Charged me $175 for diagnostics and labor prior to the police coming and then changed the receipt to $150 for diagnostics once I called the police. They don't tell you these charges prior to you dropping the car off. They told me my AC compressor was broken and I knew that before I dropped it off. Took them $150 to tell me that. I and C has saved my life twice now, so I figured I owe Ishmail a review! First, I came out on my moving day in May to a flat tire - as in completely flat. Luckily I live close to I and C and was able to slow drive it over. They changed the tire in about 5 hours at a very reasonable price! The second time was Monday, when I came out to my car to learn that the battery was completely dead. My friends with jumper cables weren't around and I had to get to work right away so I left it. When I called around, most places said I needed a jump before they could help me. I and C saved the day - I left my keys with them Monday night, and they did a mobile battery replacement and brought the car back to the shop to check it out. I picked it up the next day and the whole (unfortunate) experience was over. Ishmail didn't upcharge me at all nor did he try to sell me any work my car didn't need. I normally do a lot of my own work to my car and know what I'm doing (for the most part). However, I couldn't find what was causing a weird random noise in my front end and hoped that maybe these guys could. I leave the car a few hours. They find nothing. I'm thinking "ok nbd. It's in my head. I'm good to go on my road trip tmrw". I come in to get the car and Ishmail (sp?) tells me I have a leaking strut and that could be what I felt but likely not however they should be replaced because it's not good for the car. I agree all around. He tells me $150 per side labor and $170 per part for genuine OEM parts. That's a ton of money for struts (found the same oem part online for $72 after the fact) but didn't want to risk my friends and I before a long road trip. He does the work. I pick everyone up and we're an hour or two away and every time we hit a bump I hear a bang under the driver side. I bring it back, he tells me it's the engine cover or a heat shield or this and that ALL LAUGHABLE things to blame the noise on. Basically tells me nothing he can do it's not his fault and to take it somewhere else. I take it somewhere else. He forgot to tighten the top of my strut when he put it on!!! New mechanic charged me $20 and said never go back for my own sake and boy is he right. These guys flat out are pushy, expensive and just plain rude about if they made a mistake. It's a car, stuff happens when you do work on one, but he should have fixed it instead of blaming everything but his work. I'll never go back and I implore you to go anywhere else. read more

I was not very pleased with the treatment at I & C. I took my car there because there was the closest repair ship to my home. I had an issue with my rear suspension. They fixed it, of course, taking them hours and a lot of money. After they repaired the thing, my steering wheel was crooked. I came back to tell them and they were offended that I thought they had something to do with it. I took the car later to Jerry's Auto Repair (5 minutes walk south on Sheffield) to repair the same thing on the other side. Not only he did it in less time, but he explained everything to me, charged me 30% less and fixed the crooked steering wheel for free (turns out, it DID have something to do with the repair they did on I & C). Conclusion: this place works, but is a way way worse option than a lot of places around. Try to avoid them! read more

Went in for an oil change and the mechanic put his hand on my hood and diagnosed a misfire. Me and my brother do all the maintenance besides simple oil changes so i was aware a valve adjustment was necessary. After he went on to say i didn't know what i was talking about i asked from my keys back. I passed emissions a month later confirming i did not have a misfire. He took it back and charged me a little more to do work on the rotors which might have needed to be replaced. Had another issue afterwords with breaks grinding. I took my car here because it wasn't starting and the shop is close to my house. The owner worked on my car for a while and then told me I had a bad battery and needed to get a new one. I was a little skeptical because my current battery was only about 9 months old, but he insisted that whomever I had been to before had sold me a bad battery. I needed a car that would start and didn't know enough about cars to argue with him so I went ahead and got a new battery from him. This past month my car wouldn't start again, but this time I had a friend look at it and when he disconnected the connectors from the battery he found a BENT PENNY between the connector and the battery. It seems that my battery was never the problem but rather my connection (which is only about $5.00 worth of parts to fix). So instead of fixing my connectors the owner sold me a new battery, which I didn't need and put a penny between the battery and connectors to help the shock connect through--not really fixing the problem. I am always cautious to go the car repair shops as a girl but I was completed amazed (and pissed) about how well this guy thought out scamming me! I would NEVER recommend him to anyone. read more

Yesterday took my car to have battery charged to full, per AAA's instructions after they came to jump it. Went to I AND C Auto Repair. I see Ismial said the tow truck driver didn't know what he was talking about. Said I needed to buy a new battery. I said 'hang on, let me call AAA (bought the battery from them still under warranty). AAA driver to I and C. I told Ismial hold off on ordering the new battery, AAA to replace for free. Ismail said I still owed him $35, I chuckled and said I'll give him $10, he insisted on $35, I laughed again, and then said I'd split the difference and pay $27. Nope no way...he wanted all $35. Now mind you his 'labor' consisted of jumping the car in the parking lot next to his shop, to put in the bay, and then to take it back out to the parking lot. I told him he was a thief, and then he wanted to call the police because I was on his property using foul language (referring to calling him a thief). And so I said 'fine call them', he was hesitant, so I offered to call the police. He said no, he'll call. He did not, And again I offered to call CPD, He said he would call after I gave him the $35. I should have read the reviews before sending my girlfriend there for an oil change. She was quoted $35-$40 and mentioned she had a $29.99 oil change coupon found on their website. The young guy at the desk asked to see it and told her that it would be done in 40 min. She forgot to mention that it needed synthetic oil so called but the desk attendant from earlier said it was too late, they had put non synthetic oil in already. My girlfriend told him it was fine and her fault for not mentioning it. When she got there to pick the car up the desk attendant asked her if she got his message and call and she said no. He then let her know that the total was $75 and that the coupon was not valid for that type of oil. She never got a call or message from anyone and to make the situation worse he lied to her over the phone about already adding the non synthetic oil into the car. She asked how they could have added synthetic oil when he had mentioned earlier it was too late when she called. The front desk attendant told her that his mechanic had actually only drained the oil and hadn't filled it yet. He then mentioned that he added fluids and checked the tires, which was not at all what we agreed upon. To make things even sketchier, the cashier then tried saying he had no paper for receipts and wouldn't give one until she demanded a receipt for the service. Long story short: Will absolutely never go there again, and do not recommend anyone to go there if they are looking for an HONEST mechanic. This was only an Oil Change. This place is as legit an auto shop as you'll find. I've only worked with the Owner Ismael and he is very fair and honest. He took time to explain my cars issue to me, answered all my questions patiently. His price to do the work was surprisingly fair. The parts weren't marked up much if at all compared to my internet search pricing. His labor was extremely reasonable. When the work was complete he showed me the old parts and the packaging for the new parts so I knew what was installed, he did this without me asking. On my way out he made sure to tell me that if there was anything wrong or if I had any questions to please contact him. This is always reassuring. The other posts on here that are negative seem to be posted by people who don't understand this is a business that needs to cover their costs. Nothing wrong with charging a diagnostic fee... The diagnostic machines cost thousands of dollars a year just to keep current. Bottom line is give this place a chance, you won't be sorry. read more
