I've been going to I-OM for over a year and want to express my gratitude for all they've done. It's hard to summarize, but I had two main experiences here: 1) Ongoing physical therapy to recover from dance-related injuries to my wrists and ankles, as well as lower-back concerns from just too much sitting in an office. I worked with Foram, and the results were just fantastic. Each time I came in with a new injury, they would use a combination of body work, e-stim, heat pads, exercises, and ultrasound in order to promote healing while also quickly allowing me to continue dancing while in recovery. Foram is so personable, always has a big smile, positive energy, and is willing to talk to you for as long as you'd like, whether about her methods, injury prevention, or just life, travel, and dance. Typically within 2-3 sessions, the pain of the most recent injury would have subsided, and within a few weeks would stop flaring up altogether. 2) In addition to dance-related issues, I was suddenly stricken with Bilateral Vestibular Hypofunction, a disorder of unknown origin that affects the inner ear system. It's rare, and the most recent peer-reviewed journals suggested that a recovery may not be expected, and any recovery often takes years of therapy. Now, I'm a pragmatic person who believes strongly in evidence-based policy and currently an empirical economist. However, Foram suggested that I speak with IOM's owner, Mary Elaine, about her healing work. I had had one experience with Mary before that multiple previous therapists had misdiagnosed an injury around my thumb (causing "shocks" up to my elbow) that Mary literally diagnosed (accurately) within about 10 seconds. So, I was willing to listen. Mary does energy healing, and also recommended me to an acupuncturist in Chinatown. Given Western Medicine's poor predictions for recovery, I was willing to try anything. For about 6 weeks, I couldn't walk in a straight line (gait imbalance) and my vision would bounce up and down when I walk (oscillopsia) causing the simple act of walking outside to be nauseating. Over those six weeks, I had almost no progress. I began the first of what would be 10 acupuncture treatments. On the day of my 4th treatment, I had a session with Mary in the morning and acupuncture in the late afternoon. When I finished both, my body was utterly exhausted, and I went home to crash. The next morning, I woke up and the oscillopsia was reduced by at least 30-40%. The day before, I would have to literally stop walking in order to read street signs, but now I could suddenly read signs by just slowing down a bit and not having to stop fully. Over the next 4 weeks, I recovered almost entirely -- but the first sign of any recovery was stimulated by this dual appointment. During Mary's energy healing, I was not primed with any expectations, and so there was no potential for placebo effects. I'm not going to offer any expectations here in order to do the same for others. I will say that I had real physical sensations during the process, and the timing of my recovery is too tight to be coincidental. In the words of statistics, if you were to run an interrupted time series model, there'd be a strongly significant positive coefficient on Mary's work. In sum, for both regular injuries occurred during the course of life, and for disorders where Western Medicine may offer less-than-stellar options, I highly recommend giving I-OM a try. read more

HIDDEN GEM:: Second time around (due to a tendon repair surgery) and it's still my home away from home! After two years of being away, the staff and therapists are still welcoming and friendly. Gladys is thee best hands down, I learn new things about my foot each visit. I'm already seeing results in terms of strength for my toe. Definitely appreciate this physical therapy establishment. From the assistants to the therapists, everyone has a great fun personality and is competent, caring, patient, and helpful. I've been going to I-OM for almost a month as a pro-active measure to ensure I won't sideline myself as I continue to ramp up mileage in my running and am incredibly grateful for the referral that led me here. Elaine and Keren are both fantastic physical therapists and extremely knowledgeable about the body, what causes injuries and most importantly how to help the body recover from injuries. My visits are always pleasant, but challenging and I always feel better at the end of a session. My visits at I-OM have gotten me back on track with essential stretching and foam rolling on a daily basis. The exercises to do at home that they give me have also already made a difference in how I feel. Now, I'm not going to lie to you--while at the end of many visits I am rewarded with a soothing heat treatment on my legs that is so relaxing I've fallen asleep on the table, I must also tell you that if I visit with tight IT bands, they might start my visit by loosening them up with elbows, forearms and body weight. Loosening my IT bands this way is a guaranteed way to make me squirm in discomfort, but I also always feel a hundred times better after it's done. Annie who works the front desk and will assist with treatment is also fantastic. She is super friendly and accommodating. She also has proven herself to be knowledgeable and helpful when she assists with treatment. Last, the office is always meticulous and well organized. I needed to go to PT for a shoulder injury in early 2015 and a coworker recommended this place. Super convenient since it's in the same building I work in. Had a great experience here, with both Keran and Elaine. What I appreciated most about I-OM PT is that they work with you to make sessions affordable (I never paid more than $40/session) and give you a lot of individual attention. Other times I've been in PT, the physical therapist spends about 10 minutes with you before passing you off to an assistant to run you through your exercises or telling you to do them yourself. Not here! Keran and Elaine spend a lot of time with you (Especially if you're able to come at off-peak hours, like I did) and they really care. So refreshing! Also, I really appreciated that they were willing to consider how other ailments were affecting my injury (my hip being out of place affecting my alignment, which affected my shoulder). For the last ten 10 years, I have been plagued with neck and back pain. I've seen countless doctors and physical therapists. I've tried to address these issues in the gym. I've tried acupuncture and massage treatments... I thought I had tried it all and I had very little success. Pain was something I thought woukd be a part of my life... I came upon I-OM here on Yelp because they were near my office and they had excellent reviews and ratings. On that day I was in a significant amount of pain. Much more than usual. I set up an appointment and went in the very next day. Within the first visit I realized why other patients have left such glowing feedback. My therapist, Mary Elaine, spent an Incredible amount of time working with me, using a variety of techniques to diagnose my issues (there were many) and began to help the healing process right away. This is NOT any line of BS when I tell you that I walked out feeling better after only ONE session. In all my years I have never met someone who spent so much time working on their individual patients. It was so obvious that she does this work because she truly cares about the well being of the people she sees. This practice is not about volume, it is about helping people heal. Mary Elaine (and the whole staff) approach each patient with their own unique treatments, tailor-made to suit the needs of the individual. They all care and they clearly love what they do. Every single time I go, they spend the entire time working with me. I have never found that anywhere else. I look forward to my session every week because I know that each time I go, I will feel better. I simply cannot give a higher recommendation. Came to iOM on the recommendation of a colleague and boy am I glad I listened. It's like a family here. I've seen Keran and Elaine and both are very caring and knowledgeable and really work with you on your level. I injured myself training for the Brooklyn Half when I came to them in mid-March and guess who ran the half strong and steady yesterday? It's a smaller shop, which may put some people off. But that translates to attentiveness and a level of comfort at a PT office that's truly unique. I've learned so much about the human body and how it works; now that I'm done with the half, will be working on rebalancing muscles and strengthening with Elaine. If it's not obvious, definitely recommend. And I'd be remiss not to mention the support staff, Annie and Kay, who are so sweet and helpful and a pleasure to talk to. Something is wrong with this business. They insisted I give them my credit card information and authorization on paper for them to keep which is the least secure way to share credit card information. When I said I wasn't comfortable with it, their office manager Ray called under the pretense of checking up on me and then started harassing me into giving him my credit card information. I again said I wasn't comfortable to have all their employees accessing my credit card details. At that point he suggested I find another Physical Therapy provider. Very unprofessional. read more

Due to a childhood injury, which progressed into my adult hood, I developed severe foot and toe pain. As my obsession for shoes developed, so did my typical hammertoe, callous/corn, and soon to be bunion's. My surgery consisted of 8 toes being done in total. This included 6 bones being removed, a tendon and bunion's being shaved down on both feet. :0 Yes, you're reading correctly! In my eyes this was the "mother" of all surgery's. My doctor's exact words were, "I'm sending you to a PT who is tough, but the BEST". And, the best Elaine is! (that's my PT :)) The first day I limped to I-Om , my body was filled with complete anxiety and fear. As soon as you walk into the office, you feel a sense of peace and traquility. Not something anyone would anticipate. The staff member's are filled with smiles, and offer you encouragement through out your times of frustration. Note: Dedication and patience is required on your end. :) It's been 3 months since my surgery, and I'm ready to put on a wedge, and dance the night away. I had a great experience at I-OM. They helped me with Achilles tendonitis and also some knee problems. The staff is extremely nice and the front desk staff always welcoming. Annie was especially helpful and kind. My therapist Jose was terrific. It's a small place, but if you are serious about recovery, these people can help. Jose was very attentive, even watching me stretch and do all the exercise to ensure I was doing them correctly. I feel much better after approximately 12 visits. I-OM Physical Therapy is truly a very special place of deep healing and recovery. I went to I-OM for PT over the course of a year for a serious and very painful knee injury. When I arrived there I was in crisis and could hardly walk. I-OM's Physical Therapist Foram Patel immeditaly went about lessening my pain so that we could begin the work towards my recovery. Foram Patel gave her all to every aspect of my physical therapy and she also addressed the mental anxiety and strain from dealing with pain and limitations. i was able to learn a whole new way of moving my knees and keeping them safe from further injury. I've had a few rounds of PT at other PT centers, with all kinds of wonderful PTs, but I've never experienced the detailed care and personal attention that Foram and I-OM offer to their patients. For 2.5 years, I suffered constant pain in both hands and feet like RA (pain level 9 of 10) but no all my diagnostics were normal! As expected, the Western approach had me taking 4 types of meds at daily megadoses and still the pain did not abate. I also had acupuncture and acupressure treatments, which helped somewhat. I finally decided to try Elaine's treatment in March 2013 and after only 3 sessions, my pain level went to 3-4 of 10!!
