Okay, I read the other reviews and we decided to give Lindey's a try. It's been there for YEARS, it's kind of an icon. So we took the drive from Missoula to Seeley Lake, which was beautiful. The location is marvelous, a beautiful place with a great lake view. It was lunch, so we ordered a hamburger, the menu was different from what their website shows, be forewarned. Your burger options are listed with fewer cheese and topping choices. We both opted for the side salad instead of a "bag of chips" as our side. (No fries, tots or onion rings, just a heads up) The meal arrived, the salad was super cold, crisp iceberg lettuce with 3 tiny tomatoes and western style dressing. It was small but very tasty. The menu said the burger would be cooked medium, that sounded fine but but was actually much closer to well done. The meat itself had virtually no flavor and would have been terrible if not for the toppings. The server was fair, it seemed a little like she really didn't want to serve us, maybe she was having a bad day. There was only 1 other couple in the restaurant, I understand why. You can not rate this place high enough. There an entire metropolitan cities that do not have a steak place as good as this. The steak is cooked to perfection. We were on our way to Columbia Falls. We were looking for a quality spot to eat that wasn't fast food and was open past 8pm. We happened to find Lindey's Prime Steakhouse and read the reviews. We happened to be a mile away! Not the simplicity of the menu and the flexibility that you can share a meal and have the meat cooked two different temperatures was very appealing. The salad was crisp and delicious and the salad dressing was wonderful. The garlic bread, albeit was a little overcooked. It was very tasty. The button mushrooms were tender and sautéed perfectly. The steak was amazing and a lot more than two people could complete in a meal. The potatoes were the only lackluster item that we received. They looked like some type of breakfast potato. They were a little bit undercooked, and there was a spice that was odd tasting on it. I was not expecting grey baked in the oven steak. I should have read the reviews. The best thing we had was the mushrooms. The steak was bland, not grilled, not at all what I'd expect from a steakhouse. What really grossed us out was the dog poop bags they use to bag up leftovers. The workers greet you with a friendly demeanor then bring a large sign on a stand with the three options you have to order. 16 oz of Special sirloin, sirloin, or ground sirloin. The steaks come out in thick chunks. it was cooked nicely (I ordered mine medium). it was a bit much so I asked if I could take the rest to go. The waitress proceeded to whip out a little plastic bag from her apron and said "we have doggie bags if that's alright?". Before we could respond she placed her hand inside the bag and reached over and grabbed the leftover steak and pulled it into the bag before securing it with a knot. We were grossed out and disgusted as she retrieved the potatoes and mushrooms with her hand inside a plastic bag as it she was picking up after a dog. Nope will not go back there for sure. New Years Eve, the roads were great, so we decided to make our way from Missoula to Lindey's. We have Lived in Missoula 35 yrs and never been. We sat in the bar and had a drink... fabulous margarita. When we went into the dining room the waitress explained the menu and the history of Lindeys. So interesting. Never have I been to a restaurant that had only 3 steaks for dinner or shrimp. I am puzzled by the whole experience. We originally stopped in the city to get some gas, and then looked for some local food. We were lucky to be there just before 5pm when this place open, there was already a big lane in front of us. Looks like we picked a great spot that locals loved! Menu option is pretty simple, but that works great. We ordered two specials, one for each. We ordered it rare. It was perfectly cooked and juicy, really awesome! The potatoes also were great, so as the mushrooms side. While the food was great, the service could definitively be improved. I wish the waiter would have been a bit more helpful and told us to just share one portion instead of ordering one for each. 16oz steak times two, that's a gigantic piece of meat. we could not finish it... so we naturally did like we do anywhere else. asked for a box to go... and the waiter came back with literal "doggie bags", with a smiley doggy on it. She then placed our leftovers in those plastic bag... she left the awesome juicy sauce on the plate ... I have to ask, Is that all the respect you have for your own food?! Also are those bags food safe?! I would have been happy to pay an extra $1 to cover the cost of the box. For a $40 portion I would have expected better. Wow what an unexpected fortune find on our spontaneous road trip from Bozeman to Glacier! The new car didn't route us through Lincoln as expected so had to find a place to eat in Seeley, not much cell coverage (read none!) between Avon & here so we took a chance & pulled over. Wow, just wow! The do one thing extremely extremely well! However... I will admit it was way too much food! Party of six Montanans recently shared a table; all ordering the top offering steak special along with a side of mushrooms. Salad arrived and basically iceberg lettuce, a few cherry tomatoes, and thousand island dressing as only choice. Sirloin steak medium rare and one could tell from cuts that meat mediocre with gristle plainly visible. Meat cooked as ordered, medium rare. None of our party of six could slice meat with serrated steak knives, much less chew it and swallow. Reminded one of chewing shoe leather! We left disappointed and stuck with a $181.00 bill not including tip. There are so many fine steakhouses in Montana serving quality steaks at much cheaper prices and so much better quality left all of in this party very disappointed; knowingly aware of price escalation in meat pricing. We were happy to be there soaking wet & cold having just survived a scary river rafting capsize. The generous whisky pour & waitstaff cordiality was appreciated. Not overly impressed w the food but hey I'm a snobby hard to pease retired chef of over 50 years. "Sirloin"? It's a vague description. Typically means a steak made from a cross section of the loin or "backstrap" muscle of a steer ie NY Strip, T-Bone or porterhouse. This was none of those. I believe it was a cut from what the Brits call a "rump roast" or what the trade is calling a "Baseball" Steak. Definitely missing the the fat marbling which make a real loin steak juicy & tender. We ordered one ea of the "Special" & "prime". The server couldn't really explain the difference and upon tasting each, neither could I. Not the "mouthfeel" of a really good cut; just big n fat. They were cooked correctly med rare as specified. Ok but not astounding flavor. "You get all the sides" which consists of a little soufflé cup w a few slices of pickled watermelon rind, a slab of salty gratin-like hash brown which is likely mass produced in sheet trays (Sysco sells cases of bags of this hash brown potato mix) and a little bowl of cubed garlic powder enhanced white bread to mix w your au jus. The salad was nothing but iceberg w two cherry tomatoes & commercial Russian dressing. I asked about a slice of onion but none to be had. They could do so much better for a tiny expenditure of food cost. A " concept formula" restaurant that clearly appeals to their market thus a "good" establishment by restaurant business standards. Wow... Amazing steak! Tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. We both ordered the 'Special Steak' because our wonderful waitress said it was the most tender of the three options. Each serving is actually two large steaks so it could easily be shared (sharing cost is $7.50). Next time we will share a steak, we had lots of left overs. Plates are piping hot and sizzle when your steak hits it. We ordered mushrooms and they were excellent. I love the concept: choose your steak and beverage and that's pretty much it. First time stop at Lindey's last night and came with a vegetarian- oops. I actually didn't realize there was literally 3 choices on the menu, all expensive and overpriced steaks. Luckily they had a salad (iceberg lettuce and 1000 island) potatoes, mushrooms and bread so he made due without any complaints. So, the meat. It's only variations of sirloin and I figured I might as well get the "finest" they offer which is an aged sirloin. Size was great (16oz), cooked perfectly, but the cut of meat was poor, very poor. Twice I bit into tendons and gristle that I could not chew through and had to spit out. Also, this steak is $31 so you would think it would be one of the best... not so much. The reason I give 3 stars and not 2 is because the potatoes were excellent, actually a different flavor and perfect seasoning, mushrooms also great. Bread and salad were sub par. We have nothing bad to say about the service, really kind and knowledgeable waitress and staff, no complaints at all there. I think they better go back to the drawing board on their meat, I like the very simple menu myself, and vegetarians should just know it's not a great stop for them. ( More like utility on a bad day ). When our meals arrived, the server had to saw through what looked like sirloin tip roasts. We didn't realize the size, so had ordered two, but could not chew most of the bites we were able to cut off. Being fair, we do admit, the seasoning on the meat was good.
