I've known about this place since their Menlo Park days, having attended one of their cooking classes back then. It's been a pleasure to see them continue their tradition here in Belmont. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy, which makes it perfect for a nice dinner. What impresses me most is the quality of their food--it's consistently excellent, and honestly, every dish I've ordered has been a delight. I'm finally having the time to dedicate to writing a proper review for Iberia. I'll remove any possible suspense by saying we had a great dinner, and I will definitely be back...just wish they were open for lunch during the week! This review is for the dining room. My son was home visiting and one of his food requests was tapas, specifically Iberico ham. I think I had been here long ago when it was still in Menlo Park. Anyway let's get right to the food. My son and I had done a deep dive (not so his dad) and preplanned what we were most interested in. Drinks: El Martini , Old Fashioned, and Side Car, all between $17.25-18.75: 4*- all good, pretty much standard issue, STIFF PAELLA de MARISCOS (we 3 shared the small) $61.90 - saffron rice with prawns, lobster, cuttlefish, bay scallops, squid, baby octopus, sea scallops and clams: 3.5*. We thought it was delcious, especially the tender clams and cuttlefish. It was a little oily, but the disappointing part was almost no socarrat! boo! Txipirones en suTinta - squid stuffed with tomatoes & sausage, braised in wine and its ink. $22.90 - 4.5*: I didn't expect the whole thing to be entirely black. I liked it but a little too soupy. 100% Jamón Iberico de Bellota Black Label - country bread rubbed with tomato, topped with the iconic ham of the black hoofed Iberian pig. $32.80 - 5+*: OMG. every part so tasty, and the ham almost melts in your mouth alcauciles con champiñones - baby artichokes sautéed with chanterelle mushrooms, amontillado sherry and cured ham (opt.) $21.65- 4.5*: This was not at all attractive to look at. I needed some other color on the plate besides light brownish green. The taste was delicious, the best aspects of earthy mushrooms and sweet young artichokes. Pulpo a la Brasa - grilled octopus; bean and piquillo pepper salad with capers, basil and shallots. $29.85 - 5 *: I loved the octopus, although it could have benefitted from a little more char. The beans, however almost upstaged the pulpo. Absolutely wonderful. Vieiras con Espuma de Salmón - griddled Hokaido scallops on smoked salmon mousse toast. $25.70 - 3.5*: The scallops were perfectly cooked, but definitely over salted. The salmon "mousse" wasn't a mousse at all it was about the consistency of a thin sour cream, like crema, and only a small amount. I didn't note any smoked flavor. The service was fast, friendly and knowledgeable, except for the busser, who was pretty much silent and no smiles even when we tried to engage her, but maybe she didn't speak English. The dining room isn't very big and there was a large table of like 12 coworkers, one of whom spoke and laughed incredibly loudly, but that's not the restaurant's fault. Food: 34/40 Service: 17/20 Value: 16/20 Atm/Intangibles: 16/20 Overall: 83/100 As I knew it would be, it was expensive, and like others, I'm not sure I think the 22% compulsory service fee is fair. This place is ridiculous. There is no reason this place should exist. $6 for gambas? 3 prawns, cooked and deliciously served for SIX dollars?1? Croquettes for less than $5.50? Pinxtos for less than $6 (all of these are from the bar menu, which is a steal btw)?!? Homemade cake for dessert for under $10?!? Does this owner own the building? Is this a money laundering front? How is this possible? How are these prices POSSIBLE?!? These are Spain prices, like, if you went to Spain and ate at a perfectly acceptable, delicious, local restaurant... at heavily subsidized EU prices. WHY is this place not out of business already? Had this place saved for a while (suggested by a friend who loves it), but unfortunately left underwhelmed. We came for a family celebration dinner, parking was'nt bad along El camino. Service was fine. The decor felt vintage, with cute booths and seating along the wall, but unfortunately where we were seated in the middle of the room felt less cozy, with a very strange bathroom/sewer smell that the server never acknowledged (but we could all smell it!). The food varied. Some hits were: - paella (solid, good for sharing but not too large) - sardine toasts (delicious!) - pulpo (very soft, one of the better I've had) Some misses were: - pork shoulder on toast (just felt like ham) - patatas bravas (fried okay but sauce wasn't great) Overall, the flavors had hits and misses, but the portions felt a bit small for the price. * 3.5 stars I had been wanting to try Iberia for a while and decided to have a celebration here. Made a reservation for a group of five, it was a bit tricky to find parking but we were able to find street parking a few blocks down. The restaurant is definitely on the smaller side so make reservations especially if you have a bigger group. We were seated in the side room, but placed right in the middle of the room while all the other tables were along the wall. While I could see the cozy atmosphere for the other tables, we had lights right over us and were in the middle of the room, leaving us feeling exposed. We also had open view of the kitchen and restroom (with occasional wafts of strange sewer smells...) but couldn't as to be moved as the restaurant was packed. For food, we shared an assortment of plates. We got: Sangria - 2.5/5 - I was disappointed by the sangria, it tasted watered down Paella - 4/5 - the paella was solid and the small was enough for us with all the other dishes Sardine toasts - 5/5 - the sardines were flavorful and not too fishy Pulpo - 5/5 - I'll always get pulpo at a tapas place, this one was cooked just right Patatas bravas - 3.5/5 - the potatoes were nicely fried, I wasn't a big fan of the sauce though Artichokes with chanterelle mushrooms - 4/5 - flavorful, had a nice mix of ingredients Turkey pot pie - 3.5/5 - nice warm dish, enjoyed the puff pastry on top but I think the filling was average Slow roasted pork cheeks - 4.5/5 - flavor and texture were great, portion was a bit small Pork shoulder on toast - 3/5 - sounded great on the menu but wasn't anything spectacular, a bit plain Overall, there were some hits and misses with the dishes. We've dined here twice recently and the food was excellent both times. Among the dishes we liked were - A bread basket - variety of fresh basked - Pulpo octopus appetizer - Fried artichokes - Large Zarzuela seafood paella with large and generous portions of prawns, scallops, lobster, bay shrimp, squid, octopus, and clams braised in a traditional cazuela with saffron, white wine & aromatic spices - Paella Iberia with saffron-infused rice with chicken, pork and seafood. A small size is enough to share with 2 to 3 people, but it's also available in a larger size - A refreshing red sangria The desserts for us were not their strong suit. My wife and I treated our friend to Iberia Restaurant for his birthday. All the food at Iberia is delicious. The paella was probably my favorite. It had the crispy bits at the bottom and it was loaded with meat and seafood. The pulpo portion was generous and was super tender. The gambas had a nice spicy kick that I loved. I had cod fritters when I was in Lisbon that were delicous, and when I saw it on the menu, I had to order it. They were delicious; crispy and not too fishy. I also recommend the scallops on toast. The scallops were beautifully cooked; super sweet and tender. One of my favorite bites. When we came during lunch, I was surprised that there was no one in the restaurant. Craving paella? Drive to SF, park'n'dine, drive back, and you would've still saved time as compared to coming here and waiting for your food. I called around 5PM for a 6PM reservation, and they were able to fit me in. In hindsight, do I regret that phone call? Yes. There is only street parking, but luckily the street is pretty empty so it shouldn't be a big issue. The restaurant is cute and small, which makes it perfect for date night...right? Well, if a date night means yelling to hear one another, over 1 hour wait times for food, and ears hurting from a party of 15+ people next you in a restaurant not built to accommodate such a large party, then this is a pretty decent spot. If any of the above is a dealbreaker, then avoid taking my steps. Noise levels were through the roof, and paired with how long I had to wait for my food to come, it was basically 1 hour of overstimulation in what I was expecting to be a quiet date night with my wife. The restaurant is basically the size of 2 or 3 living rooms, so sound insulation/dispersion was nonexistent. Tables were shouting to hear and talk to each other. Wait times were CRAZY. I came in at 6, ordered at 6:10, and food came exactly 1 hour later. Around the 45min mark, I was seriously debating to c(r)ash out on my check for an appetizer and leave. Did I mention that they force a 20% "tip and service charge?". This method makes this place have ZERO incentive to prepare your food in a timely manner, much less try to give you good service. NO ONE checked up on us when they know we've been waiting for a hot minute, and you'd expect with the long wait you'd get some free bread right...? Nah that'll be $8, and with the service charge, basically $10. For some bread to accompany you in your painfully long wait. Let's move on to the food. It is objectively decent, but portions are pretty small. I ordered a fideau and Iberian paella. The fideau is pretty good and flavorful, and the meat was tender. The price is a little steep for the size, but at least it came served in a cute little cast iron pot. The Iberian paella says that it serves 1 to 3 people, but it probably served 1 with some left over. My wife and I were NOT full at all, even after the paella and appetizer. The dish itself was pretty good, but again, price to portion ratio is not competitive if we're being nice here. Given that the bottom turned into crispy rice, it's a lot like seafood dolsot bibimbap (korean stone pot rice). Horrible wait times, ignorant service (no check ups during our long wait time), too loud for what this place advertises itself as, and overall low price to portion value makes this place a hard miss for me. HOWEVER, if you enjoy this kind of thing, then objectively the food is not bad. If you're not, then I'm sure there are better choices out there for paella, date night, you name it. But hey, maybe I'm just not accommodated to life on the Spanish coast! read more

If you're looking for some authentic, Spanish cuisine in the SF Peninsula, I recommend this place! From the moment you get there, the exterior looks very European! Once inside you feel transported to a small Spanish town. The interior is very cozy and intimate. We ordered several typical tapas. Patata bravas, croquetas and pa amb tomaquet to start. The food came out and looked so delicious. Tasting them also was another level. The food tasted fresh, full of flavour and an authentic. The food tastes as if you're at a family dinner, full of good seasoning and flavours. We ordered the paella to share, and of course you have to order it sacarrat style which is with crispy edges. The desserts were amazing and súper good! The service was great, with our hostess checking in with us throughout the dinner. I've driven by this place hundreds of times and finally got to try it. Came here for dinner with a friend. Parking is difficult - street parking only along a busy street but it is close to the Caltrain station. They have happy hour at the bar on weekdays until 6pm. We were able to try a bunch of different dishes. Overall portions are pretty small for the price - often the tapas are one piece or 3 small dates etc for $5-$6. The paella was pretty good and filling. For two people we ended up spending about $60 each without dessert. I dislike how they add an automatic 20% gratuity regardless of size of party, which defeats the purpose of having a tip. read more

I am less than a 5 min walk from this place and have dined at Iberia at least 3 times. After not having been in over a year, I ended up dining here twice within a week! I organized an adults only dinner for a party of 6, and it was so much fun sampling all the tapas! The gambas al ajillo is my favorite dish! I've dined at many Spanish restaurants, and I think it's the best at Iberia. The sauce is very garlic and seafood forward, I always order the bread service to sop up all the sauce. The bienmasabe, fried cubes of mahi-mahi, was a flavor bomb in my mouth. The fish is lightly fried, and a small amount of vinegar is released when you bite into it. It's so tasty! Surprisingly, the callos ala madrilleña, was quite delicious! Who knew trotters and tripe could taste so good? We also ordered the small paella Iberia to share, and it was totally delectable! The saffron rice was cooked perfectly and it was full of seafood, chicken and pork. My only gripe would be that I wished it had more socarrat! Otherwise, the flavor profile was spot on. All the food paired well with the house made sangria, which we ordered a pitcher of. Some places make their sangrias too sweet or with too much hard alcohol, but Iberia's version is perfect. We enjoyed the food so much, I brought my sister and brother in law to try Iberia the following week. My brother in law is part Basque, so he was excited to try! We ordered some of the same dishes, but tried new ones as well. This time, we tried the oxtail and a pasta dish, similar to a cannelloni in a cream sauce. My daughter who has an aversion to tomato sauce would love this dish! We're so fortunate to live so close to a fantastic Spanish restaurant! I just perused their website and discovered that they offer cooking classes as well. We're actually going to go again in a few weeks to treat my parents for my dad's birthday since he's never been. Great HH destination on the Peninsula for 1-2 people. Available only in the bar area. My friend and I ordered about 2/3 of the HH menu and liked everything. Our favorite was the pintxo de atun. The paella was the perfect portion for 2 people as part of a meal or enough for 1 person who wants to make it their whole meal. It's not my favorite paella but I liked that it came with a lot of seafood. Be careful though because if you keep ordering, the tab sneaks up on you. Yesterday we had a plan to celebrate our anniversary at this place where we dated before. I called them at 1pm and made a reservation for a table for 3 at 7:45pm. My family arrived at 7:40pm only to find out they did not write it on their list. The lady, Va***sa (* as courtesy), was like, they probably forgot to put it down, you can wait there but don't know how long the wait would be. I said how could this happen, it's my anniversary. Lady said, can't do anything. It's not her fault and she's "trying to be nice". Her language with attitude makes it sound like it's our fault to go there. I asked to speak to the manager, was told no manager and the owner left already. That leaves Yelp the only place I could tell the experience and complaint. read more

Divine tapas with a cozy, warm, throwback era interior, plush and civilized not often seen these days. I'm sick of sleek modernist slick interior with awful acoustics and hard edges, where sound creates a cacophony of noise, can't hear echoing other. This place his the opposite: lush fabric and lighting, and. Though we went for lunch, and daylight makes it seem different, I can only imagine the glory at night. It's romantic and sweet. The food keeps up with this: everything (except the pot pie) was yummy the sardine appetizer, fritters with aioli, grilled octopus with charred edges and a bean salad and wait for it to... their cheese bread was one the best thing to slide into my mouth. No joke. It's decadently unctuous with grill mark, and just the right amount of cheesiness where it melts into the bread rather than sits atop. So many things on the menu we're excited to try next time. The only miss was the pot pie, but honestly WTF was I thinking? Why did I order it? It was hankering for those American dreams of home cooking. So it's on me that I ordered it. Their customer service is incredibly gracious and sweet, welcoming, down to earth, almost like a family welcoming. The proprietor came over to introduce himself and has a beautiful sense of transparency and communication skills that we can only aspire to. When we gave feedback about the pot pie, they took it off the bill (we did not eat it), which our server could see. The prices are more than fair and reasonable. My partner and I were looking forward to revisit this once peaceful place. Our family shared the Seafood Paella, tapas, and salads, all satisfying. The manager was personable; and the service welcoming. We loved the sangrias, margaritas, the tapas and the Seafood Paella. The shrimp in the paella was served unshelled. All in all, a good experience. Yet, if management aimed to provide customers with an Iberian ambiance, their background music, mostly Pop Rock, from the 1970s and 80s was counterproductive. An absolute gem of a restaurant! I've had this place saved for a while and finally decided to check it out with a group of friends for a celebratory dinner. Since there were more than 9 of us, I had to call ahead to make a reservation and was told that we would be partaking in the 55$/person set menu. Everything was very upfront in terms of pricing, though we did not know what we were being served beforehand; but the food absolutely blew me away! Starting with a charcuterie board already laid out upon arrival, we were served dish after dish of deliciously presented tapas--from the classic jamon iberico that melted in your mouth to sardinas a la sal, every plate was rich and elegant. In total there were about 8 different tapas, more than enough for all of us to share. The final dish to end the night was of course the paella. Topped with clams, scallops, chicken, octopus, fish, and shrimp, it was the absolute centerpiece of the table. Honestly it was one of the best paella I've had, even compared to visiting Spain. Came here with my wife and daughter for an early Mother's Day weekday lunch. We didn't have reservations but were able to get seated with no wait with about half the tables being full. It had a very European feel interior and I loved it! The lady who worked the front of the restaurant was very friendly, nice and informative when we had questions about the menu. We chatted with her for awhile about kids since my baby daughter kept staring over at her. Lots of interesting tapas to choose from as well as bigger family style dishes to share. We decided to go with 6 tapas dishes to try more varieties of flavors and ingredients. We ordered the following and all were good, flavorful and would order again: Bacon wrapped dates (my and my daughter's fave!) Meat stuffed squid Pan seared blue prawns (big dish with big prawns) Scallops with salmon mousse on toast (a standout) Braised oxtail Beef stuffed fried potatoes (loved the crispy crust) The food came out in a very reasonable amount of time which was good cuz I had a work Zoom meeting to get back to! I have not been to Barcelona since 1984, but I remember some epic meals and Paella has been a favorite meal since I was a child. I also love tapas. This small intimate restaurant is charming and it feels like destination dining and is unlike any other restaurant that i know of in the area. I was enchanted with the small table with high wooden arms and the red lightbulb made everything rosy, although out photos turned out very " rouge". We started with La Bomba which was hearty, crunchy and satisfying. For our main course we got the house paella, which was delicious and beautiful, topped with large, grilled head on shrimp and flavored with perfectly cooked fish, chicken and sausage. Paella is all about the rice, particularly the crispy pieces in the corners and bottom of the pan. We ate almost the entire pan. The proprietor of the restaurant was sweet, stopping by the tables of the regular patrons to chat and check in with them. He didn't approach our table. Happened upon this place today and let me say, we absolutely adored our experience. The ambience was quaint and warm and we felt very at home. We ordered the bread service and it was so delicious including small cheese scones among other warm breads. We also had a goat dish and a wonderful pasta stuffed with chicken, veal and pork baked in bechamel. I've passed this place so many times and never gave it a second thought until I married a Portuguese guy who's always in search of Portuguese or Iberian food. We finally made it there and didn't make reservations but it's recommended if you go at a busy time. We did get there early before 5:30 and was able to get seated promptly. By the time we left it, was packed and filled up pretty quickly on a Thursday night. Had lots of tapas. The sardines on bread, the bombas (tastes like portos potato balls, if you've been in SoCal), Jamon on bread ( so moist and succulent), cod fritters, gambas. Everything was great, service was great. Came here to celebrate my bf's mom's birthday. The restaurant is super cozy and almost feels like you're in someone's house. We ordered some tapas but the star of the show was the paella. This dish was so good with a lot of seafood and chicken mixed in with the flavorful rice. read more

My husband found this place close to where we practiced our first dance for our wedding! So glad he did, the food was delicious! We don't often eat Spanish food so it was a nice change. We got there around 6pm on a Friday and it wasn't busy, we got seated right away. The ambiance was nice, there was a lot of decor on the wall which entertained my hubby haha We ordered: - Ensalada de Cesar: This was their famous caesar salad and was apparently really popular but honestly, for $15 not worth it. It tasted like any regular caesar salad lol - Bomba!: this was interesting and delicious! it's supposedly the most famous tapa in Barcelona so we were curious on how it tasted like. loved the taste and how it meshed really well together! - Patatas bravas con allioli: meh, nothing special. it was just fried potatoes haha but my husband enjoyed it! - Paella Iberia: We got the small one since that already serves 1-3 people. It was huge and delicious, I'd totally get it again! There was such a generous amount of seafood and the meats included were all so soft and tender. Yum! We'd be back for sure! Came here with friends on their recommendation. Before we ordered, we asked our server for separate checks which she said wouldn't be a problem. Minutes later, the owner came over to say no to separate checks. The lame excuse, he didn't want to mix up the orders but we could use two credit cards which made no sense. The paella was good, but the owner's attitude and the 22 percent mandatory gratuity won't make me a return customer. read more

Calling in the reservation they answer even during closed hours. Super accommodating. Love their paella. Best paella I ever had. Not dry, or too salty. I always look forward to left over to enjoy it again later on. Must order the pasta with chicken and beef. Scallop on smoked salmon spread is my weakness here, too.
