My flight was from Stockholm Arlanda to Boston Logon through Keflavik (Iceland). Unfortunately, it was not the most pleasant of experiences, but this was at least partly due to factors outside the airline's control. While planes were different, when I had booked my flight, I had reserved the same seat on both planes, in Economy-Comfort. When I went online to check from which terminal the first leg of my journey is supposed to leave, I already found that the flight was significantly delayed (by at least an hour). This delay later increased to almost two... Mind you I only had 90 minutes to make my layover originally, it seemed certain I would miss my connection (if nothing else changed). The plane did, however, get off the ground. Economy comfort seats on this plane were almost as comfortable as First Class (based on appearance). There was a power outlet in the row, but not at each seat (the way it is in First). The flight was uneventful, comfortable, cabin crew was nice, and the bathrooms were, even if by a cubic centimeter, more spacious than I remember from my Austrian Airlines flight. I did make the connection, but before I talk about that part of the journey, let me mention this... One of the people also waiting to get on the plane was talking about a time when his flight was also delayed and he was not able to make his connection. He said that Icelandair paid for a bus to Reykjavik, a hotel, dinner, breakfast, but forgot to cover the bus back to the airport... oops. Connecting flight is where there was some trouble. Because of the delay, the seats got switched around a bit. My economy comfort seat, while still having an outlet, was much more narrow... like economy. Now, I am not a small person, nor am I particularly large. Since I talked about. These seats seemed narrower than some other airlines (either that or my pockets were too full of stuff). I was lucky though, I was able to retain a seat in the same class. There was another person on my flight who was not able to retain the seat there, as was obviously extremely displeased. Again, the flight was uneventful. Food service was good (thankfully economy class includes food). The airline also gives water for free (soda I think too). Planes have WiFi, but unless you are in first class (I think) you have to pay for it. However, it is not a steep price. (Leg from Iceland to Boston cost around $15). I did not use it, but the person sitting in my row did. From my understanding, it may not be fast enough to stream Netflix, but it is enough to read the paper, use social media, or email. Customer service over the phone has a typical hold-time of around 10 minutes, and while not rude, my multiple calls (not all in one day) have yielded agents that seemed extremely disinterested... like they wanted to finish their shift and get out. read more

They left my dog in Iceland and never boarded her onto the plane that I was on for her to come home with me to Boston! My dog was in her crate with no food or water or being let out to go to the bathroom for 3 days, a full 72 hours! They never even acknowledge there wrong doing, so Fair warning... I travel A LOT .. & this is not an airline anyone should support! If your using Iceland air as a place to reach your connecting flight, please don't bother. You probably won't make it, and in the end, pay more staying in Iceland waiting for your arrangements to be made, than if you were to spend more money to just buy a direct flight to whatever final location your heading too. I hate writing reviews that are so negative but this was ridiculous and I don't want anyone to let their dog go through the same torture as mine did! read more

I flew on two flights with Icelandair: Seattle to Reykjavik (on a Boeing 757), and Reykjavik to San Francisco (on a Boeing 767). Pros: - Cabins on both planes were generally clean and well-kept. - Inflight service was efficient and acceptable. Even though the crew wasn't exceptionally friendly, they weren't rude either. - The entertainment system had a good amount of choices in movies, shows, music, and documentaries. The Icelandic selections were especially great. It was a touch screen interface, and very responsive. - Useful information for traveling in Iceland was provided in the magazine and entertainment system, such as a driving tips and places to see. - When boarding, every passenger gets a bottle of Icelandic glacial water, which I thought was a nice touch. The crew can refill the bottle for you later in flight, if needed. - The price was pretty good for Economy Standard, which included one carry-on and one checked bag, as well as advanced seat selection without additional charges. (Note that Economy Light is the cheapest option, and does not include a checked bag). - Flights departed and arrived more or less on time. - None of my luggage was lost, which I was greatly concerned about after reading other reviews. Cons: - No complimentary meals or snacks are provided in Economy. This was despite the flight from Seattle to Reykjavik being almost 7 hours long, and Reykjavik to San Francisco being almost 9 hours. For an airline that doesn't consider itself as low-cost, I don't view this omission as particularly acceptable, especially not for flights with such durations. Fortunately, you are allowed to bring your own food onboard. - Drinks are complimentary, but only non-alcoholic ones. Beers, wines, spirits, and cocktails have additional charges. - Head phones are provided for the entertainment system, but are not complimentary. Bring your own instead. - Wait times for the call center are generally extremely long, at least in my experience. I have always had to wait at least 30 minutes to be connected to a representative, and on one occasion waited almost 1.5 hours. I highly suggest that Icelandair hire many more call center agents, and outside of Iceland too (despite calling the US number, I always got connected to the center in Iceland, which doesn't always work because of time difference). For both flights, I was provided an opportunity to bid for an upgrade to Saga class, with better seats and included meals. Unfortunately, I was unable to get an upgrade in both cases, but thankfully no charges were made to my credit card. Overall, I found this to be an alright airline, as long as you can handle no complimentary meals or snacks for flights up to 9 hours long. read more

Wouldn't recommend it or take it again. Currently on a flight from DFW to Reykjavik with a 2-hour delay (because of weather though). My final destination is Bergen, Norway. Once we were finally in the air I was happy because finally I could eat, drink and relax. Only problem is their paying system wouldn't take my card even though it works everywhere else and there is money on it. There are no alternative paying systems like PayPal or cash. No effort was put in to trying again or using a different method with the system. For an international flight, this is just terrible, and I can only imagine it's happened to many other customers. For that reason, with the absence of complimentary drinks or food, No, I wont be using this airlines again. Really disappointed. read more

Horrible experience Flying Reykjavik to New York JFK. Our flight FI617 was cancelled and we were re-booked on FI615. After passenger boarding my wife noticed that many bags were being removed from the plane and white cargo containers were being loaded in their place. Many passengers ended up not receiving their luggage from the flight at JFK. It took over 48 hours for us to finally get our luggage. No explanations given. Apparently, their cargo was more important than passenger's luggage. I will NEVER fly this airline again. read more

We recently flew round trip with Iceland Air from SEA to KEF. We paid extra for the economy flex which provide extra leg room. The flight over in terms of seating was very good with plenty of leg room and only 2 seats on each side of the plane with 3 in the middle. We had the window and aisle seat which was great. The seats were not that comfortable but plenty of room. Since we paid extra for those seats we thought we would at least be offered a meal, but all meals are extra. So ok, maybe a snack. No, all snacks are extra. We did get a choice of drinks, coffee, tea or soft drinks. It was a 7 hour plus flight and the service was marginal at best. They serve you soon after you depart and then they all disappear to the back of the plane until late in the flight. The bathrooms were dirty even though we were prompted to clean up after ourselves, yeah right. The flight was on time and we had no significant other issues. The flight back was a nightmare for seating. We again booked economy flex for the extra legroom which we got and it was fine. However the plane coming back was a more standard 3x3x3 seating arrangement with only 3 bathrooms for 160 people or so. This might be fine on a domestic flight but not overseas. The line for the rear 2 bathrooms was at times 15 people deep and I felt bad for those seated in the rear of the plane with passengers standing in the aisle for long periods of time. Again, service was marginal at best. No meals, no snacks and very limited service. Again, except for Saga class, the attendants sat in the back with the current closed. The worst part of this return flight was that my wife and I booked aisle and window hoping no one would choose the middle seat. Unfortunately our companion was 6'-2" tall and weight about 375 pounds. The seats were bulkhead and had the fixed armrests in between each seat. He could not fit in the middle seat without hanging over both the window seat and the aisle seat. He was not a happy camper and asked to speak to the stewardess and the lead person. Although they were nice, there was no solution offered except to change to another middle seat further back without the fixed armrests. I am sure the window and aisle travelers would have loved that move. My wife ended up giving him her aisle seat. She could not even open her tray as he was hanging over her seat. He could not open his tray because he was too big. Staff was apologetic to him but offered nothing to us in a way of apology for having to deal with this situation. The large gentlemen was very nice but it was not a pleasant flight for any of us. He referred to the seating arrangement as being suited for children and not adults, pretty funny. Bottom line, we loved Iceland and the people there but would never fly Icelandair again. We have never flown on a long distance flight that offered nothing other that water, coffee, tea and sodas without paying extra for even a bag of nuts. Very poor customer service. What is the cost of a small snack, maybe 50 cents or even a dollar, so raise your prices one dollar to cover it but that would also require the attendants to work a little harder and that is unlikely to happen based on our experience. read more

You may be tempted to fly them because of their low prices (I was!) but don't! They don't care about their customers at all. We paid $130 to upgrade to extra leg room seats on our flight back to EWR. The day of the flight they resold our seats to someone else and put my husband and I 12 rows apart! We both ended up in exit rows in middle seats. Middle seats on exit rows don't recline and they have the awful screen that comes up from under the seat. Definitely NOT the equivalent of the seats I had paid for. When I contacted them for a refund when we got home, they took almost a month to give me an answer. Apparently, they had a backlog....probably all complaints! When they did finally respond, they refused to give the refund because we were technically moved to "extra leg room" seats. Even though we weren't together and the seats were awful! They just screwed themselves. We travel a LOT and would have given them lots of business in the near future if they didn't have underhanded business practices. So, I guess they'd rather keep my $130 than make thousands off of me in the near future. As for the plane/flight itself. It's very basic. I knew that going in and was fine with it. Some people say their seats are hard. They seemed ok to us. There is very little leg room though and your personal item won't fit well under the seat in front of you...not much room there at all, especially under the middle seats. My husband had a half- full small backpack and it didn't want to fit under the seat in front of him. Flight attendants were nice. They couldn't do anything about our seats though because they were occupied by the people Iceland Air sold them to that morning. They don't give you any snacks, but do provide limited beverages. (coffee, tea, water) Please understand I knew all of that in advance and I'm not complaining about it. I drank water and brought my own snacks. Just posting it here so everyone else understands what to expect. We flew them from Newark to Paris (changed planes in Iceland) and then from Frankfurt back to Iceland with a one day stopover before returning to Newark. The Newark gate had no chairs whatsoever. Boarding was like herding cattle. When we changed planes in Reykjavik, we had to walk outside to the plane. When we flew back to Reykjavik, we had to be shuttled to the gate in a bus. The airport there is not really equipped for all the flights. So, add extra time to your schedule to land away from a gate and be bused to it. We also had to be bused to the plane when leaving Reykjavik. Luckily, it wasn't horrible weather, but it was annoying. Overall, I will not fly them again because of their lack of customer service and their shady business practices. Booking a flight with them is sort of like buying a watch from a guy in an alley....you never know what you're going to get and it's probably not what you want! read more

I was supposed to travel from Toronto to Oslo to speak at a conference. I was staying in Oslo for 3 days before returning to Toronto. Quick work trips are always tiring and leave you jetlagged. You always hope that everything else about the trip is enjoyable. That is why it's important to pick the right airline for business trips. Iceland Air is not the right airline. I did not end up traveling to Oslo but Iceland Air made sure my experience was absolutely horrible from the moment I arrived at the airport. My passport was expiring a month after my travels and because of that, I was unable to fly. Which would had been fine, had the handled the situation professionally. After the attendant noticed the issue at the check-in counter, instead of just telling me that I was unable to fly, they had me wait on the side while serving other customers. An hour later I approached someone and it seemed they had forgotten about me. A supervisor looks at my passport and says she will "look into it after serving this customer." I wait another hour..when she is finally done her other work..the first thing she says to me is I cannot fly. So they made me wait two hours to tell me something they knew from the moment they saw my passport. She even admitted to not having looked into anything or tried anything because she knew I cannot fly. They were just lacking the courtesy and respect to tell me right away. Worst traveling experience of my life and I have not even gotten on the plane yet...which has been delayed. A number of other passengers will miss their connection. Terrible customer service. I was flying out of Paris and I wake up on the last day of my honeymoon to an email saying that Icelandair has overbooked and that they have rerouted our flights through British Airwaves. Turns out, I can't complete check in with British Airlines at the moment because Icelandair has not completed the transaction so I can't get a boarding pass. Also don't bother calling in. After a half hour on hold I moved up in the queue two spots from 18 to 16. Instead of spending a a relaxing last morning in Paris we had to rush to the airport. There is no icelandair representative at the airport. I am running around from terminal to terminal trying to talk to do different airlines while my wife is trying to information to get it resolved. They finally rebook us on our original flights (we are sorry for the poor souls that must have been kicked off). They have not compensated us in any way for the hassle except for seating us next to each other after we went to another desk and begged for that. (originally my wife and I were not seated together on an 8 hour flight). Overall terrible experience. I would avoid them at all cost. This company should be out of business. read more

Definitely not the best airline but its Pretty good for the price. Although they don't serve food on any of their flights ( I don't really get why, even their 5+ hr flights don't include food) and you have to pay for luggages if you are economy light (so you are only allowed 1 carry on) . Cabin crew is pretty friendly and efficient. Their IFE system is awesome, all other airlines I have traveled with usually have IFE systems that are not very responsive, but icelandair's was pretty responsive with no issues. I see a lot of reviews stating that they lost their luggage and prior to leaving I was extremely worried about that, but I had no issues. Overall its a great airline, especially for students. If you are traveling light and don't care about not being served anything to eat. read more

I have never deal with a more dysfunctional company when it comes to flights. If the airline (YOU) we are flying on publicly states they will no longer be flying out of the airport departure city, you think they would go ahead and take care of their customers. Anyway I get the airline and Justfly on the phone at the same time and still can't get this resolved. They now have to send an email to the airline to confirm all of the information. Plus the information given to me of what you think you can do is AWFUL. My original travel I only had one layover on the way out Now I have a layover on the way out and you want me to have 3 connecting flights on the way back when it was directly. This has been nothing but a headache being on the phone with both of them for almost 4 hours and still got nothing accomplished. read more

I cannot recommend enough against flying with this airline after our experience. We purchased tickets with Expedia for a roundtrip LGW-SEA but the outbound flight was cancelled due to bad weather. Expedia rebooked the flight for following day and sent us new tickets with new ticket numbers but when my son went to check in, the contract staff at the Iceland air desk told him they could not find his information and so he could not take the flight. Then they directed him to the Icelandair 800 number because the airport staff does not actually work for Icelandair and cannot access ANY information. At 3am I was on the line with Expedia who could not reach Icelandair but did agree to refund our tickets, and then I was stuck trying to find new last-minute tickets. Buyer Beware. Icelandair is TERRIBLE. I did find the same fare on United/Air Canada with shorter connecting times and I regret not doing that to begin with. read more

Cost for a flight going from Boston to Munich, and return from Charles De Gaulle to Logan was over $2,000 for two economy seats. Booked three months in advance. Where to start? First flight delayed by greater than an hour. Caused us to miss our connecting flight. Original landing in Munich time: 1:05PM. Actual: 8:30PM. Furthermore, we were redirected from Reykjavik to Oslo before going to Munich. Our compensation: 16 Euro voucher per person for lunch. I wrote to customer service two weeks ago and received an automated response. Nothing since. Now I am standing in line again, and the flight is already delayed one hour, which will cause us to miss our connecting flight home. Lastly, the wait in their check-in line is unbelievable. Over 300 people around the airport in Charles De Gaulle. Absolutely terrible. Will never fly with again. We had four flights with Icelandair, and all four of them were delayed by more than an hour. I purchased 60$ flights through EasyJet and Alitalia that were more reliable and offered more than Icelandair. It was an international flight, and not one complimentary snack was offered. Only soda, water, and juice was free. This was a 3+ and 5+ hour flight. Alitalia gave me crackers for free on a 45 minute jump from Venice to Rome. Lastly, their planes are so overused that they don't have the time to clean in between flights, see the pictures attached for what I mean. Icelandair's business model is broken and they should be ashamed. read more

We recently flew to Reykjavík from Boston. We carried on our luggage. Flight was prompt & smooth-no complaints. We were offered small bottles of water upon boarding but then nothing but a beverage for the duration of the five hour flight. The return flight, leaving from Reykjavik was less organized. The boarding process at the gate was quite disorganized. The flight took off one hour late and the only apparent reason provided was that we were waiting for two additional passengers that I believe never made it onto the flight after all. The value was good. Service was minimal. As the saying goes....you get what you pay for.... read more

This is a coronavirus-related complaint. I purchased Saga-class tickets to Europe, but the day before we were supposed to leave, the President of the United States banned travel from Europe (not an issue for me, but an issue for my spouse). I have cousins in Europe, I have in-laws in Europe. We try to fly to Europe 3-5 times a year. Given the circumstances, I called them up, hoping that I could convert our fare to airline credit and use it for a planned trip to visit the in-laws during the summer. No such luck. I could either rebook on a future date (with a *massive* markup, more than twice the original cost of the tickets) or they could keep my money. You get the point: either way they keep my money. The upshot is, I *cannot* recommend Icelandair. One they have your money, they are not particularly interested in keeping you as a customer. So, Icelandair, I hope that you are happy with the $2000 you made off of us. If you'd been even a little accommodating, you'd have made much *more* than that off of us in the future. But since you instead took our money and told us to go pound sand, I can tell you this: We will *never* book another flight with you, no matter how inexpensive it might be, and we will *never* miss the opportunity to tell our friends, family, and students (there are a lot of students!) how poorly we were treated by your airline. read more

I booked round trip to Germany, with a stay over in Iceland. There were some problems with the outbound flight (more on that later), but the coup de grace was the return. Upon attempting to check in the night before my morning flight, I discovered that the flight for the first leg was cancelled. We had received no notification via text, call, or email. When I called Iceland Air customer service, I was informed that there was nothing they could do for me. I was stuck in Germany (btw I do not speak German), with no way to get to Copenhagen Denmark to make the return flight to Reykjavik. There was no offer to rebook me and my family; I was on my own. I have never received such terrible customer service from an airline in all my years of traveling. Fortunately, I was able to book a flight home on KLM from Hamburg via Amsterdam, incurring hundreds of dollars additional costs. (The KLM experience was very pleasant). I also had to forfeit a $150 transfer fee to the airport that was nonrefundable with less than 24 hours notice. All in all, this debacle cost me an additional thousand dollars for two people. Additionally, the airport at Keflavik, Iceland's international airport, is definitely not ready for prime time. Even off season, the airport experience was crowded, chaotic, and exhausting. I enjoyed my time in Iceland, but if you go, find some other way to get there. I will never fly Iceland Air again. read more

I have never left a public scathing review in my life. Always a first for everything. Here are the bullet points: - Iceland air says you can change your flight at anytime online, you cannot. I had to call (1 hour wait time), was disconnected multiple times, went on the chat, they refused to admit I couldnt change it on the website and kept trying to send me to the "my journey" page - finally, they admitted you cant change it online and have to call because we had a stopover in Iceland. - They say you can change it with no fee, only the change in cost of the ticket price, 30 minutes after I booked (should be able to change your booking 24 hours after you originally book), I tried to change to a later flight: same day, same price - I couldnt do it online and the phoneline wouldnt connect (kept dropping). Magically I missed my 24 hour window where I have to now pay to change it. -My family wanted to book the same flight as me, I doomed them to an early flight with my mistake, they called to try and change it since I was disconnected, and the customer service agent tried to sell them a ticket 1000$ higher than what is online WHEN THEIR WEBSITE WOULDNT WORK OR ALLOW A BOOKING so she had to call. AND she got a 100$ phone bill for the call. -They dont tell you in advance they dont include headphones or food in the cost of the flight and you have to pay once on the airplane. -The covid regulations and requirements for your destination is incorrect, literally wrong. In this day and age, everything should be available online to change or edit your see your booking. I have flown internationally with multiple airlines and this is by far the worst experience. Icelandair had terrible customer service in regards to booking or managing your booking. They tried to squeak every dime out of us and their processes set you up to have to pay more. If they were transparent in the process that would be one thing, but they are tricky and deceitful. They lost three customers - and I will spread my negative review as far as I can so they dont get more innocent customers. If you dont care about the cost of the trip or money and transparency, then they are just fine to fly with. The flight and staff onboard and check in was good, but my ethics refuse to fly with them again after the booking issues and lack of transparency. I felt lied to and cheated. If I could leave 0 stars, I would. we had our flight cancelled due to the pandemic surge in December, and in addition, we were dealing with family health emergencies where my sister was hospitalized for a month. I wanted to get my open tickets switched to her name, and in return they refused to even try to help. what did they do? ask for more money to buy another ticket. this is absolutely ridiculous, since other airlines would offer a ticket change. There was no level of customer service, and a huge lack of help. The representative was snarky, and refused to even try to have us talk to the right person to even try. if you're thinking about using this airline, please use another. read more

I had to cancel my round trip flight with Icelandic Air because of the Covid-19 lockdown. I did purchase a non refundable ticket prior to the pandemic. As a courtesy I wasn't offered any credit or other incentive. I was very disappointed in their customer service and treatment. We showed up at Logan after receiving boarding passes and paying extra to check bags and there was no flight and no staff at terminal e in Boston Logan airport. The British Airways staff said that the Icelandair staff presence and flights had not been there for a few months. Yet they still took our friends money for bags and the flight. There was no way to contact them prior to the flights. And they sent boarding passes thru their app. Beware flying them. read more

Probably a decent option for flights if nothing goes wrong, but this past summer, I experienced the most frustrating day ever after having to delay a trip because l was under doctor's orders not to fly for 3 days. I knew there would be change penalties and fees, but I kept being told different things by different agents. I ended up just canceling the reservation altogether, and rebooking on Delta. About a month later, I received a refund in the amount of 1/2 the ticket's price, which would have been fair had agents not assured me that I would be able to receive a full refund. I'm just glad that I was not in the middle of my journey or on one of their flights when I became ill. Terrible experience at a time when I should have been resting and recovering and preparing for the trip changes. I've heard great things about this carrier as a low-cost option for getting to Europe, but the customer service is less than ideal. In this case, you get what you pay for. read more

I found Icelandair to be a great choice for a recent vacation. In a world where airline travel is getting more expensive and airlines rival banks in terms of searching for new sources of revenue, it was nice to see a slightly different business model at work. There were a few factors that initially led to my choosing them for this trip. One, they had flights that left/arrived in Boston at convenient times. Two, the flight was almost $600 cheaper than the next alternative for an open jaw ticket to/from Europe. Three, the layovers in Reykavik were about 1 hour so it didn't feel like a huge inconvenience. My outbound flight out of Boston left at 9:30 PM, which was great as most of the international travel rush through security, etc had passed. Since the airline serves food based on customer purchases (it is not included in the price of the ticket), I was able to eat dinner ahead of time, then once on board I could focus on going to sleep (yippee)! Since we had a layover in Iceland, you had about 4 hours of sleep time, so I could get to work on that right away. I didn't watch any moves on the flights, but looking at the list, there was some dated stuff (Speed --- Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves from the 90's). On the flight back to Boston from Europe, I did buy some lunch (harissa chicken with naan) and white wine. They take credit cards and will charge you in local currency, so your credit card company can get a better conversion rate for you. The chicken was good enough. The flights were a little chillier than some other airlines, but they did have some pretty heavy blankets to fight off the chill. I'll plan on using them again at some point. Iceland is on the list of destinations, and with a short 4-5 hour flight I can see myself using them again sometime soon. read more

Icelandair used to be a sort of idiosyncratic airline in that it mostly seemed normal, but then there were just weird things that ran counter to expectations. This is still the case, but they've toned down the jarring stuff (smelly fish for meals, the cocktail-party effect of everybody on board seeming to know each other), renovated their planes (tv screens!) and kept prices down. Connecting through Keflavik is a little strange, since you are doing it in what feels like the middle of the night your time, morning Iceland time, but in the winter, there's no difference that you can tell. Their presence at destinations can be a little obscure. In Stockholm, they're more or less handled by SAS for example, and when i flew them to Heathrow, they were in a bit of an obscure corner of the airport. I have now flown Icelandair, 3 times and this is my final and last try with them!. I have never had a good flight with them, and it's one of the most "cheap" flights ever, everything costs but when their service doesn't match up there is no compensation. The staff is HORRIBLY inefficient and slow, last flight took nearly 2 hours to get a tiny glass of water. I had flights with NO working monitor, cabin severely overheated, unhelpful staff. was restless in frigid Boston and thought...i have to see an aurora borealis! so emailed a friend in Reykjavík then booked a flight online. left logan around 9pm and arrived keflavic after a comfy 5hour movie and nap. easy and convenient. really wanted sea, sand & sun but the Blue Lagoon`s geothermal seawater will more than do. missed reindeer the last time tho will likely have some christmas eve. also smoked puffin (still avoiding Hákarl aka rotten shark meat). Traveled out of Boston on the Sunday that Hurricane Irene was supposed to come through. First flight int he afternoon was cancelled and booked on a later flight. We didn't get out until almost 1 a.m., about 11 hours behind schedule. But the airline was great about it, re-booked us on new flights, made sure we got to Europe. Ours was one of only a handful of flights that got out of Boston that night. On the way back, they were nice enough to rebook us to give us a longer layover in Iceland so we could check out Reykjavik. All for no charge. The flights themselves were great. The small HD TVs in each seat offer a ton of great entertainment options, including music, TV shows and movies. The food was good too, but it's not free. read more

Icelandair does somethings very well and completely drops the ball on others. GOOD: The inflight experience was really great. The staff is bilingual and friendly. Inflight entertainment was excellent - even though my system was broken, they offered me an ipad. BAD: I missed an Icelandair flight due to a connection issue on another airline. I called their contact center for help, and it was a nightmare!!! The agents struggled to find me any options, and when they finally did, they were VERY expensive. There didn't seem to have any empathy for my situation. I ended up finding another option myself online for thousands less than the agent could. So, either the agents dont want to help customers find low cost options or they dont know how to find low cost options. Either case is awful!! Use them if you want, but just pray nothing goes wrong. If it does, you'll be on your own and you'll have to PAY!! read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. My mom was kind enough to try and surprise me with tickets to Dublin for christmas this year. She had meant to book a flight with a stopover in Iceland so that I could experience the beautiful country. When she realized she booked the wrong fare, a week later as she gifted it to me for the holiday, she quickly tried to remedy it. Since she booked economy light (the least expensive airfare, even thought light is still $650) customer service and corporate in Iceland were unable to simply change the ticket. We were willing to pay the additional amount to simply change the flight home to two days later. BUYER BEWARE, do not purchase economy light on this airline. Customer service even let us know that ZERO refund would be given even if sick/dying with a note from a doctor because we didn't PURCHASE the additional "refund cancellation" extra. It's completely ridiculous that this airline is allowed to operate like this. They clearly have never heard of customer service and that humans make mistakes. Please fly another airline to get to Europe inexpensively. They don't even want tourists coming to their country anymore clearly. read more

Took them out of Munich, and they are the ONLY airline there without self-serve kiosks and also do not offer online check-in. That means EVERYONE, including those without checked luggage has to wait in line for the 2 counters they have to get a boarding pass. It took almost 2 hours for everyone in line to check in, which delayed the flight and almost made half the plane miss their connecting flight in Iceland. Terribly inefficient airline. read more

Horrid customer service. They even lost my luggage, when they supposedly found it they called me to the airport on three different occasions to pick it up and it wasn't there . A month later it is still lost. They do not replace any items in luggage they lost. In fact, they don't even offer you a toothbrush. They are impossible to get ahold of buy phone and all emails go into a black hole. best advice would be don't fly with them! read more

I would give them zero stars if it was an option!!! DON'T FLY ICELANDAIR!! My flight got delayed for 4 hours causing me to miss my layover and I've spent OVER A MONTH trying to get a refund!!! DELAYED FLIGHT COMPENSATION- I am writing this review because when I was in Iceland, my flight was overbooked and I was offer 600 euros to get off the plane OR a free Iceland air flight to any location within a year. I got off the plane so fast! I was given a voucher for the 600 euros. Then I was given a ticket for hotel, ride to hotel, and meals. It was quite nice. Oh and also another plane ticket. When I got home, my friend and I mailed in the voucher. She contacted Brad Stevens (I am not sure how she got his name) and then she got the check back within the week! $661! It took me a lot longer to get my check, Brad was good at communication but the lost my voucher. Luckily I made a copy, and finally I got my check. read more

Flew Icelandair from JFK to KEF / KEF to LHR / AMS to KEF / KEF to JFK. Every single one of those flights was absolutely comfortable and the staff was professional. No cancellations and just a short 10 minute delay on the last leg. Would absolutely recommend them and would fly them again. This is compared to a crappy EasyJet flight on the same vacation where the flight attendants were treating passengers as if they were misbehaving students. Ugh. read more

What a great airline! I wish all domestic airlines were as nice and clean as this one. Our trip to Iceland in January 201 was seamless. No issues, the staff an flight attendants were polite and helpful. The seats were rather comfy....and we were sitting in economy so I could only imagine what Saga class is like. I just wish the airfare was a little cheaper because we would be heading back to visit again. read more

After having missed our flight with Icelandair due to unforeseen circumstances, we requested to rebook. Icelandair's agents made no effort to assist us and, furthermore, cancelled our return flight (this was entirely unjust, as we still planned to go on the trip, and come back on the original date). Requesting that our return flight be refunded, we sent multiple emails to Icelandair, but did not receive as little as an acknowledgement that the message had been received. Icelandair is a corrupt and opportunistic corporation, which, through its policies, takes advantage of passengers' misfortunes to profit (essentially, our return flight seats had been sold to other customers, so that Icelandair could make double the money). Additionally, Icelandair treats its passengers with dismissiveness, which, despite its propaganda about customer service, reflects the reality that it does not value them. As fellow travellers on this site emphasize, heed the warning and DO NOT TRAVEL WITH ICELANDAIR, if you wish for a positive flight experience!!! read more

Hideously bad. Freakishly incompetent. The air crews are lovely people. The ground crews and customer service agents, on the other hand, are utterly useless. If you actually care about having luggage on your trip, look for another airline. If you plan to simply purchase everything you need at your destination, then go right ahead, but even then, don't expect to arrive anywhere close to the stated time. Every single flight is late, and even their own baggage handling company staff admits that they are notorious for losing baggage. Oh, sorry, did I say "lose"? That's what the unenlightened call it. IcelandAir representatives are quick to remind you that until your luggage has been undelivered for 21 days, it isn't "lost", but merely "delayed". Even when they have no idea where the luggage is. Try that yourself, next time you can't find something. For example, don't say "I've lost my keys", say "My keys' arrival has been delayed". See how much better you feel now? Of course, you're still no closer to having your keys, but at least you won't have to admit that you've lost anything. I'm 7 days into a trip right now, still without any of my bags, or my equipment. read more
