This place rocks. The owners are helpful and gracious. The cabins were clean and comfortable. Perfectly located just off of the main drag, but still secluded. They were very pet friendly. I can't say enough good things about dorothy and her husband. Can't wait to go back. They really know how to take care of their guests.

We stayed here Feb 13-18, 2014 - Cabin # 10 and my sister's family stayed in Cabin #11. We had the BEST time! Owners - Mike & Dorothy - are so friendly and accommodating and make you feel like you're right at home. Rustic feel cabins and premises, yet everything you need to be self sufficient. Kitchen with full size refrigerator, oven/stove, microwave, stocked cabinets with dishes, fireplace, TV with Cable. Walking distance to grocery store. Close to everything that Ruidoso has to offer, yet secluded enough to feel like you're away from the rat race. Playscape for the kiddos (our 4 year old loved it!). Barbecue pits on premises if you want to cook out. Horseshoe pitching area and picnic tables. Groups of mule deer come by morning and evening and will eat right out of your hand - be sure to bring some apples, it's their favorite! :-) We'll be going back every year for sure! Thanks Idle Hour Lodge!

Stayed here over New Years for 3 nights, ever since calling to ask about reservations I felt so welcomed by the owners, they we're so helpful when I asked about information about where to go and what to do, as soon as we got there we were greeted by Dorothy (one of the owners), we had homemade cookies waiting for us in the cabin as soon as we got there, just a few of many details that make you feel at home the whole time your there. The cabins are great, they're in town but very conveniently located so that you have trees all around you for an "in the woods" feeling.the cabins are also very clean and well equipped, everything worked great, the cabins have a rustic feel to them but have every modern amenity you would have at home. The price is also very very fair you can tell the owners aren't in it to be rich, I truly feel they want everyone to experience ruidoso as if you were in town visiting relatives, everything was excellent and I feel if there were any issues they would be resolved to the full extent without any hesitation what so ever due to how nice the owners are. If your looking for an at home excellent stay check the Idle Hour Lodge out, I sure will again every time I visit ruidoso. Thank you Dorothy!

    Kids having a. Great time!

Ruidoso Lodge Cabins, oh how I would love to go back!…read more While we were there, we stayed in one of the Hidden Canyon cabins, which was so wonderfully remote. Tucked away between the foothills of the mountains, we got to experience a peaceful, quiet long weekend. There are only two other cabins on the road that ours was on, so the quietude really was palpable. In the mornings (we got up before our neighbors, apparently) it felt like we were the only two people in the whole world. Even though it was chilly, we would go out on the deck to enjoy our morning coffee (for him) and tea (for me) while listening to the creak of the trees, the chirp of birds, a distant woodpecker hunting for breakfast... it was just so lovely. Actually, the in-your-face nature reached a whole other level when we had a moment interacting with the local deer population. We were on our way to the car to head towards town, when we suddenly realized that there was a herd of deer wandering towards us. Not wanting to scare them with the car door sounds, we just stopped and stood completely still. We had expected them to just continue on their way, but they actually decided to stop and check us out. A few of them actually came right up to us and (I swear, I couldn't make this up!) licked our hands! (For the "pics or it didn't happen" people out there, please do see the pictures I've uploaded. Told you-- I couldn't make this up!) Regarding the cabin itself-- the amenities were everything we could have hoped for. The kitchen was immaculately cleaned and ready for us to make a meal in, the bathroom was lovely with its skylight and river stone shower, and the bed... well, it might have been just about the most comfortable bed the husband and I had ever slept in. Not kidding! Honestly, I can't do this place any justice by writing about it. You'll just have to go take a look at the pictures, or better yet, go stay for a weekend yourself! It really is an amazing experience.

This is the first time that we have been back since the flood. This place is very sad and depressing. They not spending anything on taking care of the yard, no flowers, no upkeep on the cabins. There is still a duplex cabin that wash ravaged by the flood next to the cabins. Management is very difficult to get a hold of when you need something. A lots of excuses! Have a good time and stay somewhere else.

It's a rustic but very nice, if not luxurious "cabin", although it's furnished like a home! It has 3 bedrooms including a master bedroom with a master bedroom bathroom. One of the rooms has bunk beds which my kid and grand kids loved! The main bathroom has a massive jacuzzi tub! The kitchen is fantastic and includes granite counter tops, a full size stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and it's fully stocked with everything you need to cook. There's even a full size washer & dryer which came in handy! The cabin is furnished with free WiFi, an HD TV, Blu-Ray Player and a small assortment of DVD's. The TV has some smart features including Netflix. The front porch is great. We spent a nice afternoon from the porch watching the rain. The back yard, and deck are wonderful, as they are furnished with a tables, chairs a fantastic hot tub, and BBQ Grill. The fenced back yard is great for the kids to explore and run around. When we were not out and about doing activities in town and the surrounding area, the cabin was a welcome fully furnished get away to relax, enjoy home cooked meals, play cards, watch TV, get in the hot tub, and even sleep. We made some great memories, including a visit from the local deer which come pretty close. On top of all that my granddaughter left a pair of blue jeans behind and they were kind enough to call me and insisted upon mailing them back. Now that's great customer service. I would definitely recommend this cabin. It' a bit of a windy, uphill drive to the cabin, but well worth it.

Towels had holes in them. Dried, old food around the house on the carpet. The hot tub only fits 4 vs the 8 they advertised. Everything but the flat screen tv in the living room is out of date. The pilot switch on the fireplace is finicky and after calling management for 24 hours, they finally sent someone to fix it. I can't figure out how to sleep 13. We only counted 11 spots. The location was great. Ruidoso was wonderful. I highly suggest Casa Rio pizza.

On both occasions the receptionist Alyssa assured me we would get a call back and nothing. During a time like this I cannot believe they are trying to keep peoples money. There was no way I was going to risk my children's safety. Truly apathetic bunch of people

We have been looking forward to this trip for some time now, especially now that it's right around the corner. Sadly, the owners of the Avalon decided to sell their home and it is now managed by Condotel. I was told that our reservation would be kept and someone would reach out about payment. At the time I spoke with Condotel the paperwork for the sell had not been completed. I was told that would happen in early August 2022. I called on 08/01/22 to inquire about the reservation and cost. I was told that our reservation had been kept and then he asked if I had received information on the payment, I said "not yet". He then proceeded to look for the payment information. My family and I had paid $4500 for the rental in 2020, through VRBO. The representative came back to the line to inform me that the NEW owners decided to increase the cost to $12k. I asked to be put in contact with the owners but was denied. Sadly, this was WAY MORE than my family and I could afford at such a short notice, so CONGRATS! to the new owners and whomever decides to rent the Avalon going forward, it will not be us. I do plan on posting this review about the Condotel service and on the Avalon to every media outlet I can find. EXTREMELY BAD EXPERIENCE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Gina C.

None of the 7 beds downstairs had any bedding. We had chosen this particular cabin - Little Bear Lodge - because all 12 of us would have beds and because of the dog toilet room we had to double up, 40 year old men had to crawl on to the top bunks and mates weren't with mates. The swimming pool and hot tub were a big draw as they were advertised as heated. The heater did not work. They charged us a $400 cleaning fee but expect us to clean before we leave AND haul trash ourselves! Do not go there. If you have to choose sleeping in your car or this, choose your car. It won't be as big an aggravation.

The home was advertised as a premium property, but what we walked into felt more like someone's neglected second home -- furnished with mismatched items, poorly maintained, and nowhere near worth the price we paid. Here are some of the issues we experienced during our stay: * The oven broke on the first morning, and despite calling at 9:30 AM, no one came until after a second call that evening. * Mattresses were old and uncomfortable * The master bed is not suitable for anyone under 5'4" because it is too high to access safely and no step is provided. The nightstand next to it was about 12" too short to be usable. * Fixtures were grimy and coated in calcium and gunk. * Bath towels were threadbare, closer to dish towels in quality. * Only two thin hot pads in the kitchen -- I actually burned myself using them. * The kitchen was poorly stocked, and many items felt dirty or greasy. There was only one mixing bowl, and we found a bag of rotting avocados in the pantry. * The dishwasher didn't clean, and the instructions said to use vinegar -- which wasn't provided -- so we had to hand-wash everything. * The refrigerator made loud noises one night and kept us awake. * Worst of all, the dryer had no lint trap, with visible internal buildup -- a major fire hazard. * No coffee or side tables in the living room, making it impractical to relax with a drink or play games. * The house was dark and poorly lit, not at all like the bright, welcoming listing photos. * We were not allowed to use the patio heaters, even though they were advertised. When we asked how to turn them on, we got a generic text saying they weren't allowed -- with no explanation. * The yard was completely overgrown and unusable. We had hoped to enjoy the outdoor space but couldn't. We attempted to resolve this directly with Hummingbird Cabins, but their staff told us management could only be contacted by email and offered no timeline or assurance of follow-up. We never received a response to our email. That is not how a professional rental company should operate. We paid for a premium experience and got a substandard one. Until this property is properly cleaned, updated, and made safe, we cannot recommend it -- and we hope the company takes our feedback seriously.
