First meal of mini-vacation. I just wanted the good old fish-n-chips and a shake. And there was no disappointment. My Mom had the Rueben and was practically drooling with delight. Fresh and hot and very friendly and efficient service. Owner came out and chatted and made us feel very welcomed to the digs as well as to Long Beach. This is the second meal I have had here in the last year. I've been pleased with the quality of the food and exemplary personable customer service. We came in and enjoyed clam chowder bowls with a side of cheese fries. The food tasted great, and the overall cost wasn't too bad. I got a peanut butter and black berry milkshake. I'm posting this in hopes that the owner reads these reviews. We stopped by hungry harbor on a Wednesday at about 5:20, posted hours said they were open till 6. We were told that they had a long wait and it would be 20-25 mins in order to get our food so maybe we should try a different restaurant. When we said that it would be fine for us to wait the gal that we originally spoke to huffed off. We got our order taken by another worker and went outside to wait for our food. The food itself was cooked and prepared just fine and the order took less than 10 mins to come out. In the time it took us to eat and get our order we saw no less than 5 customers be turned away by those tending the restaurant. They all came by no later than 5:45. The country and food service industry is still reeling from the pandemic so to see a business willingly turn away paying customers was shocking and disappointing. We weren't particularly wowed or disappointed with the food itself but I felt it was important if the owner does happen to see this review that the workers you had on that day did not seem very interested in keeping your business afloat. read more

We decided to stop and grab dinner before heading to the hotel. I have to say i LOVE this little spot! The girls at the counter were awesome. My husband ordered the Queenanne/w chowder, I had the special 2pc cod which was more then enough plus a strawberry banana milkshake, and a couple sodas. I was very pleasantly surprised at the cost since the night before we spent almost triple for a 1 dinner and a bowl chowder that was just gross. Came here again. Ordered the same sandwich as last time: Chicken sandwich. The chicken in my sandwich was super great. Super moist (loved that!), and quick to eat. Hubby got the Tall Paul with cheese on his fries. The "Cheese" on his fries was imitation nacho cheese. Had they used the real stuff, I would have had some on mine, but the texture of it and the lack of flavor kind of ruined eating the fries that it was on. The sandwiches, even though they are great, are lacking in magic. Not a whole lot of "Wow" to them. I always think that if they had their own house sauce, or something special in their mixing of meat or breading, it would knock other grills out of the park. In the end, we spend $23 dollars which was about $8 too much in my book. Also the 'owner' or the head in the place (I think his name is Dennis?) seems a bit gruffy. someone needs to lighten up a little, and smile more. Enjoy serving people the good food you have there and be happy to see everyone as many other places don't have lines out their doors waiting for food as you did the day we went. Had a visitor in town from Indiana and having moved out here recently ourselves, we've fallen in love with Long Beach Peninsula-we had to bring him out here! Silly us, beginning of December on a high surf warning day, we didn't really consider that not much would be open. Atmosphere: All nine of us stumbled through the doors out of the wind and rain, and most likely due to the season and weather we had the place all to ourselves except for one other couple. The young lady behind the counter was extremely polite and gave us time to look at the menu-lots of burgers, some seafood, kids' meals and the like. She got our order right as it was delivered, without missing a beat. Our friend ordered right behind us. While we waited for food, the kids and adults checked out the HUGE Christmas Village display in the back room, it was beautiful! The food: HUGE, appropriately priced portions, fairly large kids meals which was a plus! The bacon cheeseburgers, the Tall Paul, chicken salad, fish and chips and chowder, shrimp (huge) and chips were all great. We were able to sub curly fries with cheese for regular fries for a small upcharge. Hot cider with real cinnamon stick in the cup. The coleslaw wasn't the best, but it wasn't a deal-breaker, as the humongous shrimp made up for it! Staff even asked how our food was when we were through and made sure that the kids had seen the village. Overall: Made our impromptu visit to the peninsula nice. Filled our bellies with big food and it was warm and cozy. They didn't even bat an eye at such a large group of people rolling through the door, which is typically how we determine repeat visits. Probably the best bang for your buck in Long Beach. Staff treated us like we were long time locals even though we'd never been there before. Food was excellent and prices are about as cheap as you'll find for the area. It's also fast. I wouldn't call it "fast food," but it didn't take more than 10 minutes to order and start eating. It's small, so seating can be difficult during busy times. But there's also outside seating. read more

Came with two slices of tomato, some grilled onions, and a dry, chewy, flavorless "Elk" patty. The order was ready in under 5 minutes, which was a red flag. Probably toasted the buns, and nuked the patties. Dude, learn to cook. The clam chowder bread bowl was edible, but not what one would expect from a coastal town. Very happy with our visits! Friendly staff! Enjoyed a nice prime rib dinner at a very reasonable price. The gentleman at the window told us about the buffet breakfast they offer on Sunday... and we were very happy with dinner so we decided to give the breakfast a try. What a surprise!!! I learned from my husband's family who live in Long beach for long time. They knew on every Sunday this restaurant has buffet. Worth it. All foods are so good! It's not common flavors buffet. Way much better than I thought. I live in Portland and most buffet foods are flavor bored to me. But this restaurant for only breakfast on Sunday is best. Every November, my family and I visit Long Beach Washington. Every visit includes at least one visit, if not multiple visits, to Hungry Harbor Grille. We went here when we first got to town, despite the poor reviews...turned out to be the best lunch of our vacation! Generous hamburgers....a juicy oyster burger..Good fries...We ordered exactly the same things at castaway's, and hungry harbor was definitely better. I did not get the fish so I cannot speak to that. Great burgers! The edges were crispy and delicious while the middle was still juicy. The veggies were fresh and the bun was soft. Pretty good food. It was very fresh. Had the shrimp salad and clam chowder. Chowder was above average but not memorable. The salad was ridiculously fresh and very large. The ranch dressing left something to be desired. Good for a quick bite if you're in town but wouldn't go out of my way to come here. I never write reviews, but today I was so shocked when I walked into Hungry Harbor and there was a female working who was not wearing a mask, face covering, or shield of any kind, and did not have gloves on. She was flipping burgers and handling to-go orders, and talking to co-workers and did not have masks or a glove. She was working in the kitchen the whole time. The lobby was crowded as well, but masks for customers were all worn. I am just appalled that she was not wearing a mask in the kitchen, and how this has not been reported before. read more

Sunday at the peninsula. We stopped by this place, it was super busy, and happened to where we ate last time we were in town. The owner Dennis Roberts was working behind the counter, smiling and chatting with customers, serving drinks as orders were made, making himself available to his team and his customers. We had basic hamburgers (perfectly made to order) with fries (which were crinkly style - delicious). And wow, we ordered 4 bottled waters - which were only 25 cents each. A little later I pulled Dennis to the side and asked how they could possibly sell bottled for such a low price - he told me - what an amazing story. I suggest you go, ask him about the controlled costs for their bottled water. Amazing team he has, he is an outstanding host too. The community here benefits from him, for sure! By the way, when he bought the restaurant he was open only in the season (with approximately 6 employees), now he is open 365 days a year (with approximately 21 employees). There is inside seating and a lot of outside seating, we sat outside with our pooch. We will recommend folks go there and visit again when in Long Beach WA next time. Stopped in to order a quick snack. They had signs on the window that said not allowed inside unless you are ordering or waiting for an order due to COVID-19. After we ordered we waited outside for 15 minutes for just a corn dog then decided to wait inside(which according to their own signage was allowed). The young lady behind the register was rude and told us to wait outside, when we pointed out their signage she went and ripped them down. The food was mediocre at best but the service was horrible. I got the fish and chips with clam chowder and it was run of the mill frozen tasting fish, mushy fries and canned tasting clam chowder. Several family members got burgers that were too expensive, the bacon burger had less than half a strip of bacon on it. McDonalds up the road would have been a better choice. We asked for water cups and were told we had to pay for bottles of water if we wanted water. We came in on Friday night of the big clamming festival weekend right before they closed. There was a large group in front of us, a couple and then another family behind us. As the large group was called up to get their food they were handed to go bags. There food filled 4 grocery store type to go bags so they purchased a lot of food. The husband commented they were eating there but they would make it work. They were then told they could not eat there, they had to take their food with them and leave because they closed at 8pm. Never was it mentioned to any group that we could order but we had to take it with us. I know this because there was discussion between all of us about not being told, no sign saying anything and no hint being given we had to eat elsewhere. None of us were happy about this being the case. It was too cold to eat outside so the only choice was to eat in the car. The large group and the couple in front of us got refunds because they were driving home and it's kinda hard to eat clam chowder in a bread bowl while in a car and having the vehicle crammed full of kids and stuff. The other family took their food to go as did we since we were staying in town. As we got our food I double checked it was all there and correct while a teenage girl looked irritated that we did not grab the bag and run out the door. I started looking for ketchup since we had several things that required ketchup and found there was mustard and malt vinegar but no ketchup anywhere. I asked about it and was told that they pulled all the ketchup in so that no one could use it and stay to eat! They did not even give us the things we needed to take our food and eat it. No spoons, napkins or sauces were given to us until we directly asked for them. Had we grabbed the bag and left we would not have been able to even eat the clam chowder without drinking it from the container. While we were waiting a boy from the large group and my daughter both had to use the restroom. Both times we asked where it was we were told we could not use it since it was after 8pm and they were closed but there were public bathrooms a block or so away. I have never been to a restaurant that kicks everyone out like that when they close especially allowing people to order tons of food without saying anything at all. While we were all sitting waiting for our food over half the tables in the front area of the restaurant were filled. It's not like it was a couple of people they were serving, it was a sizable amount of people they kicked out. To not allow 2 young kids to use the restroom that is right there while waiting for the food is the topper. We will not be returning and I doubt the other people there that night will either. Save your money and hit a fast food place instead. You'll get better food, better service and pay less for it. read more
