Stopped by Shakes & Cones in Old Town Scottsdale and it did not disappoint! I ordered the Nutty Buddy and it was yummy. I love peanuts with ice cream so this was perfect. Portions are very generous, so definitely come hungry (or ready to share). Service here was like walking up to a best friends workplace and being served by them. So many yummy treats to try. It will be hard to choose. Location is near restaurants and old town. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Shakes and Cones has a great location--you can easily walk downtown Scottsdale--but the menu could use a clearer setup.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free options aren't obvious: A simple color-coded system would help a lot with their extensive menu. I have had the vegan gluten free mint chocolate chip shake twice and gave it four stars--glad they have the vegan option, though the chocolate chips were quite crunchy and accumulate at the bottom at the end. I ask for rainbow sprinkles on top to make it more fun, otherwise it looks a bit plain. Their vegan soft serve is tasty but more airy than filling compared to other vegan ice creams I've tried. Fun! I popped by the shakes and cone tonight in old town. In the words of my 13 year old this is Buss'n! We also tired the Biscoff cookie butter shake. It had pieces of biscoff cookies and it tasted like Trader Joe's cookie butter. My husband and I were in the area and craving some ice cream - I found Shakes & Cones on Yelp, and I'm glad we did! There was a fairly long line, but we didn't wait long. My husband had a chocolate/vanilla twist waffle cone - it was delicious! I normally don't like vanilla ice cream, but this was so yummy!! The cone tasted fresh as well. I opted for the waffle chips and soft serve - kind of like ice cream nachos. They were really good, but we definitely needed to share - it was a huge portion for the price! It was a hot-ish day and after walking around and me hobbling around with an arthritic knee; stopping for some ice cream seemed like the thing to do. It's a walk up location that states that they have organic ice cream. They offer five daily flavors of soft serve: Chocolate, Vanilla, Twist, Strawberry, a non-dairy vegan Vanilla (made with coconut milk), and Lemon Sorbet. My son got a vanilla cone (dipped), my wife got strawberry in a cup, and I got a peanut butter and cookie dough shake. They have some interesting shakes and to get the most flavor, I had to go with the peanut butter. Wow! I gotta say, the organic, vegan ice cream was awesome! I'm lactose intolerant and I didn't need to take a Lactaid pill because it's vegan. And delicious. You never get both, but lo and behold, they sure figured it out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And this place was busy. I was amazed there wasn't another ice cream shoppe in this touristy area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Kudos to Shakes & Cones for putting out a great product that's easy on the wallet. If I could give 6 stars to Shakes & Cones I would. What is a kiosk operation (as you order from the street) turns out is a culinary delight. With dairy and vegan ice cream choices alike, with fantastic quality, there is something for everyone. Service is great as they helped me navigate extensive menu and their recommendations were fantastic. I decided on having vegan cookie butter ice cream with vegan whipped cream. Justin was very enthusiastic in recommending it, and to be honest this is the best ice cream I ever had. Special thanks to him. While seating is street-side of which I am no fan, the quality of ice cream, and friendliness of staff more than makes up for it!!!!! read more

Honestly the one star is for convenience and friendly staff. That was good. It's also quick and easy if you're wanting icecream on the go. The icecream itself is extremely mid. I'm sorry it just tasted bland and I got the cake and icecream cup. The cake was also not flavorful and very dry. The biscoff shake we got was also pretty flavorless and not something to write home about. I want to love it but I can't sadly. Maybe if the owner wasn't so offended by an honest review I'd come back to see if the dry cake and flavorless icecream was a fluke...there are more options on this road with higher ratings though, so I'll put my money elsewhere. read more

4.5 Stars Shakes & Cones is truly a gem in Old Town! The convenience of the counter service is what makes this place so easy to order a snack and go. They have a few tables on the sidewalk in front of the store. Mic check, one - two. Mic check ONE TWO, ahem can you hear me?!?! Shakes and Cones has Dairy Free options!! My favorite by far is the dairy-free vanilla shake with fresh strawberries mixed in. It's the best vegan strawberry shake I've had so far! Don't set your heart one one item if you plan on coming back, they have plenty of great options! The only downside, it's Old Town Scottsdale. Parking and crowds can be a challenge. I live 2 blocks away so tried it out once a year ago and loved the product but the customer service turned me away. Let me tell you that JUSTIN has completely turned around my perspective on this place! He is such a joy, and has genuine customer interactions that make people want to return. We were first-timers tonight! We headed here after dinner at Dilla Libre and really enjoyed it. I tried their vegan vanilla with their no food dye sprinkles and it was okay. My daughter's chocolate (normal) soft serve was considerably better, but to have a vegan option is pretty cool in soft serve. I think they need to offer a flavor besides vanilla. It's an ice cream counter and there are some tables outside, so it's a fun place to be when the weather is nice and right off the main road so plenty of parking in nearby lots or in spaces in front of the place. Other shakes, sundaes, and ice creams are available, too. We'll be back. I want to try the strawberry soft serve next. read more

It's tiny shop with a walk up menu (I don't think I had the option to sit but wasn't looking for that so I might have missed it.) The guy behind the window was very nice. I got the dairy-free vanilla with marshmallow fluff -- so delicious! Only complaint is the one scoop as kind of too large, I couldn't even finish! They also have other dairy-free topping options. Finally got to try this place and I'm 100% satisfied with this cool and super clean ice cream place. They have soft served ice cream, there were vanilla, strawberry, chocolate flavors when I was there, tried strawberry and chocolate with hot chocolate dip, and it was so so good. Their ice cream flavors are super rich and soft, and the dip was super satisfying. And one thing really impressed about this place is that they kept the place super super clean. Our organic soft serve ice cream is made by us from scratch in small batches using our own exclusive recipes. It's gluten-free, egg-free, soy-free and only made with organic, non-gmo ingredients! Check out our four daily flavors: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and non-dairy/vegan vanilla (made with coconut milk). Served with a smile in cups, cones, as a sundae or with blend-in's. They sell a bunch of house made fresh organic juices as well. Idk how much those were, because they didn't have prices on them. They do have a wide variety of flavors combinations to choose from. They also have Kaleidoscope branded merch for sale. I did like my Avocado Toast but I only ordered 1 slice. It tasted good, but I should have ordered 2 slices (a "full order"). There is an indoor dining area as well as some outdoor tables and chairs if you choose to dine outside. The prices are higher than average but that reflects the quality of their products. They don't use any of if the bad stuff. Parking wasn't a problem when I went. There are multiple spots outside the store along the street on both sides. Stop in if you're craving something healthy and not too sugary. Kaleidoscope has got you covered!

By the time our acai bowls were ready, we'd decided that maybe the vibes weren't as immaculate here like they wanted us to believe and took the bowls to go. After all that time and money, these acai bowls were awfully bland. What's worse is that I was so hungry that I ate about half of it before I finally admitted that I didn't like the thing that my partner paid way too much money for. Well, good thing I said something because he took them both and mercifully tossed 'em. Don't waste your money unless you're only in it for the insta/snap/group chat. And even if you are, then I can promise that there are better choices out there than this to spend your disposable income on.

Since you design it (with the help of the employee of course) it's whatever you make of it, but certainly some good choices to be had in it's creation. Shakes & Cones in Old Town Scottsdale is one of my favorite spots. They always have genuine, great customer service. It's never the same staff when we visit, but they're always super friendly. It definitely wasn't our first time there, and it won't be the last. One of the best things about this place is the seasonal flavors. We ordered three different items this time, and it was fun to try the new additions to the menu. My matcha shake was thick, creamy, and absolutely delicious. After hearing the backstory of the family that started the business, I would definitely put Cimmino alongside some of the gelato that I tried in Italy. Staff was friendly and while the space is unassuming, it was a perfectly fine place to hang out until venturing out into the desert heat. So why four stars instead of five? They don't do shakes and that's always my favorite way to enjoy gelato.
