This hotel is in Jewelry Row and it's gorgeous. I came for my 65th birthday and every employee at the hotel was so kind and helpful. I used valet and forgot my cell phone in the car, and he ran and got it for me. While I was waiting, Gabby gave me some flowers for my birthday to have in my room during my stay. The night shift was awesome. Valet and service was wonderful. I chose this hotel because it's in the list of being historical. But this is where I'm staying when I come to Chicago. It's a great location for walking to the lake, downtown or the Riverwalk. read more

Hotel is OK; it is in a good location but is definately a plain jane - no luxeries, I mean they could swing two ply toilet paper instead of the stuff you find in a public bathroom. Be prepared for extra charges; they immediately put a $100 charge on my card at check in for historic preservation fee - there is no historic features in this hotel. Then at the second day they put two charges agains my card and when I asked why the front desk person had no clue because it didn't show on my invoice. Cold empty not inviting place. Looks great. Kind of mausoleum style. Bar shuts down at 10. Cleaned out cleared out. Rooms only cleaned or restocked every other day. Toilet did not work. Service is up to the mood of the personnel. Maybe it's one of those toxic work places. Housekeeper was the only upbeat happy person. Good- beds comfy and rooms clean. Place was all around dull and cold. Yes even during lollapalooza! Oh and the ammenties list online states- yea and coffee make. Nope. Only coffee. Anything else bring your own beverage. Breakfast ok. My boyfriend and I were visiting Chicago for his birthday. You can't beat the location of this hotel. It is downtown and near a lot of the tourist attractions. The rate was very reasonable too. The rooms were clean and tasteful. The only negative is there are no microwaves in the rooms. We accumulated a lot of leftovers and couldn't heat them up. Before we even arrived, Anthony Jones, a concierge at the hotel, texted us asking what we were visiting for. I told him about my boyfriend's birthday and he upgraded our room to a junior suite. When we arrived, Anthony gave us recommendations and taught us how to use the subway. Once in the room, there was cheesecake and a card wishing my boyfriend a happy birthday. Anthony Jones really goes above and beyond and was there for all our needs. I 100% recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a place to stay in the Chicago area. read more

Stayed here for a week and had such a nice experience! I had a king room and it was very spacious and clean. My bf was using the coffee machine in the room and was pleasantly surprised with it. Overall no complaints about the room. They also gave us drink vouchers for the bar downstairs which was awesome. The gym is very small with only one bench and no cables or strength machines. If you want to do cardio though they have treadmills and a peloton. read more

Love this hotel! Highly recommend the king suite with a sofa sectional and two TVs. This luxurious room had all the finishing touches you expect from a boutique property: gorgeous and tastefully selected wallpaper, carpeting, and lovely room-darkening draperies. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable, yielding but super supportive. There was a roomy bathtub great for a soak after exploring Jewelers' Row, and also a separate shower for those who don't like stepping in and out of a tub. The lobby is a show-stopper in mottled-black and striped-white marble. There's a coffeemaker in the room but we just popped downstairs in the morning for the Lavazza that they serve in the lobby. (Don't miss the restaurant which serves fresh hot food and will accommodate your sensitivities such as gluten allergy.) I spent my birthday at the Silversmith Hotel this past November, and it was truly magical catching the first snowfall of the season from such a perfect location. The hotel is situated in a fantastic area right off the "L" train, making it incredibly easy to get around the city. While the rooms were a bit on the smaller side, the beds were wonderfully soft and the bathrooms were surprisingly spacious. The staff was super nice and accommodating throughout my stay, and both the bar and restaurant were absolutely fantastic. It was the perfect cozy home base for a snowy Chicago birthday! read more

I had a wonderful experience staying at the Silversmith Hotel. The cost of our stay was reasonable, the hotel is in the absolute perfect location (5 minutes away from The Bean, and very walkable to multiple sights including the river, Skydeck, Art Institute, Grant Park, State Street), the check in and check out process took minutes, they had a bag hold, every staff member was professional and helpful (Beverly at the front desk was amazing, Renee at the bar was sweet), the hotel was very clean and well kept, our room was huge and stocked with all the amenities we could hope for including a fridge, safe, iron, blow dryer, multiple outlets for charging devices. I would 100% stay here again. The only thing that needed improvement was that the bathroom sink was not working well, and there was only a very small trickle of water at all times, and only at a very cold temperature. Given the lack of water pressure and warmth, it was very time-consuming and difficult to get anything done in the morning and be ready to go for the day. However, the shower was working perfectly fine. We did not bring it up in real time as we were only there for 3 days, and figured it was a plumbing issue which would not be sorted out quickly, and we were barely in the room to let staff in anyway. We stayed in room 914 (deluxe king room) which had a view of a brick wall which was actually preferred because it felt more private but did not interfere with the abundant amount of sunlight we got. We stayed one night as we were coming from a work event in Abbott Park and wanted to check out Chicago sights before we left. Hotel is clean and took was spacious and beautiful. Beverly, (Front Desk) was so incredibly welcoming and helpful and steered us to the best Deep Dish Pizza at Lou Malnati's - we became big fans! The service and Food there is the best! On our way out we wanted to try a Chicago Hot Dog and Enrique (valet) who befriended us as soon as we arrived and waved at us each time we returned to the hotel after a day of adventures- had us go to Jim's Original and it was great!!! We stayed here for five nights combining visiting family in the suburbs with sightseeing. This is a VERY convenient location near the loop, Millenium Park, great restaurants, and the El is steps from the door. We stayed on the backside of the hotel, facing the alley no view but also VERY quiet. The room was nice, clean, modern (no usb ports so bring one for your charger). The maid staff offers daily service, which was a treat after covid. They also offer one drink coupon a night, we had no issues with this (as some other folks complained about). What makes this hotel truly special is the staff. Patty and Beverly at the front desk and Enrique at the Valet stand will answer any question with a smile and terrific attitude. The weekend/late night staff was nice also, but I didn't get their names... Take advantage of Beverly or Patty booking your architectural tour - this will get you $10 off the regular price per person!!! read more

FIVE STAR REVIEW DUE TO SERVICE, DECOR, & SAFETY. Read entire review to see biggest concern discovered the morning of checkout. Pros: Beautiful hotel decor, the greatest staff, and super safe in downtown/The Loop Chicago. Enrique and Berun at the front door are phenomenal. I understand they are working for their tips, but their kindness and eagerness to help are genuine at the same time. They both go above and beyond to assist guests entering and exiting the building, with luggage, tips about the city and more. Nikko at the front desk was warm and inviting as well. The bartenders were okay once you get them talking. Renee was warm enough and held a conversation, at times maybe felt like she was doing it because she had to. The other gentleman I encountered: I didn't catch his name. He told me he's Cuban and he's been there since 2017, if I remember correctly. I approached the bar on Monday around 5:30 and I sat directly in front of him. He had his back side resting up against the inner circle of the bar facing me but he was watching the television behind my head. He didn't acknowledge me and I sat there a good amount of time before I asked if they had a happy hour menu due to seeing the board stating happy hour is from 4:30pm-7:00pm. He pointed to a closed menu on the bar to the right of me so I reached over and grabbed it as it wasn't close. I sat there a while and looked at the menu. He never once asked if I was ready or needed suggestions. So I finally told him what I wanted. I struck up a conversation with him to see how that would go! He held a lengthy conversation once it started going. I think the free drink vouchers to the hotel guests are not the greatest idea and here's why: I feel like they looked at me and automatically assumed I had some (you receive one per night of stay but you can use them together). It made me feel cheap and I definitely got the sense that the bartenders treated me different, and again before they even knew how I would be paying for my beverages. I bought too many drinks to count outside my two tickets I received. I used those on my first night but I ordered more $16.00 cocktails after that. I tipped based off of what my bill would have been had I paid for the two complimentary beverages. So my first night I tipped well over 20%. Second night with the gentleman, zero! I was so put off and offended that he disregarded me/flat out ignored my presence that I just couldn't. Cons: the rooms do not have microwaves, never found an ice machine but also didn't ask for one, the walls in the public bathroom and in the actual hotel room were dirty (just random splatters and different colors), and the back of the doors in the public restroom were visually disgusting around the trim and the door handle. The biggest con: the room heavily smells like mildew/musty/moldy. Upon inspection the morning we checked out, the wallpaper was peeing back at the baseboard and even though I was hesitant to peek, I did anyway. To my horror, it appears as though there is some heavy black-colored mold in the wall. *if you need to use a microwave I was informed they will bring one out of their kitchen and put it on a booth table in the restaurant and sometimes they will it up to your room (just weird and deters you from asking) Parking: We used Spot Hero online to secure parking for the duration of our stay and parked our car at the Grant Park North parking garage and it was great. The walk is super short and the garage is easy to maneuver. I saved the pass to my Apple Wallet and 2 1/2 days with the service fee was $69 and some change, a lot more affordable than the other options. read more

We booked a two queen bed room with an ADA compliant toilet through Booking.com. When we arrived, they claimed to have no knowledge of our request for the chair-height toilet. They said they could switch us to a smaller room with the ADA toilet (1 full bed) for the same price. We went up and checked out the room and it still had a low toilet. So, we Googled hotels with ADA rooms and made a new booking, and cancelled our stay at the Silversmith. Mind you, the are still charging us for one night, and holding payment for all three nights. The desk clerk was far from nice about all this. We will never return to the Silversmith. And we have issues with Booking.com as well for not passing through requests for handicapped accessible rooms. read more

The bathroom had hair everywhere and wasn't clean whatsoever. the bed smelled like heavy cigarettes, the power plug in the bathroom didn't work, the handle in the bathroom came off completely off the door. I could just imagine the rest of what you can't see unless you have xray vision.... Never will stay there gain... I would have asked for a room change but checked in at 11pm. I booked our stay here two months in advance and prepaid the entire stay. We arrived on a Tuesday at 1 o'clock, and they gladly checked us in early. We were told our room was upgraded. To what I don't know? Maybe we were upgraded to the back of the building so we don't have to hear the train. There were two of us and we're staying seven nights and we only had eight coat hangers . So I called down to the front desk and asked if we could have more coat hangers and I was told yes. So I waited and waited and waited for the hangers to arrive before I took a nap. They never arrived. I took a short nap and we headed out into the city. When we returned, there were no hangers. We noticed we only had one coffee cup, and no coffee stirrers. The next morning I went down to get our complementary coffee. The coffee pot was empty. The man attending the coffee service was on his cell phone. I asked him if more coffee was coming and if they provided hot water. He grabbed the coffee pot and a coffee cup, and he went to the back. He came back with a cup of hot water and fresh coffee. I would say he wasn't engaging or friendly. I asked the front desk again if I could have more coat hangers, I was told yes. We went out for the day and when we returned at night, we still had no coat hangers. Also, it seemed like maid service just emptied the trash cans and made the bed. The pillows on the couch weren't rearranged. There were wet towels on the counter in the bathroom. I went down to the front desk. I asked what housekeeping was supposed to do and apparently they didn't do what they were supposed to do that day. I asked if we could have coat hangers. I explained that I've already asked for them twice the young man at the front desk said yes, he would send them up right away and within 10 minutes or so we received hangers. Thank you. The next day we decided to go to the bar for a drink. There were two bartenders. A man and a woman and the bar was full. We took the last two seats at the bar and we chatted with the couple next to us. After about 10 minutes of being ignored I asked the male bartender if we could order a drink. I asked him if he could tell me about the wine choices and he gave us menus. His energy was just shy of being hostile. After a few minutes he never came back so we left. Overall, we found some of the staff friendly and some appeared to not like their job. The bathroom was not cleaned very well. The pillows were lumpy. You can see in the photos the mold in the shower. The location of Silversmith is great, the cost of the room was good. I thought we paid in full up front and when we check out we were told there would be an addition charge of twenty something (I can't remember the exact amount) a day. Adamus bar and restaurant have plenty of good grub and drinks to wet your whistles after a long flight. Staff are super friendly and accommodating. Stayed here for the Chicago Marathon, so please note that most of my feedback on this hotel pertains to staying there specifically for race weekend. Pros: There are many! For race weekend, the number one advantage is the proximity to the start and finish line. I actually found this hotel via the Chicago Marathon website. This is a partner hotel and it showed that this hotel is less than a mile from the start line and only about a quarter mile from the finish line. Can't beat that! They also give you complimentary bottled Aquafina water which was a game changer. Especially since the race day weather was high 70s/low 80s, I was hydrating like crazy. So this probably saved me at least $50 in water. The staff is also really friendly and helpful. They will greet you whenever you're coming out of the elevator or coming in from the main entrance. They also seem genuinely interested in what your plans are for the day and get excited about offering advice on where to go, dine, etc. Cons: The rooms are on the smaller side. Which I guess is to be expected in a downtown, historic hotel. It was a little tight with two people in here, but it worked. Also, there is only a shower in the bathroom. Since I was there for the marathon, sometimes I like taking an ice bath or at least laying down as I'm showering (maybe that makes me weird). Call me lazy, but I just didn't like standing in the shower after the race lol. Otherwise, I'd recommend staying here at the Silversmith if in town for the Chicago Marathon. Even aside from the Marathon, it's really great proximity to many other fun things in Chicago as well! read more

Stayed here for a fun staycation with my boyfriend this weekend! We booked on Hotels.com ahead of time which was nice. The Loop is not usually my favorite area in the city, but it was a great stay! The hotel is really nice, the room was clean & comfortable, & the staff were all really helpful. It's right around the corner from the Art Institute and shopping on State Street. One pro tip, if you are staying I would recommend asking for a room that doesn't face the L. It may be a touch loud if you do, but overall we really liked the Silversmith and would happily stay again! read more

This is a nice hotel on the outside. Some care is needed in the rooms exterior decor. It's proximity to everything is on point. It is walking distance from the Bean and restaurants in the downtown area. The train is literally right outside the front door. The staff is friendly, especially the guys in Valet. The reason for the three stars is the room we stayed in needed a little updating. The tissue box was falling apart and the restroom floor and shower weren't all that clean. For the price we pay, they can do a better job in this area for sure. Will probably not stay here again. read more

This is an ok hotel in downtown Chicago. The prices are through the roof for a simple room and does not reflect the quality of the room or service. On top of that, they charge a Preservation Fee of $20 a day (plus taxes of course) that is for 'the water in the room (2 bottles a day), $15 at the bar (which you can ONLY spend on wine or two ingredient cocktails, no non-alcoholics or food) and coffee and water in the lobby'. They didn't replenish coffee in the room (Keurig), so I had to go downstairs to get my coffee, which I think is absurd! They also didn't replenish bathroom amenities, so I had to ask for them. The staff at the reception was very friendly, but the hotel management is crappy. I don't want to always ask for things that should be replaced with housekeeping. The thermostat was completely off, 80F was comfortable while 72F was freezing. The bed was comfortable. The towels were fluffy but had so many fibers that stuck to my stick and got easily into my eyes - very uncomfortable. The shower tiles were not smooth around the edges, pretty sharp and could easily hurt someone. The water pressure is low. It's either burning hot or cold water, the tab was not working great. The hairdryer was so dirty and sticky, I disinfected my hands after touching it. The couch was extremely old and uncomfortable. The desk pretty small and not aligned with the height of the chair, working was a pain in the back. Lots of people stay in this hotel for conferences and I think they should accommodate for that. We don't need a couch, but a working desk and chair. We don't need free booze at a dark, shady looking bar in the lobby, but breakfast would've been nice. I only used the voucher at the bar once, but felt extremely uncomfortable sitting alone at the bar as a woman with a wine (you couldn't take it anywhere else). read more

When I first got to my room, I was immediately put off and alarmed because a dirty old rag had fallen off the handle on the inside when I opened the door. When I went to pick it up, I realized it wasn't a hotel towel but rather someone's used towel left behind. I was extremely unnerved because what if they had just given me the wrong key to a room that was already taken or what if that was some weird mark for housekeeping to show there's just a single female in the room? (I've seen enough true crime to question suspicious things in unknown territory haha) I then stepped in to find they gave me the wrong room with only a single bed when I paid extra to get a room with two beds. So I went downstairs to get this fixed only to find out that apparently ALL of their rooms with two beds were filled for the night and the girl at the front desk was very nonchalant and kinda rude about it. I booked through capital one so she had me take up the issue with them and offered me a "suite" with a pull out couch. She claimed it was an upgrade but I chose the double deluxe I had over the single bed suite and had to pay extra for it. Ultimately I had no other option since I was traveling from California and didn't have anywhere else to go. I'm so glad my first night was spent with friends in the room, because we found that neither the front door nor the bathroom door would lock... another red flag. The room didn't have a deadbolt that I could latch from the inside either and I found that the peephole was shattered when I looked through it. I was fortunate one of my friends figured out that the only way to get the front door's to lock was to pull up the door from the floor til it lined up and turn the lock, but that door was pretty hefty in weight and I probably wouldn't have found that just messing around with it on my own. Same trick worked for the bathroom door, so I guess you could say their doors technically still lock. Safe to say I slept with a table in front of the front door the second night I spent alone. Bad vibes overall, would not recommend. Although the location itself was conveniently a couple blocks away from both the Bean and Chicago's art institute... I'm fair in balancing my pros and cons but all the cons truly outweighs the pros with this place. Oh but one last redeeming quality was the service from the guy at the front door because he was friendly and kind with every encounter. read more

Let's just first start off with- yes they charge an additional charge on top of your stay for "destination fees" basically $15 (plus tax) a night for 2 water bottles and wifi. Unless you use the gym, robes, and store your bag (the normal stuff that every other hotel offers for free) it's totally a rip off, but what are you gonna do? Can't do much except drink your $15 water bottles every day. Haha. Anyway, besides the added fee, the place is pretty cool, a boutique hotel. Our room had high ceilings with tall windows and lots of space. The bathroom and room were cleaned well and comfortable. Bathroom was big and had only shower- good amenities. Room even comes with a mini fridge... although no ice machine. You have to call for it and it comes 30+ minutes, so plan accordingly. One thing I really wish they had was a swimming pool! I think it'll look nice with their art deco theme. The location is also very convenient. Next to all the train lines in the loop, 2 blocks from Millenium Park, rooftop bars, and short walk (10-20 minutes) to almost everything and a really good coffee shop across the street! We had a good stay. Probably one of the better rooms we were able to book through Chase Reserve rewards. read more

Owners need to know that the woman at the front desk on 2-1 is openly hostile & rude. I was looking for a handicap entrance to another business & she became infuriated said i was in the wrong place & kept directing me to the actual building which did not have a handicapped entrance. She tried to usher me out of the building & I told her I knew where the actual building was. "Well obviously you don't because you are in here"! If this is the face of your business, you are in big trouble. She was abrasive & inconsiderate She is clearly more suited for housekeeping Customers should look elsewhere. I was excited to stay here until I got into bed and found a bunch of blond hairs in it. It was so late and I was exhausted from traveling all day. I called the front desk and the gal offered to switch rooms but I hardly wanted to pack my luggage up again, all I wanted to do was sleep. I asked if they could just send up fresh sheets and I would change them myself. She said the manager would be in touch, never heard anything from them. I called the next morning to speak to management to see what they could do for me since clearly it looked like the bedding was never changed, and no one was in. Again, I was told someone would get back with me to address the situation. Never heard anything back. I definitely won't be staying here again when I come back in a few weeks for work. Honestly, the hotel wasn't as beautiful as I thought it'd be. We paid a little extra to get a king deluxe and honestly... the room size was pretty standard. Our view from our window was a brick wall to the alley behind. On the plus side, early check in fee was only $25 which was great since our flight landed in Chicago early. Complimentary water bottles were supplied which was great because I got a bottle before I left everyday. A keurig and mini fridge were also in the room. The location is great, you can walk to the bean or cindys and is close to 3 different stops. Overall, the location is what makes this hotel worth it. read more

We checked in the hotel yesterday July 15. after we checked in, the concierge lady recommended us buy the boat cruise tickets from them that we got better price they offer us $31 per person. If we buy at the gate which is $47 per person, so it is good deal, but they trick us. We paid cash with a 100 dollar bill,they changed us $38. When we got to ticket office where we checked in, the cage lady said we had to pay $47 per person. We took out the voucher copy, the voucher don't even show the price of the total that we paid, we don't even got receipt from them that we paid the silversmith hotel. After we got back to hotel, they said they only book for us, but not paid anything yet, that a 100 dollar bill it was for change to small bills :(. We recently went to Chicago to see Hamilton and chose The Silversmith for our stay. From the moment we arrived, to the last step out of the hotel, we loved our stay. We arrived prior to check in time and upon arrival, the woman at check in shared that there were rooms available, however, she suggested that we wait until check in time to secure a better room. We were glad that she shared this with us and went to grab a quick bite to eat. When we came back and checked in, we were given a great room on the back side of the hotel that was completely quiet. The toiletries were excellent with an extra special touch of an exfoliating mitt, which was a first. The bathroom is very well lit and the decor and bedding were soft grays and white. It was very relaxing. The room may have been a bit on the small side, however, the ceilings were very tall which really gave the room a larger feel. We definitely enjoyed our stay here, especially the very close proximity to the CIBC theater, which is where Hamilton was playing. If you want to stay in the theater district of Chicago or South Loop area, this boutique hotel is a great choice! read more
