a dining area with tables and chairs
    Patrick T.

Nice cozy little pizza joint. I live right down the road. I give 5 stars to bring balance to the force. Small businesses live or die by over-polarized fallacious exaggerated reviews. And I like to show grace and re-polarize back in the other direction. It's a nice location in the Birmingham unincorporated community. The decor and atmosphere is that of a slightly modernized 50's diner. Tables were clean and well organized. Menu was of course NY Italian pizza diner style to include large thin slice pizza, cold/hot subs, calzones, Stromboli, etc. Food was reasonably priced to match serving proportions. Staff was kind, engaging, attentive, respectful, and prompt in taking order despite many incoming call-in orders. I ordered the pre-cooked ready to order pizza slice, and it was promptly reheated in the oven and delivered to my table. I have read the negative reviews for this place and whilst small businesses may make small inadvertent mistakes, that is not indicative of their over-all value or reputation, as is the case with this location. I believe they deserve the 5 stars I'm giving them, and I happily would refer and recommend them to you.

    Stromboli! OMG so great!!

Solid thin, New York slices! The Italian Sausage Stromboli was the best I have ever had! Very fresh dough. Plenty of toppings. Discard the negative comments on other reviews-they don't know New York pizza!

a slice of pizza in a styrofoam container

This is what a $13 sausage and pepper parm hero looks like. 4 small slices of sausage, soggy bread and cheap mozzarella. I have never written a review on Yelp but this sausage parm was so horrible I felt the need to write a review. If I could give negative stars I would.

Pizza is absolute garbage. If you order a pizza to go a bit better but not much. Dude making pizza won't speak or acknowledge you at all. Had a steak sub so salty I thought I was being preserved. Unfortunately not much to pick from this end of town

    Find the cheese!

This place was like the name when it opened. Great pizzas. Today we revisited this place and I wish i could give a zero, as I ordered two margherita pizzas for my youngest son and myself. Dough ok, but not fresh. Tomato paste w canned tomatoes and a select few pieces of thin mozzarella. $28.00! Kindly called to check what the could do and they went silent. Nothing, sir. Amen to this rip off on a prime location, sad.

    Nice thin slice

Ordered the Amore Mio which was what was recommended and although the menu items are not cheap, it was absolutely delicious!!! The panini is so big, we ended up splitting it. We opted for the garlic olio since my bf doesn't care for tortufolio and sun dried tomatoes as opposed to regular tomatoes. Pesto, burrata, all the meats, oh my yum!! The flavors are amazing. The only complaint from my bfs side was the prosciutto was stringier than he'd want, but he didn't spare a single bite so that says it all to me. I do like that the paninis are served with chips instead of fries or anything. Don't get me wrong, I love fries, but definitely prefer chips with a panini. Salivating just thinking about going back to try more of the menu!

But this experience was genuinely special. From the service to the food to the atmosphere, everything exceeded expectations. Despite a packed dining room, the staff delivered a level of attentiveness that felt effortless. Our server had an incredible command of the menu, rattling off a lengthy list of specials from memory with impressive detail. The entire team worked in sync--bringing bread, refilling drinks, offering fresh grated cheese, clearing plates without rushing us, and striking just the right balance of friendliness and professionalism. What really set the evening apart were the personal touches. The matriarch of the restaurant (or at least who I assume was the matriarch) circulated through the dining room making sure guests were enjoying themselves. At one point she proudly announced that the osso buco was ready--a charming moment that felt less like a sales pitch and more like someone sharing something they genuinely loved. Before we left, she gave my wife and daughter sunflowers from her garden, carefully prepared with the leaves removed and stems wrapped in foil. Then she sent us home with fresh zucchini. Along with everything else, these folks have figured out how to make dining personal. It felt less like eating in a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone's lovely home--where there is genuine pride and gratitude that you've joined them for dinner. That's a rare feeling today, and Casa Nuova delivers it naturally. And then there's the food. The Oysters Rockefeller were outstanding. The fried mozzarella was exceptional. The Pesce Fra Diavola--with clams, mussels, calamari, and scallops--was perfectly prepared and served in a sauce that complemented rather than overwhelmed the seafood. The veal scallopini was tender, beautifully seasoned, and expertly sauced. Even our daughter's simple pasta dish was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Honestly, I'm almost afraid to go back because I don't know how they could possibly do better. Casa Nuova delivered one of the most memorable restaurant experiences I've had in a very long time. My sincere thanks to everyone at Casa Nuova for such a lovely evening. You made my wife, daughter, and me feel genuinely welcome, and we left with full stomachs, smiles on our faces, and an experience we'll remember for a long time.

Was told it would be a 20 minute wait (we were there around 6:30pm) which was fine given that if we left and tried to go anywhere else, it would have taken that much time anyway. Several others came in after us and were told similar or longer times. Hostess mentioned to us that it was crowded inside because it was so hot on the patio. After all the others kept arriving, I happened to ask if the patio was closed and she said no, to which I said we were actually fine sitting out there. Then, all the other parties waiting said the same thing, so we all got seated immediately. Hubby had the special which was meatloaf. I had the burrata salad with added grilled chicken. Mine was the perfect size for a light but filling dinner. My husband said his was good too and even recommended it to a lady who asked about it from a nearby table. He even got a free cupcake for his birthday. Service has always been very friendly. Ambiance inside can get rather noisy, but the patio was better even with cars and a plethora of Amazon trucks going through the roundabout. Temp actually wasn't too bad. Fans, shade, and a little breeze helped. Glad I asked about patio!

Big Easy BBQ - Do Not Waste Your Money or Time Eating Here A…read morefew days ago, I watched a well-known BBQ show that offered a simple rule: if there's no smoke coming from a BBQ restaurant, keep driving. Today, I ignored that advice and regretted it. A friend and I decided to try Big Easy BBQ for lunch instead of visiting one of our usual favorites. After reading positive reviews, we drove more than 30 minutes to see what the hype was about. The first warning sign was the nearly empty dining room at lunchtime. The second was the complete lack of that unmistakable BBQ aroma. Despite both red flags, we stayed. My friend ordered the St. Louis ribs with sides, and I ordered the half chicken with two sides. When I noticed he had barely touched his ribs, he handed me a piece to try. The meat was tough, dry, and tasted as though it had been cooked well in advance and reheated. Unfortunately, my chicken was no better. It also seemed old and reheated rather than freshly prepared. For sides, I chose dirty rice and Cajun BBQ beans. Neither tasted particularly fresh. The dirty rice was acceptable at first but quickly lost its appeal, while the beans were merely average. Having lived in New Orleans for five years, I know what good Cajun and BBQ-inspired food should taste like. This wasn't it. The highlights of the meal were my iced tea and my friend's French fries. Service was equally disappointing. The server checked on us only in passing and showed little interest in our experience. When we requested takeout boxes for the food we barely ate, there was no inquiry about why our meals were largely untouched. We both took our leftovers home, though neither of us was enthusiastic about them. The lesson here is simple: online reviews should never outweigh what your eyes, nose, and instincts are telling you. A busy dining room, the smell of smoke, and trusted recommendations are often better indicators than a collection of glowing ratings. As a final note, my friend and I normally pay separately, but I felt responsible for suggesting this restaurant and paid for both meals. If paying for two disappointing lunches taught me anything, it's this: save your time and money, and eat somewhere else.
