2.5 star Hwanggane Food Inc. is a Korean Fast Food joint located inside in Galleria Supermarket in Thornhill. I was surprising how busy it is on a Saturday evening... good prices, fast services and decently good food are always popular. Especially if Family can just eat then shop for grocery in one location! Kal Guk Soo ($6.99) - Photo looks like a veggie delight. But without the English translations... the nice Korean man said it is veggie and taste good... and is not spicy and the broth is hot... sounded good! - Of course the real thing is NEVER as good as the photo... just a few mushrooms, carrot, onion, egg and seaweed..... - The noodle though was cooked quite well, chewy and has bite Today Special - Spicy Chicken Hot Pot Stew ($6.99 instead of $7.99) - Tons of Potatoes and a bowl of rice on the side!! Carbs attack!! You for sure will be full after eating that... - 1/4 chicken in the order with a mixture of dark and white meat... - The broth itself though look Bright RED (my yelp friend was sweating just looking at it) but it is not Korean style spicy... think sweet and with a hint of pepper and soybean...good to mix to eat with rice - The problem with this stew was the chicken was just dumped into the broth and just boil them until they are cooked... (My style of cooking with zero skill) - SKIP!! Eating inside Galleria Supermarket's food court does give me a feel of being in somewhere in Seoul. I don't mind dropping by Hwanggane Food to try out other noodles if I am in the area but probably won't be making a special trip just for that! They accepts Visa and MasterCard!

Amazing Corndogs especially their Mozzarella ones and nicely priced menu and fresh food highly recommend Hwanggane Food

    The Volcano !

Spicy Hotdog = Delicious! They make your hotdog order fresh so there will be a five minute wait, but it is well worth it! Crunchy bites await!

After finding out that the restaurant will be closing in a few days due to redevelopment for future…read moretransit, had to make sure to go for the city's best Korean Cold Noodles one last time. Definitely not my first time here as I've come with family or friends over the past 15+ years, every time, leaving very satisfied. Made sure to arrive for opening time to get a table right away since based on past experience, the wait can take some time, especially for dinner or on the weekends. Of course, had to order my two favourite menu items: 물냉면 - Mool naengmyun (Cold Noodles) and 김치찜 - Kimchi jjim (Braised Kimchi with Pork Belly). Have tried their other dishes in the past, which are pretty standard, but always find myself still gravitating back to these two. The slushy broth is always so tasty and refreshing! They also bring out a good variety of 반찬 - banchan (side dishes). Parking was easy to find this time since we got there early, but sometimes you have to circle around a few times or park at a neighbouring plaza and walk over. Hoping they reopen somewhere else soon!

This is thE place for AUTHENTIC Korean food…read more No "cheese rings", "tteokboki in rosé sauce", or "cheese snow" here! This is REAL Korean food. It was packed with the usual high-decibel level. This food is the closest taste-wise (spice levels) to Korean food which we have enjoyed in South Jeolla Province in Korea. I devoured a lovely doenjang jjigae (fermented soybean stew). Perfectly seasoned. Sooo satisfying. Spouse had the yukkaejjang (shredded spicy beef soup with lots of gochugaru - chili flakes). Both ttukbegae bowls came with purple rice and banchan. DIVINE. Service was efficient. Polite. PRO-TIP:.They've opened a store directly next door which sells house made banchan, Korean sausage (chapsal sundae) and other prepared dishes.

We also didn't see the previous owner when picking up. We totally regret that we didn't come back sooner to support the old man owner while he was still there. We really like him and his passion for his food and his generosity. I hope the owner who ran the shop before is enjoying his happy retired life and finally gets to move back to his country and reconnect with his family. Food-wise, it's been a while since we had the collagen soup, but it feels a bit bland compared to what we had in the past. However, I'm glad they gave us some salt and pepper on the side because adding that does elevate the soup a lot more and you can add to your liking. It's just a bit odd that they packaged the warmed soup in a plastic bag for takeout. The fried chicken is good but needed a dipping sauce (which it came with on the side) for flavour; it's not as juicy and the batter isn't as fluffy as I once remembered it. Also, the prices are higher, which could be due to the rise in costs, but there are no more takeout specials; we're paying the same rate as if we were dining in. Portion-wise, it's just barely enough to feed two for $45, including tax. Though I did have a side piece of bread at home, which was all that's needed for a more filling meal. The soup includes rice and two side dishes. All in all still a delicious meal.

Disclaimer: this review is for my visit in the summer of 2023…read more I can't get over all the 4-5 star reviews for this place. I have been wanting to try this place for a while since there aren't too many Korean restaurants that specialize in Seol-lung-tang in Toronto. So when I invited my sister out for our monthly lunch date, I was very very excited. Entering the restaurant, I was shocked by how dumpy the place was as some reviewers described the place as cozy. There were maybe less than 10 tables with wobbly wooden partitions haphazardly strewn about in between them. The black tabletops had visible wipe marks from being wiped down with unclean cloth. There was also an off putting smell that I couldn't quite pinpoint to and this should have been my cue to leave but we decided to give it a try since we drove some way to eat here. Since Han Oak claims to specialize in their soups, we ordered their Tteuk-Seol-lung-tang (Special beef bone soup) in both regular broth and spicy broth. Our soups arrived in tiny earthen bowls that the word "Tteuk" describing the menu item was put to shame. Despite that "Tteuk" was supposed to have extra meat and larger than their regular size, our portions were dismal. However, the small portion in this case turned out to be a blessing as I knew that the off putting smell I had smelled upon entering the restaurant was coming from the actual soups themselves. Against my better judgement, we ate the soups and both got sick later that day. There was nothing special about the flavours of their soup nor was it really a product of a long-boil as they claim. The soup was milky (typical of Korean bone soups) but light on depth and flavour which was beyond disappointing. Also, typically in Korea, any restaurant that specializes in these types of long-boil soups have superb kimchi; unfermented napa cabbage kimchi and well fermented radish kimchi. The kimchi that came out with our meal, both napa cabbage and radish, were too sour and well beyond being acceptable as a banchan. They should have cooked with it instead of serving it as a side. The lone server was busy staring into her phone the whole time we were eating and this ridiculous meal came to a little over $50. I will not be returning to this restaurant and my search for an authentic Seol-lung-tang in Toronto will continue.
