If you're looking for a classy southern meal in downtown Savannah, look no further than Husk. This restaurant was recommended to us by the American Express concierge, so we reserved. Husk is unique because every day, the menu changes based on what's available in the area and what is in season. We were looking forward to seeing the menu on the day we dined! For an appetizer, we ordered a couple of raw oysters and a side of biscuits. My boyfriend loved the oysters and the biscuits were to die for. We both ordered the bass for our meal and were satisfied with flavor. Our server was very helpful and kind and not to mention, the food came fast. Solid dinner last night for my first Husk experience at any of their locations. I started with their selection of raw oysters, followed that with the Wreckfish Tartare (which was my favorite dish of the night), and finished with the Florida Tilefish entree, which I really only ordered for the Carolina Rice that came with the dish. The Carolina Rice was delicious! I read that it is a grain from Africa and S. Carolina is the only place that grows the grain in the states. The tile fish fell short of expectations on flavor and texture. I asked for the Beurre Blanc on the side because of my lactose intolerance. I added a bit to the fish. I don't think I would have enjoyed it more with the full serving. The Wreckfish tartare is made with strawberries, which I think really elevated it. It was so good and paired well with the Daq Black cocktail, which wasn't planned. I just with the tartare had a vessle to eat it with, like toast points, crackers, or some form of corn chips. The oysters were good. I ordered three of the Salt Bombs because they are so rare to find here, and they may have been my least favorite. The Square Root cocktail is brilliant! It is made with carrot, aloe, green chile, cilantro, and a Plantation rum blend. It hits on all 5 taste senses! The Daq Black was smoky, likely from the Mezcal, and the Gringo Suave was also good, but the Square Root was the star cocktail. Cody was my bartender and took great care of me. I finally made it to Husk! I heard wonderful things about Husk in Charleston, so was stoked to learn that there was a Husk location in Savannah. Immediately, I made reservations and was only able to snag a dinner spot for three at 8:30 on a Friday a week out. Make reservations ASAP for an ideal time and day if you wanna dine here. It's a popular spot, all for good reason. Husk is located in an old Georgian house in the historic district in Savannah, which I loved. It really felt like going to dinner at a friend's really nice house! Because of our reservation, we had a table ready for us on the upper level. Our server, Morgan was really friendly and helpful throughout our entire meal. The menu changes daily, depending on what ingredients are available, which is a good thing because you're getting the freshest and locally-sourced food. We had a bottle of the Carolina Sake, which we had to try! The Carolina Sake is exclusive to the area with a limited supply, so it was a treat to try this sake, made from South Carolina rice. For appetizers, we had local Georgia oysters, which had a fresh, pickled mignonette on top. For my entrée, I ordered the pork loin curry greens, which was delicious. The pork was perfectly looked with collard greens in a coconut curry sauce that elevated the meal. All in all, everything was fantastic as I expected it to be at Husk. This is the kind of restaurant where you can get anything on the menu and it will be superb. I enjoyed dining in a historic home where each of the rooms were set up for multiple parties. Wow, Wow, Morgan our waiter was excellent! And that food was outstanding and probably the best I've had this year (Feb 2024), so memorable that trout with blue crab velouté sauce, superb! Enjoyed brunch on the outdoor patio with two friends. As is typical for Husk the menu is limited but well-executed. The staff are friendly , warm, and well-versed in the menu. Those with dietary restrictions may find it difficult to eat here but if you are looking for a modern take on Southern comfort food, this spot is an excellent choice. Husk is an upscale dining experience with a menu that may not be suitable for those picky eaters, however if you appreciate food you may want to check this place out! We had to make a reservation well in advance before visiting, but were lucky to get in and sat upstairs in the main dining. It's located in a old home, so you get all the southern vibes inside. Their menu can change daily based on different offerings. We started off with cocktails and caviar. The caviar was served with mini cornbread pancakes, which was a fun touch. As a group we had brussels sports, Shrimp & Grits, Beet Salad, and the Prime Strip. All were delicious. What a terrific restaurant! Located in an old house, they have 2 floors of dining spaces. Some tables are located in small-ish dining rooms and some are in the main, large space that also contains the main bar area. From start to finish, the food was excellent. Had the pimento cheese, the salad greens, lowcountry oysters and shrimp and grits. Would recommend all of it. The best thing of all though was the "sampler of southern vegetables". This was 5 or 6 small bowls of various vegetarian dishes - grits with homemade hot sauce, collard greens, cucumbers in vinegar, smoky cabbage and a broccolini. Everything on that tray was so good!!! As a local, had heard of the place for years. Decided to take the wife to celebrate our anniversary. We were sat in the downstairs dining room which is like sitting in a funhouse room of mirrors. It was odd. As far as the food, they really missed the mark. Ordered the pimento cheese recommended by our server, but it never came. Biscuits were delicious but they ended up being the star of the show? Ordered the Bass and sadly everything else on the plate was very acidic for some reason and was not very good. The portion was tiny for the price. I guess fine dining huh? Collard greens had way too much vinegar. We barely ate them and the server didn't even question that. Wife's shrimp and grits were ok but she did comment that we could have went to numerous other place's and gotten a better version for less. Nothing remarkable about it. Service was slow, over 2 hours, and pretty inattentive. Overall it really enforced why we try to avoid eating downtown unless it's a staple. We first tried coming here on a week night only to be told that we needed a reservation if we were going to sit anywhere other than the bar. So we made a reservation the next day and were able to get one. The service was fine and ambiance nice. However, the food was just okay. Definitely not worth what we paid. Let's start with the main dish I had, the chicken. I was so disappointed with how dry it was. It was also sort of rubbery and this was after being told by our waiter that it would be the most tender chicken around. The vegetables also had very little flavor to it and there was no rice or mashed potatoes to help blunt some of these flavors (or the lack thereof). Although apparently they are farm to table, I just couldn't get over how inedible the chicken was. The chili crisp salad was fine, but it had the same flavors that it got boring to eat. With tip we paid almost $300 and so of course I'd expect an amazing meal. That's not what I got and I didn't finish not even half of my chicken plate. What I will say is, I came for brunch and that's probably not the move. Got three different items: biscuits, rabbit sausage, and the shrimp and grits. Favorite by far was the biscuits. I can honestly say with the gravy sauce, it was one of my favorite biscuits I've had. It's no wonder they do a sweet and savory version revolving around these biscuits. The shrimp and grits was pretty good and I liked their take of olive oil in the dish to give it a more refreshing hit that lightened it a bit. The inconsistency can be frustrating when fine dining, but I find their raw oysters and brunch to be consistent highlights. On a friends' recommendation we headed to Husk for brunch. Delicious! For starters, the Smoked Chicken Wings with Alabama White Sauce and Lemon Pepper wings were fall off the bone crispy, yet tender. The Alabama White Sauce wings were favored but both were finger lickin' good. The Country Breakfast Plate was very good with soft scrambled eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy, hash brown potato cake, fresh mandarins, and their made in-house, skillet fried bologna. The only complaint was the biscuit wasn't smother and covered with their yummy sausage gravy. My son thoroughly enjoyed the double patty cheeseburger with special sauce and shaved onions. The fries were forgettable. Husk changes their menu almost daily and touts being farm to table. You'll find creative cocktails, extensive liquor selection, and their craft beer selection is local and regional. We have been to Husk for brunch. This was the first time we've had dinner here. We were seated upstairs in the ballroom. The aesthetic is beautiful. Our service was friendly and informative. We had some delicious cocktails from the menu. I've attached pics of our various meals. We all enjoyed our meals. My husband ordered the strip steak and he wasn't 100% happy. We came to Husk for brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday and will be sure to eat here every time we come to Savannah from now on. It's that good. It's such a unique setting because it's a converted historic home with lots of interesting spaces and a beautiful mix of new and old decor. We were seated in one of the side rooms upstairs and it was perfect for our group to have an intimate setting to celebrate and enjoy each others company. Be sure to give yourself a little tour because all the spaces are worth a peek, especially the bar area in the back on the second floor. The menu rotates weekly based on what's locally available, which keeps things fresh and new. Most people our group ordered the breakfast platter, which was a delicious sampling of several different items, including a biscuit. My husband and I had a nice dinner at Husk. We were seated in a side room which was quieter instead of the main room. The main room was gorgeous though. Our server was so kind and sweet. She definitely made our time at Husk enjoyable. *Chicken liver torte with satsuma (5/5): absolutely delicious. The chicken liver mousse melted in your mouth and the thinly sliced satsuma on top was perfect. *Butternut squash tum som salad (3/5): the butternut squash was a great replacement for green papaya but the salad was just ok. The acidity was a bit too much for us. *Trout with vegetables (3/5): the trout was nice but the skin was too salted; by the time we finished it was way too salty. The carrots could be cooked down more too for our liking. *Smoked pork loin (3/5): the pork was well cooked but the sauce was underwhelming. Eager to try the dining scene away from the riverfront area, we chose Husk for our special dinner. The menus change by service, dinner or weekend brunch. The setting is beautiful. The late 1700's city house has seen plenty of change in tastes and styles over time. The main dining room on the 2nd floor is spacious with a tall ceiling and it's decorated to relax diners and foster cross-table conversations. The original wood flooring invokes images of past events as this room over the centuries has served as a home, grand ballroom, and more recently, as a dance school. Ambiance? Definitely! Service was professional, personable, and efficient. So... Service? Attentive and efficient! Now-Let's discuss menus, service and the food experience... Menus: drink menu, particularly all types of whiskeys, is expansive and varied. Liquor prices are average for this elevated ambiance. Wine selections are not as wide ranging as at many similarly 'elevated' dining spots, but ample enough to get you in the area of most any style wine you seek, including select high end collection wines. Food selections change daily, with six to eight options which are announced on their website shortly before evening dinner service starts at 5pm. When we visited, the offerings included NY Strip steak, a vegitarian option, and a few more. Our selections were quail for one dish and rainbow trout for the other. Both dishes were over cooked and while playfully and artfully plated, were very small portions. Even the oven baked biscuits were over cooked. The service is accomplished by having a primary server who takes the order and keeps an eye on things and back up serving teams to deliver courses. Clearing used dishes was overlooked on our visit, as our appetizer plates of eaten oyster shells had to be moved before placing our already-arrived main course plates. I must give special cudos for the appetizers. We chose the chicken liver torte with sliced persimmon, and outstanding fresh raw oysters. I was actually recommended by a family member to stop at husk and this family member has never been to husk. In my opinion, that means that it's definitely good. If people that I have not been to the restaurant, recommend you go in there, it's usually a good sign. Luckily, this statement is true. I enjoyed my time at husk Savannah.
