I have gotten a few haircuts and hair treatments with Abby and she always does a great job! She definitely knows her stuff. Very friendly and the space has a good vibe. I love the Brazilian Blowouts I have gotten that have helped make my hair less frizzy. I will say the first time I went it was a bit weird as the building has several studios and they keep the front doors locked and have the different studios pick up their clients from outside. My husband bought me a groupon to get my hair done. It was difficult to get an appointment because they are super busy, but I am glad that they were able to fit me in. I had never been to a place like Sola where there are tons of different salons in one place. The suite is pretty small. Big enough for the stylists and two clients. I was getting a haircut and highlight from Michelle. She asked me questions about how I wanted my hair and what kind of color I was looking for in my highlights. She made sure to pick the right combination to brighten me up without looking unnatural. Michelle and Abby were very fun and I enjoyed my time in the chair. The other clients were friendly too. Michelle made doing hair look so easy. You could tell she knew what she was doing. I loved the cut and the color. I really want to go back the next time I need my hair done. This is a super late review of my experience in late March, but here it is! I made an appointment with Abby after purchasing a Groupon deal for haircut, scalp massage, and highlights. I wanted to do peekaboo highlights and came prepared with pictures of what I wanted, highlights and haircut. Originally, I wanted pastel pink highlights, but Abby informed me that she didn't have the color so I settled for the traditional blonde highlights, requesting to go as light as possible. The whole process took about 2.5 to 3 hours as she ended up bleaching my hair twice to try to lift all the color since my hair had been previously dyed. Abby was super informative and walked me through what she was doing. She ended up giving me 4 areas of highlights and although I would've like more highlights, I'm still quite pleased with the results and I've received several compliments from my friends. The haircut was also a success. Abby really knew what she was doing and I was pleasantly surprised. Normally, I tend to have Asian people cut my hair as I feel that they have a better feel for cutting Asian hair. However, Abby is the first non Asian who cut my hair and I didn't feel like it was a disaster. In fact, even my cousin was impressed with my haircut, and she's usually just as skeptical as I am! I found Abby by pure luck about 4 months ago. I had been looking for a new hair stylist after moving to the beaverton area, and was having the worst luck. A few weeks ago I decided that I needed a change. I have the worst most unruly curly hair ever! I spoke to Abby about getting my hair straightened and she told me about the Brazilian Blowout. I honestly had no clue what that was. I educated myself with you tube videos. I wanted to know what to expect, honestly I thought if it took the frizz away I would be happy. Abby kept coaching me through the process, so not to get my hopes up that my hair is in-fact very curly and there would still be some curl. She seemed just as excited as I was to see how well it would take! She made extra time to rinse my hair to see what the after product would look like. I could not be happier with the end result. People with curly hair can relate, a blow dryer is our worst enemy! I am now able to blow dry my hair and be ready for the day. The end result completely exceeded my expectations! What's not to LOVE about The Strand. Very cute trendy atmosphere. Great customer service. Never have a problem with booking appointment and I am always waiting till the last minute to get in. Abby has done my hair for years now and I have very thick long hair to color, it always seems to be difficult for other hairdressers to color or even style. Abby always gets it right!!! I always want something new when I come in to see Abby and she always is showing me new ideas and recommending what would look good on me. Abby and Michele were so awesome this last October when they drove on site to do my friends wedding up dos and all the bridesmaids. They showed up on time and with all the supplies. We all wanted up-dos which are not always the fastest things to do when you have 5 bridesmaids, mother of the bride, bride, and mother of the groom. These gals were AMAZING!!! I'm so disappointed, this was the single worst haircut of my life. To be fair, I probably shouldn't have allowed a stylist who had never cut my hair before to give me a style that hadn't worked in the past. That said... Here's what happened: I told her I'd been growing out my old bangs since regular bangs have never looked good on me since my hair is fairly thin in the front, and wanted to get side-swept bangs (which look better on me) instead. She said she thought bangs would look great on me, and I've always wanted bangs so I told her to go for it even though they've never worked on me before. I didn't give her any direction or speak up as she started cutting away, and I truly wish I had. The result was that bangs were started way too far back (presumably to get more fullness), in a final product can only be described as mullet-like. No joke. I am so embarrassed, and never thought a stylist with so much experience would even cut someone's hair this way. Now I'm left to hope they'll grow out quickly, and trying to find creative ways to hide them in the meantime. read more

Abby could not have been more disinterested in me or my haircut. She said all of two words to me the entire time she was cutting my hair, and asked 0 clarifying questions about what I wanted. None of that is a deal breaker, but the environment in the salon made me uncomfortable the entire time I was there. She and the other woman working spent the entire time gossiping about people they knew and the people walking by the window, which is already just annoying to listen to, and at one point when they were talking about someone that they knew (who was apparently black), the other customer in the shop made a comment that was borderline racist. It made me very uncomfortable - I will definitely not be returning, the haircut looks fine, but environment is important to me when it comes to getting my hair cut. read more

I had never been to this type of salon, where theres several individual salons within one building and each has their own room. I received a text message that they were running late, and was asked to reschedule later in the day, which I thought was very good to let me know rather than making me wait when I got there . I loved Michelle, she did a great job on my haircut/highlight and I got compliments for days. The day I was there was the day that the county inspector was going around to each room so they all kept coming in to talk about it. That seemed a little too gossipy for me, especially in an already crowded room type setting. When the inspector came to Abby and Michelle, they were honest about not having a license with them (apparently the inspector could look up that it was active even if they didnt' have it there). The disinfectant they used at the time was not the right strength, so the inspector told them to change it. That seemed like a fairly minor thing, but still made me wonder. The service was great and I am sure they probably changed their barbicide stuff right away. If the room was a little larger I would have been less clausterphobic and a given 5 stars. read more

I had a bad expierence here a few months ago and keep trying to share it on Yelp but I believe the Salon keeps taking it down. I wanted Abby to simply match my roots up and go back to my natural color after about a year of highlights with her. The first time it was much to dark and I went back to have her fix it. She recommended just doing some slightly lighter highlights instead of all over color. The highlights washed out after about a week and I was back to a really dark gothic look. I dont usually go back after a bad hair expierance but I liked Abby and wanted to still trust her with my hair. I tried to take some blame off her and tell her maybe I just want my old highlights back. She had me come in and put my highlights back in. The only problem was she forgot I never use bleach, only color since my hair is so fine and turns white with bleach. She knew she srewed up right away and tried to put toner in it quickly. Of course the toner washed out after a few days and i was left with white streaks in my hair. I texted her my dissapointments and she asked me to come in again. I said that it would be my 4th time and I just wanted my original money back. ($100) She apologized and agreed. About 2 weeks later I texted her asking if she mailed it. She never wrote back. Finally after a few more messages she told me she simply changed her mind. There are a lot of great hairstylists out there that need business and after all I had expierenced I would not recommended them. read more

This was a five-star experience to start out, and then dropped down when Abby didn't return two of my phone calls. I wasn't completely satisfied and and didn't feel confident with my new haircut. It didn't look anything like the example pictures I brought in so I requested that I get the back touched up and thinned out a little bit so it wasn't so poofy, but she still hasn't returned both voice mails after over a week. $60 ($50 for the cut, $10 for tip) is way too much to pay for a haircut that I was not totally in love with. I just moved here from California and I made and appointment with Abby (I believe that was her name-light blond with short hair and glasses). This was back in late February. And although she was nice, when i told her what i wanted (long blended layers), she kind of said things that were meant to deter me from what i have always done to my hair. Then she proceeded to cut, but she never stopped to ask how it looked in the process which is what o was used to, and i couldn't really get a word in edgewise because once she found out i had had a Disneyland pass for most of my life, she wouldn't stop. I'm convinced she was so distracted, she just cut how she wanted. Then she used a straightener on my hair which I had mentioned in the beginning not to use. Only blow dry since my hair is finicky. But i doubt she heard me. The layers are so short and don't blend into my hair. She basically chopped the top layer super short then just stopped at that. My hair length is just below my bra strap. No blending, no long layers like i asked. it's been 3 months since i got it cut, but i decided that it still upset me enough when i saw how much longer my hair has to grow before it can look right. It looks choppy which is not what i wanted. it's still a mess in progress 3 months later. Do not go to her. But if you do, just don't talk about Disneyland because she'll get distracted and fuck up your hair. read more

As far as the person who arrived late, you will learn! You can't expect your stylist to accept you late if that means she will run behind all day because you didn't manage your time. It's not fair to complain about your stylist, who was willing to reschedule you and give you a second chance, when you made the mistake of showing up late. The Groupon said it was supposed to include a beer or wine with the haircut but she didn't bring it up and I was too embarrassed to ask about it so I went without!
