This is your typical ice cream store in Scottsdale. The outside looked more of a corporate office space than an ice cream parlor. I haven't had Haagen Dazs in a long time and was exhausted by walking around all day. There were only a couple of people inside. The staff was mostly walking around with not much to do. The prices were very high for ice cream. It was around $10 for a milkshake and $7 for a scoop. I guess you are paying for the high-quality ice cream but it seemed average to me. I ordered a milk shake to enjoy inside. It was nice at first but didn't seem to match the high prices. Later in the evening there was more traffic. Cute ice-cream store in old town Scottsdale. Great tourist location with lots of foot traffic. Most people think that Haagen-Dazs is European ice cream and it is not. The name was invented by the original owner Reuben Mattus as he wanted the name to sound Danish. And the name means absolutely nothing. It is created and made in the USA. This particular store is nice and clean. Selection is good. However, I do not understand why ice cream has wheat added to it? So if you are gluten intolerant, you cannot do this ice-cream. Just like their ice cream elsewhere, it is creamy and rich. An example is their Caramel Cone: not only was it creamy and rich, but the chocolatey cone pieces were still crunchy! After taking out a loan to buy a "mini" scoop in a fancy cone for each of my two kids, I was able to take in the cleanliness and beauty this place is compared to the sketchy joint across the street. We attempted the Sugar Bowl for a little nostalgia but stood at the counter to order for 10 minutes and no one even made eye contact. Hard to miss four people, two kids sitting on the diner seats, but anyway. Maybe they were annoyed that we were wearing masks. Would've been cheaper, but the quality would've been a lot lower than Haagen Dazs. Back to the real deal: Haagen Dazs is legit. Most of these negative reviews seem to be about the price... Go across the street to Sugar Bowl or Shakes and Cones, you'll probably pay more for less. We love coming to Haagen Daaz. Sometimes there is a little line but the employees are efficient and get through it pretty quickly. The employees don't talk much, but they do their job great.
