Alrighty then we were coming from Fredericksburg to Stonewall and my GPS said take a left on RR 1623. It should be reading RR 1623 N. Which We had to call the restaurant itself to get directions since we are not locals. We tried several different things on the menu including the fried chicken, the papaya salad, spring rolls, and beef and broccoli. We love the chicken and the spring rolls. Only two of us like the papaya salad, which is very sour which was delicious. The beef and broccoli the beef was pretty tough . The flavors were great and the service was excellent. I would like to go back my sister-in-law not so much. We did order one of the soups to go, but they were unable to come up with the ingredients or something. We don't know the result of that just that we did not get the soup. read more

Been going to Hye Thai since it was in a small track at Hye Cider. Came by for lunch today while in town. Ordered the chili garlic udon with a double order of fried chicken for my protein. The amount of food that came out was impressive.. The spice was perfect, the fried chicken was some of the crispiest and most flavorful fried chicken that I've ever had. Everything was fantastic. You wouldn't expect excellent Thai food in this area of Texas but it really is great cuisine. read more

So fresh and delicious! The owners were also super friendly! Was surprised to see a Thai restaurant in Johnson City but was craving Thai food so decided to stop in and try. The Pad Thai had the perfect texture and spices. The fresh spring rolls were so fresh and just melted in my mouth. I've worked in Thailand and our family has traveled all over Thailand. Hye Thai continues to impress. Ordering ahead is so easy, and highly recommended to minimize the wait and ensure you get your choice. Their site lets you customize your order and level of heat, and even tells you what they're running low on. If you don't see the customization you're looking for, it's worth calling ahead to ask. It's kind of amazing that you can get great Thai food in the middle of the Texas Hill Country. I'm a big fan of their Pad Thai with beef as well as the Crying Tiger ribeye steak. The portion sizes are nice too - I almost always have enough leftovers to make another meal the next day. Highly recommended. read more

I went TWICE last weekend and I'll definitely be back! We had the chili udon noodles, curry fried rice with fried chicken, Brussels sprouts, spring rolls, the shrimp roll, and green curry. Everything was amazing! The portion sizes are generous and the flavor is on point. I was told that starting at level 4 they add habaneros. A level 5 is double a level 4 and a level 6 is double a level 5! The level 3 udon was spicier that the level 3 curry. I'll probably do a level 4 next time. I'm already craving it again and it's only been a week! read more

I had the fried chicken here along with the cider flight from Hye Cider, next door. It was really good, hot and tasty. Service was friendly and fast and it's a really nice spot to eat and drink, with plenty of shade, ample parking and seating and under cover areas with local art and patio heaters here and there if it gets cold out. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. I would post a pic of the chicken but i demolished it before remembering to get my phone out There's often live music and brunch drink specials at Hye Cider, like 20 feet away. It was a bit crowded when we were there, but our food came out promptly. By the time they came around to ask if it was okay though it was too late to do anything about it. I ordered a level 3 on the heat scale but it was waaayyyy to hot. My husband got the level 4 and he was okay with his. Mine seemed about like his dish, perhaps they were cooked together. A truly hidden gem along the famous highway 290 winery trail. This place is delivering excellent this food for affordable prices without pretense. We ordered the red curry and bahn mi and both were phenomenal! The bahn mi roll was perfectly crusty and filled with succulent pork, pate, jalapeno and pickled veggies. It was the best I have had in a long time. The red curry (chicken) was immensely flavorfull and so we'll balanced. The inclusion of rice with the super flavorfull broth/sauce made this a meal unto itself. Best food in the area, fredericksburg included. I got the tofu pad Thai and it was ok. The tofu as well as the noodles seemed burnt and that was the main flavor with the underlying typical pad Thai flavor coming through just a little. Very generous portion sizes. The green papaya salad was completely soaked in (too much) fish sauce. Pad thai was okay, but slightly too sweet. Stir fry was okay, a lot more vegetables than meat. This is the second Thai food place we have found in Hill Country, and we haven't been disappointed either time! We were at the gelato shop next door when we saw the sang. We had desert before dinner, it nothing wrong with that. The outside seating was a little windy, but there was an indoor option. The service was personal and every question we had was answered. We've eaten at Hye Thai all three times we've visited Stonewall / Fredericksburg over the last three years. The food is delicious and the portions are huge (good for after a long day of wineries!). We've tried the fried rice, the curry, and the pad Thai. We've also had several of the apps. They've all been great. It's located right off the main strip and is easy to take to-go, or they have ample space inside and out for dining in if you prefer. It's an order-at-the-counter spot. Highly recommend Hye Thai!
