizing. Eating 3 pieces would have been equivalent to eating a golf loaf of bread. I should have insisted on a thin crust pizza when i saw this huge slab of bread with cheese and sauce., but I bet they didn't really have it. It was a bar pizza, prefabricated crust made somewhere else. Before ordering I asked the waiter if the pizza was good. She said yes. I believed her, dang it should have got the BLt. I'm sure the wait staff had to be ready to quit, what a nightmare to wait on customers who have been waiting a hour and a half to eat. At least what they could have done was buy our soft drinks, or my grandsons vanilla ice cream. read more

We left glacier national area because of whitewater rafting and needed to find a place to eat (that was still open) on the way to Billings, Montana. This was the only place open but also the only place that my family and I would have been happy with. The service is slightly slow but it makes sense due to short staffing and the connected bar on the left of the establishment. However, the food and the friendliness of our server were both great (especially at the lateness of our visit; maybe an hour before they closed and we left right when they closed their restaurant). My parents ate a single order of the large tacos with their serving of tortilla chips and salsa and could barely finish their food. They bought the tacos with BBQ pork and it was cooked perfectly; no dryness, no pink, and had a lot of flavor. I got the Western Burger, which has a 1/4 ounce patty, and it really stuffed me; I could not finish their fries. The jalapeño on it didn't leave me burnt out and left a sweet heat that was very enjoyable. 10/10; we will come back through here when going on road trips or pass through there at all. This is a super long review... but that's just cause I am buzzed; nursing gas stop coffee, at 12:30 in the morning. BY THE WAY, I saw some reviews complaining about them not serving steak anymore but, at least right now, they serve steak dinners on Fridays and Saturday (starting maybe around 5:30). read more

Service was a bit slow at high noon on a Thursday, but then all restaurants are seeking more help these days. My husband I shared a small spinach salad and a meatball sub. Piss poor service. Yes you are short staffed but, do not serve people that walk in after other patrons and then give those people drinks and take their order nearly immediately. Very disappointing. The sign on the door acknowledged the lack of employees. Just present your situation correctly. If you cannot keep up, don't let people continue to sit down. The management of employees and processes was poor and the one waitress we talked to was rude and she insisted that she had not taken the order of the table behind us that arrived 20 minutes after us. We sat for 30 minutes and got a water and never once had anyone come to the table. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. It had a ton of flavor and wasn't drowning in mayo!! So good. Potato salad is a hard one to get right and they nailed it... pretty much wish we skipped fries and got more of that bc it was really amazing!! We sat in the bar area next to the cozy fire with an amazing view of the mountains! Rick and Deb took the time to talk to us about their menu and upcoming events/entertainment. I am a local resident in Condon and visit this establishment at least 2-3 month. There are several negative reviews here but am not sure why. The owners of the Hungry Bear (It's really the HB Grille) have worked very hard to provide an updated décor, high food quality and service. Granted, there have been issues finding people to work, but they have done the very best they can during the very high traffic tourist months, being understaffed and overworked. The food quality has increased since they took over, as they added and upgraded the menu. For an eating establishment out in the middle of nowhere, I'd say it's pretty dang awesome. If you talk to Rick and Deb you will get the feeling that they do really care about their customers and the business. If you ever make it here, try the pizza, wings, any one of the delicious salads and/or sandwiches. They have the best prime rib I've ever tasted. This place is wonderful. We sat outside on a beautiful day and met one of the owners, Deb. She was so courteous and helpful with suggestions. We had the spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer which was a perfect size- not too big not too small-, the huckleberry blu burger- a surprising choice that was absolutely delicious- and their other bbq burger that I can't remember the name of but was really good. We also ended up trying some wings and their dry rub on the wings is amazing. I thought I only liked sauced up wings, but the flavor was amazing and they were perfectly crispy. An awesome place in the middle of nowhere! We stumbled on this place our of desperation during the long drive between Kalispell and Great Falls, and it was definitely a lifesaver. We both had awesome steaks, salads with amazing homemade garlic toast croutons, and pie. The service was great, and you can't beat the view. Our table had a view of the forest outside and we watched young deer grazing right outside our window! On top of all this, you've got to love the fact that you can order a pizza, get an order of rocky mountain oysters (which we weren't ballsy enough to order), and get a great fillet mignon all from the same place in middle of the forest. read more

Four dudes, one lady, and five servings of tiny-highway-in-MT breakfast inside a wood-paneled, deer-mount-studded lodge with 1980s conference table seating. Atmosphere was delightful for people not used to taxidermy; biscuits and gravy was delicious for people raised on it. We decided the secret ingredient was sage, and also that if we were not already planning some backcountry excursions in Glacier we would stick around and experience all the additional antler racks that night life in the Hungry Bear bar side had to offer. For breakfast at least, a hearty recommendation. Our meal was inexpensive ($49 for 5 giant plates) and tasty (also rec the breakfast brat) and above all, we received very pleasant, timely service. read more

When here with my family on a road trip and absolutely loved it! I had three people got the soup of the day and it warmed the bones this Christmas. I had the buffalo chicken wrap and it was so good! Hot chicken, lots of cheese, lettuce, tomatoes. Fries to die for!!!!! Brother in lawgot the gyro, and said it was awesome. My fiancé got the chicken fried steak and practically licked the plate :) This place gets 5 stars for ambiance, decor, food, service and exactly what you want from a Montana restaurant. The Hungry Bear is a friendly, very-serviceable place for basic food and booze. It saved the evening when our hosts' power remained off for over 24 hours after a summer thunderstorm festival. Two sets of locals told us to avoid anything but the prime rib or pizza. We did, and happily had good solid meals of each. The salad bar is simple but fresh and satisfying -- it comes with the meat dinners and as an add-on to pizzas. The staff was extremely helpful. They phoned our cell when our table was about ready so we didn't have to wait long in the packed halls and bar. (The power outage in midsummer made lots of people decide to dine out, and I overheard a worker explain that our evening there was by-far the busiest of the year.) The service was friendly and personable -- quite a feat in the chaos of hungry people. The prime rib was 1 shade overcooked, and the pizza was 2 minutes underdone (doughy, but not raw). But, the quality was good. The pizza sauce was interesting and fresh-tasting, and veggies were plentiful. The mushrooms were canned, but, hey, this pizza is served year round and I'm betting fresh mushrooms don't come out here in February. Stick to the prime rib and pizza, and you'll like your meal. read more
