We decided to stop by this restaurant after someone suggested it to me. It is quite a walk. Once you get to the sign, you have to walk all the way to the back and a Up a steep hill. They did not have high chairs but let the kids sit on the wagon. We ordered our food quickly. The server was super sweet as well. When the food came out, my husband's was covered in red onion which he had asked to not be on the pizza. It was a simple small mistake. The guy took it back and we can see where the pizza was being made. We saw them have a conversation and check ticket. The guy came back and apologized and said it will be a moment. I did feel bad because I ate my pizza and almost finished eating by the time his came out. The margherita wasnt too bad. It was just very saucy and the sauce wasnt sweet it was thick and heavy. I stil enjoyed it and ate a lot of it. I just prefer sweeter ones. My husband absolutely loved hus bbq chicken one. He said there is no red sauce on it and its bbq sauce instead. He was very happy. We came here for lunch while on the island. It's a cute place with a nice garden for the kids to play. It's tucked back so not as crowded. My son got chicken fingers and fries and they were good! My husband got the Tuscan cowboy pizza and he really enjoyed it. I got the Mac and cheese and thought it was good also. The service was a little slow so I knocked off a star. My extended family of 9 adults and two small children at here today. The service was great. The patio outdoor seating was very nice. I had the Nacho's with brisket and all agreed they were good. The entire stack was eaten. The Fried Brie was average. For my meal I got the BBQ chicken pizza and sampled the Tuscan Cowboy, and Pepperoni. The majority opinion of the group sharing the pizza was that Pepperoni was better thanBBQ chicken which was better than the Tuscan Cowboy. Best pizza on the island by far. Their brisket tacos were lights out. They are dog friendly and have bags to play with the kids.

Cheese pizza, 10", 20$ 5/10, cheese was gooey , pizza looked visually appealing, crust was crispy near the edges but soggy near the center due to the heavy cheese and sauce, sauce was unremarkable. Personally not a great pizza taste wise, Opinions may vary. -Service 4/5 Server was attentive, we went at 3pm as the place was open so we were seated quickly, assisted us when allergy concerns when addressed. -Ambience 4/5 very nicely done outdoor seating, shade was plentiful for all seats, there was a small field section where corn hole can be played for the kids, flowers decorated the area so those who dislike the occasional bug may not enjoy the seating provided. -Other/comments Anything over 15$ for a burger is personally crazy. I had the brisket. Excellent except one of the 4 slices was 100 % fat. Slaw was mediocre with flavor. Corn bread had great texture but mediocre with flavor. Wife had the hog. Pulled pork sandwich and she loved it, she wishes she had bbq sauce . Her fries had no flavor in my opinion. Maybe I am having a tasting issue. But I loved the BBQ sauce and brisket. We saw a photo of delicious looking sweet potato fries in the elevator at our hotel and decided we needed to try them...only to be utterly disappointed. The fries were stale, soggy, and tasteless. We also got the shredded pork tacos which were OK. The meat was too tender, if I had to pinpoint it. Everything else about the tacos were great. The service was also just OK, as it took a bit too long to serve what were not even fresh fries. It was nice, though, to eat outside and under an umbrella on a hot day. The Ice House is located behind the hotel. There were lots of umbrella shaded tables so we didn't have to wait to be seated. The food was pricey but you are on an island. I got the fish tacos and enjoyed them as well as a nice big side salad. My husband loved his monte cristo and said it was the best he's ever had. The service was good and we enjoyed a cool beer but we were jealous of some people getting a huge slender glass cylinder of beer being brought to their table. It's a serious workout just getting to this restaurant. It's a 10 minute walk from the dock, and remember there are no taxis or Uber here. Then, you have to climb a steep, lengthy incline to get to the restaurant itself. It feels like I've run the Boston Marathon and this is heartbreak hill. You work up quite an appetite, which I suppose is good, but anyone who has trouble walking is out of luck. There's no way either of our moms could ever go to eat here. But, once you're here, you really do want to stay a while. Besides the idyllic setting, nestled backing up to a forest, this is one of the few remaining places on the island that's still dog friendly. They provide bowls and water for your little critters, which is why we walked all this way. When you go to a place that has BBQ in the name, you expect good barbecue. And, wow, does The Ice House deliver. The beef brisket sandwich was rich, thick, beefy, smoky... everything you want from brisket. Burgers were beefy and lean, but a bit on the cold side. We got pulled pork on top of our nachos, which was nice, except at the pork was a bit dry. But, there was a lot of flavor there. The music was courtesy of the 1990s, which was fine with me. And, the service was casual, but still attentive. The bathroom situation was odd: this is a hotel restaurant, and the facilities are off a swimming pool where guests were swimming. Prices weren't bad, considering that everything on Mackinac Island is inflated. If you have some time to spare, and you don't mind a workout before you eat, this is a great place to go on Mackinac Island. read more

If you have a large party DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. Only seating option was for seating at low budget porch furniture a foot off the ground when there were MANY open tables on the patio. In addition it was communicated upfront that checks could not be split. Host and restaurant manager were RUDE and inflexible! The staff and management at this place need a refresher course on customer service as it was a FAIL prior to even being seated. We will NEVER return to this place on future visits! read more

We needed table for seven and many tables were vacant but we had to wait 40 min and they seated other large group who had no reservation to the available table and offered Japanese style seating to us in the sun. The hostess was able to sit our group of 4 almost immediately. They are short staffed so be aware. It seems to be a common issue every where unfortunately. Our waitress was very sweet and personable, gave us recommendations and was on top of things throughout our meal. If you are use to southern bbq, don't expect the Ice House to match it. This place is tough to score. To start, get a reservation. You can get one a few hours before you eat. We were seated pretty quickly because we had one. There is a lot of outdoor seating here, but as the hostess said it couldn't be used because they had limited servers. This must be a common theme because others have commented about service being slow. Several were turned away or told an hour wait upon arrival. This left them noticeably confused by all the open tables. After being seated, it took awhile to get drinks and order. It helps if you are ready to order everything. I found that each time our server arrived I tried to take advantage asking for anything we might need. I asked for one drink refill the entire meal. It took about 10-15 minutes to get it. Now, I say all this to just prepare all that I think service is typically slow. I felt bad for the server because he was clearly overwhelmed with the amount of tables he had to oversee. On a positive note, the food was pretty good. My wife and I loved the homemade chips and blue cheese dip. The wings were fabulous. Hot and crisp. The ribs were just okay. I think someone else commented that if you are used to southern style BBQ, it is not that. This is true. It reminded me of ribs cooked in a pressure cooker or crock pot. They still came off the bone and sauce was good. My daughter liked the chili too. This was definitely a meal of highs and lows. The peach cobbler was probably the sadness dessert I've ever had at a restaurant. It's super small and had one slice of peach. The rest just bread. The scoop of ice cream on top is basically the dessert. The entire experience took about 2 hours from start to finish. No complaints here because we are on vacation and trying to enjoy relaxing. But, if hoping for quick BBQ, it would not have happened this night. If I'm honest, I have yet to be truly wowed by any restaurant at Mackinaw Island. For this BBQ spot, more servers could make it a total winner. It's a great place for kids and families. Beautiful garden setting as you eat. Several games for kids to play while parents enjoy food or drinks. And frankly, the food was better than a lot of other places here. read more

Amazing. Point blank. After having trouble finding a pet friendly patio we found this gem. It's just off the main road and has a secluded patio. They welcomed us and our dogs like we were family.
