This was honestly one of the best places I have ever been to. It is seriously a place wish Yelp would let me rate it more than 5 stars. We are from out of town and saw this place and went here. There was a bunch of people sitting outdoors like us waiting for a good bit before any times to be able to come in since it's packed. As soon as we went in the vibe was cool to see and then our waiter was seriously one of the top of the top throughout the whole country. He was actually more than perfect about everything and we were all amazed at him and were all amazing at how the taste of the food was. One of the owners even walked up and spoke to us too and he was seriously wonderful too. I do promise that if you are near this area ever that you should go here and even though when you walk up and they say it may be a long time before you can be seated, still just wait to do so because it is worth it for sure.

We visited Hyman's Seafood during our Charleston trip after hearing so much about it. The ambiance was definitely one of the highlights. The restaurant has a really unique and lively atmosphere, and it was fun seeing the tables tag by celebrities and notable visitors who have eaten there over the years. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming, and the service throughout the meal was genuinely good. The food itself was decent and enjoyable, but honestly felt pretty normal compared to the level of hype around the restaurant. Considering we waited over an hour and a half for a table, it didn't quite feel worth the wait. It was also a little confusing seeing some tables empty while so many people were still waiting outside. Overall, it's a cool spot to experience at least once for the atmosphere and history, but the food alone probably wouldn't make us wait that long again.

Such a great time chatting it up!

The Service, food, and entire meal was incredible. From hearing the family's story to taking a selfie with th current get running the business it was a fantastic time, one that we will definitely take part in again when back in Charleston. Ordered: She Crab Soup - Best in the state Oysters - Amazing per normal for SC Lobster tails - Fresh and tasty

If you're visiting Hyman's Seafood, be ready for true Southern charm from the moment you walk in. It's family-owned, and Victor, the owner, personally greeted everyone as soon as we were seated, which made the experience feel extra warm and welcoming. They start you off with complimentary boiled peanuts--perfectly salted and cooked for hours until tender and full of flavor. The hush puppies were just as delicious, also complimentary, and even handed out to customers waiting in line outside, which was such a nice touch. I wasn't very hungry but still wanted to try some Southern comfort food, so I ordered the fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits. The grits were creamy and absolutely delicious, and the fried green tomatoes were crispy and full of flavor. My sister had the clam chowder and crab legs, and both were amazing--fresh, well-prepared, and packed with flavor. For dessert, we shared the key lime pie. It was smooth, perfectly balanced, and not overly tart. Great food, generous portions, and genuine hospitality--definitely a spot worth visiting in Charleston.

I walked past and saw there was a line... not often am I a solo diner, and they said there's no wait if I'm okay sitting at the bar! I ordered the fried shrimp po boy to-go! The bartender was really hustling, shoutout to her. She took multiple orders right after making several drinks in a row, went to check on different food, while another customer was asking for the bill. The bar counter shift is not for the weak!! My order was done quick too; I'd say say I got my order within 7 minutes from the time I ordered!! It comes with a TON of fried shrimp, so portions are generous. It's a choose your own adventure when it comes to sauce - I really liked the tartare sauce personally. I also really liked their small side of coleslaw.

When my wife and I first arrived in Charleston, our Uber driver gave us some advice. He told us to skip the Italian restaurants, but make sure we eat plenty of seafood! I'm not sure about the Italian places, but seafood restaurants here are awesome and Hyman's is at the top of the list. There's always a line outside here and on a Saturday night, we waited about 45 minutes for a table (no reservations here). They first give you samples of the hush puppies when you're waiting and they're delicious! Once you're seated, they serve you a plate of boiled peanuts, this is the first time I've had this. When you get around to the menu, there are so many choices! We started off with the Carolina Delight which our server said they're known for. These shrimp and grits were fried up into delicious cakes, truly unique! Next I had a bowl of the She Crab soup. This may have been one of the best soups I've ever had! As an entree, I had the Southern Croquettes made with Chilean Sea Bass and my wife had Shrimp Scampi. So much food, you won't walk out hungry! There are pictures of celebrities everywhere here and plaques on the tables of where they are. I sat in the same spot as Rick Pitino. I hope that means good luck for St. John's in the tournament!

Took my mom to Charleston for the first time, and she said she wanted to try Hyman's seafood. We had such a great time. Everyone who worked there customer service the crap out of us the entire time! Clifton was an excellent server and took great care of us. They loaded us up with appetizers and they were all delicious. The hush puppies were phenomenal. The fried green tomatoes and grits were so savory. Our meal was great, but honestly, the appetizers came out a little more hot and tasted a little bit better than the food, not to say the food was bad for the meal, but the appetizers hit for us more than our main courses did. We had such a good time and the staff really took care of us and it was a great old feel in the building. We even saw that Lynyrd Skynyrd and Paula Dean had eaten at the same table we had.

I fell in love with this place and it's staff. The service here was absolutely amazing, we sat at the bar and both server and bartender were soooooooo cool. The food was good. You have to try the glazed brussels sprouts- -they were amazing. I was really surprised that I significant other enjoy the crabcakes at this place, being from Baltimore and never likes anyone else's crab cakes.-lol The drinks were also good, I tried their version of cajun seasoning around the rim of my margarita, it was good. I would definitely recommend this place if you're visiting Charleston.

    NOLA Style Shrimp

The food at Hyman's was absolutely worth the wait--so if the long line makes you hesitate, don't let it. Management brought out hush puppies and alcoholic slushy samples while we waited to be seated, which was a great touch. I ordered the 1 lb. of NOLA‑style shrimp, and it was incredible. My wife had the Low‑Country boil, and the portion was generous enough for two full meals. We were served by Maddie, who was attentive, friendly, and always timely with anything we needed. One of the owners also made rounds to each table, chatting with guests and making sure everything met their standards, which added a personal, welcoming feel. The ambiance is unlike anywhere else--walls covered with photos of celebrities who've visited, plus name plaques on the tables where they sat, which adds a fun bit of character. While we were there, we even saw one of the owners handing out free ice‑cream vouchers to kids and giving out meals to go for members of the homeless community. Overall, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish.

She crab soup and Cole slaw

Sometimes the tourist hotspot gets it very right. I thought Hyman's, from the food to the decor to the general store that they very ingeniously make you walk through after your meal to the "conversation starter" cards on your table, was a total hoot. One thing's for sure, you won't be bored during your meal here. For starters, the menu is basically a novel, with multiple variations of seafood. We were having an early dinner so I showed some serious self-restraint by getting a cup of the Charleston classic, the she crab soup, and a side of cole slaw. For my first time trying it, the she crab soup was ... interesting. Adding sherry definitely elevated the flavor. It was thick and chock full of crab meat but something was missing, maybe some acid or heat. I preferred my friend's New England-style chowder. Our waitress was actually the best part of our meal. Warm and funny, she started off with pointing out the literal array of sauces on the table (including a magic sauce that I put on everything), giving us a free plate of their boiled peanuts and hush puppies, and also giving us a complimentary appetizer of their fried green tomatoes and creamy grits (the Wadmalaw Delight). Though I think you can get either or both of those dishes by scanning a QR code. Still, we appreciated the kind gesture - loved trying a small bit of everything. The portion sizes are enormous. Come hungry or I recommend sharing one of the plates. And take a look at the convo cards, they're hilarious.

Simple but good is what the table next to me described it and that description was spot on. They don't take reservations so we had about a 15 minute wait, while outside we were offered a hush puppy that was one of the best hush puppies I've had in my life it was hot, crispy and perfect. However, inside they served them instead of bread and they were cold and just okay. I got the she-crab soup, New Orleans shrimp and shrimp & grits. Everything could've used a little more seasoning for my taste. The bread that came with the New Orleans shrimp was unfortunately cold. The service was excellent, one of the owners came around to make sure everything was going well and was very personable. The food I'd give 3 stars but how great the service was made it 4 stars.

We had a wonderful experience this evening at Hymans. The food was amazing. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass croquettes, they were absolutely wonderful. Our server had us try their outstanding hush puppies and fried green tomatoes and grits, we sent the plate back clean. The fried green tomatoes were crisp and the grits were creamy. The service was excellent. One of the owners, Tobias even stopped by our table to sure we were well and enjoying our dinner. The ambiance was cozy, we felt like we were dining with family in this classic fifth generation restaurant, with an extensive menu from seafood to po boys, to pasta, and so much more. I definitely look forward to returning, there's a few other items on the menu that I need to try. Dinner was a treat!

We stopped in just for a quick drink on our way to a carriage ride. We asked about the food and was told it was very delicious. There was someone outside, giving out hush puppies and let me tell you, if we weren't gonna stop in we would after I tasted those pups. They had me at hush puppies. This is a very casual, what you would expect wooden bar with a family/regular feel. Well, I cannot review their food other than those wonderful pups, I would definitely recommend wedding your whistle at this place

To start Abigail, our waitress, was attentive, helpful, super sweet and just about the best waitress I have ever had. Last night was different, midnight bloom which is their take on an old fashioned, but really in a different league; Smooth complex, and satisfying. My wife got the Ruby Ruby which is sort of a pomegranate martini with champagne. Refreshing and vibrant. For appetizers we had the blue crab fritters and the pork belly. The fritters were crispy, light, and full of crab flavor. Virtually no filler. I could have eaten a hundred. The pork belly was crispy, and rich without being too heavy. They also serve it in a white sauce that I was still thinking about the next day. For entrees we got the Roasted grouper and the pork shank. The grouper was maybe a bit overcooked and dry, but the accompanying butter beans stole the show. The were rich, and layered with flavor. I will never see the simple butter bean in the same way ever again. The pork was fall off the bone tender without being dry. The sauce it was served in was a masterpiece. There were hints of apple, berry, cinnamon, and many other notes, I would drink it by the glass if it was available. We split the gelato for dessert. Pure delight. Smooth, bursting with flavor, and leaving you wanting for more. All in all, except for a small misstep with the cook on the grouper a near perfect dinner. Nice list of 3 mocktails so even if not consuming alcohol one can look to play the part at the table and enjoy the flavor notes of a well made cocktail. The first meal we had was a bit of a work/get together meal. We ordered an assortment of items off of the menu and created a more tapas menu. The charcuterie board we picked the cheeses for and it was lovely. All as expected and quite surprised to find a cheddar I enjoyed. Came with some grapes, figs, nuts, honey and I think mustard. Glazed carrots were phenomenal. Heartily enjoyed the beet salad and thought the presentation was quite pretty. Lamb lettuce wraps are alright. Not my favorite of all the dishes served but delivered as promised, nicely cooked and presented. Spouse really liked the lamb wraps and were a stand out dish to them. Meatballs are excellent truly great texture and flavor. Escargot was a fun take on a classic dish. Finished with a unique strudel in its presentation it was quite pleasant. Spouse liked the peanut butter chocolate dessert. For brunch, I had the carrot ginger soup. Which I must say was a total delight. The soup had the hallmark texture and base flavor of the carrot ginger but it had a beautiful breath of savory and some heat seasoning wise to it. It was quite an elevated soup and heartily enjoyed! I followed the carrot soup with a French toast. I am all for softly scrambled eggs but the French toast was a touch undercooked. (I did not let the restaurant know or give them the chance to make right. I regularly eat soft boiled eggs and soft scrambled so I felt comfortable with consuming them.) We've been traveling around here for four days, This was the bottom of the barrel. Furthermore, I believe most of these reviews came from family and friends not honest customers..

Popped in here for our last night in Charleston. We didn't know what to expect but was impressed to…read moresee how big it was once we stepped inside. The back opens up to another bar with outdoor seating, very cool. The bartender out back took our drinks, I forgot her name but she was from California originally, La Jolla area? Anyways, very friendly and was attentive even with all the guests in need. We hung out for hours, meeting locals and enjoying drinks. Decided to order food and they had a cheese dip that was spot on. My wife ordered the steak salad and the steak was overcooked, but when asked how things were, they were quick to make it right, and brought out another steak to fix the issue. 5 stars! I hope they see this review and know that they are doing something right. I do wish they had better merch. I wanted to buy stuff but was told their shirts shrink quite a bit after washing. Bummer.

Listen, it's a great bar. The courtyard is nice. There is an ample amount of options for drinks…read more But... What does that matter if you're ushered out before closing? A group of about 8 of us went out for drinks Saturday (5/2/26). We were having a great time (respectful, quiet, not causing a problem). Last call hit at 1:30 so we decided one more drink before we went our ways home. 10 mins later we're were asked to leave the courtyard and head inside - not a problem. We will finish our drinks inside. 5 minutes after that, we were asked to take our last sips and leave. 15 mins before the posted closing time. Again, we weren't causing a problem, weren't loud, weren't disruptive. This was a group of 8, most of us well into our 40s (or older). But they were telling all guests to leave at 1:45a?? Just after we bought drinks? The posted hours say they close at 2a. Not 1:45a. Most of us left half finished drinks. The large bouncer was nice enough, the tiny one in a hoodie with glasses was totally unprofessional. So beware. The Blind Tiger has what it takes to remain a Charleston institution. Their staff, might ruin that chance.

At first we were irritated…read morebecause our 11:15AM reservation had a delay in being seated (and we were on a time crunch), but honestly, everything afterwards was so good, I almost forgot about it! We were up front with staff about needing to be done by 12:45pm, and they 100% delivered! We were seated at a gorgeous table right by the windows. We loved the decor and overall ambiance, with classic Charleston paintings on the walls. The fans in the main room are also very pretty! For cocktails, we got peach nectar mimosas: SO GOOD!!! Our friends got Bloody Mary's, which they also enjoyed. For appetizers, my sister got a cup of the creamy crab soup (SO GOOD!) and we shared the crispy calamari (also good!) for my main, I ordered the Eggs Benedict with cheesy grits, my sister ordered the Crab Eggs Benedict with potato hash, and our friends ordered the High Cotton Cinnamon Roll, egg whites omelet, and the chicken and waffles. Honestly, everything was EXCELLENT. Good flavor, attentive service, and fabulous locale!! The servers are also so professional and neatly dressed! You truly feel like you are in a high-end restaurant in every sense. We would 100% return here on another trip to Charleston! Our friends treated us to this brunch, so I don't know the bill total! But believe me when I say that it's worth it!!
