Opened in 2008 by Rita Sodi who grew up north of Florence. Her team also runs nearby spots like Via Carota, Buvette, Bar Pisellino and The Commerce Inn. The restaurant has a real quiet and traditional, rustic vibe. Dinner reservations are nearly impossible to grab, so we walked in around 1pm on a Sunday and they sat us at the bar immediately. This is probably my number two Italian restaurant right behind Torrisi. Everything is made with love and authenticity. The lasagna is a must. I can't wait to bring my parents here. Negroni menu was super good and in particular the low abv one was yummy. The lemon pasta was my favorite. It was very flavorful and the pasta was cooked perfectly. After wanting to come for years, I finally snagged a reservation. They open 2 weeks in advance at 10am. Scored a Friday night at 5:30pm, latest they had when it went live. I was a little worried after reading reviews about bad service, but Shannon couldn't have been more friendly or attentive (she even told us the specials twice). We started with the insalata di asparagi which was so great. Shaved asparagus, fennel, goat cheese, and pine nuts; perfect combination of flavors. Burrata e pomodorini was good as well and tasted so fresh. For entrees we shared two. The famous lasagna is as delicious as people say with all the yummy layers. We were blown away by how good the pappardelle al limone was. The pasta noodles were long, tender and homemade with a delicious lemon sauce. A must! We ended with the flourless chocolate cake and stracciatella gelato. Again so good. We had a few different glasses of wines we enjoyed and Shannon even let us try them before commiting. I sodi is famous for simple, well made, Italian food and that is 100% what it is. It's crazy that it has the wait that it has, but in the West Village in this economy, it certainly will continue to be what it is. If you're looking for flashy italian please go to Torrisi. If you're looking for NJ italian go to Emilio Ballato's, but if you're looking for simple Italian food done well, I Sodi is it. The lasagna is great, but it's not the best thing on the menu. Now you would be remiss not to get it, but don't everyone get the lasagna. The Limone pasta is far better, and i'd challenge you to make it taste that good at home. Of course the lasagna is rich and luscious. Both spectacular dishes that I would get every time I come. The salads are good, again simple and fresh. They rely on ingredients to stand out, not Le Bernadin style intervention. The rabbit was great. Truly one of the better rabbit dishes I've ever had. Wanting to see what all the hype has been about, we got an early weeknight reservation. The interior is minimalist yet comfortable with the back room feeling cozier than the front. We ordered the crostini special which was excellent so we were tantalized for what was to come. We ordered the popular beef lasagna and lemon pasta with anticipation. Both arrived, the lasagna looking amazing and the pasta a little meh. The lasagna was not hot and while rich in flavor, the mushy consistency was a bit off-putting. Honestly, this place is amazing and I crave their lasagna at least once a week. The layers and this lasagna is crazy and every bite you take is full of flavor. Lucked out and got a fairly last minute reservation for 4 right at opening. Though it was a little earlier than most of us would prefer to eat, it was worth it to check this spot out. We ordered family style for our group of 4. We started with a farro salad that was a special for the day and the insalata mista. The farro salad was the crowd favorite, though most everyone still enjoyed the other salad. For pastas we got the Pappardelle al Limone, Lasagna a Sugo, and Lamb and mushroom pasta (a daily special). Then we finished off with the Tagliata con rucola (a grilled ribeye). This was so much food, the richness of the lasaga and steak together with all the pastas was a bit much, but everything was so delicious, you had to fight to stop eating. Since everything was so good, there wasn't a crowd favorite this time. My personal favorite was the special Lamb and mushroom pasta, it was amazing, it should absolutely be a staple on the menu. The cocktail menu was wonderful, they had a whole section of just negronis, and also had some mocktail options. I enjoyed a wonderful Sage martini, then a glass of wine with the pasta and streak. Service was fantastic, it looked like the bar got backed up and our server got back there to make some of the drinks. You can line up before opening to try for a spot at the bar, the line forms pretty early and quick, so worth trying for a reservation if you know you want to come here. read more

Despite the continued hype and pain of getting a reservation here I was pleased to find that I Sodi lives up to most of the hype and that most, if not all, of the dishes were fantastic. Now that the restaurant has a much more expansive dining space (following renovations and expanding the backs) it's slightly easier to get a table and I noticed that a decent amount of spots at the bar, reserved for walk-ins, were open when we arrived promptly for our 5:15PM reservation. The classics, including the fried artichokes, were all great and we ended up sharing 3 appetizers, 3 pastas and a meat entree which left us stuffed with barely enough room for dessert. I found that the lasagna was my favorite - despite being a massive slice was the perfect level of rich, flavorful and meaty. The other pastas were also amazing, include the pappardelle and cacio e Pepe but we found that the cacio e Pepe was the standout. It was the perfect blend of peppery without being overpowering and was the right amount of food. I think ultimately we could have done without the rabbit and side of potatoes (i.e. fries) but it's a solid dish if you want a proper portion of meat as most of the pastas are vegetarian. Finally, the dessert, a unique cookie roll (lovingly called a salami by our waiter) was pretty interesting though a bit thick and rich. I've been wanting to come here for years, but generally defaulted to Rita Sodi's other spot, Via Carota (creature of habit). So when my sister came to visit and a friday lunch spot opened up on Resy, I was there. Came for the first seating at 11:30 AM, def recommend having a reservation as they seemed pretty booked and the space itself is cozy (esp if it's too cold for their back patio seating). Service is something i've seen flagged in other reviews, but honestly from the hostess to our server, everyone was super warm and kind. Since it was "morning", they had some extra breakfast style dishes including an intriguing egg lasgana, but we went classic lunch and split the Steak Tartare, Pappardelle al Limone, Lasagna, and Piselli side which was plenty of food (with leftovers). Standouts are definitely the Pappardelle al Limone which was creamy and bright from the lemon zest, and the texture of the pappardelle was perfect. Their famous lasgana was visually stunning with layers upon layers of thin pasta, but a bit heavy. Also got the homemade bread basket which comes with delish olive oil and olives (but is also an extra charge). Beautiful & intimate Italian place in Greenwich Village. This place came highly recommended by a trusted friend and is usually booked well in advance. Their website said they welcome walk-in so after not finding a table on rest, I decided to take my chances on a Monday evening. We got lucky and got two spots at the bar (note that everyone needs to be present for you to get seated). The service was attentive and friendly. We ordered pasta and I opted for the truffle pasta special which was absolutely delicious. The pasta was beautifully al dented and the sauce perfectly buttery and creamy. The portion size was pretty generous, too which I appreciated at $45. It was definitely some of the best and most expensive pasta I had but well worth it. I met a friend who was in town and that I hadn't seen for a while so we were still chatting and finishing our sparkling waters after paying the bill but were asked to leave so they can turn around our seats pretty promptly. Definitely understand that it's a small place, but we only spent a little over an hour total in the restaurant and hadn't even finished our drinks. That's what I'm deducting a start for. read more

I was blessed by the Resy gods and finally got an early dinner reservation off the waitlist. The inside of the restaurant is very simple and bare bones. The tables are close together, but it was pretty quiet at 5PM. We ordered the potato croquettes, lasagna, and the tortellini in brodo. The croquettes were veryy cheesy. My boyfriend liked it, but I would have preferred it to be heavier on the mashed potato flavor. This was my first time having tortellini in brodo, and it kinda reminded me of wonton soup. The meat filling of the tortellini was very flavorful, and they were floating in a clear and salty broth. I heard mixed reviews of the lasagna, so I didn't have high expectations going in, but I actually liked it! It was very dense and salty with the meat though. I would have preferred some kind of tomato sauce/acidity to cut through the richness. Overall, I liked how simple and rustic the dishes were. Everything was good, but nothing really stood out to me. This place does live up to most of its insane hype. The lasagna can only be described like a giant thick block of meat and cheese - it's almost too decadent to eat. We only made it halfway before taking the rest to go. The limone pasta was also a hit. The weakest for us probably the ravioli, we felt it congealed a bit too fast but maybe that's on us for eating too slow. I am a vegetarian with a dairy allergy. I wasn't necessarily expecting a vegan dish on the menu but was shocked when I asked if I could have this dish or that without the meat or cheese. No, no and no. Finally I asked "you have pasta and you have tomatoes. Can you put some tomatoes on some pasta? Finally the waiter just admitted "no, we don't go off menu." The steak tartare was a huge portion and extremely fresh and delicious and very flavorful but the lemon pappardelle was the star of the show. My friend and I stopped by late afternoon on Saturday around 2pm. Fortunately for us, they allowed us to sit down if we ordered promptly because the store was set to close around 3pm for their break. Luckily, there were tables available, so we got seated right away. My friend and I ordered to share: HOUSE BREAD The bread was a type of wheat bread. It came out warm. There were 4-5 pieces. They provided an oil to dip the bread. It was nice, but I think personally though it's skippable - didn't find myself wanting more than what was provided. CARPACCIO DI ZUCCHINI This was my friend's pick, but I was pleasantly surprised by this dish in a good way. This appetizer is quite light & refreshing. I feel like it's the perfect summer dish. The vegetable were very finely cut & fresh. The mint taste was subtle (which I appreciate - cause I generally do not enjoy mint in my foods). CACIO E PEPE I knew that they were known for this dish. And it did meet my expectations. The black peppers that they used seems like a good quality. The pepper was apparent but not overbearing. The noodles taste great with the combination of the sauce/cheese. This dish was decently filling despite how it may appear. So I was satisfied with my order. Overall, I did enjoy my meal. When the restaurant's Resy page came across my screen with a new crown in the corner (making it easier for me to book a table), I figured I'd finally give this place a shot now that reservations weren't as difficult as rocket surgery. But color me disappointed--and put me down for Team "Not Worth the Hassle". - Pane e olio: I didn't want this, but it was ordered anyway. Their housemade sourdough was...very weird. Super dense, thick and chewy. Maybe I'm too much of a peasant to appreciate this kind of sourdough, but I do bake my own bread and this bread tasted like one of my beginner mistakes. Regardless, I hate that we had to pay $15+ for this gluten nightmare. - Lasagna a sugo: Supposedly their signature dish--but I can't fathom why unless over-salted disappointment is an aspiration in the culinary world. This lasagna tasted like someone spilled an entire can of NaCl in ground meat, then threw in some sheets of pasta to mask the mistake. There was little to no sauce, the cheese was mostly only on the top layer, and no other seasoning could be discerned from all that salt. The entire thing made my kidneys hurt. - Special pappardelle with lamb and porcini: I don't know if this dish had a proper name, but by virtue of not being the aforementioned lasagna, it tasted miles better. There could've been more lamb, and there definitely wasn't enough porcini, but the pappardelle was al dente enough. - Side of roasted carrots: Good, but who doesn't know how to roast carrots? At least they gave a large amount--it helped wash down the horrible lasagna. Service was fine but not particularly friendly, especially as the place filled up after 5:30pm. I had a great meal with my friend here on Friday! This was my first time dining here. It is super cute and small, which makes getting a reservation a little tricky! Luckily, we snagged one! We were seated a little after our reservation time, but the host kept checking in and updating us. I had a dirty martini, which was good but I thought.a bit small for the price. We also shared the bread, that was STEAMING hot and came with olives and olive oil. This was so good! For my meal, I had their special that was a truffle pasta. It was pricey but super delicious and came with tons of fresh shaved truffles. I do wish the sauce itself had a little more flavor, but the truffles were so indulgent and made it very special. Wow just wow. The lasagna absolutely delicious. I came here for a client dinner and was late and totally wish I got there earlier for more. We ordered three lasagnas, a couple pastas, a tomahawk steak, the short ribs, and dessert. Everything was fantastic. Honestly I would come back just for the lasagna. The steak was also cooked to perfection. The place was cute, it had a patio with outdoor seating. I will say this place does got packed. We had to leave at 8:15 cause another table was waiting on us. We got an early dinner reservation - typically fairly difficult but with enough checking reservations are doable and at decent times. They also have a walk in bar that had ample open seating. We were sat in the back dining room that was nicely, intimately lit but pretty quiet - there was no music playing which I realized I rarely encounter dining out so conversations stood out more but it wasn't too loud. The staff were helpful in recommending dishes to share and drink menu had many options. We got the lasagne - so rich and thick with many layers and sauce/meat. It was fine but wouldn't say memorable. I think there was a bit too much pasta for me and it conflicted with the meat and sauce. The papardelle with limone was phenomenal - the lemon flavor cut through so well with a rich sauce and soft pasta. The cacio e Pepe was also delicious with black pepper bringing out the flavors. Ravioli was solid but not memorable. The bread was very good with thick crust and soft interior but with ample dough and great for mopping up sauce. Overall very good Italian meal and would return! We lucked out and got a seat at the bar on a rainy Sunday. The staff was very nice and helpful with our questions. We started with a cappuccino and an americano and both were delicious! The only miss for us was the artichoke salad. It was oil-heavy and a bit bland, tho the artichokes and parm were so fresh. Both the spinach ravioli and carmelzied onion pasta were great. We camped out and got on line at 4 pm on Saturday. We were third in line and had a party of four. The restaurant opened at 4:30 pm. Those with reservations went in first. Afterwards, we were welcomed in very warmly and professionally. We were offered garden seating or a communal table (inside). I happily accepted the communal table since it was freezing that day. They had a number of specials that day. They had a great selection of negroni's, I got a terra negroni, which was recommended. It tasted great and was a safe choice. Easy drinking negroni. Our waiter was lovely and answered our billion questions since we all kept forgetting the specials that he listed. Fried artichokes were crispy and had a satisfying crunch. I didn't think there was much flavor. We got a nice orecchiette that was nice and light. Pasta was sumptuous. We also tried the tagliatelle con cipolla which had a strong caramelized onion flavor. This one was not my favorite, but everyone else in my party really loved it. We also got a pulled pasta special with oxtail and mushrooms, I really enjoyed this one. it was really rich and had great depth of flavor. We ordered the steak special, which included the T-bone. I am not sure what to think of this one. The steak was cooked properly, in the middle. The edges were quite dry. It was $188, so I am not sure if was worth that price. The tiramisu was on point. So was the panna cotta. I personally prefer tiramisu, so I would get that again. I would definitely like to return, but you need to plan ahead if you would like to come here. read more

Managed to walk in on a Sunday around 12:15pm and got lucky to get a spot at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and helpful with the menu. We split the fried artichoke and ravioli with spinach, ricotta, butter, and sage. The ravioli was delicious. The lemon pasta was light and melt in your mouth. The meat lasagna was also a winner as it was so easy to cut into -- truly didn't even need a knife. Def recommend a weekday lunch if you're struggling to get in.
