This place has been my favorite for burgers since 1995. Their food is reasonably priced and absolutely delicious!!!! A few years ago they moved across the street to their new location (used to be a bookstore) which I like. It is more spacious and there are more tables to eat at. The boyfriend and I were visiting Dallas, and our first day there took a walk down the gayborhood. We picked this place at random and were not disappointed. I had a burger, fries, and soda, whereas he got the veggie burger, fruit, and a margarita. Our total bill was around $20(usually cheap places have fast-food quality meals), but the food was delicious. We tried some of each other's items and were very pleased. Hunky's and Jake's are my two favorite hamburger places in the area. But Hunky's just got a MAJOR leg-up with their recent move to the opposite corner of Cedar Springs. The new place doesn't have the old "smell" (not bad, just noticeable) and both the lighting and sound is MUCH better in the new location! This location now rivals their other location in Oak Cliff. My family and I went here on our trip to Dallas. Though it was hard to find and parking was difficult, the food was delicious!!! My brother and I had burgers and they were among our favorites. I had taster tots and they were tasty. My mom had frito pie. She said the Fritos were nice and crunchy and the chili was flavored well. She would recommend it to chili lovers. Went in during lunch and female cashier took my order . I specifically asked for a hot deal special (burger,fries,drink) and a small zucchini. Cashier repeated my order. When waiter brought my order out and I had no fries. I then asked for the missing fries and the waiter said he would take care of it. The Manager then approached me and stated I was not charged for fry but zucchini substituted and that If i wanted fries I would have to pay for them. He Wanted me to get back in a long line to pay for the mistake of the cashier entering my order incorrectly. When I expressed my frustration as it was not my fault he told me "well if you don't want them that's fine too". He never apologized for the mix up only stated "well it's cause we're busy" as the excuse. This is not great customer service , why should I have to stand in a long line to pay for fries that were to be included, this was the cashiers mistake on not entering order correctly. Anywhere else would have apologized and just given the fries to keep the customer happy and returning. This has made me not want to return to Hunky's which is sad because I often visit as I work in the surrounding area. read more

I ordered from them through GrubHub on Thursday. I ordered the chicken finger basket and added some bacon (why not?). What I received was a chicken fried steak sandwich. And trust me, it wasn't as tasty as that sounds. It was exactly like those awful steak fingers you got at your elementary school cafeteria except made into one patty. The bun was completely smushed. Our church (A GLBT Affirming Pentecostal ministry) meets at Hunky's every Tuesday night for Fellowship. We have done this now for a couple of years. The people at Hunky's (including the owner himself) are EXTREMELY hospitable and accomodating! The food is very good. It is not the cheapest burger you can buy, but you are in the heart of Oak Lawn and it costs a fortune to run a business in that area. The ambiance is 1950's Soda Shop. Two large screen TV's keep you abreast of the news. Music ranges from oldies to club favorites, depending on what night you are there. We genuinely enjoy Hunky's very much. The manager, Chris, is one of the best managers of any restaurant I have ever encountered! That man does his job beautifully. We are very pleased with our relationship with Hunkys! read more

The location has a good atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. The only problem I had was they forgot the gravy on one of my orders(it was extra for the gravy) and on one the meat was way too red like almost raw but 2 out of six isn't bad. Reasonable prices and great service. I've only gotten food to-go. Since I don't eat beef they are great because I can substitute a turkey party on any sandwich or build my own. The first time I had Hunky's I was literally shocked at how good the burger was, nothing fancy but burger was juicy, the bun fresh and the fries hot and a bit crispy. Unfortunately the last time I went the burger seemed like it wasn't as fresh and my fries were a bit soggy. It was during the lunch rush hour so maybe it was so much going on they just couldn't give my burger the love it needed. This place hits the mark for a great Burger! I had the mushroom Swiss burger combo. The burger itself was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. I will say there is a level of greasiness to the burger but I prefer it that way. The unsung star is the CAKES!! They are the made from scratch, layered southern style deliciousness that reminds me of my aunts cakes! The chocolate it hands down the best! The cake itself is super moist, has a nice crumb to it, and has chocolate chips in it! The frosting is not overly sweet at all and has a hint of coffee flavor. The lemon cake is perfection cake is moist and has a great lemon flavor. The frosting is a cream cheese frosting that is a fabulous highlight to the cake. Oh we had the fried mushrooms....warning let these cool a few minutes before eating or risk a 2nd degree burn...lol.. They are really good and satisfying. The service is top notch and genuine. We went here after our brunch date for drinks and bingo on 6-22-2014 with some friends of our that are on the local softball team. It reminded me of Johnny Rockets on the inside. I loved the decor and the people running it. very kind and courteous. The have a line of cakes on the counter when you walk in and a Delicious cheesecake brownie that I simply could not resist. I will say the service was great, but how can you consider yourself a burger restaurant when you serve frozen veggie patty's you can purchase from the freezer section at the grocery store? I was introduced to Hunky's by my partner on one of our forays into the gayborhood. I have to say, I was really happy I was! The burgers are taaaaaasty, and I like their fries, too. I usually get the mushroom and swiss, where-as my partner gets either some specialty concoction of his own design or the Texas burger. He tends to get a strawberry shake (made with Blue Bell!) and I've had some - they're good. They carry Coke Zero, which makes me really happy. And some day, SOME DAY, I will have enough room after lunch to tackle one of the slices of cake from the gorgeous display taunting me from the front counter.
