I contacted several HVAC companies because one of my AC units was not working properly. The fan would stop running after about five minutes. Several companies told me that the main problem was likely the compressor and, because my unit is more than 20 years old, my only option was to replace the entire system at a cost of approximately $14,000. They also told me that the necessary compressor parts were no longer available. Then I contacted Chris at HVAC & Chill. Unlike the other companies, he was willing to give me a general price range for a possible compressor repair over the phone. I decided to have him come out for a free diagnostic. To my surprise, Chris determined that the compressor was actually fine--the problem was with the fan. After addressing the issue, the unit began working properly again. He potentially saved me from unnecessarily replacing an entire AC system. My other AC unit was also having problems, and Chris was able to replace the capacitor for about one-third of the price other companies had quoted me. He was able to fit me into his schedule the very next morning between 7:00 and 9:00 AM, confirmed the appointment by text, and even gave me a courtesy call about 30 minutes before arriving. When we started having issues with our brand new (as in just a little over a year old) system and the HVAC company who installed it was just not willing (or more like not capable) to go over and beyond to diagnose the real issue (there's a whole back story to this!) and decided to drop us like a hot potato, I knew we needed a new HVAC person. Went to Yelp and blasted out our needs. HVAC and Chill was the very first to respond. I was on the phone with Crystal who was very nice snd accommodating and assured me that they were an honest, family-owned business. She scheduled for someone to come the next day between 9AM and 11AM. The next day, I get a call from Chris around 8AM saying he was on his way and that he will be arriving in about 20 mins. True enough, he was at our front door at his promised arrival time and immediately went to work to diagnose the issue of our system (something our previous HVAC people didnt even do. They only suggested to replace the thermostat--- which was brand spanking new, btw). While performing the diagnostic, he found that our previous HVAC people didn't even wire our thermostat correctly (not the main issue but still!). He also concluded that the wiring of our system was just too old and was causing the short on the Y1 wire (hence our A/C just shutting off intermittently). He couldn't believe that our previous HVAC guys installed a brand new system and didnt take advantage of that fact that our walls were all wide open during the renovation. They should have replaced all the old wiring! He also offered to give a piece of his mind to our old HVAC peeps for not properly wiring the connections to our thermostat. I mean, you would think that wiring to the thermostat would be something BASIC! After diagnosing the issue, he said another tech named Mike would be coming in the afternoon to do the fix needed. He left and texted me updates as to when Mike would be arriving. Half an hour prior to arriving, Mike texts me his ETA. Again, arrived on time, with a big smile on his face, very courteous and went immediately to work. He asked me our preference on certain things and explained what he was working on. He even have tips to my husband to better take care of our unit. After replacing all the old wiring and installing the thermostat in a new area (no walls needed to be opened like what our previous HVAC guys suggested!), he stayed and tested everything thoroughly and made sure everything was working fine before he left. And the price quoted for the job? VERY FAIR AND REASONABLE! Oh my goodness, this experience made me believe that there ARE competent AND honest workers out there. What Chris and Mike don't know is how they made our lives much easier as we have a severely autistic 15 year old who doesn't understand that the A/C is not working and would just get quite aggressive when he's uncomfortable. Now we don't have to worry about him. If you need an HVAC person for whatever project or problems you have, look no further and give these guys a call. They responded to my request immediately and gave me a price online which nobody else would. They came out the next day and were incredibly thorough with their work, even after I told them any major repairs would be done through the original installer. They went out of their way to get my AC running and even told me what to ask and say to the other company to ensure they followed through on their work. After about an hour of work, I asked him what the service call would cost. He said, "Nothing, I just got it working, didn't have to really do all that much."
