I had the recommendation to grab a bite here when I was in town from a few people, and to stop by Greene's by some others. Hunter House was the better of the two for me on this day. The buildings that house both Hunter house, and Greene's almost look identical, as do the small counters, griddles up front. Quick, friendly service, quick friendly food delivery, I would easily go back!

Hunter House doesn't really need a review but my husband and I are going around to the different slider places to try and compare. Starting with Hunter House probably set the bar really high. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing with great service. Hopefully things will be just as good in their new location.

My husband & I have frequented Woodward for years & we occasionally stop in Hunter House to grab some food. We were at home & decided to drive down for some burgers. They are in the process of opening their new location, so the inside is not open yet. There's a heated white tent out front where they take your order & then someone brings your food into the tent once it's ready. They do have 2 pretty big picnic style tables in there as well. We had our 5.5 month old with us, so we decided to stay in the tent & eat. My husband ordered their double cheeseburger with no onions & a vanilla shake, I ordered the Robcat Burger & then we both got an order of Mals Pals. The food came out pretty quickly & was good. I only gave 4 stars because I do feel like the burgers are priced a little higher than they should be when compared to places like Teleway which is basically the same food but cheaper. Overall, Hunter House is always a solid choice when cruising Woodward!

The best of the best sliders ever! My fav place to eat after a night out or any night for that matter. Service is quick and I love sitting at the counter facing Woodward to stare at people and cars going by. Can't go wrong with 2 double doubles and fries. Unless you're eating with more than 3 people, a small fry is sufficient. Whoever ate 5 whole onions on one burger... wtf is wrong with you but yum either way

Classic, comfortable, and affordable Driving up to Hunter House, you get the feel of nostalgia. Quaint parking lot, all white building, and billowing smoke mixed with that unmistakable aroma of burgers on the grill. The inside looks almost unchanged from the '50s with the stainless steel lunch counter-tops, spinning stools, and open concept so you could see the magic happen. The staff had great comradery and chatter behind the counter making it a jovial and lively feel. Meanwhile, a constant stream of patrons, young and old, came by both the walk-up to-go window and dine-in options to feast. The burgers themselves: Excellent. Great cheese melt. The buns are not too cakey and absorb the grease without becoming the central part of the eating. And the burger was steeped in the grease of the hundred or so patties that came before it- all of this culminating in a scrumptious and pleasant experience.

    Current Hunter House location.

Hunter House moved into the KFC location half-mile down the road and their tasty burgers just dropped from a 5-star to 1-star. DISAPPOINTING. Burgers are not wrapped individudally, they're place in a styrofoam box along with fries that were not for the same person. Came home and had to separate the items and kids didn't eat their cuz the items they orded were mixed with their sibling's choices. HUNTER HOUSE IS NOT THE SAME : ( READ YOUR RECEIPT -- AUTOMATIC 20% TIP -- always tip and we ending up tipping 40% because of the chaos in the tent and the girl at table never pointed this out -- on top of the not-same-Hunter-House-food -- just an insult after injury -- first it stung but then realized the kids that are working there deserve it :)

Was in the area and figured stop in and get a couple sliders, chili fries and a strawberry shake. The sliders were good as usual nicely grilled onions and crisp pickles on the side. The chili fries were fantastic, fries were not soggy and the chili was not spicy at all but very good. The shake was good nice creamy. Friendly hard working staff. Was very busy and they were on top of everything. The place was clean for how busy they were.

Shameful double cheese burger and 20 mins after i ordered they asked if i wanted grilled or raw onions. Must of been their first day

I used to walk into Hunter House and feel the spirit of burger greatness wash over me--grease in the air, onions sizzling, the kind of ambiance that whispered, "Your cardiologist will judge you, but it's worth it." But after the move? Buddy... that spirit didn't move with them. It stayed behind like a confused house cat waiting by the old door. The new location feels like someone tried to rebuild the original from memory after getting bonked on the head with a frozen patty. The burgers taste like they're homesick. The grill looks like it misses its old ZIP code. Even the onions seem depressed--like they know they once had a purpose and now they're just... sautéed nostalgia. I'll still stop by when I'm in the neighborhood--just to pay my respects.

    That's the cheeseburger

The shake was the standout of my order; however, the burger was quite disappointing, with barely any meat at all. The frozen string fries were labeled as a large size, but they certainly didn't seem like it and were served cold. I'm honestly surprised this place has managed to stay in business for so long with such low standards. If you want to keep customers, it's time to add some actual meat to your smash burgers!

    Awesome, old school vibe!

I was in Birmingham for work and was asking around for a quick and delicious lunch. A FedEx employee overheard me and immediately said "hunter house". The sheer level of confidence gave me no choice. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised when I got there. Super small dinner style smash burgers with a line outside on a Tuesday! I got two smash burgers with bacon, some fries, and a coke... the staff was amazing, the food was good, and the price was even better - $11!!! Definitely worth a stop if you are in Birmingham, MI!

My matcha latte was pretty mid -- not a coffee shop so I wouldn't necessarily expect anything incredible but it could have been hotter, at least. The frittata was very good and a generous portion -- I took part of it home for later. The pistachio pesto sauce really adds to it. I'd return to try more of their brunch menu (or others) without complaint -- why not!?

I do want to start with some thoughts before I give the highlights. We were charged a percent for using a credit card. I cannot speak to the in-person menu, but I combed the online menu and it did not mention that. We were also charged for ranch. Most places do not do that, and we were not informed there would be an upcharge. Most places allow you a sauce to go with fries. Also, for my meal, there is an image of an extra sauce which it did not come with, but we were charged for two small portions of ranch. Last, the server was just okay. I always enthusiastically ask questions to get to know more about a place. I asked if they had any other fruity drinks. She pointed to the drink menu and indicated just the Paloma. I said, but you have a full bar, this is the only fruity drink you make? She did not want to ask the bar, but I asked her to. The bar apparently only came up with one other drink idea, which I ended up getting two drinks listed on the menu (both very good) but it seemed like work for her to go out of her way to inquire. I also bet they could have made many fruity drinks, like maybe a Mai Tai, or some equivalent. Oh well. On the other hand, the Paloma was actually very good. It was a quality Paloma and I do recommend. Their other drink was seasonal with lavender, also a very nice drink. Most of the other places, like Honcho, I have no problem with getting a variety of drinks or inquiring about them, and the bar tender here did a great job. I came here because I was targeted by an ad on Instagram. This place was not on my radar, but since they created a meal (Steak-frites) very similar to Le Relais in Paris and New York, etc... I wanted to try it. It came with bottomless parm fries. The fries were crispy, savory, and delightful. The steak was super well cooked and was like butter. You did not even need a knife, it cut with a fork. Since I love next day leftovers, the steak was still super delicious and tender the next day. It was still like butter and cut with a fork. I would absolutely come back for that and bring the rest of my family. We also tried the tri-tip sandwich. We were told the bread was made fresh. I thought it was very good and very tender. My husband would have liked an au jus or horseradish sauce. He would try the hamburger next, but I would love another steak-frites, like right now! We were sad the coffee and pastry section closed early. In the past, at Honcho, we would get coffee and pastry after dinner since their coffee tends to be really good and quality. I would consider coming for brunch to try some. We talked to a gentleman who was part of the business as he was working hard. He was very kind and knowledgeable and took the time to hear our thoughts. I told him I was here for the steak. He thought I had a "but". I did not, it was great and I hope they can maintain that price point and the second serving of fries, because that was my main reason for visiting. He let us know the menu recently changed. I am not able to compare since this was my first time, but I liked that they had a steak dinner and pizza. If we come back my oldest loves this group's pizza, she gets it at Vinsetta, and this one looked very good.

I've tried this place three different times and ALL three times I had an issue. It was a waste of my gas to drive to Sidecar in Birmingham to eat and everything was a disaster from the moment I was seated. I have passed by Sidecar in Birmingham so many times, and strolled past it more occasions than I can count. I have always avoided the place because there is always someone inside of it who is racist and anything but professional. This corniest thing about management here is that it seems to train workers to only like it when whites sit at their eatery. Be sure to hold onto to a copy of your receipt if you wish to be refunded for the unpleasant blah-slop they will serve you. The food here looked like someone sat on it when I bought it, and it was flavorless from started to finish. Honestly, I was skeptical about coming here based on reviews and I wish I had listened to the complaints. One waitress was apologetic to me when I came back to complain, so sad for her because she was not the owner of this dump who has the personality of a headless turkey. The food is worth only one star, but I would give it zero if I could. I'd recommend just going to Applebee's instead of Sidecar and maybe the place that Sidecar is holding can be repurposed into some type of mixed-use community hub to breathe new life into Birmingham once it gets shut down. - Oakley

Thankfully, the hostess told us about their basement bar area where you can grab drinks and snacks while waiting.
