Tucked in an absolutely charming lake village, I.D. sits in the historic Delafield Hotel. To begin the meal, a charcuterie of two meats and cheeses, names of which I wish I could remember; I was too mesmerized during the quick tour of the board. It was such a playful introduction with diverse flavors: salty, sweet, sour, crisp, buttery, nutty, etc. My mother and I's eating process slowed down, and we savored each combination by piecing intricate ingredients together. Once I licked up every crumb, the entrees were brought in a timely manner. The paella was rich and fresh with scallop, shrimp, octopus, and salmon mixed through tender rice, dotted with saffron aioli and topped with vibrant tomato slices and microgreens. My mother had the shrimp and grits, and she said it was the perfect amount to reach a level of buttery satiety: umami if you may. In addition, Kelly was the ideal server by attending with genuine kindness and warmth. Funfetti cake pops were a nice finish to pair with the check, which you'll have to prepare to be more than most's average outing. This place of farm-to-table cuisine is worth the splurge. read more

Most of my favorite restaurants are usually in downtown Milwaukee or Chicago so when I first tried this spot, I absolutely loved it. It definitely went into my top 5 spots here in Wisconsin. They have really great cocktails that you must try. And of course... their truffle fries! Their truffle fries are absolutely ridiculous.. I've gone with friends two times who has ordered two orders of truffle fries because it's THAT good! The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of recent menu changes. It is changed a little often, and it's not exactly the best changes. I was more of a fan of previous menu items as I am of the new ones. At least you can't go wrong with their cocktails, truffle fries and their pancakes during brunch (seriously ridiculous!). read more

We finally made it to I.D. out in Delafield. I've been following them on Instagram and they frequently post beautiful, well-constructed dishes. I've also heard good things. The restaurant is inviting with a variety of seating options and beautifully lit. It sits on the ground floor of the Delafield Hotel. We started with a couple of their craft cocktails, both of which were amazing. (One was called Meet Me In The Garden). The menu is primarily composed of small plates (and they prove to be pretty small). We started with Whipped Warm Feta & Herbs with Roasted Tomatoes, and Wood Frilled Pita. I'm Greek, so I have eaten feta, the briny, salty cheese of my culture my entire life. This dish was more like feta and hummus had a baby. It was absolutely delicious. I could eat it all day, but it didn't really ring of feta to me. Next up was pork belly, parsnip, quince sweet and sour braised greens, elderberry mostarda. Overall, a nice dish, but for me it's too sweet for a savory dish. I had to hit it with salt. We moved on to Octopus. This dish was good, but could be greatly improved by two things. First, char the octopus - it adds not only a ton of flavor, but a more pleasing texture. Second hit this thing with salt and smoked paprika. The dish has a ton of vinegar, which really tipped the flavor profile and was badly in need of salt. The dish was overall too sweet. Lastly, we had the flatiron steak. I was not asked how I would like it cooked but it came medium rare, which is nice (for me). It was resting atop a small pile of shredded short rib, which I thought was kind of odd. There was a bit of root vegetable. A nice dish, but oddly, again, it needed salt badly. Steak, of all things, needs to be hit hard with salt and pepper. Service was really good, casual and friendly. Overall, this place was very good and I definitely want to go back to try more dishes. It gets pricey fast - most small plates (and they are really small tapas-size) run around $15. Specialty drinks, although great, are also around $15. It's also nice to have a choice like this in an area that has very few good dining options. I personally do not like savory dishes that tip sweet, and I wound up several here. Don't be afraid of salt - despite what one of the reviews says here. Savory is savory - it NEEDS salt. 3.5 would be more accurate here. I'll give it another try, though. read more

If you are looking for a relaxing Sunday brunch with delicious, reasonable food and great atmosphere.. this is a prime choice!! They have a gorgeous view on their patio with screens, sparkling lights and heaters. The goat cheese kale and tomato omelet I had today was cooked to perfection , not dry and brown like so many places serve . My hubby has the salmon hash and really enjoyed his Entree tooooo. The staff and manager, Bailey make you always feel Welcome and appreciated!!! They serve their coffee in a press and have creative craft cocktails like the Aperol & Prosecco Spritz I enjoyed today. We've been here for small plates for dinner and the food is always good and changes often enough to keep me coming back to see what else they come up with. Good wines to choose from as well! As an amateur chef and licensed bartender/trained mixologist, we hate eating out. Loud is my only concern (Saturday with a live band, a very good live band which we loved) But you can sit outside under cover and avoid the loud if you prefer. Really fantastic. Recommend the squash blossoms. And any cocktail. We were also served by the General Manager, Richard... who is downright awesome. Overrated. Overpriced. OverSALTED! The Good: Server was pleasant and fun. She smartly recommended 2-3 plates per person since these are small plates. There were 4 of us so we went 10 total - was just right portion. Most food was cooked well. Ambiance in the place is a cozy modern feel. The Bad & Ugly: Each plate kept poring out of the kitchen way too fast... we literally had no table room when the next one came out... leaving food to get cold and little time to simply relax and eat! Flavorwise, most plates were just ok, with some being downright disappointing such as the brussel sprouts attached to a salt lick...blech! Froi gras was not good either... very poorly executed... it had that customary fatty flavor... but not sure if this was a bad cut or what, but that was all flavor we got..wasn't buttery, rich nor delicate! Scallops were ok...but only got 2 medium sized scallops for $18! No proper seared top on them either... For $25-$30 you can typically get 6 Jumbo mouthwatering scallops elsewhere. Pork belly had no real crisp neither...it was a cross more between a pork chop and unseasoned pulled pork! We were hoping for tasty small plates, but ended up regretting our meal entirely. This is my second review for I.d., this time for dinner on 7/22/17. I made reservations for myself and a friend for 6pm. The place was already packed because of a wedding or something, but luckily we were seated right away. The bar was full and almost every table was already taken, as well as the tables on the patio. The noise level was pretty high because of the amount of people that night but it didn't necessarily bother us. Our server Richard was nice I guess, but seemed to lack genuineness. Admittedly he may have been annoyed by us because we were very giggly and laughing a lot thanks to some pre-dinner drinks. I will say he was well informed about the food and also very patient with my friend who was not familiar with the tapas scene that I've gotten accustomed to experiencing over the years. Richard took a lot of time explaining the menu in great detail, even kneeling to our level to get real palsy-walsy with us. That's because my friend asked literally every question imaginable. "What's jicama?" "What's quinoa?" "And what the heck is socca?" Yup, my friend pronounced everything wrong, but that's what I get for taking a non-foodie to such a place. And maybe it was an eye opener for me to see how uppity and pretentious this place is. Richard even unapolegetically acknowledged this fact from the get-go. When Richard left our table we looked around the restaurant and did some good old fashioned people watching and I realized that yes, this place is perfect for the Northshore Nancy types and the fancy pants Lake Country residents. And after exploring Delafield for the first time that night, it makes sense because it looks like a city straight from a Disney movie set: fake. But I'm getting off topic. Let's talk about the food and drink now. Craft cocktails are expensive but super good. I had the Pico de Vodka and I can safely say it's on my list of top 3 favorite cocktails EVER. My friend ordered Sunset in Cuba and it was also very good, if you like rum. Truffle fries---All I can say is these were addicting and neither of us lacked the willpower to stop gorging our mouth holes until the cone shaped holder was completely empty. Wilted spinach & wild rice salad---I was not a big fan of this salad. The taste didn't blow me away, and between the mushrooms and rice the texture was too chewy. Plus there was an overabundance of grapes. Pig head---This was flavorful, but I decided I disliked the hominy in this dish. The crispy ears were too "weird" for my friend so I gladly took them. Halibut---Was a great piece of fish, but not mind-blowing. Lemongrass panna cotta---Really fresh and made me feel like I was on a tropical island. The flowers on top for garnish were confusing for my friend. "Are these edible flowers? Am I supposed to eat this sh*t?" Butterscotch pot---It was a stark difference in flavor and texture from the panna cotta. A good dessert, but like the fish, not the best I've ever had. The finale was a scoop of bourbon ice cream---I really wanted to try this, and was happy about my gluttonous decision. Very tasty ice creams up in this joint. If you like trendy, atypical food, this is your place. In my opinion, the food would taste better if the chefs toned down trying to be so avant-garde. Delicious food doesn't have to be way over the top in terms of uniqueness and creativity. Sometimes simplicity tastes better. I was super excited to go here for my birthday! Everything looked good and it was hard to decide on what to order. We end up getting the burger, scallops and short ribs, squash salad, and truffle fries along with a couple glasses of wine and a beer. The burger and scallops with short ribs were very good! The scallops were pretty small though and a little more cooked than I would prefer. I think we got all the ends of the truffle fries because they were tiny little burnt pieces, and the table next to us looked like long full fries. I would've liked more truffle flavor to them as well. The salad was basically four bites and it was gone. There was hardly anything to it and extremely overpriced. I definitely would never bother with a salad there again. Overall the food was all overpriced in my opinion. For small plates, I would rather do La Merenda. Our server was fantastic, though the service was a little slow. Not sure I would go back. read more

I.D. is LEGIT! The food, the ambiance, the service, the drinks, all of it was top notch. We went there tonight with both sets of parents (includes a couple of picky eaters) and everyone was very impressed. We did the meat and cheese board, good options - some tasty meats and some fun cheeses. We did two orders of the brussel sprouts because they were so damn good. I'm not sure what all goes into that dish but it's special. I've noticed a trend that everyone is kind of turning up brussel sprouts to 100, so I was ready for something good but this was like next level good, you just kept going in for another scoop. We did bang bang shrimp (another one we all wanted more of), lamb ribs (tender as hell, good), bolognes (I'm normally not a big pasta guy but this had a lot of love in it, very good), thai chicken flatbread (great), and the kimchi & sweet potato cakes (yo, this was my highlight. the waiter recommended this a couple times so we had to get it, incredible, very unique flavors and beautifully crafted). Cocktail-wise, some had beers, some had wines, I tried the manhattan (very good) and my perfect woman had the pico de vodka (perfect amount of heat - very good). To top it off they dropped off some chocolate chip cookie shortbreads. What a night, all the food was great, the pacing was great, the waiter was charming, everything just made it a perfect night. I have given this place a few tries and to be honest it really does not impress me. The ambiance is nice and service is acceptable and food is just there. Nothing spectacular about the food really. The prices where high for what it is perhaps rent is high. If you really want to try some really great food go to Odd Duck and any of the Bartolottas restaurants. This was our 3rd time dining here, but 1st time with the new chef. As an aside, we thought the place with great with the original chef before she left. This time when we went back, we all agreed, it was even better! Our only complaint was that once the live music started you couldn't hear anything and it was waayyy too loud (even with their new curtains to try and help). I can appreciate some good music and attend concerts regularly, but this was a bit much for 7-8:00 on a Saturday at a restaurant/bar. Their wine and cocktail prices are outrageous (more than 100% upcharge). They do have a great variety of single malt scotch and wine by the bottles and glass, but some were 2x what I pay at similar restaurants downtown Milwaukee. We shared the truffle fries (some of the best I have ever had), brussel sprouts, scallop dish, porcini risotto, shrimp dish, lamb ribs and short ribs. all were outstanding. I thought this place was solid. The pros: The service was very informative about the food. The food was good. The drinks were good. The cons: The service was rather haphazard and we must of had a few newbies serving us dinner because they didn't seem to know what to do half of the time. The food portions were really small, which made it really hard to split among five people, so we ended up getting more food. Additionally, the price was rather high for tapas small plates style. Finally, the vibe was so weird. Is this place a young hip wood covered restaurant? Or is it a classy restaurant? But if so, why does it have a DJ spinning hits or a TV playing football? Since I.d. opened I've eaten dinner there probably ten times and brunch once, and I am OBSESSED. I've lived in the lake country area for a long time, and until I.d. opened I knew that I would have to make the long drive to Milwaukee to get outstanding food. Now my go-to spot is a short trip in the opposite direction. Listen, if this place was in Milwaukee, you would have to book a reservation weeks in advance. The bar would be wall to wall people every night. Let me tell you why. 1. Most important detail right here: the staff is friendly, fun, and outgoing. They remember who you are. They make great menu recommendations. There is little turnover which leads me to believe it's a fun place to work. People here smile a lot. 2. Food so delicious you will have an existential crisis at your table. No lie. 3. My favorite cocktail EVER. It's called Pico De Vodka and it's what I want in my coffee mug in the morning and in my bottle at the gym and in the water cooler at work. I also want a Pico De Vodka bubbler installed at my house. 4. Let's talk food again: the butterscotch pot. It sounds rich and heavy when you read the description, but it's not. It is the most perfect balance of flavor, texture and temperature ... I almost booked a room at the Delafield Hotel for myself and this dessert so we could be alone together. 5. The space. This restaurant is put together brilliantly. My favorite spot is right at the kitchen bar where I get to watch the efficient cooking machine that is the restaurant staff grill, bake, toast, sous vide, chop, mix, and plate these morsels in an immaculately clean workspace. I could watch them all night. 6. The kitchen!! Dude. They have a legit wood grill AND wood oven in the kitchen, which makes anything grilled on the menu taste mind-alteringly delicious. I would also like to point out that the chef has conspicuously avoided some of the major food trends, and I applaud her trailblazing tenacity. You won't find burrata anywhere on the dinner menu and you won't get your fix of eggs Benedict for brunch. Sorry not sorry. Kudos, chef. I could go on. Overall great atmosphere. Service was lacking. Food was average to above average. Drinks were average to above average. We ate at the bar which we wanted. Really enjoyed the layout and vibe. Bartenders were attentive to our drink needs. Placed a food order of small plates and received one item. Waited 10-15 min. Got another item. Waited again. Third item which was not what we ordered. Order went in to correct the mistake and it took another 15 - 20 minutes. By this time I was past wanting the dish. They boxed it and charged us. Small plates should come in pairs at the least for sharing purposes so that was a miss. Saw empty tables so I'd give them the excuses of being overly busy but that wasn't the case. Might pop in for a drink as we like to hike in the area but will look to dine elsewhere moving forward. read more

My husband and I have been there several times since it opened, and with the exception of one lackluster experience with a server, literally every detail has always been on point. Their food is amazing, the drinks are excellent, and if you can, I recommend you try to get seated with a view of the kitchen - it is a joy to watch the kitchen staff work like poetry! When we last visited, I had just learned of some food allergies that make dining out quite challenging. The chef personally came to our table to better understand the allergy, and then custom made an entire dish from scratch for me, while we sat on and watched. I was so amazed! Went on a Wednesday night in July, busy enough but still 6 open tables inside as well as community table and kitchen bar with stools, and a couple tables on the patio. We arrived at 7 and the host told us he'd have no open tables until at least 7:45 because he had a "bunch" of reservations coming in , hmmm that sounds fishy. we could wait at bar or sit at communal table or kitchen bar. We opted for kitchen bar which was not comfortable and you see everything going on in kitchen that I don't want to see, people touching their face and then the food, guys full out sneezing, the waitress being snarky to dessert girl. But the kicker was the tables in the dining room remained open the ENTIRE time we were there. Why lie to us? The food was ok not great and pricey. I'm so over tapas, they're so 10 years ago and always make you feel like you got ripped off. They remodeled the restaurant and it looks great but not loving the food at all or the host that lies or having to watch the kitchen. It's a bummer because this area is in such desperate need of good dining options. Seems like you should bank on the customers right in front of you rather than hope some will show up, pretty sure there wasn't a rash of cancellations after we walked in. We won't be back. read more

First timer for dinner. Ambiance: The restaurant has a really cool vibe and reminded me of something you would see in Downtown Milwaukee or Third Ward. It wasn't terribly busy last night so the restaurant seems really big and open. The patio looked really nice, but since it was so warm out we opted to stay inside. Service: Great, friendly staff. They were fairly attentive and willing to give suggestions on favorite dishes etc. Food: Tapas place that recommends 3-4 plates for 2 people. WE HAD: Shaved Brussel sprouts: Very good! Whipped Feta & Herb Cheese with Pita Bread: AWESOME Tuna: Delicious and would definitely order again! Pig's Head: Pretty Good, but it was the last dish to come out so by then I was pretty full! My Fiancé said it was his favorite out of all of the dishes - it might have been mine as well had I not been so full on the other items! Lastly, I'll comment on the drinks as I've read the other Yelp reviews on this topic and will have to agree. The drinks (Wine/Cocktails) were a bit on the pricey side. I don't think there was one glass of wine under $11 and I believe cocktails were the same - might have even been closer to $12 starting point. Our bill would have been $24 lighter had I not ordered any wine to drink, but let's be realistic here, we're out to dinner - I'd like to enjoy a glass or two. When my wife and I walked into the restaurant, we were instantly impressed by the beautiful lighting and décor. We were early for our reservation, so we had a drink at the bar. The craft beer selection on tap was great, and the cocktails were unique. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable about the drink menu. She offered samples of whatever beers we wanted to try. When we got to our table we noticed how attentive and knowledgeable the waitstaff was. The staff consistently checked in on us and asked if we had any questions about the menu. The food was extremely flavorful and presented so nicely. I highly suggest the kale/goat cheese brioche, the wood grilled octopus, and the wood grilled carrots. When we got our bill, we noticed that our drinks were not added, and the server told us that they were taken off because we were seated 15 minutes later than our reservation. We really appreciated this, and it was noted how great the staff was. We plan on coming back again to I.d. read more

This place is an interesting paradox. The food was magnificent, the waitstaff was nice and inexperienced, and bad DJs spun hip hop tunes above the bar on a recent Friday night (a weekly feature we're told). All this inside a beautiful brick building with stupendous decor. The elements are there to make I.D. a top ten destination in the state. So what the heck are they doing? They are creating some outstanding cuisine. Check out the crunchy, savory Moroccan kale and cauliflower salad (my favorite) and the andouille sausage and goat cheese bread pudding, which combines three of Wisconsin's favorite ingredients with a spicy kick. The steelhead trout was the best I have ever had and the butterscotch pot for dessert was rich, decadent perfection. I could have had another! The service was below average. The appetizer should not come before the cocktail unless it is requested. It wasn't. Overall, the people we're welcoming and helpful. My wife and I loved the food but wondered why the DJs on a Friday night. They just don't seem to fit. We'll have to return on a different night of the week. read more

First off, people that I trust, really liked this place, and had an enjoyable experience. So it is with a heavy food heart that I write this: Three words. Salty. Average. Expensive. This is a family style, small plates kind of place. The kind where you get some friends together and everyone gets a bunch of plates to share. Fun. Right? Not so much. Mind you it wasn't a downright disaster, but not great either. First, there were a couple dishes that were just too salty. Everyone in the group agreed...sometimes these things can be a bit subjective, not this case. Next, the non-salty food was ok. Just ok. And apparently timing is not important as multiple plates came out at once, leaving some food luke warm before we could get to it. I felt like I was at a hot dog eating contest, shoveling food in my mouth before the next round of plates arrived. That's all I have to say about that. Third, it was expensive for the product received. If this was a super tasty experience, then no, worth the money. It wasn't all doom and salt.
