I've been twice now for mani-pedis, with two different stylists, and both experiences were really good. The second one ended up taking a lot of time (no waiting, she was just very thorough!) but I wasn't in a hurry so it was actually great. The owner is awesome too. So I went for highlights and a layered cut. First let me review my stylist Constance.....she was great I love my color and cut. At the end I got washed, color, deep conditioned, dryer set, blow out, flat ironed and layer cut which i paid 145 plus tax which brought my grand total to 151.00. I believe an additional 25 was added to my bill because the menu says 40 for a blow dry but I was charged 65 didn't realize until after i left the salon. I think the services are a bit pricey and could be a package deal. I do plan to return a color touch-up, but will continue to visit local Dominican salons for my wash and set at a lower price despite both salons having the same technique for that service. read more

I found this local salon through a wicked good Groupon Now deal for a mani-pedi for only $16. After reading mixed reviews, I decided there wasn't much to lose and purchased the deal; making an appointment the day-of. Things started off shaky when the receptionist called me back to reschedule for the next day (honoring my deal), because the (only) mani/pedicurist for the shop had to leave. Good thing I didn't have plans that day. Overall, I had a pretty good experience! I did not have to wait for my scheduled service, which is always a relief when going to a black salon. Oftentimes, Groupon customers are discriminated again, but Yuki, my manicurist was AWESOME!!! Friendly, precise and detailed.....my nails were fab. I had such a great experience, that I decided to get my natural hair conditioned, trimmed and blew out - which was also a good experience. The receptionist, Carrie was accommodating and penciled me in at the last minute. Constance, my stylist was gentle, friendly and talented. My only qualm was the $114 bill I had to foot by the end of my "experience". lol. Can't complain though - the prices were comparable to other salons in the neighborhood. I will definitely support the salon every time the Groupon Now deal is offered and when I have to trim my ends (twice a year). Just not sure if I can afford regular visits. :) read more

beautiful atmosphere. I got my hair cut here about 3 weeks ago today so this review is a little late. seeing as i have never written a review before but i decided id make this my first time. i went in for a natural hair cut after destroying my hair on my own i first received a consultation then my appointment day arrived and i thoroughly enjoyed my time here. darlene gave me a haircut and made me feel comfortable by engaging in convo with me also suggesting what the healthier route was for my hair. she was attentive i appreciated that. not to mention i was drooling over another sisters haircut that she did right before mine. her pixie cut was amazing, curled and trimmed to perfection. i was also glammed up by her sister who was absolutely beautiful and warm she even gave me a sample of a bronze powder that would aid as a foundation for my skin. all natural might i add. i absolutely love it!! seeing as I'm not very big on heavy foundation the bronzed powder works so well with my skin it gives me a natural glow. all i do is mix it with me shea butter and apply it like a moisturizer. you ladies were great! i will be back. read more

I looked up this salon on line, called and got an extremely welcoming voice on the other end. I made my appointment for my hair (which btw was a disaster) which is only one of the many services they provide. I was greeted by the friendliness I experienced on the phone upon my arrival. Darlene (who is also one of the shops owners) was amazing! Got this hair back to performance mode. She explained what she was going to do every step of the way and even offered some great history on the neighborhood which I am new to. Bottom line is I left the shop with a hair cut and style I love and I am definitely going to be a regular customer. I appreciate amazing work along with good customer service. Darlene the owner (Trained Ursula Stephens) is amazing! Her hands are anointed. I went in with hair so severely damaged and broken off from years of wearing a weave and my hair has been brought back to life. I love Fantasia (who is the colorist, relaxer, shampoo girl) who is the best at what she does and has a GREAT attitude. Darlene is watches them all like a hawk and will step in to correct or enhance what is going on. She may not be known as a "stylist to the stars," but she trained one who is AND she is the star! There isn't a cut that woman can't put down on a head and she will tell you what WILL and WILL not work. Her (Darlene) sister Chanel has a boutique in a separate area (which had I heard it and not seen it wouldn't like both together) and the clothes and jewelry can rival Red Beri (Brooklyn Boutique). Yes, I said that you Red Beri fans-I am too. But, I am a bigger fan of Darlene who really knows how to do hair well. read more

I received the absolute worst hair relaxer and haircut from a butcher named Ceritta at Idalias Salon. This was my first (and last) time visiting the salon. I informed the receptionist that wanted a stylist who is experienced in cutting mid-length hair. Well, I was given Cerrita. I informed her before we started that I DO NO relax my hair straight and I don't like layers. The first thing she does is apply the relaxer, pulling the cream all the way down to the ends. I had to stop her and explain how to relaxer hair. Why to I have to tell an alleged experienced stylist that overlapping relaxer causes breakage. The rest is my fault because I should have never let her cut my hair after the relaxer. I was butchered. She cut layers into my hair all over. On top of that, when I got home, I noticed that she didn't cut that back of my hair straight with a difference of about two inches. She had to do it on purpose. How do you screw up a basic straigh line in the back of someone's head. The worst part is that two weeks later, I was telling a woman in the neighborhood about my experience. She had the same experience a few months back at Idalias Salon with who, CERITTA. The woman has a short hairstyle and said that Ceritta messed it up. I think she's practicing. She has locks,so I don't think she's learning. The problem I that I requested and experience beautician. They also lied to me over the phone to call ahead that day to make sure they used my relaxer (they didn't). read more
