Its next door to Idle Hour coffee., I first tried to see if it was on the Slice app and couldn't find it. I got the website from YELP and downloaded the app. I ordered a small pizza with Italian herb crust for me and a large with pepperoni and mushroom for my son. The app suggested a Howie Roll and I ordered it also. We decided to have the order delivered.. It is easy to order and track it on the app. The order arrived quickly. I recently ordered a pizza online for delivery. Unfortunately it was the worst! I don't use DoorDash and never do, but I got sent a DoorDash driver! How does that even happen! I feel like Roy Rogers when it comes to pizza, I've never met one that I didn't like! Frozen, delivery, deep-dish or thin crust, I'll eat it all. But there are some that are better than others and Hungry Howie's is exactly that, a bit better than your standard chain delivery pizza. This location is the only one in the Triangle, hidden on a corner of Oberlin Road in Five Points. Their pizza specialty is flavored crust with eight tasty flavas! Their pies aren't that big, the large is only 14" but it makes up for it in pizza density! The crust is pretty light and doughy, reminds me a bit of Pizza Hut but a bit better. They go heavy on the toppings which is great, Hungry Howie's uses good ingredients. Overall a very solid pizza that's fresh, tasty and greasy, thumbs up! Hungry Howie's is a step up from Domino's and the Hut but not quite as good as Capital Creations. I started working here in July of this year with the new owner. I was previously hired with the last owner they had until it got shut down. So I was hunting for a job for a little bit until I noticed all of the ovens, coolers, and appliances getting put back into the store. So I reached out to the previous manager and asked if they were reopening and they said they would like to come back I said yes but I was desperate for a job and money at the time. They hired me as a delivery driver which I was more than okay with since I previously got hired as a delivery driver. When I started hungry Howies it was great! The pay was great, the hours were wonderful, and the coworkers were amazing! Then I found I was pregnant, and that's when things went downhill. I had doctor appointments, scans, etc so I had to request off of work. My family lives 2 hours away from hungry Howies which that's where my appointments were at. Then the management started "letting people go" (in their words) which I thought was kinda weird but never thought too much of it since we had so many other people working there. They "let go" two managers, a delivery driver, and a cook. I loved both of the managers they were amazing! Then I was talking to my managers about maternity leave (which they did not offer) so I put down 6 weeks of maternity leave (for March of 2025) I went on vacation for my birthday and then my manager texted me and told me they no longer have delivery drivers and that they picked 2/3 delivery drivers to stay. So I didn't respond because what are you supposed to say? "Aw damn well it was great working with you" or "Aw that sucks" so I doordashed enough to make money for me and my husband. On the other note I'm making more money now than I would be at Hungry Howies (doing front of house) so after I found out that I got "let go" I found another job where my family lives. So after all that happened my mother-in-law came up for a visit because we're going on vacation. So we decided to get hungry Howies for dinner. Nothing was wrong with the food other than as soon as we walked in a hungry Howies delivery driver was driving back from an order (I thought they didn't have delivery drivers) then I was pissed off obviously. So we paid for our food and waited for it to come out as we were waiting a worker was taking an order on the phone and asked the customer "Would you like this to be a pickup order or a delivery (again didn't think they had delivery drivers) anyways after that phone call they also said to another worker "hey your delivery is about to be ready" (I thought they didn't have delivery drivers?) anyways if you want to work here I highly recommend and suggest you NOT! I feel like they were butt hurt and mad because the manager said before I got hired that I would be making more than them as a delivery driver which I felt was true. After all, I was making over $300 a week and sometimes over $500 a week! I also feel like they were mad at me since I was asked for maternity leave too. My dad ordered wings and a pepperoni pizza from this place. Took forever, and when we opened the box of wings, they were really small wings like I've never seen before. They were like the size of a jay bird wing lol. The wings weren't good at all. The pizza was very mediocre the sauce was terrible. The worst part about the whole experience was when I took a bite out of the pizza, there was a long, black, disgusting hair in my mouth and absolutely ruined my appetite and my dads and we threw all of it out. I saw an advertisement in my hotel this evening for the Hungry Howie's on Oberlin, and realized how long it had been since I'd had any - about a decade ago, when I was still living in Florida. Looks like they've come a long way with the online ordering sector since then, and their food is still great. What makes the pizza unique are the free "flavored" crusts that come at no additional charge - you can get sesame seeds, butter, ranch, garlic, etc. All crust types are available, but the traditional round is always great - a little bit on the thicker side, and a little heavy on the mozzarella cheese. I saw the delivery driver pull up and set the pizza on the ground in the dirt then ring the door bell. I immediately opened the door and she was already half way to the car. I asked where the pizza was, and she just said she left it on the ground by the door. There was all sorts of dirt and bugs in that particular area and it definitely was not professional. I would leave a review on the food, but it never showed up. At 7:45pm last night I ordered a large pizza, wings and extra sauces ($50+ 20%tip). At 8:50pm I had a missed call (phone was on silent) from the store so I called them back at 8:55 pm. The guy on the phone said that the driver did not have our apartment number and that the driver had already left our apartment complex. I wasn't going to get into it, but I in fact did provide our apartment number in the street address section because I did not see an apartment/unit number option when I ordered online - I gave the apartment number to the guy on the phone and he said that he will send the driver back out. Still, no sign of pizza at 9:50, so I called the store again to see where the driver was. The same guy on the phone said that the driver must be close. I called, AGAIN at 10:10pm and the same guy on the phone said that the driver delivered my pizza but he must have left it at the wrong unit. As I was aimlessly walking around my apartment complex at 10:15pm looking for my pizza, I asked the guy on the phone if he knew the unit number or if he had the drivers contact number so I could have some help locating the (over priced and probably cold) pizza I ordered over 2 hours ago. He responded saying that he will not give out the driver's personal phone number. This is understandable but disappointing because the guy on the phone didn't seem like he could (or would) help me. SO I pulled a Karen and asked to talk to the manager or to someone who could help me. To no surprise, the guy on the phone claimed that he was in fact the "manager".. At this point, I was done with the lies. Hungry and upset with the unhelpful employee I said, "Ok then where's my f**kin pizza?!" ..Of course the guy responded dominantly "DO NOT CURSE AT ME!" - he harped on that for a few minutes and I apologized, though I could still tell he was insulted that I dare speak to him that way. I told him no thanks because I didn't trust the sanitation of the pizza (or that it would even be delivered) after me "cursing at him" - He said that he was "sorry" that I felt that way. At the end of the day, instead of a pizza, I got poor service and a refund (thanks a lot). The whole reason I ordered the pizza in the first place was because I did not have food at home and just got off a 12 hour work shift. I went to bed hungry but mainly confused by the awful experience I just had with a restaurant that I have been a loyal customer (at this particular location) since 2012. I ordered food and when I didn't get it an hour and a half later I called. They said they didn't have a townhouse number. So they just dropped it at a random townhouse and didn't bother to call and verify when the driver realized it was a townhouse complex. I wasn't even that mad and said I would come and pick up my order instead since we had been waiting and we were hungry. I asked for a discount or a coupon. I was denied. They said it was my fault. No apologies and had I not called I would have paid for food that never came. Even after offering to come and get it I was denied a discount. I was to blame. Anytime I have ever ordered delivery and it was confusing the driver called. I never got any of that. They were rude and dismissive. I do not recommend this location. However, there is only one Raleigh location; the chain seems to be centered in points west, like Greensboro. Anyway - Hungry Howie's has some amazing delivery deals, wonderful pizza, fresh toppings, flavored crust, and the best cheese bread I've ever had! What a pleasant surprise on our quest to find quality pizza around the triangle! I may not be at a Carolina Hurricanes game but I want to scream Woooo! like Ric Flair after my garlic herb crust medium pizza with pepperoni surpassed expectations. Howie beats out the other cute baby sized slice joints like Dominos, Pizza Hut and Papa Johns so my money will be going here from now on when I want a quick fast food style pizza. The special tonight (or it could be every night) is a medium 1 topping pizza with 10 wings for $13. Why not just give it away? For serious you could feed a family of 2 big men or 3 medium sized men with this meal. LOVE this place- moved to Raleigh 2 years ago and had never heard of them previously, and didn't give them a chance until a couple months ago- BIG regret. This is the third time in one month that we've placed large pizza and salad orders from the Oberlin Road Hungry Howie's. We chose to order from them for our organizational gatherings. Their delivery drivers DO NOT wear masks. I complained the first two times because I am trying to do the caring thing and keep our community safe. This is my new favorite pizza chain. Their crusts are freaking awesome. Good amount of sauce. Not stingy on the toppings. I tried it, then talked my friends into ordering it. They've since all been looking to find the closest one to each of their homes. They're not as big as like Dominos, Papa Johns, or Pizza Hut. So don't expect QUITE as cheap deals as they can offer, but they are still pretty affordable and way freakin better. Yeah, it's chain pizza, but for all that you could still do worse than Hungry Howie's and this branch in particular. The space may be small but it's been clean and tidy every time I've been in and the staff are friendly and helpful without fail. If you're picking up, parking can be a bit of a challenge and traffic can make getting in and out of the small lot quite the skill, but delivery is an option! They're offering glutenless crusts now as well, so if that matters to you know that the choice is there. Maybe it's the college nostalgia kicking in because as much as I like those hand-crafted artisan pizzas popping up all over, I do also enjoy a green olive and mushroom HH pie with a garlic crust from time to time. Hungry Howies has really good deals on pizza but what makes them different is their crusts. They come in various flavors and my favorite is cajun or herb garlic. You can even get half the crust in one flavor and the other half in another. The pizza isn't Mellow Mushroom quality but it's still really good. The only side I've had is the cheesy bread and it's awesome, especially with the sauce that comes with it. If you're looking for some pizza to accompany a party with friends definitely give Howies a try. They usually have deals like 2large pizza's, cheesy bread and a 2liter for $20.
