I went to George's, because of the good reviews and it being a local business. I did not have a good experience here. I brought my car to the shop for an air conditioning repair. After 2 attempts to repair it, the problem was not resolved. When I asked Khadir what he recommended, he suggested taking my car to the dealer. So I paid $350 cash to not have my problem fixed, and had to start from square one with the dealer. The dealer found the problem, and fixed it in one day. The problem was not behind the dashboard, as was suggested by Khadir. It was a leak the mechanic at George's should have found when they put the dye through the system to test for the leak. read more

My son took his car here for a catalytic converter repair. Needed to be replaced. After replacement the light engine came back on draining oil into the catalytic converter as per "George' automotive repair" and was told I needed a new new motor. Not comfortable with the assessment, I sought a second opinion but this time from the car manufacturer, to find out that the catalytic converter had NOT installed correctly by "George' automotive repair" and I did not need a new motor, nor was any evidence of oil leak into the motor. The mechanic took advantage of his inexperience on the matter. The secondary repair done costed $2342 on top of what was already paid to replace the catalytic converter plus other part due to the damage done on the first repair. Now asking for refund on first repair as warranty coverage still in action until August 24th, 2022 We came here in good faith to have this resolved and ended up being yelled at by owner/manager. read more

We hadn't driven our car in a while during the Covid quarantine, and while running an errand, my husband decided to choose our lesser used car just to give it some exercise. Our brakes had been getting a little loose on the car but after the long break from driving, they were basically shot. My husband took the car to George's since it was just a few blocks away from the house. He dropped it off with them and walked back while they took a look. We were called later that day after they took a look and told that the brakes needed to be replaced. They were able to get this done for us within 24 hours and my husband was able to pick up the car the next morning. The car runs like a dream now and the brakes are perfect. Everything about the service felt honest and earnest and at no time did George's try to upcharge or upsell us anything. In fact, he even made it a point to fix (instead of replace) the calipers which saved us a good $1000+ and not something that most repair shops would bother to do. Our exhaust pipe/muffler/catalytic converter rusted out and fell, dragging on the ground as we drove. It was REAL bad. We took the car to George's on a Friday morning and Khadir took us in right away. He was so kind and immediately knew what was wrong and what needed done to fix it. He was very sweet and I immediately trusted him! We left our car there and he called us about an hour later with a plan and what it would cost. He had the car done about 2 hours later, good as new. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE I brought my car a few months ago because I was having some electrical issues that were causing my headlights to go on and off randomly and a bunch of dash lights to come on and off. So, I brought it to George because he had done some good, reasonably priced work for me in the past. This time was an absolute nightmare. First, he did $300 of unauthorized work. When I told him he should have gotten my authorization, he said I should have answered my phone (I was at work). He then said "At least it didn't break the bank" as if he knows my financial situation. I brought the car home and all of the problems persisted. So, I brought it back to George. $1000 more work. Khadir got me out of a jam today. Car had been starting slow, feared it was something worse than just a junk battery. It was a junk battery, and when I called about my car not starting Khadir said he was on the road and nearby, happy to either jump it or pull it back to the shop. No towing fee, which was $80 saved right there. Replaced battery, noticed there was a misfire, replaced spark plugs and few other parts I had let go for too long. Everyone knows someone who knows a good mechanic, but if you go to George's and meet Khadir, you can be the person who knows a good mechanic. They are honest, quick and like the Sopranos. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars because that's the treatment I got here at George's. There is a reason this place has been around for 40 years! Khadir is one of the nicest mechanics you'll meet and from the moment you speak with him, you can tell he genuinely loves his business and his customers. I dropped my '07 Civic off a few minutes before they closed along with the diagnosis I received from the Honda dealer. Khadir called me promptly the next morning to go over everything I needed done. He went on to tell me that he just wants to take care of his customers and therefore he does not charge overhead fees like most dealers do. He explained in detail what work was absolutely necessary and what could wait. During our call, I expressed interest in new hub caps and he told me ordering directly from Honda would be costly so he offered to drive out and find me some options. He gave me an estimate over the phone, made sure I was comfortable with it, and told me he would have the car ready the next day (and promised he wouldn't go over the estimate.) Khadir texted me less than an hour later with hubcap options. Around 3pm, he told me my car would be ready that evening! I arrived around 5:45 and had to wait a few minutes because he was getting the inside AND outside of my car cleaned. In that time, Khadir explained everything he did to my car, including showing me all the old/broken parts. His enthusiasm and pride in his work was apparent. As I left, he told me to call him anytime with any issues or concerns. This man and his team are truly great and a blessing to Chicago car owners. I don't know why it took me so long to write this review as George was really GREAT and I'm happy to give him 5 stars!! My Range Rover Evoque took a corner a little too sharp and clipped a Parking Garage Pylon. I had damage on my rear door and fender. To make matters worse I needed to go on a road trip Monday... what body shop get the work done in time with me dropping it off on a Friday?!? ANSWER... GEORGE DID!! It started out with an oil change last summer using groupon, Khadir happily said forget about that Groupon, he gave me the same deal and topped off all my fluids. I had a second oil change, and today I pretty much needed a new front suspension. New front right axyl, front struts, and stabilizer links on both sides, lifetime warranty plus a little oil - all for $1200. It drives like new, and I feel very confident I'll be going back for my rear suspension. Very dependable, and lets you know everything. Quality job. I wonder if Khadir and his team are the last of a dying breed. I feel like it's getting harder to find a local mechanic that you can trust and not overcharge you nowadays. He was friendly, attentive and I felt genuinely committed to customer service since he's the long-time owner of the business. It started off as a request for an oil change before it moved to a discussion to swap out the worn out shocks and struts to some after-market coilovers. Pricing was reasonable. They went ahead and adjusted the height and dampening per my specs and didn't give me a hard time catering to my preferences. His team eventually discovered that my check engine light on was due to some busted cam sensors and I also needed my valve covers replaced (since there was oil all over the engine). Again, pricing was reasonable based on what I could find on Google. Best part of all this was him changing out my old bald tires for brand new tires, which I admit was feeling rougher on the road. He let me choose the ones I found on Tirerack.com that were best suited for my convertible and I compared his install and alignment pricing to another competitor in the city. Again, his pricing is fair and reasonable. Khadir provided me daily updates and texted me pictures of the progress. For transparency, when I would stop by to the shop, he would show me how busted the old parts were and walked me through the changes his team put in. Because it was a small job that evolved to many jobs, it ended up being a big job and he threw in a pretty sweet car wash and interior detailing for free. After calling multiple repair shops in the area who were not able to provide pricing or fair pricing on the services I needed done, I spoke on the phone with Khadir and was able to bring in my car the next day without an appointment. Khadir was so helpful and was able to provide me the best pricing for the services I needed done. While waiting, he had me come in the shop to show me the old versus new parts for my car and did not try to sell me any services I did not need. UPDATE as of 1/2/20: Right before Christmas, I hit a huge roll of tarp that was rolling around on I-90...and my front bender/radiator/bumper was wrecked. As in, pieces hanging off and scraping against the ground. I was in a bind, as I'm reliant on my car (like most). Khadir and his guys let me have the car towed over the holidays, sit in their lot, while we waited for my insurance to set up the claim. I recently bought a used car and took it to George's for an oil change. Khadir (owner) and staff were friendly, knowledgeable and told me what could use repair without trying to "up sell." He even told me that the repair in question isn't a priority, just come back if I ever decide to fix it and he'll order the parts. They even drilled in my front license plate and fixed a rattle with no additional charge. I had been nervous about the rattle on my older car before Khadir gave an explanation and his stamp of approval. My conscience has been eased and I'm so glad I went to George's.
