We also had a spicy jalapeno shot that was not too strong but really good with a good bite. There's a drink called Tony Fresca with the spicy jalapeno shot but it has Topochico added. This drink did an injustice to the shot with too much Topochico. They have a food truck outside and it is all seafood. My wife is allergic so we did not try it. However I would definitely come back for the vibe.

The bar was buzzing with energy, cocktails flowing, close friends laughing, and yes... karaoke in full swing. One of the best surprises of the night? Running into Stephanie behind the bar. She's one of those bartenders who makes everything feel easy and fun. We ordered Mexican Martinis made with top-shelf tequila (Stephanie hyped it up as an award-winning drink and she wasn't wrong!). I also tried the Melon Margarita, which was super refreshing. The space itself has gotten some upgrades since my last visit--both inside and out. They mentioned this was actually one of their last nights open before closing for a two-week remodel. They're adding a garage door to open up the patio to the inside, and I'm already excited to see how that transforms the vibe. Later in the evening, we ended up enjoying a few cigars on the patio/lounge side, which honestly pairs really well with the chill, open-air setup. We were greeted at the door by security who checked me (husband) for weapons and contraband. Doing his job . We went in and found the hair who showed us your table ( wasn't too busy at 9 pm) . The show started at 830 promptly so we missed some. The performance was top notch as the band sounded great and the singer has great vocals. He sang a variety of songs from John Legend, Marvin Gay, and other classics. Did them all justice . We got some chicken from the food truck outside and it was pretty dang good . Not too expensive but not cheap either. We ordered drinks from the bar (great pours). I ordered a whiskey and rocks and she had vodka and cranberry. They were serving in plastic cups but gave me glass for some reason and I had to leave my ID to keep the glass. Guess people steel glasses. We enjoyed the show that lasted till 11 or so and then a DJ ramped up to finish the night. That's when a different crowd started entering and the building got quite a bit busier. Walking into Slow Ride is like walking into your tio's (uncle) or a grandpa's cool, 70's/80;s vibey, and home-y bar. This is the kind of spot where every picture you take of yourself, or your friends, will look like you took it in the 80's! This is not a bad thing either. Seriously. It IS A VIBE here! Cushy seats at the bar was my favorite spot to hang out while we had some cold beers and a shot to go alongside it too. They have beer and shot combos here around $8. You get plenty of choices on beer and liquor of choice. I opted for a tallboy Lonestar and a small shot of the Mexican Candy. My sister got a Live Oak Hefe in a can (she likes Blue Moon so this was the closest thing to it and she liked it!) and later a Shiner in a bottle. I also decided to close out with a daiquiri that was super delicious and offered in nice glassware. Patio out in the back is spacious and a great spot to hang out with a group of friends. The back space is taken care of and has a modern look to it out there. I can see it being a nice vibe outside on a pretty day too. Jukebox is legit! All great music selections from all genres on CDs and pretty cheap too to play 5-8 songs. The artwork around here is worth a look around too. I love all the unique Garfield toys surrounding the bar area too. All of the back bar is so great with the wooden shelving and lighting too. You can see many honorable nods to those who currently or have served. It's a great thing to see especially so close to Sam Houston. One thing I have a pet peeve on is any service bar who has to keep my card on file. I am the worst person who won't remember so I have to be extra careful when bars keep my card. I usually walk and don't mind paying the 20+% tab walk fee but I do want my card back so I have to get everyone who is with me to remind me to go get it. That's why I am giving it 4 stars. I am looking forward to coming back in the future and bringing some more family and friends, though. This spot is so nostalgic and their social is super active and will promote DJs and sets happening that week and into the weekend. Go check them out and play some pool.
