Please don't leave! Give it a try! While we were there, we saw two couples come and leave after looking over the menu. I will admit we almost did the same thing, but decided to give it a try. We ordered the pizza, my husband had one of the house beers and I ordered a cider. Everything was amazing. A few things that would have made me feel more of a restaurant vibe would be if there were some sort of a chicken sandwich on the menu and maybe a salad option and also having someone come to the table to take your order instead of having the client come up to the bar to order...just my two cents though :) . Must have gotten rid of their salads, Mac N cheese. Menu is a tiny sheet, was expecting so much more. Order and pay at the bar. Settled on the 14 inch brick fire pizza with anchovies added, smoked whitefish spread and shiitake mushroom crostini. $26.77, missing 3 pizza ingredients. :( Scratched the pizza order. They are out of bell peppers, Calabrian Hot Long Chilies. Two apps only then. The whitefish and the mushroom crostinis were both quite good. 4 Stars on the apps. Disappointed in the lack of pizza ingredients, but overheard our table neighbors indicate the crust on their pizza wasn't so good, sounds like it worked out for us in the end. 1 star for not having onefo Guess it's a progressive dinner tonight. Just a bit out of the way from main Mackinaw City area but well worth the extra couple miles drive. Nice feel to the place which was packed on a Thursday night. There were a lot of families there. Now for the beer. I actually had only the brown ale. It wasn't too bad but not over the top wonderful. I would have had more to at least sample but it was fairly packed and only one TV. We wanted to watch the Tigers playoff game and from the other half of the brewery, we couldn't see the TV. Didn't try any of the food. read more

We brought our dogs, as we always do when we visit this part of the state, and Biere de Mac happily accommodated. The outside dining wasn't a fancy patio, but rather picnic tables set amongst the trees, with autumn bringing beautiful colors. The dogs loved exploring the wilderness while we waited for our pizza, which was brought out fairly quickly. I really wish I had taken a moment to get a pic of the big beautiful pepperoni pizza we ordered. It was *loaded* with pepperonis...seriously, 10 or so per slice. But, we were hungry. It cost $35, which seemed a bit steep at first, but the flavor was terrific. The sauce was rich (the San Marzano tomatoes really come through) and just a bit spicy. There are some truly skilled brewmasters at the helm. Grandma didn't want a beer, but she liked the idea of cider. This was a seriously yummy cider. I opted for the Devil's Kitchen, a powerful (10.4% alcohol) but incredibly smooth brew. I've brewed beer before, and I can tell you that this is something of a masterpiece. This much alcohol is *supposed* to be harsh in a beer, but this is very drinkable. Also, you're not choking on hops, as so many IPAs make you do these days. You can get any beer in a growler or a 16 ounce can. A can of Devil's Kitchen (which is named after a famous cave on Mackinac Island) costs $10. This might sound like a lot, but it's reasonable for the quality and quantity of the brew. This wasn't a cheap visit, but I'd say it was worth it. read more

Great vibe! Love stopping here going to or from the UP. Located right off the highway off the Mackinac Bridge. Ny husband and I haven't been here since Covid. Not sure if the outside area is newer, but I love it! We didn't have a dog the last time we came, so we didn't have a reason to explore the outside. This place is sooo dog friendly! My husband and our pup stayed outside while my friend and I ordered the Montreal brisket sandwich which comes with chips and homemade pickles and drinks. Order inside and you will be given a number. Not a craft beer enthusiast, but stopped in here because we were camping near there, and the Canadian wildfires made it hard to chill on lake Huron, so we hopped over to this place for some sun, fun, and beer. The 4 of us sat down and found out we had to order at the bar. We got flights to try a plethora of what they had. Since I'm not a big craft beer girl, the only one I liked enough to drink again was the Beet Hard Cider. I ordered some of the mustard pretzels and spicy mix to be brought to the table to snack on while we partook in our flight tasting. While sitting there, the 4 of us contemplated on getting food, and settled on the whitefish spread (delicious) & the shiitake mushroom crostini (good, but cold). While I was headed up to the bar to put in my order, the bartender came out with a basket of the whitefish spread and said "here is your order", but I hadn't ordered yet. I said if he couldn't find a home for it, our table would take it, and he gave it to me. The bread was fresh out of the oven! We ended up ordering the Montreal Meat Sammie & the Herb Roasted Pork Sammie, and both were soooooo rich, thank goodness we split them. They were both good, but not memorable. We came here while on a camping trip in the nearby state park. After a long day of driving we were looking for a cold beer and a dog-friendly patio and Biere De Mac fit the bill nicely. The indoor bar and seating area is pretty standard Midwest core, but there is a beautiful outdoor area with tables, fire pit, and other places to sit. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, so we quickly got a couple beers to bring outside. The staff was friendly and didn't mind offering a few tasters to help settle on selections. A really special aspect of this brewery is the focus on beers that reflect their French themes - farmhouse ales, saisons, and similar, in a range you may not get elsewhere. The menu offered helpful tasting descriptions, and I settled on the Dandy Saison, a seasonal selection brewed with dandelions (so cool!). I'm a big saison fan and it was a fun to try such a unique offering. I think one crucial drawback of the experience is the pricing for their smaller pours. They offer flights but not at any special rate, so the inflated pricing of 5oz pours will set you back a lot relative to full pints. Given the limited food menu it seems like the point is to come here for beer - I was happy with my one pint, but I wish there was a more cost-effective way to try more. read more

I went here in a Friday afternoon. It wasn't super busy (which was nice) and I really liked the interior decoration. It felt really well designed. The food here was pretty good. I got the pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty good. I probably would get it without the beer mustard. As this was super overpowering (and I'm not a huge mustard fan). But the flavors were fantastic! A really interesting and unique combination of flavors. Very bold. The montreal meat sandwich was good too, but the brisket was a little fatty. Definitely get lots of napkins if you get food, embrace the mess :) Service was good. They forgot one of our sandwiches but were able to get a new one out pretty quick. We travel all over the state and this is one of our favorites. We come at least once a year. The selection of beer is great and the beer itself is amazing. Truely some of the best we've had. A+ Service also an A+ We usually get Max, but were told he moved on. This year we had Danny who is one of the brewers. We really enjoyed talking to him and the other brewers. Great group of guys. Ok, this was delightful. Their menu is small, and you order at the counter, which was not what I came in expecting. However, all those who commented that the food was really good - they were not wrong! The smoked brisket was amazing, and you can see the smoker running as you pull into the parking lot. I had the pork sandwich and it was extremely flavorful and delicious. We were a little worried because there aren't really any kid-friendly menu items. Our kids got the prosciutto and cheese panini (minus the prosciutto so it was more like a grilled cheese). They declared it to be two-thumbs-up and asked if we could come back again tomorrow. As everyone else has said, the building looks unassuming from the outside, but they've done nicely with the inside. The beer garden, however, is really the piece de resistance here. A fire pit, picnic tables, and cornhole nestled amongst the birches. And a stage set up for live music. They have done a great job transforming the old Beneath the Birches restaurant into a wonderful gathering place with great beers and food. read more

We stopped in here on our way to our family cottage for some refreshments and a break from driving. It's tucked away in a little spot near Mackinaw City, a little off the beaten path but not by much. The brew scene has grown significantly over the last several years. Apparently this one had a rough time with covid shutdowns, and is left with basically a one man show. He said when he started, they had a staff of 40. The beer was great and we liked the cozy almost lodge atmosphere. They have outdoor seating as well, but we sat at the bar. I saw a comment about their food, and we ordered the Goat Yoga pizza. It is technically a frozen pizza, but they are locally sourced nearby. With just one person serving, you can see why they opted for something easy to handle during busy times. The pizza still tasted great and we learned a lot about the area. read more

In town for the week so I stopped in yesterday...my fifth brewery during my stay and beer tender Max ran away w the medal for my favorite!! As I approached the bar I asked Max what I ask every beertender "for what's on tap, what's your go-to?" Max replied w not one but three beers. I instructed him to go ahead and begin my flight w those three. I added the HIGH ABV Devil's Kitchen and Blanche De Ranville. During my tasting I brought up a beer I had tried in another state, prompting Max to ask brewer, Matt who was sitting across the tap room his thoughts on it? Matt eventually came up to the bar so I began to bend his ear about beer styles and such, so this visit just kept getting better as I love discussing beer and breweries!! I approve of them having so many standard height tables and they all have the comfy leather chairs but the wheels are removed and replaced w felt on the bottom so when you slide them around it's not like nails on a chalkboard!! Later a fellow came from the back (flagging me that he's "somebody") and was talking to Matt & Max, he eventually went behind the bar for a beer so I jokingly exclaimed "wait we can pour our own beers?!" Dan replied w a "one of the perks of being an owner" ha. Biere De Mac covers all the bases: friendly owner, friendly and knowledgeable brewer, delicious beer, comfortable and spacious tap room, easy parking and there are probably a plethora of words to describe Max so I'll have to narrow it down to... friendly, knowledgeable, charismatic, I guess just easy to talk to. Before departing I asked Max if there was any other beer I should try? He poured me a taste of the Le Breze Pils, and it was refreshingly light. The brewery wasn't all that busy on a late Friday afternoon which worked in my favor as I got to discuss beer, breweries, and the local scene w Max; which the great conversation kept me there well after finishing my flight. Max falls right in to my brewery hard & fast rule: no matter how good the beer is, 90% of why I come back, or stay so long is because of who's behind the bar, thanks Max for quality conversation. We stopped at Biere De Mac on a slow Friday night in mid October at the end of service. In a town of mediocrity in the culinary scene this place was a welcomed contrast to tourist trap food. Always mean to stop here when passing by, but usually want to keep driving on to wherever I'm going. Decided to make a point of stopping on a recent return from the UP. After a sample, I got the Fleur de Mac, a Belgian dubbel. A good if not particularly distinctive version of the style. After a sample of Panic Ensued--a Finnish farmhouse ale--I got a small one (high ABV, long drive ahead). Very unique. It was brewed with juniper berries and these were noticeable but not overpowering. Nice body, with a drawn-out finish. Got a crowler to go. In a hurry passing through Mackinaw? Stop here anyway. I will admit that I was reluctant to stop in just in case this was a touristy brewery. What I learned is that even though tourists do visit, the beer is very good. There ARE actually vegan options on the menu (baba gannoush, cauliflower bites and even an impossible burger). Tasheena was the sweetest bartender who was not only great at her job, but fun to converse with. I'm so happy we stopped in for a beer and a snack. Looking forward to the next visit. read more
