No eating bread for me, so I didn't try a full on burger, but a Hunky's salad with beef, which was basically a cheeseburger on fresh greens with sauteed onions, cukes, and sauteed mushrooms. Hunky's always delivers great food. The chicken sandwich and salads are definitely winners. What sets Hunky's apart from a cliche hamburger joint is the great customer service. The friendly gay guys working the register are always charming and helpful and that can trump mediocre food any day, but the food delivers! Even the girl busing the table was extra friendly and that means the world to me at an establishment that does not offer waiter service. I usually get the double meat double cheese with tater tots, and sometimes when I'm feeling up to it one of their deserts. I would highly recommend Hunky's they have quite a large selection of burgers and meat selection. The burgers always come out steaming hot and fresh, you can no joke see the steam rising from your burger every single time. Not only that about half way through your burger you're still biting into a delicious hot burger with steam still rising. They give you the burger the very second it comes off the grill. I asked them if they could make me something from Australia (my home nation, I live here now) and it was something I haven't had in over 13 years. Well, they made the pineapple and banana fritter (dipped in their batter and deep fried) for me and only cost $1.00 each! That made my world and I felt like I was back in Australia!!) How disa-freakin-pointed I am!!!! Ordered double meat hamburger, grilled chix sandwich, chicken salad salad, club sandwich, plus various fried sides (spicy pickles, tots, onion rings and mushrooms) The fried sides fewer swimming in oil and lacked flavor except for soggy yuk. The burger was "ok" but way too much mayo, the sandwich was "meh", the chicken salad was literally tasteless, and the club sandwich was sloppily put together and not even quartered. (A pet peeve of mine when ordering a traditional club....I want 4 equal wedges people!). But once again, MAYO heavy Bottom line: spend your cow money at Whataburger for a better burger and less mess. After a couple of flight delays before our evening flight. We decided to stop by this place. My wife was in the mood for a hot dog and I cannot think of a place that would serve hot dogs in the Dallas area near the airport. I use Yelp, and lo and behold I was able to find this place that I had not been to since I moved to DFW back in 2010 when I was on my burger kick. She had the quarter pound chili dog and I had the grass-fed bacon cheeseburger. I also had a side of Fried Green Tomatoes as well as a side salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The fried green tomatoes were good but I did not like the batter that they used for them. Looks like it was just flower or a flower cornmeal mix but when you bit into them all of that flower just kind got soggy really fast. I think a wet batter may have worked a little better. The burger was a little Fern and did not fall a part in my mouth like I thought it would. I don't know if it was overcooked or just the grass-fed choice of beef. I've had hunkies before and the beef typically melts in your mouth. The Patty could have used a little seasoning or a little more seasoning if there was some used. The bun held up well which is very important to me with all the condiments and did not turn into a soggy mess. The waiters came to the table to check and make sure that we were okay, which was great. I ended up taking my kids back to this place once we returned that following week. My son I enjoy the burgers. My daughter did not enjoy her hot dog. The stuffed jalapeno peppers were good and my kids enjoy the french fries. read more

My family decided to try this local dive. The food was cooked perfect and the wait staff was friendly. They kept out drinks full and it was filling enough that we didn't have room for cake. (The cakes looked wonderful!) I do want to let you folks know about the atmosphere, especially if you plan to take your kids. This seems to be a gay pride location. There are posters of local events and I, personally, seemed a bit out of place. There was even one guy who was eating there wearing a "Gay and Trashy" T-shirt. As we drove away, the bar next door has rainbow flags flying everywhere. None of that changes that the food was very good. We each had a different hamburger and they were all delicious. I REALLY wanted to like this place but..... The hamburger reminded me of old time standard burger. Thin patty cooked on a griddle. Good but nothing new. In fact I had to order the double double just to get a sense of what the meat was all about, otherwise the tomato would have overpowered the patty. The onion rings were super greasy, so greasy I had to use a napkin on the INSIDE of my mouth. One of my companions had the fries which I tried, and they were good and not greasy. However, both the rings and the fries had a terrible taste like the grease had also been used to fry 30 year old fish sticks. In fact, it's now an hour later and I can still taste it. One of my companions had a grilled chicken sandwich and the other a turkey burger. Neither commented so I'm guessing it was pretty average. The staff was great but I would rather have a great burger from a surly short order cook than mediocrity from nice guys. I suppose we pay for the whole experience when dining out but if the food is not good, no amount of service will make up for it. read more

This place isn't that bad but it's nothing spectacular either. I ordered the Texan Cheeseburger with fries, and I saw that their fried mushrooms were popular so I got those too. Price is not bad at all so I didn't mind getting the extra side. The burger was okay, pretty standard burger. Fries were super soggy so that was a let down. The fried mushrooms were really good though. You should try those. I have also heard their milkshakes are pretty tasty but I didn't have one. Outside of the food, the atmosphere is nice. It's right across from S4 and JRs, so right in the heart of the gayberhood. If you can, sit outside; not just because the weather is nice, but people watching is always fun. Absolutely awesome!!! We went there back in March during a convention we were attending, and ended up wanting to go there again when we passed through on another road trip. The place is very open and welcoming as you walk up to it with big glass windows showing a very retro hamburger joint. The menu isn't too extensive but enough to keep most people's interest. I really enjoy their burgers and both times was very impressed with the onion rings. Their cakes are not to be missed. They even have cocktails, should you need one for that time of day. Hunky's is definitely on our map of go-to restaurants when we're either visiting or passing through Dallas. read more

Was craving onion rings, searched for "best onion rings dallas,"and yelp lead me here. I was not disappointed! The sweet potato fries and onion rings are delicious! (I LOVE onion rings!!) We also had the Guacamole burger and the Blue Cheese burger. The meat was dry, probably because the burger was cooked very well done. This was disappointing since they didn't ask me how I wanted my burger cooked when I ordered. I forgot that I need to specify if they don't ask. The Blue Cheese burger wasn't too amazing for the specialty price, so I think I'll stick to getting just a regular burger. Their outdoor seating area is a great place to sit and chat for a while, and when it started getting dark, the little string lights overhead added the perfect touch. Service was exceptional. I simply love this place. I usually order the double meat double cheese burger and swear its better the Five Guys. Love the home made deserts too... especially the lemon, and the strawberry cake. The staff has always been friendly, and the place clean. I usually prefer sitting out on the patio though. My only things are that I wish the patio had umbrellas or an awning as the direct sun gets annoying.
