In April 2020, our 2-year old Hungarian Vizsla attended the 3-week training retreat at Hunter Canine. Naturally, my wife and I had anxiety about leaving our dog somewhere for three weeks. In the end, the entire experience from start to finish could not have been better and was absolutely first class. Our dog was struggling with anxiety and basic obedience issues. We had already attended the basic obedience class at Hunter Canine and saw improvement, but still needed help. We spent time discussing exactly what we wanted the trainers to work on during the three weeks and the team clearly listened and took note of our wishes. At week two, they spent time showing us the improvements made and how best to keep training our dog to reach full potential. They did the same when we went to pick him up. Allie was our trainer and was excellent. She was great with our dog and so helpful teaching my wife and me how to continue the training. She is knowledgable, kind, pleasant and communicates really well. The facility is top notch. It is a very safe and controlled place to leave your dog. During all three visits, I was able to see how they were training other dogs and the diligence staff took to keep the grounds clean and safe. We were slightly concerned about the warm Arizona temperatures, but the facility is equipped with special cooling technology which keeps the training areas extremely comfortable for dogs, trainers, and owners alike. All in all, we could not have asked for a better experience and are thrilled with the results we are seeing with our little guy. We look forward to attending follow-up classes, enrolling in the intermediate class later this fall, and I know will leave our dog there for boarding when out of town. We are truly blessed to have Hunter Canine in Arizona. Great experience with our golden retriever at Hunter Canine. Moving up to the next level

Soon, we begin our new puppy's first obedience class and we'll use Hunter Canine for many of his classes. Did the snake avoidance here, also. He's five months-old and a Spinone Italiano. (He weighs 60 lbs.!) He begins showing in June. As we have been in dogs for many years -- twenty with bloodhounds -- a puppy raiser family for GSD assistance and our pet boxers -- you know of many facilities in the Valley, we've used several of them with good instruction and I'll admit I like the convenience because we live in Cave Creek and the groomed, spacious grassy grounds exist to have more than one class occurring at the same time. On the same road is a facility that nearly took the life of one of our boxers in his short, I believe 3-night stay with his "brother," the bichon. Our healthy, fit dog lost ten lbs. in those days and never fully recovered as he became a pill machine at an outrageous cost . . . for years. Pneumonia when picked up, then seizures began and the loss of most of his fur. I got one or two follow-up calls because they probably guessed I might take legal action. We don't do that, but we remember. Just as dogs remember. Again, it is refreshing to have a choice and we look forward to our future classes mingling with the other dogs, owners and guiding a path for our new pup. read more

I have been meaning to write this review. My dog Sparky went for three week training at Hunter Canine last November. Before Sparky went to camp Sparky would pulled you when walking, jump when people came to the door and would not come back to me if I called him. After three weeks, Sparky came home well behaved. He didn't pull, or jump and he comes back to me when I call him. Everywhere I go with Sparky, everyone is so impress with behavior. It is the best investment for your dog. My daughters and I rescued an 8-month old American Bully/Amstaff from Halo; yes, a Pitbull type dog. Roxie has been a bundle of happy, fun-loving energy since the day we adopted her. Unfortunately she loves to jump on everyone for hugs and kisses; not such a good idea for a 60 pound puppy. We also understood that many people have negative stereotypes for pit-bull type dogs, so we wanted to start training immediately for Roxie. We enrolled in the basic obedience class followed by the canine good citizen class. Wow, Lindsay and Katie we not only amazing with Roxie, but also with us, her handlers. Both women were professional, positive and encouraging to both Roxie and my daughters. Additionally, the entire facility was immaculately maintained. We have been attending training at Hunter Canine for over five years with our two Belgian Malinois. We have attended all of the obedience classes, the dock diving classes, the canine good citizen class and the agility class. We recently sent our two year old Belgian Malinios, Jethro, to the three week in facility training camp. Our main trainer was Storm, assisted by Karen, were absolutely great. Brought my 18 month old AmStat mix to Hunter Canine and the results were amazing. In three weeks time my dog went from a serious behavioral problem to a well disciplined pet. Hunter Canine is amazing at what they do. Impeccably maintained facilities, professional staff, excellent training. Everything you would want in a professional training facility. There are many wonderful training facilities and trainers in the area, and it came down to finding the right fit for us, and we felt Hunter Canine was the best fit for us. We enrolled our puppy in the 3 week training retreat/camp to learn basic obedience and manners. She was already a wonderful puppy with a sweet temperament. However, we wanted to give her a great foundation because we know all too well from raising other dogs in the past how easy it is for cute puppy behavior to turn into bad habits down the road that end up being a nuisance or problems, especially if you don't have the time/skills to properly train them. We missed her every day during the 3 weeks and looked forward to the weekly 1 hour visits when we got to see her progress and to also participate in the training, where we learned how to walk and direct her in basic skills. We learned how to reinforce and handle her so that we can continue to build upon the training she received. On the day we picked her up, we brought our daughter and Chad spent some time with her too, showing her how to interact with the puppy in a way where they both respect each other. The lesson was very helpful and we are reinforcing the training at home with the puppy and our little girl, and ourselves. The biggest challenge is to be persistent and consistent with the training at home. We are going to try our best. It's day 2 at home, and we are all adjusting well. She is still the same sweet puppy, but less hyper and not as easily excitable. She grew while she was away, physically and mentally. Before we found Hunter Canine, we used another training facility with great success. However, when we finally moved closer to the area and went back we stopped by to look into them again (this time for our new female) the overall atmosphere didn't feel right for us anymore - the facility had such high turnover, no one remained who we remembered and we felt we had outgrown those who were left. Hunter Canine was highly recommended to us by friends who were just starting the Board and Train program with their malinois. Chad is the Training Director and Andrew is the Head Trainer - Hunter Canine has a small number of people involved with the training, every person knows every dog. When our two dobermans (five year old male and 1.5 old female) started getting into it after we moved, we decided to send our female (Zin) to Hunter's three week training retreat. During the three weeks of training Zin had at Hunter Canine, I was so impressed with the training programs, I decided to sign two of my other dogs up for Basic Obedience classes. The training retreat option for Zin was the best fit for her and our pack. The facility at Hunter Canine is top notch. Instead of being crated all day, the dogs are in larger areas with other dogs (as their personalities allow). They do eat and sleep in airline crates, and the rest of their time is spent in training, or relaxed with other dogs. In three weeks, Hunter was able to train Zin with basic commands, but more importantly, trained her to really *listen* and pay attention to her handler. During the same time Zin was in training, Chad was also preparing us to bring Zin home, and be ready to be consistent to keep up her training. Chad explained - if we wanted to bring Zin home and have her listen to us as well as she did the staff at Hunter, we needed to be willing to continue to work with her. Hunter wasn't training her to be a well trained dog the rest of her life - they gave her an amazing foundation and then showed us how to continue her training at home. While it's taken hard work at home too, it's also worked amazingly well, even when her adrenaline gets up, she listens to us instead of ignoring us. Zin is signed up for the next set of classes and until they start the follow up retreat classes with Andrew were a perfect refresher for her, and a chance to practice with other dogs/distractions around. I also put two of my other dogs through Basic Obedience class at Hunter. Da'shain, my 7 year old male standard poodle, behaved well enough at home, however the exposure around other dogs, and learning more formal behaviors was good for him. I also brought my snarky male doberman another night, Dred has already been to training camp at a different facility a few years ago but I brought him anyway because he *loves* to work, needs the exposure around other dogs, and I'm hoping to take him through Intermediate classes next. Chad was our instructor and the classes were everything I expected and more. The classes showed me how to teach my dogs, and every week was practice with new homework being sent home with us. The classes are very much a group class, I did not feel like an individual among many people. Chad also took time every week to patiently answer questions and help everyone in class. The 8 weeks helped me get comfortable having Dred around other dogs. When I'm relaxed, Dred is more relaxed. I'm on the waiting list for Zin for swimming/dock diving lessons starting next month and I can't wait! Then intermediate and Canine Good Citizens classes in the fall. Hunters Canine is the best! Our boxer had such high energy we just knew we needed a lot of help! A year later he is the best companion and the most fun family member! Highly recommend Hunter Canine. Adopting a dog that we later found out was deaf, was terrifying. For example, one time he darted out the front door and I had no way of calling him back. It was unpleasant for all of us. Then I felt there was no way to communicate with him - a stray who never had training, free roam for an unknown amount of time and no rules. We felt insecure as owners and he didn't have a sense of purpose. A huge thank you to Storm, Chad and team at Hunter Canine. After a four week training program Ranger is focused, secure and we communicate in sign language. We found his love language is affirmation (not food!) and he loves having tasks. Their patience and knowledge has given us what we need to keep him safe and happy. Ranger is a 6-year old, deaf, intact male who many gave up hope on. We rescued a male Doberman at about 7 months old. We adopted him from a small Rescue after he had been found stray on a Canal in AZ. He was completely out of control, he had been returned by a number of adopters and none of the Rescue's Fosters would even keep him any more. I saw his picture on a Rescue website, expressed interest, the little Rescue responded they could bring him right over and they did. After about a week, I contacted the local Doberman Club and asked for help with my crazy, out of control Doberman. They recommended Hunter Canine. I called Hunter and after discussing our dog with Chad, we signed him up for Beginner Obedience Class. I did everything Chad told me to do in class and 7 years later, our Doberman is the best dog we've ever had. He still goes to Advanced Obedience Classes at Hunter just for fun, he loves to learn new things. People we pass on our daily walks consistently comment on how well behaved he is. I highly recommend Hunter Canine, their training helped us turn our Doberman around which probably saved his life since no one wanted him when he was so out of control at 7 months old. read more

Hunter Canine was recommended to me by a friend after meeting my large Rottweiler that was scared of his own shadow. I booked 3 weeks of training here and hoped for the best. Upon arrival I was very impressed with the Pristine facilities and very well-kept grounds. The staff was all incredibly nice and welcoming and gave me a tour of the whole place and explain exactly what and how it would be training my dog. I was brought back every week for a training demo where they explained exactly what they taught him and how I can apply it and worked through all of it with me. At the end of the 3 weeks, my dog had gained a lot of confidence in himself and was incredibly obedient. My 6 year old daughter can walk him off lead or down him with just verbal commands. Most importantly I don't have to worry about any aggression developing out of fear. The trainers and staff all genuinely care for the dogs and use gentle corrections so there is never any worry you dog is going to be harmed or slapped or whipped. With the training I also got a very high quality bed which they use for "place training" a nice leather leash and training collar. You will not be disappointed with Hunter Canine. read more

We cannot praise Hunter Canine enough! It's totally changed our relationship with our sweet girl, Marley. She was jumping, crying, and most of all, pulling so hard that I could hardly walk her. It was very hard to agree to leave her for the 3 weeks, but now we understand why. Catie, her trainer, was terrific and kept in constant contact with us via photos and text. She went out of her way to meet with us when it was convenient for us, and most of all, she was fabulous with the training. I can now take Marley with me out in public and it is a joy. Do NOT hesitate - this is the place! SO immaculate - I'm not sure we ever saw a speck of dog poop all the times we visited. I don't write many reviews, this experience justifies one. I will preface this review that I'd never met Chad previously nor do I know anyone who knows Chad directly. If you've ever thought about training your dog go to 'Hunter Canine'. We just picked up our Lab Penny from the 3 week training/board and the results are astonishing. They do not advertise and we heard by word of mouth from friends of friends who we've never met. Yet the facility is one of the most respected training academies in the K9 community after a little research. We are not dog show people or participate in any sort of dog competitions. We were merely looking for our 13 month old lab to learn basic manners with visitors and simple commands. We researched 4 other training facilities in the Phoenix area and you'll find they are dog boarding facilities that offer training. Hunter Canine is a TRAINING facility that has the capability to board. If all you need is boarding; go somewhere else. If you want your animal trained, talk to the owner Chad Hunter. The facility is immaculate and meticulously maintained. Not being a part of the K9 training community I don't know all the vernacular for the types of training they offer however Chad trains protection dogs for law enforcement, different obedience courses and competitions or in our case training our family Lab to be a polite and obedient playmate for us and our toddler. He incorporates training with the entire family and even included our 2 year old in our once weekly check up session for the family. When Chad is with you and your animal he is 100% focused on you and your dog, no cell phone checking, clock watching or chit chat. Its all about maximizing his time with you and your pet to achieve the best results. Chad is genuinely honest and kind with the highest respect for his clients and animals. Be advised as you drive to Hunter Canine you will pass another dog training business with a kitschy school bus out front. Chad Hunter is a serious life saver!!! I have a giant 11 month old cane corso who was getting very territorial and reactive. He was making me nervous, and I had no idea how to fix his behavior! I was terrified that he was going to bite someone, and that is a vicious cycle of my nerves worsening his behavior. We sent him to Chad for the 3 week course (which is SO well-priced!) and got back a new guy! His training is so comprehensive, it includes training there as well as loads of follow up. Chad & Andrew are just the best - these guys knows exactly what they are doing when it comes to dogs. They are helpful, very knowledgeable about so many things and any question you ask they have an answer. Yes the drive is kind of far, but that doesn't matter, what you get out of it for your dog is worth it 10 fold. I strongly recommend them to anyone for special training, even dogs with some emotional trauma, or just basic obedience. HeMi, our pitbull/border collie pound puppy, was enrolled at Hunter Canine for their 3-week course and 1 week e-collar training. I've waited about a month to write this review because I wanted to see how he did once he was away from the daily training ---- and whether it really "stuck". Admittedly, as owners, its our responsibility to take what they've learned and keep up the training....I'm happy to report, the training was absolutely worth it. He's great on a leash, listens to his commands and the training has made him a great dog. The trainers at Hunter are invested in ensuring your pup is successful...we can't say enough great things about Nicole!! Austin was a typical rambunctious Malinois. We got him as a rescue at about 18 months old and he had more energy and was always under your feet. We took him to see Andrew and Chad based on a recommendation from a friend. It was the best 3 week investment into Austin we could have ever done. Now Austin while he is still learning and still tests the boundaries, is a far better behaved dog. He sits, stays, heels, and goes to his bed (Place) when you tell him to. I am so pleased with the 3 week training camp for Cali my 3 year old blue heeler. She was getting out of control at home because she was obsessed with me and even growled at other family members when they were walking down the hall towards me. She also would get too excited when friends would come over and it's was a struggle to calm her down. She would not let up when she wanted to play and was very obnoxious about it. I am so thankful to Andrew, Chad and his trainers because she is a totally different dog in a good way. They have also trained us humans to better understand her and her needs. I have had dogs my entire life-sometimes 3 at a time-but never before have I felt so helpless as I did when we brought home a puppy to keep our grieving 2 year old dog company. As Andrew from Hunter Canine said, "It was like leaving 2 toddler children alone." Muffin forgot all of her manners and turned my home into a chaotic environment where a doorbell ring or neighbor walking by could turn my house into a dog fraternity party. The puppy was approaching ONE hand still not totally potty trained! The dogs ran away when a guest came to the door- and in Arizona, 2 small dogs are simply not safe outside at night.We tried another trainer, who made house calls, to no avail. After our friend's glowing recommendation-we signed our dogs up for the 3 week training camp. Within a week they had become better behaving animals who could literally let other dogs and humans parade by without distraction. Muffin was even used as a demonstration dog during one of the classes! They did snake training while they were there as well. We knew the importance of changing our own behaviors in order to have continued success- so our whole family attended one of the training sessions. The trainers are available for questions or concerns and additional training sessions and classes. We had adopted a puppy at 7 weeks old Aussie mix. She started showing signs of aggression towards certain dogs and people at about 7 months old. We did not want the liability if she would hurt one of our other dogs or a person. We enrolled her in the 3 weeks course . After just one week upon our first visit to see her progress we could not believe the change in her. She use to be very hyper active out of control and leash aggressive towards other dogs. She is calmer and stays put while other dogs walking by her. No pulling on the leash or wining. Well worth the investment. Andrew and the staff are doing an excellent job. read more

Hunter Canine is INCREDIBLE! Our dog just graduated and we could not be more pleased with the results. Chad and his team did an outstanding job. It was tough being away from our dog for three weeks, save the once a week visit, but now that our dog is home and the results are evident we are beyond happy to have sent her to Hunter Canine. When we came to pick her up Chad went over what to do and not to do with our daughter who is turning 5. What also impressed me was once our dog graduated there was a free Monday evening lesson/refresher class to make sure your dog continues on the the correct path. At this evening class there were over 20 people and the trainers knew all the dogs by name. Two of the trainers who I never met came up to our dog, petted her and called her by her name and asked how she is doing. That showed me how dedicated the instructors are to each dog.
