This is a new, modern, well--run hotel well situated in Austin for walking to things. The rooms are spacious and great for teleworking. Breakfast is awesome. We will never stay there again. My daughters truck was broken into in the public parking garage across the street, we were directed there by the valet. Homeless people everywhere, sleeping in the stairwells of the parking garage. I don't think the homeless broke into the truck, but they certainly make it easy for unsavory characters to blend in, in the area. I was panhandled multiple times. Observed two verbal altercations as homeless tried to enter the hotel to be chased around and ushered out. Thats just when I happened to be standing around down there, which was not alot. If that kind of activity doesn't bother you, it is a great place to stay. read more

Great value for the price. Clean, well designed, friendly hotel in downtown Austin only a few blocks from the capitol. Room was spacious and clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Lobby fantastic for working, waiting, and eating. Free breakfast really outstanding. Shuttle service. The staff all seemed to like each other and like working there. The only thing to note is that two blocks south is "homeless district." That's where the shuttle is a plus. You can't walk south, only west, north, and perhaps east, unless you want to encounter an encampment of sadly mentally ill homeless folks. But they stay confined 2-3 block south of the hotel. read more

This place is terrible. Most of the walls and surfaces in the hotel were crooked, even though it was just built. The smoke detector sprayed light into my eyes in the bedroom. The bathroom door was messed up and didn't close fully. The curtains were messed up and didn't block all the light from the window. The iron sprayed rust onto my shirt, ruining it. An extremely kind and helpful woman at the front desk did everything she could to help - she personally took my shirt to the dry cleaner and brought it back within hours, and for that I am grateful. (Unfortunately, while the dry cleaning did make the rust stain disappear for a day, it did not last. When I got home and washed it, the stain became apparent again. Hyatt's penny-pinching did an excellent job at ruining a shirt I spent $80 to buy at Banana Republic. Thanks a ton!) I had stayed in a Waldorf Astoria hotel the night before, and I spent the same amount of money on a perfect room there. (The only reason I ended up at this Hyatt place is that I couldn't find anywhere else in Austin to stay, and I took a chance...) The Hyatt House is utter garbage, and every dime you give them just makes the world a little bit worse. I don't blame the staff at all. They are doing an amazing job at dealing with problems created by absolutely terrible corporate management that sees the world only through the lens of a spreadsheet. This is a wonderful new hotel. The rooms are great, staff is friendly, lobby is welcoming, and breakfast is tasty and free. Yes, it's valet parking only. Yes, the neighborhood is graced by homeless. But it was perfect for what we needed and I hope my work has a conference nearby again soon. read more

Update: The manager, Elana, moved my stay to another quieter property. I am upgrading to two stars because of the staff help. Staying here for business as I write this. Exhausted from an almost total lack of sleep for 3 days now. The hotel is nice enough, and new. But it is so bloody noisy that rest is impossible. If you try to sleep early you will be kept up until around 3am by almost constant police sirens roaring through downtown Austin. Or by other guests slamming around all night. The only quiet hours to sleep are 4am to 7am. I left work early to get a little rest, and found some sort of amateur outdoor concert (that sounds like a barnyard animal making love to an AM radio) occurring somewhere so nearby that rest is once again denied. The front desk says that the local bars have outdoor music EVERY NIGHT FROM WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY UNTIL MIDNUGHT. YOU WILL NEVER SLEEP HERE. DO NOT STAY HERE. Soon it will be dark and the sirens will begin again. Is all of Austin this craptacular? read more

I had one of the most horrible, racist experiences in my life at this place. I went to check-in the hotel early around 1pm. Check-in is at 3. I ask the front desk could I check-in early and he said if the room was ready, its no problem. He then says the room was ready. I handed him my credit card and he was to charge $150 for incidentals. When I put my cc in to pay, it said $550. I was alarmed and asked what are you doing? This is already paid for through a 3rd party. He then said let me figure it out so I politely sat down and waited. AS I waited, 2 people were attempting to check in. After 20 min of waitng, I approach the counter for an update. Immediately met with an attitude adn was told to sit back down. Wasnt going to happen at that point. I step a little closer to make sure I understand what he said. He repeated it and said that he was doing me a favor by checking me in early. I said when I'm paying you $550, its not a favor. He then proceeds to call the police on me saying I threatened him. I didn't threaten him, he felt threatened. Big difference & out of my control (I'm 6'7" by the way) was my reponse. The police arrive in less than 60 seconds (true story) and he then lies to the police thinking that his white privilege was going to save him and have me thrown out I assume. After getting both sides, somehow my room became available and I'm ready to pay again. I ask the front desk clerk why did it take for police to be called for my room to become available? (which he said was available in the first place). I kid you not, his response with 3 officers standing behind me was, "Shut the f*ck up". Oldest trick in the book. I get the room and contact corporate the next morning with assurance that my stay would be comped and would recieve a call after they spoke with the manager. I was then asked if I wanted to still stay there as it would be awkward. I said I'm not going anywhere. It is going to be awkward for him, not me. Needless to say, I haven't heard from anyone. Patrick (front desk clerk) was nowhere to be found either for the remainder of my trip. Interesting. If you're black, I strongly suggest you don't stay here as the staff and the corporate office don't seem to think that customers should be treated equally. read more

The only star given to Dimitri (hopefully I spelled correctly) who checked me in at the front desk. He was great. Other than that, I had a very disappointing experience here that I never had with any hotel before. On my first night, I had dinner at the bar and there was barely any service, compared to the service received by a white guy sitting next to me. I didn't take it seriously until the next day. During lunch time, I saw two white people sitting at the bar and waiting for their food, and I figured that the bar might be open for lunch. I sat down, no one served me. Then I saw the chef coming out of the kitchen with two freshly-baked pizzas. The chef and the two people had a small talk and went back to the kitchen. I was confused and asked the lady at the front desk, who told me that the bar wasn't open for lunch and the two people probably brought their own food. "But I saw the pizzas coming out of the kitchen just now." "I don't know, you want me to check with them?" (in a confronting tone) "I feel like I'm experiencing differential treatment here." "Oh Jesus!" (in a very unprofessional and complaining tone). She later told me, after I called the front desk, that the two people and the chef were "having a private meeting." But I couldn't be persuaded as the chef was there only for a little bit to serve the food. Even if there was some misunderstanding, they didn't even bother taking the initiative to explain the situation or apologize for their unprofessional attitude. I feel obliged to speak up about this experience. read more

Great hotel. Feels like Hyatts are really stepping up their game. This one will have items you can borrow like a yoga mat, sound machine, small appliances, etc. Staff told me they are still ordering items though, so wish they wouldn't have promoted them yet. Decor is sleek, minimalist clean. Comfortable bed, nice shower, room darkening shade was truly darkening. Suggest beds have some firm pillow options in addition to the squishy ones. Liked having onsite bar/restaurant. Pool and outdoor lounge area was very nice. read more

I tried to stay here during the Snow/Ice Storm last week. I booked the reservation thru Booking.com website and recieved a confirmation. On the day of check in I checked out of my current hotel and proceeded to walk to (no car, no uber available, no bus, nothing due to storm) the Hyatt house. The walk took about 2 hours to go 1.5 miles in the ice. When we arrived to check in the manager said they are not honoring any booking.com or 3rd party reservations. This was news to us and it would have helped if we got this notice before we checked out of the previous hotel. This essentially made us homeless. I would not recommend staying at a place like this if they will not honor a reservation needed during a crisis. Thanks hyatt house for causing me undo stress and pain during the worst time of our lives. Way to be caring about our needs. Companies like this should not be allowed to do business. read more

This place is terrible they have an option to pay cash online then wouldn't allow me to pay cash and made me awkwardly leave the lady who apparently was the manager didn't really seem to care that they had false information online...she was very blah and non concerned. They also force you to get and pay for valet the building is not downtown it's a couple blocks always very secluded surrounded by lots of homeless people. There is no parking and nothing with instructions so the parking situation is just confusing and the inside isn't even as nice as it should be for what you're paying and bad customer service we ended up leaving and just staying at the Hilton which is amazing and cheaper. read more

Everything was fine until we had to leave at 4am for a family emergency and the front desk and valet was nowhere to be found we called and called the front desk while waiting on the driveway with all of our things with no answer, we waited 30-45 minutes til someone came down and then even more for the valet. The overnight staff is slacking and nowhere to be found. read more

I will never book a room here again. I went here 2 weeks in a row and the first time they didn't have my room booked correctly. I booked a 2 bed and a pullout. I was forced into a king and a pullout and when I got to the room the door was wide open like someone had been in there just recently. The following week they had even bigger issues. I had to check in twice to keep the same room for 4 nights and the first night we stayed housekeeping didn't even show up at all. No towels, no soap, dirty sheets and a messy room. The front desk was all over the place. Any place would have been more organized and this place was supposed to be on the "higher end." Problems like this 2 weeks in a row shows how unorganized this place is. It is also way to close to the airport and parking is annoying because you can only park through a gate if you use your room key. On top of it all we had to get our room keys renewed for multiple reasons. Just stay somewhere else! read more

I found Hyatt House to be an adorable, cozy spot just a few blocks beyond the main parts of downtown and right around the corner from the iconic BBQ restaurant/music venue 'Stubbs.' It is not a big hotel, the swimming pool is one of the smallest I've ever seen, but the room was spacious, well-appointed and clean, and the main floor had all the amenities I needed from the wonderful breakfast buffet to the snack area, exercise room and outside lounge with firepit. The other notable thing was the friendly and accommodating staff. From the friendly front desk receptionist at check-in to the delightful and helpful valet, I was quite charmed by how impressive the level of customer service was at this boutique hotel. I should mention that the location of the hotel is near a Salvation Army site that appears to attract a large number of down-and-out and possibly homeless men and women to the surrounding blocks, however as I see it, if colorful characters aren't your cup of tea, perhaps Austin isn't a fit for you anyway. read more

Excellent, modern hotel with all amenities and a professional helpful staff. Room was spacious, clean and very well appointed. 24 gym and outdoor pool with patio, complete with a gas flame fire pit. The breakfast buffet, with omelet stand, was amazing. It is walkable to 6th street and all downtown attractions. Other reviewers make reference to a nearby homeless shelter. It is not exactly next to the hotel and the hotel staff kindly offer guidance on how to steer clear of any issues while out and about. If people have problems with how Austin is set up (as I do) then that's to be taken up with the City Council and the "progressives" who have the the city into the ground--not with the hotel staff who are doing their best from what I can see. I would highly recommend this hotel for business travelers and families! read more

This is a very nice, modern hotel. It is walking distance to the Capitol, the UT campus, and 6th Street. Yes, there is a government-run homeless shelter nearby. I would rather have a shelter nearby than people sleeping rough with no services for them. So, why the low rating? Well... we had firm plans to come to Austin for a major sports event with our family (2 parents, 3 kids), and so reserved a room online A YEAR IN ADVANCE. We arrived at 6:00 pm to check in and were told by the front desk, "Sorry, we don't have a room for you. We overbook, and this time all rooms were taken." I asked what the point of a reservation is. No comment. She offered a room with a king bed - for a family of five. After my wife blew a gasket, we ended up with two small rooms on different floors. Better than nothing, but not what we expected or reserved. And, no apology from Hyatt. Reserve at your own risk. read more

Hold aside the fact that this place is one block from a homeless center with lots of homeless nearby. Hold aside that the hotel is near a music district which during SXSW plays very loud music very late into the night so there is too much noise to sleep. The real problem is that although my room was to be billed to a client's account, when I had to leave a credit card for incidentals, the hotel actually charged my room to that card. Moreover, when I tried to explain this to the check-out person, I was treated rudely beyond belief. Bad service, bad location=bad choice. read more

I am not familiar with this part of the Hyatt brand and I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy staying at a limited service property. Despite a rough check-in experience (partially my fault) this place is awesome. Hey actually offer more than what most limited service hotels offer. Everyone is knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Front desk does make he best efforts to accommodate requests. I gotta say, the highlight of this place is the H Bar in the lobby. Chelsea is an awesome bartender who is funny and knows how to keep herself poised when the bar is slammed. She knows how to mix flavors, so I recommend you let her make you a custom drink (like her raspberry and jalapeño margarita) read more

I booked this hotel via hotels.com because they had good ratings per trip advisor and I was looking for a hotel in downtown Austin. Everything about this hotel is excellent. Perhaps it had an intimate swimming pool and is near a shelter that isn't their fault. To me it is about location, location, location!!! The beauty about this hotel is the staff and ice cold refreshing fruit water; amenities such as the breakfast and the shuttle bus to nearby vicinity areas after 2pm. Upon arriving in the late afternoon we received a ride to S. Congress Avenue to shop, saw the bats flying/feeding at dusk, bought boots at Allens' boot store, and walked all the way back to Stubbs for a late night BBQ meal. The hotel is within walking distance to the capitol which was also a plus! Whether during the daytime or late at night, every staff member was very courteous, respectful and friendly. I called the hotel the day after I checked out, as I misplaced my ID card, so the front desk spoke to housekeeping and advised the manager will call me back. Luckily, I went through all my zipped pouches, containers, bags for a third time and found it. i called back and apologized for inconveniencing them. The front desk staff was friendly and caring throughout my ordeal. Excellent customer service is caring, sharing and listening to the customers while being respectful of their needs. Considering this is the first-ever Hyatt I have stayed at, the brand made quite a strong impression. I picked the location because it is close to both 6th Street as well as the Texas Capitol Building. The lobby area is exceptionally nice as it was a nice touch that the place had a warm homely Christmas at kind of feel to it that made you feel a personal guest at someone's place as opposed to feeling like you are traveling. The breakfast had plenty of options, a range of healthy foods including lots of fruit and yogurt and juices to choose from as I liked this property didn't waterdown their food choices like most hotel chains do. I am happy that was the case even though I stayed here during the pandemic. Along with that, it is good to see that coronavirus situation is being taken very seriously by this property as not every hotel is taking effective measures. The best aspect of this hotel is the management as if there is something you need, the property responds and handles things in a timely manner. In fact, management tries to go above and beyond what most hotels do. You can tell that the standard and reputation, the brand means something to the World of Hyatt as they are not just looking at you as a short term guest, they show that earning your business is not enough as they really try to earn your loyalty and continued patronage. read more

The rooms our fine but the property is extremely mismanaged. We booked this place for a bachelorette party months in advance. Paid extra for double beds in each room. Called ahead a couple times leading up to the weekend to confirm and double confirm - our rooms definitely did not have double beds! The hotel was booked so they couldn't even get us into other rooms. Never mind that - we personally went down and asked the front desk for house keeping service the next morning, the lady wrote down our room number and said it'll be taken care of. When we got back that evening....housekeeping hadn't been through! And of course their staff had left for the day so our consolation prize was a couple extra towels. Horrible service from a Hyatt property. Tons of other hotels in Austin, definitely do not stay here if you want a pleasant stay. read more

I wouldn't book here if you're disabled. When we arrived they somehow "accidentally" gave our room to someone else. They weren't willing to do anything about it other than comp valet, despite it being illegal to overbook disabled rooms. It was supposed to be a room with two beds and they gave us a room with one bed and it was the same price. The room itself had a broken shade so you couldn't open it to look out the window and the soap in the shower was used, complete with bits of hair from whoever stayed there last. I'd look somewhere else if I we're staying in the area. The accommodations are in a run down state with loose and broken fixtures all over the place. It's two star because at least it's better than being on the street which was our other option when they gave our room away and the lobby and fire pit are nice. read more

This was my worst experience in 40 years of traveling! I booked an entire weekend through my airline carrier including my flight the rental car hotel and parking of the rental car and I spent 45 minutes at the counter with a brand new employee talking to the booking agency about a 6% discrepancy in the billing and the manager walked by four times and did not stop to help during the time I waited I booked four nights at the Hilton and saved $10 I walked in and they had my room waiting. read more

Maybe a good place on the weekends...if you're with a group. I stayed here because it was a sanctioned overflow hotel for a conference/meeting. It's not located in a safe place in Austin. I travel a lot for work and rarely provide a poor review. The staff was awesome, when they were available. I had to take a ride service to go three blocks back to the hotel. And the noise doesn't play well for any sort of sleep if you have to work in the morning. It's a new hotel, but the Hyatt knows better. read more
