Staying at The Irwin Street Inn and Restaurant was a wonderful experience. We stayed at the Inn for the first time in March 2024. We were met by Ricky, the Manager, and a very friendly and accommodating person with many interesting stories to tell about the Inn. He does an excellent job managing the Inn and he made our stay that much more enjoyable. The Restaurant and main part of the Inn is a historical landmark, built in 1886. The interior of the Inn and Restaurant are beautiful, with antique furnishings, stain glassed windows, tables overlooking the expansive courtyard, lined with trees and a stately Camphor tree that is over 100 years old. The restaurant offers a wonderful dining experience, with polished antique wood including the full-service bar, stained glass windows and lovely artwork. The menu offers many choices, the chef is excellent and the prices are more than reasonable, Our room overlooked the courtyard. The Inn is very quiet with the only sound being the soothing sound of a train in the distance. We couldn't have been happier with the room, high ceilings, adorned with antique furnishings, a large stained glass window, lovely artwork, and a very comfortable bed. The room was very clean. The highlight of the room was the large Victorian tub. We were to learn that someone quite famous recently stayed in our room. If you are a cat lover, there are a couple of friendly resident cats that like to interact with the guests, one lovely little cat named "Keno" who made our stay all that much more enjoyable. The Inn is just a few minutes' walk from the beautiful Civic Center Park and the historic Hanford Fox Theater, one of the few remaining theaters built in the 20s, which is fully restored to its 1929 elegance. The Park also has many restaurants, cafes and shops. Hanford was declared one of the 12 "Hidden Gems" in America Better Homes and Garden magazine and Architecture Magazine. The Irwin Street Inn location is perfect for exploring Hanford. Whether it is for planning a business convention, planning a Wedding, or just for a weekend getaway, The Irwin Street Inn is the perfect place. If you are planning on exploring the Sequoia National Park, the Inn is less than an hour's drive to the Park. We could not have been happier with the Irwin Street Inn and cannot recommend it highly enough. You are guaranteed to have a wonderful experience staying there. We hope to be back soon read more

This place is super cute. It is an old house that you dine in. The atmosphere is so charming. It is reservation only so have to make sure to do so because it is small. The waiter was so nice and we enjoyed our conversation with him. The food was so good, the rolls were just addicting. We're here again!!!! No special reason, just because it's a terrific restaurant. I'm getting a one pound lobster with escargot appetizer. Wife is having the ribeye. SIL is having the steak Diane. They're sharing the shrimp scampi appetizer. Will write another review afterwards. The English language doesn't have the proper superlatives for the food here. Words like outstanding, superb, awesome and all the rest pale beside the wonderful meal we had tonight. The lobster was perfection. So very tasty and firm without being mushy. It was served with fresh broccoli and miniature potatoes. All well flavored. The same was declared by both my wife and SIL. The meat was tender and not overcooked, and well seasoned. Absolutely love this place! It's our go to for any special occasion. Always Valentine's day and sometimes our anniversary. Everything is delicious, beautifully displayed, and you can taste and see the quality of the food. The escargot is to die for! The Chilean sea bass is my husbands obsession (SO GOOD), The beef Wellington was cooked to perfection, the duck is amazing, and don't get me started on the desserts! For the inn. I understand quaint and charming. This place is dirty and decrepit. Everything is old and worn out starting at the front door. Broken lock and disgusting door mat. Bathroom fixtures chipped and dirty. Spider webs in every corner, wallpaper pealing, crappy towels and drapes that cover about 90% of the window. Not even cups for water in the room. After a warm shower in the morning, no place to get coffee. Oh, and homeless guy sleeping in the parking lot. Stay away. read more

We have always liked going to Irvine Street Inn in Hanford, CA. This past Saturday we went to celebrate my sister and her husband's anniversary. Because of all the rules regarding COVID-19, we sat outside on the porch. It was a little warm, but the atmosphere was welcoming and friendly. The menu is a little abbreviated but the choices were great. We had all three of the appetizers: escargot, bruschetta, and sautéed mushrooms. I had the fillet mignon tornados. It came with grilled asparagus and roasted potatoes. I couldn't finish it; had to ask for a to-go box. The chef still remembers our family because he introduced my grand niece to escargot and made her a special dish. I can highly recommend this place for dining. The food is excellent and plentiful. No skimping here. I'm so glad the Inn is doing okay despite the pandemic. Our family will be going back for celebrations for years to come. read more

I wasn't totally impressed with this place. I'm a picky eater, I only like beef and chicken so I ordered the Ribeye with no blue cheese medium well. When it arrived it was medium rare so they threw it on for a few more minutes but by the time I got it back everyone else was done eating. The asparagus and garlic mash were good, I just think a $40 steak should be cooked right and a baked potato option would have been much better. Come for the dessert, stay for dinner. Irwin Street is a tiny gem in Hanford. It's only 8 tables and the service is outstanding. The menu changes but there is always something wonderful to try. Make sure you stay for dessert. The bread pudding is the best around. read more

For the Restaurant - Absolutely incredible! Hussein is a wonderful chef and the many times I have been here it has always been wonderful. The setting is very quaint and the perfect place for a date night. They also do brunch on Sunday's but I am much more fond of the Dinner. My husband goes for the steaks which are always perfectly cooked and I usually have the chicken dishes which are seasoned perfectly. All entrees come with a soup or a salad (the clam chowder is incredible). I wish more people knew about the restaurant, I feel like it is not very well advertised and doesn't have much of an online presence. Yes it is a little more expensive but you are paying for the quality of food you are getting. We go here about once a month for a date night! read more

Don't waste your time or money here at this Inn. Management has decided to do nothing about the accommodations based on user reviews and personal experience. The room was smelly. It smelled like an old wet dog. The toilet was broken when we got into our room, and we couldn't fix it. It was 1 am so we just went to sleep and checked out the next morning. The sheets are old and stained. The carpet was stained and crusty in some areas. The room was 49 degrees when we walked in and it took hours to warm it up. The graffiti on the wall was par for the course after all that transpired. The only good thing I can say is that we were able to check out without any penalty as we had booked for three days. We did have to pay for one night. Extremely disappointing. It looks cute from the outside but the rooms are something much different. read more

How sad that a once beautiful Inn has been sold to individual's who do not take care of it. My room was very dirty! I went to the store and bought cleaning supplies, just so I could sleep there! Dead bugs, all kind everywhere, under the tub, baseboards, entry door, I don't know when the last time they dusted or wiped down walls, painted baseboards. Every dresser was broke or dismantled. Shower curtain was old and dirty., room smelled old, had to buy a candle., the hotel management said they would clean my room daily, only if requested, really? ?, towels were cheap, pillows were yellow and as old as the inn. I'm very dissatisfied and someone should shut this place down until it's cleaned throughly!! RUN! read more

I was looking for fine dining here in Hanford and decided to try this place. It's not your average restaurant experience as it has a very vintage ambiance which I was intrigued by. The service was good. Our waiter was very attentive and our food was overall great. Portions and presentation were satisfactory. I thought my steak was just good but my fiancé and 10 year old thought that theirs was great. My other daughter had the pasta and at 16 she is quite the food critic and she said it was delicious! First off the staff was very friendly and my little dogs were able to stay with me as well! A big PLUS! The place is nestled in trees with green lawns and twinkle lights at night. The rooms have a rustic Victorian charm, pull toilets, pedestal sink, claw-foot tubs and armoire. The room was warm (it was cold there) and cozy and the bed was fine. I admit, there are a few things that a little TLC by management could improve the overall experience, but I was comfortable in the room. I had the pleasure of dinning with my family there over the Holidays and Chef Hussein prepared a delightful meal. Worst Mother's Day Brunch ever. Food was gross and old tasting. Made me sick to my stomach. The smell coming from the kitchen smelt of old fry grease. Overpriced Mother's Day Brunch!! $25/person you would expect wait staff to wish you a Happy Mother's Day to start...nothing. The food and seating was outside in the courtyard and the flies were lighting on everything that was set out. They were dive bombing your plate and it made it real hard to enjoy. At one point I asked for a fan to help keep the flies off of us and the food. No fan. We ordered mimosas which were brought out in a plastic cups. My daughter ordered a second round and they never brought it out. My daughter and her boyfriend were charged a 20% gratuity on the tab. The service sucked!! I expected a lot more. read more

My first review was based off of being completely new to the area and finally finding a place where my age group could go and have fun. After going back to the Inn more than once I have to say I am not impressed, here are some cons to Irwin Street Inn: 1. The rooms at the inn are always cold unless there is a space heater placed. 2. There are rarely any hand towels or wash cloths because the establishment doesn't have any. 3. When the Inn is closed, it's very hard to get ahold of anyone; there is a time period where the Inn is actually closed, and the phone gets forward to one of the residents living at the Inn. 4. There are a few decent staff members; the housekeeper that use to work there was very prompt and made the rooms look amazing (me). 5. This ties into number three, but the owner is very very hard to get ahold of. He rarely comes into the Inn and when he does, he leaves to go shopping or he goes up to his office. 6. There isn't much communication with the staff. For instance, a guest orders something off of the menu that is priced differently than they were told. When they go to pay for their order, another staff member would argue the original price with the guest because the first staff member had not communicated it to the second staff member. 7. The events that are thrown at the inn aren't my age group- friendly. The Pre-Thanksgiving Bash was perfect for my age group, but when I later found out that the event wasn't planned by Irwin Street Inn, I then realized why. 8. The food is a bit over priced for me. 9. I hate to add this one, but I also felt there was prejudism. Despite all of the cons, there is one pro; 1. The food is delicious. read more

I'm a native of Hanford, and living here once again after years away. On behalf of my hometown, I apologize to anyone who has had a bad experience at the Irwin Street Inn. I am saddened by these posts, and not at all surprised. I too have had awful experiences with the current management/owners, and haven't been back in years. It used to be a wonderful place, with excellent food. It was -- years ago -- THE place to stay in Hanford. My family and I often had Sunday brunch there and celebrated special occasions there often. No longer. I encourage any of you who've had problems to contact the local Chamber of Commerce [www.hanfordchamber.com] or at 109 West 7th Street, Hanford - (559) 582-0483; or the visitors' bureau; as well as the California state visitors' bureau and the AAA or CSAA and register your complaints and concerns. I would avoid this place if you like clean hotels. The carpet was stained, the comforter was stained, there was a cockaroach in the bathroom, there was no top sheet on the bed, and the bath towels were small and felt like sand paper. The tile floor in the bathroom was filthy. read more

Found this Gem while Searching for a place to stay. We didn't stay at the Inn but we did enjoy a nice romantic dinner. The Irwin Street restaurant is a great place for a quiet and romantic date night. Walking in you feel like you traveled back in time. The restaurant has great atmosphere and the food was excellent. My wife ordered the Prosciutto Salmon and i ordered the Filet Mignon. Our meal started with a couple of spinach salads with choice of dressing and some toasted sour dough bread. My wife enjoyed the salmon very much and i include the Filet on my Mt. Rushmore of steak. The menu stated 8 oz. but it appeared to be larger and it was cooked to order. The restaurant was somewhat empty so we took our time and enjoyed the meal and each others company. Service was great we felt treated like regulars even though this was our first time. Next time we are in Hanford we will for sure eat here again. Do yourself a favor and give them a try. Prices were very reasonable. read more

First time ever having dinner here... I've stayed at the Inn a few times, eaten lunch few times so I was excited to try dinner. Tuesday night at 6:00, three girlfriends and I were the only table in the restaurant so we had the whole restaurant and wait staff to ourselves! I ordered French onion soup (one of the best I've ever had..cheese melted perfectly..) and beef tournados as my main course (melt in your mouth fantastic). My girlfriends and I enjoy a drive out to Hanford and having lunch at the Irwin Street inn. Sitting on the veranda, sipping ice tea, is very idyllic. The food is ok, but the setting is even better. Go on over to Superior Dairy for dessert. read more

Me and my now wife used the Irwin St Inn for our wedding venue. We were very pleased with how the night turned out. The inn is very beautiful at night and perfect for a reception. Chef Hussein who owns the inn was very helpful and flexible making sure both my wife and I were happy with everything. They also catered our food for the wedding and we got many compliments with how delicious it was. Wedding planning can be very stressful, but Chef Hussein and his assistant Ricky helped make our night perfect. They have done alot of work to maintain the grounds and it paid off. The Irwin St Inn has an old time elegant look to it and truly gave us a fairy tale wedding. The only downside was the room in which we stayed the night of. It is very dated and our toilet didn't work. Hopefully they continue to work on the beautiful building and renovate the rooms. Just celebrated my daughter's sweet 16 birthday and I must say sadly that it was a terrible, terrible experience. Awful service, lie after lie, nothing but shadiness from management. I wish I had the option to give a negative star! My stay here made me a faithful Yelper! I only wish I had read the other reviews before booking four nights at the Irwin Street Inn. My husband and I chose Hanford as a quirky place to stay for our anniversary. The town was cute, and the surrounding agricultural area was fun to explore. I made our reservations based on the Irwin Street Inn's own website. What a mistake! The room smelled when we opened the door - that dank, musty smell. We opened the windows and went to dinner at the hotel's restaurant (very salty!). The place had such potential but the furnishings are old. The sheets (top and bottom) didn't match, and the blanket and comforter looked like they hadn't been laundered for quite some time. The basket of toiletries in the bathroom had two small bottles of shampoo and a used q-tip! The water smelled, and tasted worse. We used bottled water to brush our teeth. I wore socks so as not to touch the carpet. Normally, I would protest, but didn't want to ruin our anniversary. After all - I was the one who made the reservations. Breakfast was in the restaurant again - just off the regular menu. Nothing special. When we arrived back in our room after a day of exploring, the sheets had not been changed (water conservation - understood) but the comforter had just been pulled up - not neatly. We had great Thai food (thanks to Yelp suggestions) and put the leftovers in the room fridge. After our second night, and the same breakfast, we left to explore the orange groves. When we got back, the bed had not even been made. The pillows and comforter had been thrown on the bed haphazardly. We looked forward to leftover Thai food. My husband opened the microwave and put the container in without really looking in the microwave. BIG MISTAKE! The microwave was full of old coffee! He pulled the food out and splattered the liquid (??) all over himself and the floor. That was the final straw. We packed up at 8:30 p.m. and drove to Fresno to stay at a Courtyard Marriott, forfeiting the remaining two nights. At least it was clean! read more

Been here twice in last month food is so good. On Friday nights they offer live music and you can dine outside in a lit up garden area. Pretty romantic. I had the sirloin once and the apple wine pork chops the next time. Very yummy. My husband had the shrimp cooked in wine, and they were so huge.
