    Shrimp extravaganza
    Mark D.

Food and service were fantastic. Wait staff very helpful with ordering, shrimp extravaganza was great, owners stopped and chatted us up. Great experience and reasonably priced.

Overall, this is a decent seafood restaurant with a great atmosphere and excellent service. The owners even stopped by our table to ask for feedback, which was a nice touch and showed they genuinely care about their customers. The standout item was definitely the Boom Boom Shrimp--absolutely delicious and something I would come back for again. The hush puppies were also amazing and among the best parts of the meal. On the downside, the Shrimp and Grits were just okay. In a city known for great Shrimp and Grits, this version didn't stand out and wasn't among the best I've had in Charleston. The Bloody Mary was also disappointing. If it weren't for the Shrimp and Grits and Bloody Mary, I would easily give this place 5 stars. The atmosphere, service, Boom Boom Shrimp, and hush puppies were all excellent. Overall, it's worth a visit for seafood.

This was honestly one of the best places I have ever been to. It is seriously a place wish Yelp would let me rate it more than 5 stars. We are from out of town and saw this place and went here. There was a bunch of people sitting outdoors like us waiting for a good bit before any times to be able to come in since it's packed. As soon as we went in the vibe was cool to see and then our waiter was seriously one of the top of the top throughout the whole country. He was actually more than perfect about everything and we were all amazed at him and were all amazing at how the taste of the food was. One of the owners even walked up and spoke to us too and he was seriously wonderful too. I do promise that if you are near this area ever that you should go here and even though when you walk up and they say it may be a long time before you can be seated, still just wait to do so because it is worth it for sure.

I walked past and saw there was a line... not often am I a solo diner, and they said there's no wait if I'm okay sitting at the bar! I ordered the fried shrimp po boy to-go! The bartender was really hustling, shoutout to her. She took multiple orders right after making several drinks in a row, went to check on different food, while another customer was asking for the bill. The bar counter shift is not for the weak!! My order was done quick too; I'd say say I got my order within 7 minutes from the time I ordered!! It comes with a TON of fried shrimp, so portions are generous. It's a choose your own adventure when it comes to sauce - I really liked the tartare sauce personally. I also really liked their small side of coleslaw.

If you're visiting Hyman's Seafood, be ready for true Southern charm from the moment you walk in. It's family-owned, and Victor, the owner, personally greeted everyone as soon as we were seated, which made the experience feel extra warm and welcoming. They start you off with complimentary boiled peanuts--perfectly salted and cooked for hours until tender and full of flavor. The hush puppies were just as delicious, also complimentary, and even handed out to customers waiting in line outside, which was such a nice touch. I wasn't very hungry but still wanted to try some Southern comfort food, so I ordered the fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits. The grits were creamy and absolutely delicious, and the fried green tomatoes were crispy and full of flavor. My sister had the clam chowder and crab legs, and both were amazing--fresh, well-prepared, and packed with flavor. For dessert, we shared the key lime pie. It was smooth, perfectly balanced, and not overly tart. Great food, generous portions, and genuine hospitality--definitely a spot worth visiting in Charleston.

Food was outstanding. If you're looking for a great classic fried fish place. This is it. Service was phenomenal. It's a family run business and the owner came up and introduced himself and walked us through everything. His son made sure we were happy with everything midway through the meal. It's a fun location and ambiance represents that. Quality and quantity of food was wonderful. Waiter was super chill

When my wife and I first arrived in Charleston, our Uber driver gave us some advice. He told us to skip the Italian restaurants, but make sure we eat plenty of seafood! I'm not sure about the Italian places, but seafood restaurants here are awesome and Hyman's is at the top of the list. There's always a line outside here and on a Saturday night, we waited about 45 minutes for a table (no reservations here). They first give you samples of the hush puppies when you're waiting and they're delicious! Once you're seated, they serve you a plate of boiled peanuts, this is the first time I've had this. When you get around to the menu, there are so many choices! We started off with the Carolina Delight which our server said they're known for. These shrimp and grits were fried up into delicious cakes, truly unique! Next I had a bowl of the She Crab soup. This may have been one of the best soups I've ever had! As an entree, I had the Southern Croquettes made with Chilean Sea Bass and my wife had Shrimp Scampi. So much food, you won't walk out hungry! There are pictures of celebrities everywhere here and plaques on the tables of where they are. I sat in the same spot as Rick Pitino. I hope that means good luck for St. John's in the tournament!

Hymans is a happening place packed with a ton of people waiting to get in. The staff was very nice and accomodating. There is an extensive menu of fish and all types of food including kosher food. Our salmon dishes which were offered in a variety of sauces to pick from. The portions were nice sized. Upon leaving the restaurant you go through a general store where you can merchandise detailing the restaurant. The prices were very reasonable for our dishes considering how expensive food is in Charleston.

We found this place after the Charleston Market, and OMG, it was PHENOMENAL!! Ashley made our lunch 50 times better! He not only gave us great food recommendations but also suggested some fantastic spots around the city! The food was just as incredible! We had the hush puppies, the Wadmalaw delight, Nola-style shrimp, and the bourbon glaze salmon! We are definitely coming back!!

Took my mom to Charleston for the first time, and she said she wanted to try Hyman's seafood. We had such a great time. Everyone who worked there customer service the crap out of us the entire time! Clifton was an excellent server and took great care of us. They loaded us up with appetizers and they were all delicious. The hush puppies were phenomenal. The fried green tomatoes and grits were so savory. Our meal was great, but honestly, the appetizers came out a little more hot and tasted a little bit better than the food, not to say the food was bad for the meal, but the appetizers hit for us more than our main courses did. We had such a good time and the staff really took care of us and it was a great old feel in the building. We even saw that Lynyrd Skynyrd and Paula Dean had eaten at the same table we had.

    Karo R.

I fell in love with this place and it's staff. The service here was absolutely amazing, we sat at the bar and both server and bartender were soooooooo cool. The food was good. You have to try the glazed brussels sprouts- -they were amazing. I was really surprised that I significant other enjoy the crabcakes at this place, being from Baltimore and never likes anyone else's crab cakes.-lol The drinks were also good, I tried their version of cajun seasoning around the rim of my margarita, it was good. I would definitely recommend this place if you're visiting Charleston.

We visited Hyman's Seafood during our Charleston trip after hearing so much about it. The ambiance was definitely one of the highlights. The restaurant has a really unique and lively atmosphere, and it was fun seeing the tables tag by celebrities and notable visitors who have eaten there over the years. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming, and the service throughout the meal was genuinely good. The food itself was decent and enjoyable, but honestly felt pretty normal compared to the level of hype around the restaurant. Considering we waited over an hour and a half for a table, it didn't quite feel worth the wait. It was also a little confusing seeing some tables empty while so many people were still waiting outside. Overall, it's a cool spot to experience at least once for the atmosphere and history, but the food alone probably wouldn't make us wait that long again.

Such a great time chatting it up!

The Service, food, and entire meal was incredible. From hearing the family's story to taking a selfie with th current get running the business it was a fantastic time, one that we will definitely take part in again when back in Charleston. To start Abigail, our waitress, was attentive, helpful, super sweet and just about the best waitress I have ever had. My wife and I ordered a round of cocktails, expecting the usual great description with subsequent lack luster drinks. Last night was different, midnight bloom which is their take on an old fashioned, but really in a different league; Smooth complex, and satisfying. My wife got the Ruby Ruby which is sort of a pomegranate martini with champagne. Refreshing and vibrant. For appetizers we had the blue crab fritters and the pork belly. The fritters were crispy, light, and full of crab flavor. Virtually no filler. I could have eaten a hundred. The pork belly was crispy, and rich without being too heavy. They also serve it in a white sauce that I was still thinking about the next day. For entrees we got the Roasted grouper and the pork shank. The grouper was maybe a bit overcooked and dry, but the accompanying butter beans stole the show. The were rich, and layered with flavor. I will never see the simple butter bean in the same way ever again. The pork was fall off the bone tender without being dry. The sauce it was served in was a masterpiece. There were hints of apple, berry, cinnamon, and many other notes, I would drink it by the glass if it was available. We split the gelato for dessert. Pure delight. Smooth, bursting with flavor, and leaving you wanting for more. All in all, except for a small misstep with the cook on the grouper a near perfect dinner. I would go there soon because a Michelin star can not be far off, and then getting a table will be a near impossibility.

The first meal we had was a bit of a work/get together meal. We ordered an assortment of items off of the menu and created a more tapas menu. The charcuterie board we picked the cheeses for and it was lovely. All as expected and quite surprised to find a cheddar I enjoyed. Came with some grapes, figs, nuts, honey and I think mustard. Glazed carrots were phenomenal. Heartily enjoyed the beet salad and thought the presentation was quite pretty. Lamb lettuce wraps are alright. Not my favorite of all the dishes served but delivered as promised, nicely cooked and presented. Spouse really liked the lamb wraps and were a stand out dish to them. Meatballs are excellent truly great texture and flavor. Escargot was a fun take on a classic dish. Finished with a unique strudel in its presentation it was quite pleasant. Spouse liked the peanut butter chocolate dessert. For brunch, I had the carrot ginger soup. Which I must say was a total delight. The soup had the hallmark texture and base flavor of the carrot ginger but it had a beautiful breath of savory and some heat seasoning wise to it. It was quite an elevated soup and heartily enjoyed! I followed the carrot soup with a French toast. I am all for softly scrambled eggs but the French toast was a touch undercooked. (I did not let the restaurant know or give them the chance to make right. I regularly eat soft boiled eggs and soft scrambled so I felt comfortable with consuming them.) Strawberries were ripe and tasty. The whipped cream was gorgeous in thickness and flavor. One in law had the caesar salad with croutons and grilled chicken. Their bowl was left clean so while they are not the talkative of sorts they did seem to enjoy it. Ordered a baguette with butter. Unfortunately the butter never made it to the table but the baguette was enjoyed. Spouse had the Azur burger with the side of tapas style potatoes. All was cooked properly to temperature and texture. Flavor and taste as promised. Wasn't their favorite dish at Azur as we had tried so many lovely dishes a few evenings before. But it did deliver on what was represented in the menu. Other in law had the quiche and a side salad. They liked the quiche and would order it again.

Again, we weren't causing a problem, weren't loud, weren't disruptive. This was a group of 8, most of us well into our 40s (or older). But they were telling all guests to leave at 1:45a?? Just after we bought drinks? The posted hours say they close at 2a. Not 1:45a. Most of us left half finished drinks. The large bouncer was nice enough, the tiny one in a hoodie with glasses was totally unprofessional. So beware. The Blind Tiger has what it takes to remain a Charleston institution. Their staff, might ruin that chance.

The service was excellent -- polished, warm, and confidently attentive without ever feeling overdone. They know how to make a night feel special. And let me just say: the wine selection was excellent. Thoughtful pours, great bottles, and spot‑on pairing guidance. It felt curated, not crowded. Our table went in on a mix of dishes, and every single one delivered: * Waldorf salad -- crisp, bright, and beautifully balanced * Cioppino -- rich, aromatic, and full of tender seafood * Elevated swordfish -- perfectly cooked with that refined, coastal flair * Mussels -- tender, fragrant, and deeply seasoned * Filet mignon -- melt‑in‑your‑mouth and plated like a little moment High Cotton blends Southern charm with fine‑dining finesse, and it shows in every detail. My group left happy, impressed, and already planning the next visit. Charleston has plenty of great restaurants -- but High Cotton knows how to make you feel like you chose the right one.

We frequently dine at many of the higher-end restaurants in downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant,…read moreso we arrived with high expectations, especially given this restaurant's connection to the Halls group. The dining room is beautiful, and the ambiance is excellent. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality level or price point of the restaurant. When entrées range from $65-$70 for fish, $80+ for steaks, and side dishes approach $14 or more, guests reasonably expect an elevated and attentive dining experience. Throughout the evening, our server seemed rushed and disengaged. Despite our efforts to be friendly and conversational, interactions felt brief and transactional. A drink order was delivered incorrectly, and rather than improving as the meal progressed, the service became increasingly impersonal. We never felt particularly welcomed or valued as guests. A special night out with a $300-$400 check should feel memorable for the right reasons. While the food and atmosphere were good, the overall experience fell short of what we have come to expect from restaurants operating in this category and at this price level. We are glad we gave it a try, but in the future we'll likely choose other Charleston-area restaurants that deliver a more polished and hospitality-focused experience when entertaining family and friends from out of town.
