Saw this place on TikTok and as a Chicago Native, I definitely had to try this place to taste their Italian beef. First, this place is great for getting all of your dinner needs. Fresh groceries, sauces, even frozen Italian dinners. Did I mention an incredible wine selection? I ordered the Italian beef to go and it was even better than Portillos ( the ones in Chicago, not here in tx). Definitely recommend this place!

This place is right across from our gym and only four minutes from the house, so we finally stopped in--and wow, it felt like stepping into old-school Italy. I swear I needed a leather jacket and a tracksuit to match the vibe. The place was packed, lines everywhere, and not a single person looked annoyed. Every aisle was stacked with straight-up Italian gold. The produce section alone had me hooked. Fresh vegetables, and the tomatoes actually smelled like tomatoes. Everything felt like it came straight from someone's backyard garden. They make their own pasta and their own sauce too. I grabbed a jar, cooked some spaghetti at home, and let me tell you... all I did was boil noodles and heat up the sauce, but it tasted like I had a chef hidden in my kitchen. Best sauce-and-spaghetti combo I've ever had. Jimmy's came through big time. Prices were fair and reasonable. We picked up deli meat, wine, champagne--and yeah, the gentleman handing out free mimosa samples totally won us over. Respect. If you've never been here, you absolutely need to stop by. This place is an experience.

Jimmy's is now a Saturday morning routine for us. We try to get there just after they open at nine, and the store is magical: it's filled with everything you could possibly want for Italian cooking. Some highlights: They have a garden that they harvest herbs from, and there is always fresh basil. Most of the time there are three or four other herbs there that are fresh, which makes it one step removed from having your own herb garden. They have two different kinds of guanciale: a domestic from Neiman ranch, and an imported. The imported is amazing. Their bread selection is incredible. I've enjoyed their Italian bread, three times, but today picked up two loaves of baguette, and I can't speak highly enough for the quality of the bread.

I finally made the pilgrimage to Jimmy's Italian store this weekend after hearing about it for what feels like a century. Honestly, I don't know what took me so long--probably sheer laziness, which I now deeply regret. The second you walk in, it feels like you've been teleported straight into an old-school East Coast Italian market. You half expect to see someone named Tony in the corner yelling about "the gravy" while slicing prosciutto. The shelves are packed with everything you could possibly want: pizza dough, Italian sausage, pepperoni, and about 400 things I didn't even know I needed until I saw them. And then there's the wine. Oh, the wine. Let's just say I went in for pizza ingredients and left feeling like I needed to call a ride home. Their vino selection is nothing short of incredible. You can also buy a glass of wine to sip as you walk around and shop. Bellissimo!!!! Of course, we couldn't leave without trying the sandwiches--and I'm glad we didn't. I went for the Italian meat sandwich, my wife had the turkey, and my son went all-in with the Cuban. Every single one was loaded, flavorful, and downright delicious. If you walk out of Jimmy's without grabbing a sandwich, you're doing it wrong. The real magic, though, happened when I got home. I fired up my Ooni pizza oven with the fresh ingredients from Jimmy's, and I kid you not--it was the best pizza I've ever made. Crispy crust, gooey cheese, spicy sausage, and just enough wine-fueled confidence to convince myself I might've been Italian in a past life. If you're in Dallas and craving a little slice of Italian heaven, Jimmy's is absolutely worth the trip. Just don't be surprised if you walk out with three bottles of Chianti, a bag full of pizza dough, and a sudden urge to start saying "mangia" at family dinners. Pro tip: Don't go hungry, or you'll end up buying half the store!!

Been many times and reviewed before Two recommendations to ownership: 1) Every time I'm there, an employee is using the Men's restroom so long I have to go into the Women's restroom. Please either add an employee only restroom or make them both Unisex - a simple sign change would do it. 2) There are so many people standing in the aisles to get sandwiches or other orders at the deli counter, that I just want to get out of there and I miss most of the items I want or need. Please have people wait in the tasting room in the back, cut out a pass-through window, have a "non-cash only" register, and let people walk out a door from there. They could even pay for a small number of items to alleviate traffic up front. Set up a coffee station back there and people will stay long enough to buy some. Right now it's so chaotic - even during "slow" hours. That's all. It's a great shop and I love visiting the store and seeing the old neighborhood revitalized.

So in Dallas we have an old school Italian grocery store that dates back to the early '50s that makes me feel like I'm back in Little Italy.... Which is rare in the state of Texas. Jimmy's has all the hard to find Italian products and authentic sausages that takes me back to my grandparents day. I drive here from Houston just to pick up the sausages so I could cook it for the family for the holidays. And of course I pick up the other items that I don't find readily in Houston. They also have great sandwiches espresso which completes the experience. For me, definitely worth the drive and it's always fun visiting Dallas again.

I FINALLY stopped by Jimmy's today after saying I'm going to do so for at least 15years and boy am I kicking myself. I loved this place!! Reminds me of a neighborhood store I'd see when visiting my Uncle in Chicago. We need more places like this here. Given it's in Dallas, I was grateful to have street parking right infront of the store. I went around 1pm on a Tuesday. I imagine it would be harder to find spot on weekend or after the Cafe nextdoor opens at 5pm. The place is crowded and packed full of so many great things! A small fresh produce section. A freezer section with balls pizza dough ($1.27-2.75ea), precooked dough, ice cream, meatballs, lasagnas, pizzas, several types of ravioli, & other specialty items. A refrigerated section with beverages, cheeses, pastas ($6.99ea), sauces & other specialty items. They have a large wine section. You can even purchase wine to sip while you shop at the front register. There is a butcher & deli counter with all kinds of goods. The rest of the store is packed with other reasonably priced staple & specialty items. They offer sandwiches & salads that you can order at the deli counter in the back. You pay for everything up front. It took about 12mins to get our sandwiches. You can also call in orders ahead for pickup. We ate: 6" MUFFULETTA (6" $10.99 or 9" $19.99) Mortadella, Ham, Provolone, Genoa Salami, Olive Salad on this deliciously slightly buttery bread. I could only eat half. Loved the flavors and appreciated the meat to bread ratio!! MEATBALL SUB - ($9.99) Excellent Toasted 6″ Bun with Marinara, Mozzarella, Sweet Peppers and Onion. Meatballs were AMAZING. We will be bringing some home next time! I highly recommend you check this place out. It's crowded (I wouldn't bring smaller kids for this reason - at least during busy times). If you lean towards claustrophobia in smaller crowded places, just take some deep breaths and focus on all the great things in there. Everyone was very polite navigating around each other. There is no place to eat there.

    Cannoli

Yesterday I stopped by Jimmy's to grab some lunch, it was my first time going here despite living in Dallas for so long! I ordered the Italian beef and a cannoli and I want to say it took around 15 minutes to come out! The Italian beef sandwich was great, I enjoyed the giardiniera. The cannoli was delicious, I will try the chocolate one the next time I visit. It seems like when I got there most of the people standing around were waiting for their order so it can get a little confusing seeing who was in line or not for someone who has not been here before. They seem to have nailed the efficiency in getting orders so chances are the people waiting around have already gotten their orders taken. This place is also a little grocery store and there was a mix of people actually grocery shopping and grabbing a quick lunch when I was there. You place your order in the back of the store where the deli is or you can call ahead and order for pick up. There is some parking around the store itself and I had no problem getting a parking spot right outside of the store. There are constantly people going in and out so I imagine you wouldn't have to wait too long to find a spot. Overall, I am glad I finally got to visit Jimmy's. I will definitely be back to try their other sandwiches and to get fresh ingredients for cooking.

Meatball sub brought it home and stuck in air fryer for 4 min to crisp it up. It's so good.

Decided to try this place based on a recommendation and I'm not disappointed at all. It's very busy. And no inside or outside seating. The sandwiches are amazing. The grocery items are amazing. Great finds. Can't wait to come back and try so many more things.

I had a great experience getting food from Jimmy's. I got the calabrese panino which was fantastic and much bigger than expected. It was flavored well and the bread was nicely toasted making it exactly what I hoped for. Despite multiple people being there, the sandwich was prepared quickly and I enjoyed walking around the store while waiting. I also got a cannoli which was delicious. It wasn't too sweet or rich making it a very enjoyable dessert. Overall, I had a fantastic experience here and would definitely return for another sandwich. I'm also eager to try their selection of meats, cheeses, and wines.

    Meatball Sub

Awesome Italian food store located in the Old East part of Dallas. Gives a true Italian vibe from the second you walk in. The service is always great and the staff is always friendly. They do get busy depending on when you go, so sometimes service isn't as good as other times, but it's only because of how busy they get. This place also serves as an Italian grocery store that has plenty of options to pick from, including their wine selection. I usually come here for the meatball sub, which is great, but you can't go wrong when picking from their menu. Overall, this place is a must try for anyone in the Dallas area, especially if you live nearby!

Pork and broccolini rabe sandwich... order this
    Amy W.

I've had this place bookmarked for what feels like forever. The legend of their broccoli rabe and pork sausage drew me in, but let's not forget the hype about their Italian sandwiches. As a certified sandwich enthusiast, I had to check it out. So, off we went on a Sunday afternoon--which, in hindsight, wasn't my brightest idea. The place was packed. That said, the service at the deli counter was like an Olympic relay team. Lightning fast. I ordered the Philly Roast Pork Sandwich with broccoli rabe and red peppers (dipped in au jus, of course), and let me tell you--WOW. This was a sandwich that could convert even the staunchest carb-hater. A truly spiritual experience. AND TO GO only - so get ready to devour the sandwiches in your car with a bib! Hubbs went for the muffuletta, which could easily feed a small family. And because I couldn't resist, I snagged the last lonely broccoli rabe and pork sausage to cook at home later. Grilled it up a few days after, and yep, it was every bit as incredible as I hoped. The shop also has a treasure trove of authentic Italian specialties--condiments, desserts, and even pignoli cookies. If you love Italian food or just great sandwiches, this is the spot. Pro tip: go on a weekday, unless you enjoy a crowd!

When will they start serving hot sandwiches? When will indoor and outdoor dining on premises reopen?…

We hope to have some of our hot sandwiches soon. The indoor and outside seating will not return for quite some time.

How are they operating during covid?

Is this a take-out only place or are there tables available to eat-in?

There are a few bistro tables up front and a dining area in the back. (Walk through the butcher area.). However sometimes those are being used. Would recommend eating anything there other than sandwiches and maybe cannolis.

Any baked goods? Cakes or pies?

Thanks for your question - we don't have any housemade cakes or pies. We do make cannolis and sometimes we do have housemade cookies. We carry a large variety of packaged cookies from a couple vendors. Thanks!

Anyone know if they sell empty cannoli shells?

Yes. They carry large and small. They are typically from Farraras in NY

Our evening started with a cocktail hour, during which we got to meet other guests over a glass of Roots & Water cabernet. We loved the cab - light and elegant. Once we were seated, we started with a glass of champagne with east coast oysters. For each course, one of the chefs came out to explain the dish and the inspiration behind it. Chef Adrien explained to us that he and Mollie had curated a menu of aphrodisiacs for Valentine's, and the oyster was prepared in a way that brought out ocean feels. We definitely tasted, felt the ocean waves with the soft red beet foam atop the oyster! Our favorite course of the menu was the soup/pasta dish - fideo noodles with tomato saffron brodo, generous pieces of lobster, and crispy leeks. I'm usually not a fan of tomato-based sauces, but this soup was SO delicious! Not too salty, not too powerful in taste, just right. The noodles were done al dente, with a slightly firm texture in every bite. And the lobster pieces were so soft! We devoured every bite of the entire meal, but we ultimately agreed this course stood out the most! The main was definitely a hit, too! It was braised Texas wagyu with root veg puree, herb emulsion, mushroom, and lots of truffle! We loved the strong flavors of the wagyu paired with the puree - so soft, so fluffy, subtle in taste. And the red that went with it *chef's kiss* We were also impressed with the potato dish - ambrosia fingerling potato with duck fat, burnt crema on top with caviar, ikura, trout roe. Who woulda thought caviar and roe go well with potato! And the crema to balance out all the flavors. We liked how the potato was sliced into perfectly thin pieces for each bite. For the dessert, the panna cotta was paired with a white wine, which we appreciated, as we're not big fans of port/dessert wines. We liked the balance in flavors with the sweet-citrusy taste of the panna cotta and the refreshing white. All in all, I could feel every ounce of attention and love poured into every dish, and we were very, very happy campers by the end of our dinner experience. Thank you to Roots & Water for hosting, as well as the chefs and sommeliers for curating an all-around beautiful experience. We hope to be back soon for some wine tastings!
