My husband has recently developed an interest in ice-skating and this was the closest rink to us. He started taking classes here as well as coming to the free skate sessions. To be honest , I like this place. I took both my daughters to skating lessons here. They are 3/5. They both started to like it. I know this place is bit messy but I feel they just do minimal maintenance to let people enjoy time on ice. And I think I am fine with that. The place is dirty, old and musty. I would not be surprised if there is mold on the walls, the ceiling and the bathroom. Yes, the bathrooms are gross. Right when you enter and head down stairs you can see the trash and thick layers of dust and dirt. How does the city allow this place to run ? It's quite expensive as well. Horrible ice as others have mentioned, ceiling is leaking onto ice creating dangerous holes, ceiling is destroyed. Zamboni smells like shit is probably poisoning all the guests, I arrive late and leave early to avoid that now. signed up for adult skating classes, 0 reminders and missed the first class. the classes are very short and you barely get any personalized feedback as the instructor to student ratio is crazy. Car was broken into in the parking lot which cost more than the skating fees and skating lessons. Pros: if you get skating lessons, public skate is free which is an amazing perk and that is why it's 2 star instead of 1, actually I think it's still a one star The management here must be so incompetent to let this place run like this, they charge as much as the nicer rinks in the bay because they know for cupertino residents, San Mateo and Sharks ice is a further drive. It's so busy so they have no incentive to put any money back into the rink, the owners must be crazy rich with how many people they can get into this shit rink, this is the true American dream where they get super rich by taking advantage of being he only rink in Cupertino. read more

We are very disappointed with Cupertino Ice and the only reason we're still going is because my son likes to ice skate. The coaches are just showing the kids what to do and are not even checking how the kids are doing. We started in November and bought a package of 8 classes and my son used a chair the whole time to balance himself and no one tried to convince him to skate without the chair. I shared my feelings with the manager, and it got better for few weeks and now it's even worst. During class, the coaches stood aside and talked to each other without even looking at the kids, they are showing kids how to skate but they are not helping kids that are not following them (there were two adult coaches and two young coach helpers). After that they gave the kids to collect rubber ducks from the ice for 7 minutes (out of a 30-minute lesson) and of course, the coaches barely paid attention to the kids. I asked to talk to the manager and was told she is in a middle of class, she is one of the coaches, so I asked if they can let her know that I would like to talk to her after class. After the class she was busy and still on the ice so I waited but then she came off the ice from a different door and went straight to her office even though she knew I'm waiting for her!! If your child is not enrolled to the classes, do not enroll them! We feel that it's a waste of money! We have few classes left and we hope to find a different place for ice-skating. read more

Whoa!!! Such bad reviews! I have to admit I agree with most of the reviews, but if you can ignore/overcome then it's not that bad at all. So, let me start by addressing some of the complaints. The customer service, it is very true that the girls at the front manning the register truly do not care about helping you at all, and yes they are too busy talking with each other and don't expect any smiles or helpful answers to any of your questions. If you go in with very low expectations, it really doesn't matter what their service is like. I mean you are really there to use the ice. The next complaint was about the ice and how it's not clean, but this is not true all the time. There are times when the ice is a little dirty, but it doesn't really change your skating experience. Lastly, the ice skating lessons. My daughter takes ice skating lessons here, and initially when she was in the introduction class, I thought what a waste of time, but I promise it gets better with the pre-alpha class which is after the introduction class. As you can see in my picture, they do try to help with form and learning the skills. The best part is my daughter has access to all the public skating times because she takes lessons here. I think that's a great deal! If you can just overlook everything else, it is a nice place, and as long as your child loves it, it really doesn't matter. My daughter told me I should give the place 5 stars, but I told her that I need to take one star for the customer service, and she agrees! Last reminders, don't forget to bring a jacket, it's cold down there and make sure to grab some snacks if you are staying a few hours because they have some expensive vending machines that your child might ask you to buy for them! This place is horrible. Quite literally the worst ice skating rink i've ever been to. The building is practically falling apart (see picture) and the ice quality is really bad. They don't go around with the zamboni enough so the ice is super bumpy and it's basically worn down to almost the underneath floor. They increased prices for the holidays to $20 for this horrible ice quality? Btw I asked them to go around with the zamboni and they refused even though the ice quality was horrible. These bad reviews surprise me. Every time I come here it's great. Sure, they could be understaffed or the staff in a rush but that's the way the world is now. Businesses are struggling with what they got and the folks running this place keep it going even after Vallco was shut down. I miss coming here on Cheap Skate nights. Sometimes I'd come here before going to my night crew job. Came here a lot during the summer through a school program when I was younger. This place is dangerous. I appreciate its existence. I originally wanted to ice skate in San Jose but the rink was closed, so I came here. IT WAS PACKED. Full of every age group and a lot of safety padding with helmets. The kids are EVERYWHERE. Some are talented. No words can describe the other types of things I saw. Balancing is tough enough, avoiding children is an extra hazard, and the lovely people who get in the way. It's too small and too crowded. What a mess. 100 people pushing, shoving. Super crowded, old, ugly, dirty. We registered our 9 yr old for a first time ice-skating class (they call it "intro") and nobody could tell us where to go. It took 15 minutes to find the group. The teacher would focus on one kid for 10 minutes and since the class is 30 minutes, only 3 kids would get any attention. The other 6 none. Save yourselves some time and money and go to San Jose's ice rink. This place is a dump. read more

We came on a Saturday night around 8pm and it wasn't too full. There was music playing and overall the experience was good. Sometimes size does matter. I found Ice Center Cupertino to be small and crowded, which is not a good combination and can be especially intimidating for beginners. There are some lockers on site, but people apparently try to save money, as I saw belongings strewn all over the benches and floor. Sharks Ice in San Jose is cheaper than this place for admission only or skate rental only. But when purchased together, they're slightly cheaper at Ice Center. My recommendation is to pony up and head over to Sharks Ice for a much more pleasant experience. Unless you're one of those people trying to save money. read more

Sharks Ice is always my go-to rink, but since it was closed for a private party, I decided to pay this ice rink a visit. I haven't been here for a very long time so I thought it would be nice to see the rink where I used to train at when I was younger (probably 17-18 years ago) before I moved. Anyways, I came here on a Saturday night and it was pretty packed. 10 dollars to get in and not sure how much the rental skates cost though since I brought had my own. Right when I started to skate on the rink, I regretted it. The ice did not feel right at all. It seems as though they are not maintaining their ice very well because the ice was horrible. It wasn't smooth at all like it should be and my spins didn't even feel right. Even after the Zamboni resurfaced the ice. It was a little better, but still not good enough. Also, you can barely even see any of the lines anymore. This rink is okay for kids and those just wanting to skate around, but other than just having fun, messing around, I would not recommend this rink to anyone. Overall, I do not think I will be returning here until they remodel or renovate this place. I'm just going to stick to the Shark's Ice :) read more

I'm not an avid skater by any means, but I had a really nice time here. Very reasonable prices, was only $11 for unlimited skating and rental per person (with student ID). Staff was very friendly. Would have been nice if they had a locker room to change, the bathrooms were a bit small and dirty, and they didn't have any coat hooks or shelves to use while changing. I agree with other reviews that they don't clean the ice enough, so it got very messy very fast. They blocked off part of the rink randomly for 30 minutes for a short private lesson, which was a bit unusual as it encumbered the rest of us. The mix of novice and experienced skaters also made it a bit difficult to skate quickly without risking any children's lives. But, at $11, can't really complain. read more

Although I agree with the previous reviewer that it is definitely a little on the dark, dingy and difficult to navigate side, it is still one of the only ice rinks around this area. Hence for lack of better competition, this place gets my 3 stars for its overrated, overpriced ice skating services that hit the spot just right sometimes when you want to take a swipe at the rink and brush up on those rusty skating skills. They have poor storage solutions so I suggest bring nothing in with you that you don't absolutely need ... and wear lots of warm clothes! read more

My daughter took lessons here for one session. Never again. During lesson times, the changing area looks like a mosh pit. It is nearly impossible to get around. Sometimes the instructors have so many students in their class that it doesn't appear that any child is getting the attention that they need. This might work fine for older or more advanced students, but those who are just starting out it isn't such a great experience. Also, after observing several instructors, it appears that there are only two or three persons who are actually trained teachers; most of the others are just former figure skaters who didn't quite make it to the Olympics. They're mostly nice and well-meaning, but I don't think that just knowing how to skate means that you can be a good skating teacher. I mean, I know how to play the piano, but that doesn't make me a piano teacher. During open skate, it's a free-for-all. Not a good place to bring very young kids who want to get their first taste of skating, because there's a high likelihood of getting smashed into by some hyperactive kid with poor control, or by a line of teenage wannabes who think it's fun to link arms and skate as some sort of 10-headed-20-legged creature. Believe me, it happens at least a couple times during each session. And as far as I can tell, there's no one actually enforcing any rules of the ice during these session. For that matter, I'm not certain that they actually have any rules. The ice gets jacked up pretty quickly with all the traffic that this place sees. For non-skating parents, there's almost no place to hang out and watch your kids, waiting for that inevitable injury at the hands (or rather, feet) of another skater. read more

This past Sunday we took my daughter and her friends to this Ice Center in Cupertino from Mountain View. We got there about 3pm. Before we left, we checked on the website that it is open until 4:30 on Sundays. When we got there we were told they were closing for the day in 30 minutes. They told us they didn't update anything on their website for a while. and they wouldn't give the girls a discount for 30 minutes skating. Booked a birthday party here. Took the platinum package. Here is my overall experience. First UPDATE the website,which shows different rates from time to time (old rates,they claim) and says party bags and decorations are included in the package,which is not the case. It was 25$ per head for party package. Party coordinator should be doing a better job with follow up . She called me on a Friday to come and see the party room and to answer my questions. When I showed up on the time that she suggested, she wasn't there!! Drove all the way in rain for nothing! 1 hour in the party room ( ice hockey players locker room) and then skating with general public. Pizza was average with too much melted cheese. Staff members were not in the rink at any time ,and couple of kids started throwing ice at each other. People were falling in to the pits, which were there. Place is badly in need of maintenance. Went there on a Friday night, the ice skating rink is smaller than other ice skating rinks I have been to. which causes it to become very crowded There were no employees on the rink managing safety or the flow of traffic. People were skating in all directions. There were several young irresponsible figure skaters recklessly skating and bumping into people. My friend had to go to the emergency room to get his pinky stitched as a direct result of Ice Center's negligence. There was a young man skating at fast speeds not watching where he was going, he not only caused my friend to trip onto the ice, but he ran over his pinky with his skate right afterward. I don't think any of these reckless skaters had the intention of hurting people that day, but Ice Center employees should have dealt with them. After my friend's pinky was sliced open, we proceeded to the front desk to get help. The employees are not trained in basic first-aid and offered no assistance. The only thing they had in their kit of use were band-aids and alcohol wipes. The supervisor in charge was trying to stay away from us and he seemed to not want to get involved. We had to go up to him and ask him to at least give us napkins as my friend's pinky was bleeding quite profusely at this point. Since we were there for not even 20 minutes before this happened, I asked if my friend and I could at the very least get a refund because I now had to take him to the ER, and the supervisor would not allow it, but instead offered a 'good luck' at the emergency room. If you care about safety at ice skating rinks then I would look elsewhere. read more

My children have been using this facility for 2 years. There isn't much choice close to home around here, so we are basically ok for this place given the fact that my children are still young and not really dreaming for the Olympic or Sharks. This place is mostly crowded with local teens, and you can see parents watching with suppressed aspiration for their youngsters. The front desk clerical work seem to be handled by high school punks or interns or temps, they usually are not friendly, don't smile at all and lack basic customer service knowledge, sometimes even giving incorrect pricing and schedule of the classes. Not very professional. All in all I am ok with this place if not because of the incident that happened last night -- A young female worker with heavy makeup was standing in front of the entrance chatting with her pals, my daughter tried to dodge the worker's wiggling foot when she went to join her group lesson. My daughter tumbled and fell, as she was standing up, her blades scraped the boots of this chatty worker (later we learned her name is Carmela). We were told these $200 boots were damaged as my daughter was tring to stand up. Later after the class another woman named Jessica came to approach my wife and indicated she is a manager of the Ice Center. She commented someone has to be responsible for the damage to Carmela's boots, it was $200 dollars. We were, and still are in shock that a sports venue's manager does not know the protocols of facility liability and came to threaten my family that we need to pay for the boots. Overall, you'd expect this place's unfriendly service (if there is any), and always remember the old saying that you get what you pay for. read more

If I could give this zero stars I would. The rink is a absolute DUMP. Do yourself a favor and drive 10 more minutes to Sharks Ice - you'll thank me. The place STINKS, the bathrooms are DISGUSTING, there is not enough space for people to get their skates on, etc. There is nowhere to be if you want to watch an actual game. There is a HUGE flight of stairs to enter and exit the rink. Parking is a nightmare because of Benihana. The programs are misleading and the management is incompetent.. You've been warned! read more

One of my besties totally sparked this review for me. I am a former figure skater. Yes, just like the ones in blades of glory. I am Chazz Lily Micheals. I never skated at Vallco until I started working at Apple. It's within walking distance of our building. Imagine that?!?! If you work in the area, you get a special lunch time rate if you show your badge. I think its about $4. ANY company in the area. Stepping into this rink brought back SOOOO many memories from my days at Eastridge in San Jose. The smell, the zamboni, the old feel to it. I LOVE IT. I don't need a nice, new fancy rink. Just give me ice and I'll do my thing. (I still got a few moves down;) I especially love coming here at lunch and its dead empty. BEST unwind from a hectic morning full of meetings! Skating used to be my life. Now as an adult its quite sad that I don't get my butt here more often. I spent many awkward, too-tall, too-tomboyish 10-year-old moments here. My mom played roller hockey and wanted me to follow in her footsteps. I added ice, and though I took lessons, they just weren't really into the idea of a girl getting beat up by boys half her size. Oh well. Thanks for the complex. I distinctly remember strict rink rules though. Now they let little snotfaces run around the ice in their Uggs, and the ice is so chipped up and slushy that it's VERY unsafe to practise your figure skating. They let little kids mess around in the middle part, which is supposed to be for figure skaters, and I swear if I could I would kick them in their little faces in a sit spin. One of my friends almost LANDED on one of the kids after a jump because their dad wasn't on the ice and on one was watching her. Maybe teenagers shouldn't be allowed to run ice rinks ? This place is horrible. Looks like it hasn't been cleaned or vacuumed in a few years. Teenagers sitting around in the office that supposedly work there but actually not doing anything helpful. All are extremely rude. One was sitting on the counter playing with her cell phone. Also beware of the skating lessons. They will charge you for 30 minutes but you will be lucky if you get 20 minutes. Not sure who owns the place or if they give a crap about this dump. read more

OK, this place has been around FOREVER, but Mr. Mark doesn't do ice-skating. At least I didn't ice-skate until I had kids...so after a failed attempt at "Sky-High" (too crowded), we took our sub-ten twin daughters to Vallco's ice rink for an hour of Rocky Balboa-like skating. We found the rink after winding our way through the dusty and dark corriders of the "now under construction" Vallco Fashion Park. I remarked to my spouse how I'd love to shoot a horror movie here. She didn't think that was amusing. Anyhow, we find the rink, and people, it is COLD. Yep, go figure, a huge effin' lake of ice in the middle of the room might do that. It costs $10/person to skate, including skate rental, so we go into a semi-smelly, but well-ventilated, locker area to lace up the skates and go at it Boitano style. Mind you, we were roughin' it, no girly-man gloves or hats for us, son. Upon the harsh and unforgiving terrain of the lake of ice, I noticed that there were many kids whirling about and speeding by me like so many cherub-cheeked dreidels. I could not twirl, but, I could grasp blindly along the side rail and attempt to move in an altogether un-awkward fashion on the ice. My kids were doing better than me, as was the old lady. By this time, my feet and ankles had begun to hurt, raging against this form of Olympic-like exercise. I decided to go full out, to push the envelope of my abilities, so to speak. So I pushed away from the railing like a baby eagle fluttering precariously from its mountainside nest. Pumping my legs in elegant motion, I started to catch a glide, a fantastic rhythm, if you will, upon the harsh Arctic surface. I was unstoppable--a picture of improbable grace--a 200 (ok 220) lb., 30 (ok 31) year-old man in questionable condition, drifting ghostlike across the white expanse. Picking up more speed, I got a bit cocky, and brought my outstretched hand inwards to assume a more imposing stance. CRASHHHH! That was my downfall, gentle reader. As the tip of my rented (and no doubt, dull), blade caught a huge divot in the otherwise virgin icefield, I toppled over, headfirst, losing the sublime grace I had worked so hard to achieve. Managing, even in defeat, to stand proud, I dusted myself off, laughing off the life-threatening tumble, to the shock and awe of the (mainly) kiddie crowd. Waving so as to alleviate any fears about my health, I skated off the floor to return to a more pedestrian, non-bladed, mode of transport. My kids and wife were having a blast, as Vallco turned on some disco lights with background music for effect. Alas, my presence on the "dance-floor" must have been sorely missed. read more

Well, I expected to fall on my face a lot during my first ever attempt at ice skating (as far as I can remember). Instead I only fell on my butt twice, so five stars! Right, we're supposed to be reviewing the rink. Well, the price is right at $10. I did find that it was slightly hard to tell where to get ones' boots from. It almost looked like it was self service, until the guy suddenly came back from wherever he'd been hiding and sorta barked at me. Also, my laces were very different from one skate to another. The right skate had long laces that I had to wrap around my ankles, whereas the laces on the left one were kinda short! Also, I never would've known to tie around my ankles without one of my cohort suggesting as much. It was a bit tricky to get both skates at the same tightness in light of this discrepancy. As for the rink itself, it was fine. I mostly clung to the wall (how else do you think I avoided falling more often?) and at times it was worrisome when the trainer was working with a little girl the size of my elbow, but mostly I had fun. **THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OF THE ICE CENTER. THIS IS ONLY A REVIEW OF THE SKATE SCHOOL.** My husband and his friend signed up for the adult intro to ice skating classes. When they registered, and if you were to go register today, the website says the classes are at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday mornings. Last week was the first class, when we arrived at 11 a.m. we were told the class is at 12:15 p.m. instead. Last week, there were 4 instructors for about 10 students. Everyone has a different starting level and the instructors checked in with everyone, gave out suggestions, and had some one-on-one time with the students. Everything seemed good. This week NONE OF THE INSTRUCTORS SHOWED UP! The supervisor was there at the beginning of the class because she teaches the little kids. She navigated my husband and his friend to the intermediate figure skating class (?!?!) because none of the other instructors where there. YOU'RE THE SUPERVISOR, THIS IS YOUR SCHOOL, STAY AND TEACH THE CLASS FOR GOODNESS SAKE. The figure skating instructor tried her best, but she was alone with 8-ish students. She's supposed to be teaching how to balance on one foot. My husband got ZERO one-on-one time and basically we wasted a trip down from Belmont for this. What, exactly, are we paying for? Ice time? Could you have the courtesy to call or email students and cancel the class? Offer a refund for that day? Obviously, there's no contact information for the skate school. And the rink doesn't take responsibility for what happens during the classes because the skate school "rents the ice from us." The rink itself is fine, the ice is as good as it's going to get with the tech they're using on it. But don't sign up for the skate school and waste your money. Either go to Sharks Ice or get a private lesson. read more

I miss this place, and watching the skaters from outside. I preferred going here to that roller rink in santa clara, which we went to all the time for school events. they used to have beginner's lessons every day on one side, and almost always some child expert would be spinning around in the middle. ice skating in CA is always a trip. you have to pull out the hat and gloves and get all padded up. then waddle out to the rink. i dug the hot cocoa machine. all automated, all amazing. read more
