They have been closed for over a year after purchasing the business from a friend. Story is they were told not to do any upgrades as the building is old enough that codes would catch up to them. Looks like a tavern. Smells like a tavern. IS a tavern! This is a local watering hole that still holds to it's roots as one's "local". There is nothing fancy, artisanal nor brass and ferns about this place (thank God). Just a good home town feel, lots of humorous signs and things posted about ("$5 to tell your wife when she calls that you are not here....") , a beer selection of local craft beers (maybe pushing the edge a bit there) and PBR on tap. The music selection is broad and classic. One minute I was enjoying a Merle Haggard tune then came Jimi Hendrix' "Voodoo Child (Slight Return). There is a food menu with good quality sandwiches offered. Again, pushing the edge, even have vegie (one "g") burgers. And very nice owners/operators. read more

I have never been to a bar ever since I moved to the States. I don't drink , am not a big fan of sports and am happily married. So basically if I ever went It would have to be a necessity. Husband and I were travelling through the eastern side of WA to celebrate my birthday weekend hiking and exoloring. Colfax was where we stayed and let's be real they dont have too many options to dine around here. A quick look through yelp led us here. An old gentleman served and took orders while two ladies cooked and prepped. I had read their vegeterian burger was great in one review and it is a very uncommon thing to hear especially when that's being said about a small town bar. We ordered the Hamburger and the veggie burger with tater tots and skinny fries. The food arrived on 20ish minutes. The vegeterian burger was so good. Basically was a delicious patty, lettuce, tomatoe, pickle, onion and a drizzle of mayo. It was as good as the impossible burger in Seattle. I was starving and cleaned out my entire plate including fries. Husband had no complaints about his hamburger and seemed satisfied. He had a pilsner as well. The patrons seemed to be regular folks who reside in Colfax and some passing by folks like us. They don't bring the cheque unless you ask for it . So make sure to ask for one if in a hurry. It was my first time walking around Colfax and I had, initially, very low expectations of the food I may find at this drive through town. Then I came to Hyde Out Tavern and I was blown away by the amazing food and service. As a vegetarian, I had very low expectations about even having any options for me to eat. When I came here, I was surprised that they had a veggie burger. I was even more surprised when they gave me a veggie burger with a good quality patty! I appreciated their selection since seitan patties are usually very unsavory. Their steak fries and shoe string fries were also very good. If you are an anxious vegetarian in small town Colfax, come to this place! In terms of their service, I came with my fiance to this place and we were the only ones there. They were very nice and respected our privacy by working on things in the kitchen. They came in from time to time to check up on us and refilled our beer orders. If you come here and need to use the restroom, make sure to turn on the light OUTSIDE of the ladies' door or else you will be flailing in darkness. Other review descriptions of this establishment are appropriate and helpful. It didn't bother me though, it's a tavern. I enjoyed this experience and will be back. Maybe next week. Upon walking in, we were greeted by a friendly gentlemen and sat at a table along the wall. Between the 3 of us, we had the French Dip, grilled turkey and cheese and a burger. The grilled cheese, though they only had American cheese, was great! The French Dip was very good and the burger, I was told, turned out to be better, after first bite. The menu has your typical pub food, not what I'd expect to get at a tavern. I recommend checking this place out. Be warned...it truly is a tavern, but not as bad as it looks. Service was good and waitress was friendly. there was sediment in the bottom of my draft beer and it tasted old. food was terrible, Steak ordered med. rare and delivered well done. Wow! What a great little place in the middle of beautiful Palouse wheat country! Run lovingly by a friendly husband and wife, it's one of the only places open late in Colfax - but even if there were a ton of choices, the food is tasty and the company is super friendly. I had the BLT, soft white bread perfectly toasted, with yummy bacon and fresh lettuce and tomato. The chicken strips and fries were also great. We got to meet and chat with many locals, truly easygoing and friendly. Extremely inexpensive small town prices too! read more

If you look up small town tavern in the dictionary you should find a picture of Hyde Out Tavern! When you walk in you get that friendly neighborhood pub feel, complete with yummy burgers and a pool room. They have 2 awesome homemade fry sauces that you should try, but hands down the best part about this place is the service. A good sense of humor, and a love for their establishment and patrons abound, both in behavior and the funny signs hung around this adorable place. read more

We love this place. It's our cheap date night. The couple that own it and tend bar and cook are awesome and friendly. The food is so much better than you would expect. It's really the best bet in town if you don't feel like pizza or mexican. The fries are awesome and they make these really great sauces to go with them. Good margaritas and drinks too at reasonable prices. Hours they are open vary a little bit. read more

The Hyde Out used to be disgusting, but now is so delicious. Anytime I plan a lunch date, the Hyde Out is where I'm going. They also just obtained their liquor license, which is a plus. read more

This is the kind of place that Guy Fieri raves about on his "Diners, Dives & Drive-Ins" tv show. In dining here on two successive nights, the 4 of us enjoyed bacon cheeseburgers, a chili burger, hot wings, rib eye streak, New York strip steaks, and hot wings again. Wow!!!! to both the quality of the food, and the prices! We drank beer, and didn't see any wine available. We stayed two nights at Wheatland Inn (another plus rating I need to make), and told the desk staff to send their questioning guests here for meals. On our second night back to the hotel after dining, we encountered two visitors heading downtown for dinner from the hotel. They asked us where we ate, and we of course, recommended they go to the Hyde-Out. In addition to a great hotel stay and great meals, we also enjoyed the views from Steptoe Butte, just 12 miles north of Colfax. The Palouse is beautiful! read more

This is a great local bar for a drink and/or lunch/dinner. This is an old fashioned bar with booth and table and chair additional seating. The owners Gale and Liz are are fun and personable. they offer a full bar along with beer, microbreer and wine. Food ranges from salads to steak, sandwiches, fish and chips and soup. Everything I've had there is great! A place to stop by especially in the evening for fun and flavor!! read more
